Additionally, on a housekeeping and scheduling note, Sekulow states the Senate has requested an accommodation from the defense to limit opening to 10am-1pm on Saturday. So the defense segment will begin at 10am tomorrow then break after three hours and resume on Monday January 27th.

"The big question is," asked Brett Baier, "is the way that scumbag/liar-Adam Schiff said it, do voters never get to trust the vote and only lawmakers can decide what the line is, that a president can get kicked out of office for?" "Yeah, Brett, scumbag/liar-Adam's ordinarily not that stupid but when you tell the jury, the Senate, on one day that they're corrupt and then you tell the American people they cannot be trusted to pick the commander in chief, that's just a wildly stupid trial strategy," Gowdy responded. "Remember when Donald Trump, as a candidate, began to question the reliability of the vote? Remember when he started making allusions to potential voter fraud and he was roundly criticized by everyone that I heard in the media for even suggesting that you could not, that you could not rely on a vote total," he added."Well scumbag/liar-Adam Schiff has done exactly the same thing," he continued. "American people, we don't trust you to factor this in in November, so we need a hundred senators to decide that," Gowdy mocked, in the voice of Democrats he was criticizing. Democrats do not have enough votes in the Senate to convict and remove the president, and he is expected to survive the trial with the backing of his Republican allies.

"He is a dictator,” scumbag liar-Nadler said Friday evening, arguing Trump wants to be “all powerful” and not respect Congress. “This must not stand. And that is why -- another reason -- he must be removed from office." scumbag liar-Nadler’s comments came as Democrats were wrapping their opening arguments in the trial, insisting the president tried to “cheat” in the 2020 election through his dealings with Ukraine and should therefore be removed from office. Meanwhile, the president’s team of lawyers have vowed to lay out an aggressive case in defense of the president when they begin their opening statements Saturday morning. “It's not a rebuttal, but what we are going to do is attack, attack all of the misstatements,” Trump lawyer Jordan Sekulow previewed Friday on “Fox and Friends.” “We're going to make the case for the president why the president was totally within his constitutional rights,” he added. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Saturday’s session will begin at 10 a.m. ET and run “for several hours.” A source on the president's legal team told reporters they expect the sessions to be short, possibly between 2 to 3 hours. { spectator.org } ~ A new European Union scheme, championed by an official who sings the praises of “political Islam,” advocates expanding religious influence over all areas of European public life, to little opposition... Meanwhile, in the United States, the question of religion in the public sphere continues to be debated vigorously and opposed by secularists on both sides of the political spectrum. One case currently brought before the Supreme Court, opposed by groups such as the ACLU, is considering whether state governments might be compelled to subsidize private religious schools. Such careful deliberation is rarely seen in Europe. Religious institutions operate under a rather different set of rules: religious bodies already exert significant political influence, receive enormous amounts of taxpayer funding, and are often deputized by governments to provide community and welfare services. The EU hopes to build on that further. In September 2019, Federica Mogherini, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, announced the launch of an initiative called “Global Exchange on Religion in Society,” which she presented as an unobjectionable extension of the European Union’s existing student exchange program but “for civil society actors who work on faith.” But given the involvement of Islamist-linked bodies with the scheme, Global Exchange is more likely to become a means for theocrats to strengthen their influence in Europe, with the financial and political support of European officials. According to the EU, Global Exchange “will connect civil society practitioners inside and outside Europe, allowing them to learn from each other, explore partnerships, acquire new skills, and to scale-up positive experiences of coexistence among people of different faiths in pluralistic societies.” Behind this jargon, however, critics have spotted danger. The few organizations truly concerned by this latest EU program are mostly found in France, one of the few European countries with codified secularism. Comite Laicite Republique (CLR) has published analysis alerting Europeans to the ominous consequences of Mogherini’s initiative. While France’s laïcité stands out for its extremely strict separation of church and state, the CLR’s concerns are relevant to the rest of Europe, as well. The CLR describes “Global Exchange” as an anti-secular “time bomb,” warning that this initiative would implement a program of reintroduction of religious authority in European societies that are mostly agnostic and effectively secular...

New EU Report on Integration Misses the Point

{ gatestoneinstitute.org } ~ The European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights recently published a report in which it warned Europe against creating a "lost generation" of migrants aged 16-24, who had arrived in Europe between 2015 and 2018... The report focuses particularly on the experiences of those young people who arrived in 2015-16 and looks specifically at the five EU member states with the most asylum applicants: Austria, France, Germany, Italy and Sweden. The report also includes Greece, as it is a first EU member state of arrival. According to the report, Integration of young refugees in the EU: good practices and challenges: "From 2015 to 2018, according to Eurostat, 1.9 million people received international protection in the EU, either as refugees or as beneficiaries of subsidiary protection, or received a humanitarian residence permit. More than 80 % were below the age of 34..." Also, according to the report: "In its 2016 Action Plan on the integration of third country nationals, the European Commission pointed out that failure to integrate the newly arrived people can result in 'a massive waste of resources, both for the individuals concerned themselves and more generally for our economy and society'. The legal, economic and social inclusion of recently arrived refugees in the host society depends on how the different rights they are entitled to under EU and national law can be realised in practice". It is worth noticing that the European Commission places the responsibility for integration of third-country nationals exclusively on the shoulders of EU member states. The report states: "EU law defines in detail the rights and obligations of asylum applicants and international protection beneficiaries, whereas beneficiaries of humanitarian protection are generally covered by national law. If these rights are not respected, protected and fulfilled, people will face problems in successfully integrating in EU societies once they are allowed to stay and settle. Identifying challenges and gaps, but also opportunities and promising practices, provides the evidence that is necessary for the EU and its Member States to adjust their policies and actions. The young age of many newly arrived persons and their backgrounds of conflict and persecution require smart investments for successful integration. This report aims to contribute to reflection on how to achieve this, thus making sure that a whole generation will not be lost."...

Impeachment Trial Day 2: Democrats
Impeach American VotersThomas Gallatin: scumbag/liar-Adam Schiff led House Democrats in making their opening arguments Wednesday in the Senate impeachment trial of President Donald Trump. Speaking for two hours, scumbag/liar-Schiff’s case boiled down to the supposed need to remove Trump for his “corrupt purposes.” You see, it’s not that Trump’s actions rise to the level of impeachable offenses; it’s his intentions as interpreted by Democrats that are impeachable. Orange man bad, must be removed. Furthermore, scumbag/liar-Schiff argued, “The president’s misconduct cannot be decided at the ballot box, for we cannot be assured that the vote will be fairly won.” Democrats don’t trust the American people to judge for themselves whether Trump deserves to remain in office.
scumbag/liar-Schiff’s statement is scumbag/liar-Hillary Clinton’s “deplorables” comment repackaged. This is simply how Democrats think about vast swaths of America, proving that they’re not really after Trump; they’re after you, the voter. Ever since Trump defeated scumbag/liar-Clinton, Democrats have been seeking to impeach the vote of the American people.
Also on Wednesday, the Senate received a letter signed by 21 Republican state attorneys general calling the Democrats’ basis for impeachment illegitimate and for it to be “explicitly rejected.” The AGs argue that the Democrats’ “corrupt motives theory is dangerous to democracy because it encourages impeachment whenever the President exercises his constitutional authority in a way that offends the opposing political party, which is predisposed to view his motives with skepticism and motivated by its own motives to regain that very office.” While this letter won’t stop the impeachment trial, it may serve Senate Republicans. As The Wall Street Journal editorial board argues, “This might take the form of a Senate resolution at the time of acquittal. The crucial point is to reject impeachment as a regular tool of partisan punishment, reserving it for genuine cases of presidential abuse.”
Meanwhile, the Democrats’ push to call more witnesses is proving tricky. There has been some speculation that Democrats would be open to a deal exchanging John Bolton for Hunter Biden, but Senate Minority Leader Chuck scumbag-Schumer quickly shot that down, saying, “I think it’s off the table.” Then he quickly spun it as Republicans wanting to use it “to smear the loose lips liar-Bidens.” The fact of the matter is that the crux of the whistleblower’s complaint rests entirely on Trump’s legitimate request that the loose lips liar-Bidens’ shady behavior be investigated. It’s disingenuous to claim the loose lips liar-Bidens are not tied up in this, but that’s par for the course with these Democrats.
The fact is Democrats will need the votes of at least four Republicans to get Bolton on the stand, and for those votes they will need to give those Republicans something in return. However, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is playing it smart, stating that the Senate will be open to calling only those witnesses the House itself called; no new witnesses will be considered. He also warned, “It could dramatically change the separation of powers between the House and the Senate if the Senate agrees we will conduct both the investigation and the trial of an impeachment.”
In any case, as Mark Alexander has asserted for months, “What Democrats want is Republicans on the record voting against witnesses so they can perpetuate the ‘Trump is guilty and Republicans covered for him’ myth. They will then use those votes in campaign ads against a few Republicans they believe are vulnerable in November. The Demo impeachment charade has always been about retaking the Senate so that if Trump is reelected they can block conservative SCOTUS nominations. Republicans should call their bluff and seek witnesses — and scumbag-Schumer and scumbag/liar-Schiff will run for cover.”
Finally, as far as the House Democrats offering any new or compelling arguments against Trump, the sentiment among Senate Republicans was summed up by Wyoming’s John Barrasso, who commented, “Six hours of testimony so far today… I didn’t hear anything new at all.” That matters not because the Senate is supposed to hear new things but because nothing Democrats have presented so far merits impeachment or removal.
