the .00001% TO LEE MULCAHY

I come from a line of .00001%, My grandparents imigrated from Germany in the 1880's, they spoke german in their home and english every where else.  They came through the hell of Ellis Island and homesteasded some land in upper NY state.  They built their own home with the help of neighbors (that was the way things were done back then) Their home was heated by self built fireplaces, the bathroom room was out the back door and down a path.  their water came from wells which they dug. They were the 000001% of their time, they owned a farm, had cows, horses, chickens, wild turkeys, pigs etc.  their food was refrigerated in an ice house by blocks of ice that they cut out of the Hudon river in the winter (a very dangerous operation) they plowed the fieldes with horse drawn plows that the forged themselves.  My great uncle was a .0000001% grist mill mill owner, he built a dam, himself to get the water to turn his grist mill stones. They were the wealthy land owners land business operators without bank accounts.

I get so tired of hearing this B S that profits are evil.  Henry Ford built the first horseless wagon himself. I remember the old model A ford, If Henry Ford did not turn a profit, the cars and trucks which we depend on and enjoy today would never have been developed, the stoves, furnaces, air conditioners, indoor bathrooms, airplanes, televisoins, computers electric lights, etc.,etc., etc., etc on and on would not exist today.  We would still hunt our food with bows and arrows.  All the goodies we need and/or desire we can purchase in a variety of stores.  todays profit margins are smaller than they have ever been in the history of the world, it is the volume of goods and services that we consume that creates the large amount of dollars overall, as the population of the world increases the volume of goods and services consumed increases, this is progress that only capitilization can create.

  • William,  Whether it's Bush or Obama, the end result is the same:  endless war on "terror" and no regulation of Wall Street.  When little people lose faith in the system, the stock market tanks.   I believe in the NRA, even though for some, it's just about big $.  It's our right to own guns.  The NRA is having trouble with REPUBLICANS in TENNESSEE, of all places.  In Texas, the law to make certain TSA actions like groping a 6 year old illegal FAILED.  Limousine liberal Obama signed the NDAA and HR347.  He's signing our rights away.  The man is shameful.   When his wife comes to Aspen [16th vacation on our dime in 3 years], she stays with my neighbor four blocks away, the Crowns, who are big Obama bundlers.  Their big $ is in General Dynamics and Wall Street's JP Morgan Chase.    Before  Moochelle arrived, we had a #ows Tea Party at my house. We wanted to march over there with and lean  a big art sign against my white trash pickup parked in front of the Crown's "gate."  Did you hear that  Obama has made freedom of speech and assembly a felony when the Secret Service is around?  the SS?  The elites are consolidating power---& their corporate owned media says Ron Paul is not viable  [ or crazy like us tea partyers.]   He has the most support from the troops.   Who cares what the media says?   I think you and I can definitely agree on one thing:  We need a 28th amendment to get the money out of politics, the root of all evil.

  • Lee, u r missing the point, my relatives in th late 1880's were the elite citizens thru their own sweat. My grandfather on my mothers side was an expert carpenter, he built house with inlaid oak mosiacs floors, he built houses w/ circular sections, he was much sought after as a builder, his olwn house that he built in 1875 is still standng and still an imposing sight as an historic structure.  we never had a lot of money but we were rich in skills that provided a comfortable living. they could use their skills to aquire many things other than cash.  The point is modern man is not willing to provide for his family by the sweat of his brow, modern man wants to get as much as he can with the least amount of effort.  The Fords, Fultons, Edisons, Studebakers, Packards, Harrimans, etc, etc etc. were primarily dedicated to improving the life style of their fellow man and their products provided wealth for them, but the general consesus today is that their were evil men because they were able to accumulate profits for themselves even they used the major portion of profits to improve their products and services, their material wealth was accumulated over a period of many years, none of these capitalistic pioneers became instantly wealthy, they continued with their work even in their later years, their personal sacrifices were substantial from the begginning and now they are portraid as evil people, the ingratitude of so many people turns my stomach.

  • William, I too come from white trash.  My father grew up on a farm without running water and electricity. Last month, he led 7 of us to Kenya to install a water well for a village without running water.  It was a circle of life for him.  Bud Mulcahy worked his way through school and became an American success story.  He believes that the possibilities that existed for his generation are no longer present in Obama's America.   An endless war on "terror" and a government revolving door between the elites on Wall Street, DC, and the elite universities only foster more inequality and a bigger govt.   And to paraphrase Jefferson, the bigger the government  - the less the liberty.
