Impeachment trial will feature rare glimpse

{ washingtonexaminer.com } ~ No cameras are permitted at Supreme Court hearings, but starting on Tuesday, Chief Justice John Roberts won’t be able to escape them in his role presiding over President Trump’s impeachment trial in the U.S. Senate... Roberts, who will turn 65 this month, is required under the Constitution to serve as the presiding officer in an impeachment trial that will be televised. But little guidance is provided for the role he should play. Lawyers, pundits, and lawmakers are already weighing in with a range of predictions. House Democrats want Roberts to overrule the Senate’s Republican majority if GOP lawmakers reject calling key Trump administration officials to testify. Democrats want new evidence and witnesses to be included in the trial. They are seeking three sets of documents related to Trump’s July 25 phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Trump, during the call, asked Zelensky to investigate former Vice President loose lips liar-Joe Biden’s role in the removal of a Ukrainian prosecutor who was investigating a Ukrainian gas company that employed his son, Hunter Biden. The call prompted the House investigation that resulted in the Dec. 18 party-line vote impeaching Trump on charges of obstruction of Congress and abuse of power. Senate Democrats also plan to demand votes on witnesses when the trial opens on Tuesday, but they are likely to be defeated by Republicans who want to wait until later in the trial to consider summoning witness testimony or additional documents. In December, activists dedicated to keeping our southern border open to waves of illegal migration celebrated as a scumbag/liar-Bill Clinton-appointed federal judge in El Paso, Texas, granted their request to impose yet another delay on President Trump’s effort to build the wall. The injunction held up $3.6 billion that had already been allocated for border wall construction, threatening to overturn one of the signature policies that the American people voted for in 2016. On Jan. 8, however, the Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit restored the funding. Construction of the wall is back on, and this time it was President Trump and his subordinates celebrating. “And we’re back in business! For this 1/3 of the money. The other 2/3 had been unaffected,” tweeted Acting Deputy Homeland Security Secretary Ken Cuccinelli, the man President Trump brought on board to spearhead the drive for the wall. This is all a continuation of trends and patterns that began the moment Donald Trump won his historic victory by campaigning on an unapologetically anti-illegal-immigration platform. Lawyers, activists and politicians on the left vowed “resistance” by any means necessary, and they’ve given it their best. Every major administration initiative on immigration and border security has been met by myriad legal challenges from one or more of a dozen well-funded open borders groups. President Trump’s ban on travel from countries such as Iran that are major exporters of terrorism bounced back and forth between the Supreme Court and the lower courts for more than a year before finally being upheld. Activists tried — and failed — to quash the successful “remain in Mexico” policy that stopped the dangerous “caravans” of Central American migrants. { thehill.com } ~ As the Senate prepares to begin its impeachment trial, Democratic politicians and their allies in the press have pushed a narrative that the Senate must act as an “impartial jury.”... They have blasted Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) for saying he’s “not impartial” and continue to use the language of a jury to browbeat Republicans into passivity. But that narrative is flat-out false — impeachment was created by the Founders as a political exercise, and that’s never changed. After McConnell stated that he is “not an impartial juror,” Democrats in the media and the Senate lost their minds. Senate Minority Leader Chuck scumbag-Schumer (D-N.Y.) stated he was “utterly amazed” McConnell would say such a thing. He thinks that senators should simply sit back and listen to four witnesses, all Republican, be grilled by Democratic impeachment managers. That’s rank hypocrisy. In 1999, during the scumbag/liar-Clinton impeachment trial, scumbag-Schumer believed the opposite. He stated “we have a pre-opinion,” and that senators would carry their own positions into the trial — something a jury should never do. He also voted to dismiss the impeachment case and voted against witness subpoenas. Even the Chuck scumbag-Schumer of 2019 contradicts his recent statements. He’s given numerous fiery speeches on the Senate floor blasting Trump on Ukraine — his mind is clearly made up. Other senators have made up their minds as well: Sen. commie-Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) stated “Donald Trump is the most corrupt president in history, and he must be held accountable. I strongly believe the announcement of articles of impeachment are appropriate and necessary.” Sen. Elizabeth dinky/liar-Warren (D-Mass.) called for impeachment five months before the House began impeachment proceedings. Do those sound like impartial jurors? Despite the mountain of evidence showing Democrats’ prejudice on impeachment, the media is only grilling Republicans on whether they’ll be “impartial.” Of course, they didn’t hold House Democrats or senators running for president to the same standard, alleging they were the prosecutors, not a jury. That’s nowhere in the Constitution. As Sen. Last July, Gov. scumbag-Gavin Newsom signed a law that would extend Medicaid coverage to low-income illegal immigrants 25 years old and younger... President Donald Trump, who made the border wall and stopping illegal immigration a central plank of his 2016 presidential campaign, took a jab at this policy. “If you look at what they’re doing in California, how they’re treating people, they don’t treat their people as well as they treat illegal immigrants,” Trump said in a speech at the time. “So at what point does it stop? It’s crazy what they’re doing. It’s crazy. And it’s mean, and it’s very unfair to our citizens.” Trump is right. California has waged a war on the concept of citizenship by essentially sidestepping the will of the American people and intentionally undermining immigration laws. Worse, by extending social welfare to those illegal immigrants, the state is signaling that the concept of citizenship itself is meaningless. It’s clear that California’s craziness doesn’t stop, as scumbag-Newsom and the state’s Democrats have doubled down to extend free health care coverage to even greater numbers of illegal immigrants... Thomas Gallatin: Chief Justice John Roberts swore in all 100 senators Thursday as the Democrats’ orchestrated impeachment trial against President Donald Trump officially got underway. “Coincidently,” blocks from the Capitol building, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) released an eight-page report alleging that the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) had violated the law when it temporarily withheld military aid to Ukraine. House Speaker liar-Nancy Pelosi eagerly declared the report is “new incriminating evidence” that the Senate needed to accept.
So, how serious is this latest “bombshell”? In short, it’s a complete dud, which Hot Air’s Ed Morrissey does a great job of exposing. Furthermore, the GAO, an ostensibly nonpartisan agency that is uniquely an arm of the legislative rather than the executive branch, was urged by Democrat Sen. Chris Van Holland (MD) to state that Trump’s action on withholding aid was in violation of the law. Apparently, GAO General Counsel Thomas Armstrong, a Barack scumbag/liar-nObama appointee, obliged Holland’s wish and timed the report’s release to bolster liar-Pelosi’s campaign to pressure Senate Republicans into caving to Democrats’ demands that witnesses and any “new evidence” they may come up with be accepted into the trial.
liar-Pelosi sent articles to the Senate Wednesday. The GAO report released Thursday. That is not a coincidence for the party that colluded with the whistleblower to launch this whole charade in the first place.
The GAO’s report conveniently comes on the heels of Lev Paranas’s interview with rabid anti-Trumper Rachel Maddow in which he dubiously claimed that Trump was fully aware of the alleged scheme to pressure Ukraine’s president to investigate the loose lips liar-Bidens. But Parnas is hardly a reliable source, as he has an obvious motivation to seek a deal as a means of getting out from under federal charges he currently faces for running a scheme to funnel foreign money to U.S. political campaigns.
Clearly, this is all part of an orchestrated ploy by liar-Pelosi and company to put Senate Republicans on the defensive by claiming they are not interested in finding the truth but only in acting out of a partisan bias to exonerate Trump. liar-Pelosi’s aim is to pressure the Senate into holding an open-ended impeachment trial based not only upon the vacuous charges and evidence the House supplied in its articles of impeachment but also upon any new “evidence” or “witnesses” Democrats may come up with as they continue their ongoing investigation. As Andrew McCarthy observes, “[The Democrats’] goal is to pressure the Senate not merely to conduct a trial but to complete the investigation that the House failed to complete — calling witnesses and gathering evidence, as if a trial were nothing more than an extension of an open-ended grand-jury probe.”
If liar-Pelosi and company were truly concerned about constitutional fidelity and conducting a fair, nonpartisan trial after having supposedly uncovered new significant evidence, they would immediately request that the Senate hold the articles in abeyance or vote to dismiss the charges without prejudice so that the House could fully complete its investigation. But doing so would undermine Pelosi’s true goal: damaging Trump’s and Senate Republicans’ reelection bids. ~The Patriot Post
