washingtonexaminer.com } ~ The U.S.-China trade war is making headlines, but the most important aspect of the long-term economic competition with China isn’t soybeans or natural gas, it’s technology... The dual flashpoints of economic espionage and backdoor surveillance could precipitate the great uncoupling of the world’s two largest economies. Although American politicians have just started to pay attention, China has been engaged in a decades long, systematic, state-sponsored effort to steal U.S. technology. Beijing has relied heavily on stolen trade secrets and intellectual property to build its own indigenous manufacturing and technology base. Recent U.S. intelligence community estimates suggest that China employs 30,000 military cyber spies and 150,000 private sector cyber experts whose job is to steal foreign secrets and technology. China’s economy has thus grown substantially, often at the cost of American companies. China is estimated to be responsible for 50-80% of all international intellectual property theft worldwide. This costs our economy alone an estimated $300 billion a year. A congressional commission has found that Chinese espionage “comprises the single greatest threat to U.S. technology.” In many high-tech areas, China is not only catching up with America, but moving ahead. In artificial intelligence and quantum computing, Chinese scientists are some of the world leaders. In advanced microprocessing, China aims to increase the percentage of Chinese-made integrated circuits in its market from 9% five years ago to 70% by 2025. These technologies will pose both economic and military challenges. There are even concerns about less advanced technologies, such as commercial rail cars and personal drones, which are increasingly dominated by Chinese producers. Last month, Senate Minority Leader Chuck scumbag-Schumer, D-N.Y., called for an investigation into a Chinese company that has won a subway car-redesign contest, though hasn’t been awarded a contract to build them for New York City. The research and development community in China is growing, and this has allowed Chinese firms to take a more active leadership role in setting global standards for information networks, as they are on 5G networks, for example. American technology firms often find themselves outgunned on international bodies that set and govern global rules, such as the International Telecommunication Union. As a result, Chinese companies are not only developing new networking technologies, but they're often writing parts of the rulebook. As China has caught and even overtaken the competition in critical technologies, the United States and other countries have taken notice. In 2015, the scumbag/liar-nObama administration put pressure on Beijing to end rampant Chinese theft of American intellectual property. But after a brief hiatus, Chinese hackers went back to work, although they were more careful to cover their tracks...  https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/red-flags?utm_source=breaking_push&utm_medium=app&utm_campaign=push_notifications&utm_source=WEX_News%20Brief_06/21/2019&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=WEX_News%20Brief&rid=5261

Iran warns US the region could be
‘set on fire,’ vows to defend its borders

by timesofisrael.com:  Iran on Saturday vowed that it would stand firm against any threats to its borders, and issued a warning to the US and its allies in the region... after US President Donald Trump said the military was “cocked and loaded” to strike against Tehran for downing a US drone on Thursday. “Firing one bullet towards Iran will set fire to the interests of America and its allies” in the region, armed forces general staff spokesman Brigadier General Abolfazl Shekarchi told the semi-official Tasnim news agency. “If the enemy — especially America and its allies in the region — make the military mistake of shooting the powder keg on which America’s interests lie, the region will be set on fire,” Shekarchi warned.“Regardless of any decision they make… we will not allow any of Iran’s borders to be violated. Iran will firmly confront any aggression or threat by America,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Abbas Mousavi said. Also on Saturday Iran said its airspace was secure and safe to fly through,  according to Reuters. “Iran-controlled airspace over the Persian Gulf and other flight routes are completely safe,” said Iran Civil Aviation Organization spokesperson Reza Jafarzadeh. On Friday, some of the world’s leading carriers including British Airways, Qantas, Singapore Airlines, Germany’s Lufthansa and Dutch carrier KLM suspended flights over the Strait of Hormuz. The US barred American-registered aircraft from flying over Iranian-administered airspace in the Persian Gulf, affecting a region crucial to global air travel. The Federal Aviation Administration warned of a “potential for miscalculation or misidentification” in the region after Iran shot down the US Navy RQ-4A Global Hawk, an unmanned aircraft with a wingspan larger than that a Boeing 737 jetliner... Iran's threats are worthless.

Yes, Bipartisanship Exists in Washington

fairus.org } ~ In a rare display of bipartisanship, the Senate Appropriations Committee, by a 30-1 vote, approved a $4.59 billion emergency funding bill in response to the emergency at our southern border... There’s just one catch. The $4.59 billion only addresses the symptoms of the border emergency. Both parties agreed to ignore President Trump’s plea for even modest funding to address a few of the causes of the border crisis: a lack of adequate manpower and additional detention space to house migrants who continue to pour across the border, exploiting loopholes in our asylum laws. Under Senate rules, an Appropriations bill cannot be a vehicle for legislating changes to our asylum laws, or for authorizing longer detention of families with children until their asylum cases can be considered, or allowing unaccompanied minors to be returned to their homelands. But it can be a vehicle for funding more border security personnel and infrastructure, or expanding detention capacity for migrants who can be detained for longer periods of time. The $4.59 billion will be spent on feeding, housing, providing medical care for migrants, and for processing them and releasing them into the country as quickly as possible. As long as we’re doing next to nothing to deter people from abusing our laws, we’re going to have to foot the bill for their basic needs. But if all we are doing is upgrading the care of migrants and getting them into the country faster, the $4.59 billion will quickly be exhausted. The promise of better temporary accommodations and quicker release will mean an even greater number of people showing up at the border, and not just from Central America. Without the supplemental appropriations for border enforcement and detention the president requested, not to mention addressing the loopholes in our laws that allow migrants to abuse our asylum policies and use kids as get out of jail free cards, the Senate action amounts to nothing more than a $4.59 billion exercise in futility – at the taxpayers’ expense, of course.

UK: A Clash of Educations

gatestoneinstitute.org } ~ What started as a small protest in the UK has taken on wider dimensions that are already spreading to other cities. For more than two months now... a primary school in Birmingham in the UK has been at the centre of a standoff between modern Western values and the concerns of a large group of Muslim parents. As early as April, reports said, leafleters were targeting schools in Birmingham, Manchester, Oldham, London, Blackburn and Bradford. The almost daily protests outside the schools, although on a more muted scale, are the biggest since those against Salman Rushdie and his book, The Satanic Verses back in 1988 -- events that for some radicalized a generation. According to the author Kenan Malik, those early protests sowed the seeds of rifts that have since become wider. Some form of clash between these two sets of values is taking place again. Anderton Park Primary School is an outstanding place of education for children between the ages of five and eleven. Most of the children are Muslims, but that does not restrict the efforts to introduce them to being fully educated citizens in the country where most were born. According to the UK's 2011 Census, Muslims, numbering 234,014, make up 21.6% of Birmingham's population, well above the average for England and Wales as a whole (4.8%). Birmingham is the largest city by population after London. Its Muslim population is almost as large, and the city itself is even more ethnically diverse than the capital. Muslims have arrived from Africa, Asia mainly Bangladesh and Pakistan, and parts of eastern Europe. "Islam is a growing social force in Britain's second city", according to The Economist, and its Central Mosque "has influence everywhere from the classroom to the bedroom". Clearly, what is happening in Birmingham may have a disproportionate bearing on Muslims and others throughout the UK. The context within which social pressures are growing seems, first, that Muslims now make up one in every twenty people in the UK. Alongside that, there is the understanding, developed by Dame Louise Casey in her 2016 governmental review of opportunity and integration in the UK, that Muslim communities have been proving the hardest to assimilate within British society at large...

Syrian civilians scatter after
bombs hit hospital inside Idlib
by Jerry McCormick

{cbsnews.com} ~ The Syrian government has turned its weapons on its own people in the unrelenting quest for control...
In an effort to secure the city of Idlib, missiles rained out of the sky from reported Russian airstrikes. Idlib is one of the few areas not controlled by the Syrian government. As such, it is doing everything it can do get the area under control, including killing its own civilians with airstrikes. There had been a reported cease-fire, but it did not last very long. In fact, within 24 hours of the agreement, the airstrike had been conducted. CBS News took a crew inside the area and what the crew saw was horrific. Among the targets hit was a civilian hospital. Only hours before the news crew showed up, a civilian clinic had been all but destroyed by Syrian troops. Syria is proving it will do just about anything to regain control of the area. This, of course, includes cutting off any chance of medical help for those hit in these attacks. With hospitals and clinics being taken out, victims of the airstrikes are often left by the roadside to die. In an effort to save themselves, many of the residents of the area have fled and now reside in refugee camps outside the area...

Arnold Ahlert:  On Monday, the world’s number one terror-sponsoring nation decided to engage in a bit of international blackmail. “Iran warned European nations on Monday that it would breach in 10 days the landmark 2015 nuclear agreement unless they take action to alleviate the pressure of tightening U.S. sanctions in the coming weeks,” Bloomberg News reported.

A landmark nuclear agreement? More like one built on a pack of lies, unconstitutional machinations, and abject surrender to extortion, all promoted by the scumbag/liar-nObama administration and its media sycophants as a “breakthrough” that was nothing of the kind.

Right from the beginning, the former president lied about the timeline, insisting negotiations only began when “moderate” Hassan Rouhani became the Iranian president in 2013. In fact they began a year earlier — and Barack scumbag/liar-nObama essentially gave the mullahs everything they demanded. The ongoing charade was orchestrated by White House National Security Advisor Ben Rhodes, who proudly admitted that he was quite adept at creating a media “echo chamber” supporting the deal. Willing dupes like The Atlantic’s Jeffrey Goldberg and Al-Monitor’s Laura Rozen, who Rhodes insisted “helped retail the administration’s narrative.”

After that? “Republican leadership colluded with the White House and congressional Democrats to enact … the Corker-Cardin Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act that guaranteed scumbag/liar-nObama would be authorized to lift sanctions against Iran,” columnist Andrew McCarthy explained in 2015.

That law, enabled by former GOP Senator Bob Corker, allowed scumbag/liar-nObama to sidestep the constitutional requirement necessitating a two-thirds vote of approval by the Senate for any treaty. Corker’s machinations flipped this requirement on its head, allowing scumbag/liar-nObama to prevail unless two-thirds of the Senate opposed the deal he refused to call a treaty. Hence, only 42 senators gave Democrats the power to filibuster any subsequent vote, and scumbag/liar-nObama prevailed.

It gets worse. Despite scumbag/liar-nObama’s  insistence the deal would be based on “unprecedented verification,” he never told Congress about two secret side agreements negotiated exclusively between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) — that no Americans were ever going to see.

America then learned the administration secretly sent a plane loaded with $400 million in cash to Tehran. After that, the administration admitted it furnished Iran with an additional $1.3 billion just days later. It also granted Iran access to U.S. financial institutions, despite telling Congress it never would.

The cash was purported to be a goodwill gesture that precipitated a prisoner swap. But as a bombshell 2017 report by Politico reveals, scumbag/liar-nObama’s insistence that he was making a “one-time gesture” of releasing Iranian-born prisoners who “were not charged with terrorism or any violent offenses” was also a complete lie. “Three allegedly were part of an illegal procurement network supplying Iran with U.S.-made microelectronics with applications in surface-to-air and cruise missiles like the kind Tehran test-fired recently, prompting a still-escalating exchange of threats with the Trump administration,” explained Politico columnist Josh Meyer. “Another was serving an eight-year sentence for conspiring to supply Iran with satellite technology and hardware.”

On top of that, scumbag/liar-nObama’s Justice Department released 14 other men described as fugitives. One of them was Seyed Abolfazl Shahab Jamili, who Meyer adds had been charged with “being part of a conspiracy that from 2005 to 2012 procured thousands of parts with nuclear applications for Iran via China. That included hundreds of U.S.-made sensors for the uranium enrichment centrifuges in Iran whose progress had prompted the nuclear deal talks in the first place.”

And while it was all unfolding, scumbag/liar-nObama officials were characterizing anyone who didn’t buy in to this disaster — including Democrat Sen. Chuck scumbag-Schumer — as a war-monger. scumbag/liar-nObama himself insisted “Iranian hardliners” also opposed to the deal are “making common cause with the Republican caucus” during a speech on Aug. 5, 2015.

So who’s prevailing now? Are we supposed to believe “moderate” Iranians are threatening to increase uranium enrichment if a new deal isn’t in place by July 7? Is it moderate Iranians stoking war in Yemen, or financing the efforts of Hezbollah and Hamas to eliminate Israel? Is it moderate Iranians like Gen. Mohammad Hossein Bagheri, the chief of the general staff of Iran’s armed forces, who warned the world that if Iran decides to block the Strait of Hormuz, they will to do it “in a way that even a drop of oil won’t pass the strait?”

Is it “moderate” Iran that attacked oil tankers last week? Or that shot down an American drone just yesterday?

Does anyone still remember that, despite this so-called deal, scumbag/liar-nObama himself admitted that it won’t prevent Iran from ultimately obtaining nukes, while his equally feckless Secretary of State hanoi-John Kerry admitted some of the money they gave the regime will be used to fund terror?

How about the reality that restrictions on the ballistics missiles Iran continues to test — aided by North Korea — were never part of the so-called the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, or that Iran’s “military facilities” are off limits to inspectors?

In May 2018, Trump kept his campaign promise and withdrew from the agreement. “This was a horrible one-sided deal that should have never, ever been made,” Trump said. “It didn’t bring calm, it didn’t bring peace, and it never will.”

Unsurprisingly, the Democrat/Media Complex has taken Iran’s side. “The Iranian regime is authoritarian, ideological and repressive, a serial human rights abuser and regional troublemaker,” USA Today columnist Aaron David Miller asserts. “But we now find ourselves in a dangerous situation largely as a result of a great unraveling begun by the Trump administration’s unilateral decision last year to withdraw from the 2015 Iran nuclear agreement.”

Utter nonsense. America has been in a “dangerous situation” with Iran since 1979, and all scumbag/liar-nObama did was postpone its development of nuclear weapons until he was safely out of office. And while Americans are rightly loath to involve the nation in further “foreign entanglements,” it is utterly naive to believe the choice is wholly ours to make.

Iran remains a nation in which Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei routinely leadsdemonstrations where cheers of “death to America” remain a staple; that killed  600 U.S. service members in Iraq; and directed a terrorist plot aimed at assassinating Saudi Arabian ambassador to the United States Adel Al-Jubeir with a bomb, and precipitating additional bombings of the Saudi and Israeli embassies — in Washington, DC.

As for Iran being a “regional troublemaker,” senior U.S. officials claim Tehran is willing to carry out proxy terror attacks in the United States using domestically based Hezbollah operatives to do so. Hezbollah has been a designated terrorist organization since 1997.

Would a nuclear Iran give Hezbollah a nuke to detonate in America? After our nation’s vulnerability was exposed on 9/11, one would think that question would be the essential part of any conversation regarding Iran. That it is not is indicative of the poisonous political atmosphere that currently exists, whereby anything Trump is for — including national security — Democrats and their media allies are reflexively against.

That orchestrated disunity — above all else — accrues to the advantage of not only Iran but all of America’s enemies. Until that contemptible reality changes, Iran won’t be the only nation seeking to exploit our foremost vulnerability.

Vulnerability that invites conflict.  ~The Patriot Post
