more ‘antifa’ attacks

{ politico.com } ~ Federal authorities have been warning state and local officials since early 2016 that leftist extremists known as “antifa” had become increasingly confrontational and dangerous... so much so that the Department of Homeland Security formally classified their activities as “domestic terrorist violence,” according to interviews and confidential law enforcement documents obtained by POLITICO. Since well before the Aug. 12 rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, turned deadly, DHS has been issuing warnings about the growing likelihood of lethal violence between the left-wing anarchists and right-wing white supremacist and nationalist groups. Previously unreported documents disclose that by April 2016, authorities believed that “anarchist extremists” were the primary instigators of violence at public rallies against a range of targets. They were blamed by authorities for attacks on the police, government and political institutions, along with symbols of “the capitalist system,” racism, social injustice and fascism, according to a confidential 2016 joint intelligence assessment by DHS and the FBI. After President Donald Trump’s election in November, the antifa activists locked onto another target — his supporters, especially those from white supremacist and nationalist groups suddenly turning out in droves to hail his victory, support crackdowns on immigrants and Muslims and to protest efforts to remove symbols of the Confederacy. Those reports appear to bolster Trump’s insistence that extremists on the left bore some blame for the clashes in Charlottesville and represent a “problem” nationally. But they also reflect the extent that his own political movement has spurred the violent backlash.Even before Charlottesville, dozens and, in some cases, hundreds of people on both sides showed up at events in Texas, California, Oregon and elsewhere, carrying weapons and looking for a fight. In the Texas capital of Austin, armed antifa protesters attacked Trump supporters and white groups at several recent rallies, and then swarmed police in a successful effort to stop them from making arrests. California has become another battleground, with violent confrontations in Berkeley, Sacramento and Orange County leading to numerous injuries. And antifa counter-protesters initiated attacks in two previous clashes in Charlottesville, according to the law enforcement reports and interviews... Significant earthquake rattles
California, USGS says

{ foxnews.com } ~ A 6.4 magnitude earthquake rattled parts of Southern California and Nevada on Thursday morning... The quake occurred about 7 miles outside Searless Valley, located about 130 miles west of Bakersfield and about 200 miles east of the Nevada border, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. Swarms of smaller quakes occurred immediately after the 6.4 magnitude tremblor struck the region. Several people took to Twitter to report that the felt the shaking. However, there were no immediate reports of injuries or damage from the quakes.The Los Angeles Fire Department asked resident not to call 911 over the earthquake but only to report injuries or damage. Fire officials said they were in earthquake mode as a result of the tremblors. “All 106 fire stations are out conducting a strategic survey of their districts to determine if any damage exists,” the fire department said in an alert. “Once this process is complete, an overall assessment of the impact in the City of Los Angeles will be compiled by Headquarters.”... https://www.foxnews.com/us/significant-earthquake-rattles-california .

Trump Signs Law Making It Harder For IRS

{ lidblog.com } ~ President Donald Trump has just signed a law that will make it much harder for the Internal Revenue Service to swoop in and seize money away from the bank accounts of law-abiding Americans... On Monday, Trump signed a bipartisan bill that will force greater accountability on the IRS in property seizures and will protect taxpayers from identity theft, boost whistleblower protections, and modernize the agency. The legislation came after the IRS summarily seized nearly $500,000 from two Americans because the IRS didn’t like the way they were depositing money in their bank account. The Internal Revenue Service seized $446,000 from the bank accounts of brothers Jeffrey, Richard, and Mitch Hirsch in 2012, claiming a “structuring” violation against the owners of Bi-County Distributors Inc. for making multiple bank deposits of less than $10,000. The government never charged them with a crime, nor gave them a hearing to enable them to contest the seizure, but after intense national media attention to the case, the government returned the funds. There are, though literally hundreds of other cases where the IRS did not return the illicitly taken cash merely because there was no media attention. It is this abuse of power the new law is meant to curb. “We just finished signing, the important signing, of the Taxpayer First bill, the IRS Taxpayer First, which is a tremendous thing for our citizens having to deal with the IRS,” Trump said after the signing. “It streamlines and so many other changes are made. That was just done and signed. It’s been made into law. So we are all set on that.” One of the new rules forces the IRS to show probable cause for seizures. Imagine that. Zogby: Dems May Win 2020 But...
Political Editors: Democrat pollster John Zogby says, “The Democrats enter the [2020] race with some distinct advantages. First, history is on their side. They have won the popular vote in six of the past seven nationwide elections.” In fact, he says, “If the election were held today, the polls are clear that [President Donald] Trump would lose — perhaps in a landslide.” But the devil is in the details, he warns, and besides, “The election is not today.”
Zogby points to some warning signs for Democrats that, for Patriot Post readers, will strike at familiar themes.
“More Americans are earning a paycheck today than ever before,” he says, noting that the economy is strong. Indeed, Trump’s policies are benefiting Americans across the board. Unless Democrats get the recession they’re hoping and pushing for, the economy will only help Trump.
However, Zogby says Democrats have a bigger problem, and it’s one they see as a strength. “The party is very diverse and there will be demands to have a woman, an Hispanic, an African American, a member of the LGBTQ community and so on,” he says. “I can see this becoming a battle royal and causing potentially fatal damage to party unity. Simply being anti-Trump will not be enough for the Democrats to win.” Moreover, separating every single issue into victims versus villains runs the risk of alienating too many voters.
Finally, Zogby says, “The Democrats also suffer from elitism, a sense that they are the party of college-bred, coastal liberals who are in full possession of the truth. This has hurt them in previous elections — 2000, 2004, and 2016 come to mind.” As already noted, if Democrats continue to deride the “deplorables,” they are bound to lose a lot of votes. Time will tell, of course, but when your own pollster is issuing warnings, it might be best to heed them. Following last week’s debates, it’s hard to argue against Zogby’s observations, other than it appears the Democrats have decided that they will show no quarter to even moderates in their party. ~The Patriot Post
