{ theblaze.com } ~ Three separate medical studies have found a potentially effective treatment for the coronavirus that could also be useful in preventing infections in some cases... The coronavirus, known as COVID-19, is viewed as a particularly potent threat because there is currently no medical treatment and no preventative vaccine, so any hope of slowing down the spread and death rate could be significant. What's the treatment? Multiple studies showed that the use of chloroquine to treat the coronavirus can lead to faster recovery and shorter hospital stays for patients. Chloroquine is normally used as an anti-malarial drug, used for the prevention and/or treatment of malaria. It's available in the United States by prescription, and can be safely taken by men and women of all ages, including pregnant women. Doctors in China and South Korea have observed that the coronavirus patients treated with chloroquine show reduced fever and better lung CT images, and so far research has not found any negative effects of the treatment.From a study done in consultation with Stanford University School of Medicine, UAB School of Medicine, and the National Academy of Sciences: According to South Korean and China human treatment guidelines, chloroquine is effective in treating COVID-19. Given chloroquine's human safety profile and existence, it can be implemented today in the U.S., Europe and the rest of the world. Medical doctors may be reluctant to prescribe chloroquine to treat COVID-19 since it is not FDA approved for this use. The United States of America and other countries should immediately authorize and indemnify medical doctors for prescribing chloroquine to treat COVID-19. { thenewamerican.com } ~ Residents in six San Francisco Bay Area counties will be prohibited from leaving their homes for the next three weeks under a new shelter-in-place order aimed at curbing the spread of the coronavirus... The restrictions, which allow for some exceptions, have taken place in San Francisco, Marin, Santa Clara, San Mateo, Alameda, and Contra Costa counties, as well as the city of Berkeley. “Because of the risk of the rapid spread of the virus, and the need to protect all members of the community and the Bay Area region, especially including our members most vulnerable to the virus and also health care providers,” the order states, “this Order requires all individuals anywhere in San Francisco to shelter in place — that is, stay at home — except for certain essential activities and work to provide essential business and government services or perform essential public infrastructure construction, including housing.” USA Today reported that the restrictions will remain in effect for the next three weeks, during which people in these counties will be restricted from all “non-essential travel “by “foot, bicycle, scooter, automobile, or public transit” outside their homes. Under the order, most businesses will be forced to close until April 7. “I know today's order is a radical step. It has to be. We need to act now, all of us, to protect the public health,” Fox News quoted said Dr. Grant Colfax, director of the San Francisco Department of Public Health. The website of the Santa Clara County Public Health Department explained details of the “shelter in place” order. Say ‘Yes!’ to a Pre-Paid Tax Refund

While the Federal Reserve can under “unusual and exigent circumstances” create emergency lending programs to help corporations unable to secure adequate credit accommodations from other banking institutions, this Fed power is not directly helpful if you are a cash-short citizen. The federal government in the form of the U.S. Treasury is the only institution capable of stepping in to help, and it can do it quickly and without blowing a hole in the federal budget if it takes a new, creative approach for using federal income tax refunds. There are soon to be thousands of workers in the restaurant, airline, hotel, sports venue and other hospitality industries who are furloughed for weeks if not longer. When these people stop spending, jobs losses will quickly mount in other industries. For most people, no work means no paycheck. With no paycheck, a payroll tax reduction will not put a single penny in your pocket. New federal government mandates that require employers to provide employees with new additional paid sick leave may appeal to you unless you are an employer already suffering from the crisis and these new expenses make your situation even worse. Employers did not cause the Covid-19 crisis. Congress could vote to send a check for thousands of dollars to millions of taxpayers as some have suggested, but this would add a substantial amount to the federal debt when the U.S. debt-to-GDP ratio is nearing levels not seen since World War II. It is in everyone’s interest to take the measures necessary to stop the spread on the coronavirus, and everyone should share the costs necessary to ensure this happens. One way to quickly alleviate the economic fallout from the coronavirus crisis without increasing the budget deficit is to send all tax-filing households a pre-paid tax refund immediately. The pre-paid refund should be identical for every tax-filing household. The magnitude can be fine-tuned, but for arguments sake, call it $5,000 — an amount roughly equal to twice the average tax refund in 2018....
Pass an Emergency EITC Instead
of Sending Cash to All Households

{ realclearpolicy.com } ~ Congress is considering sending cash to all American households to help them handle the economic fallout of the coronavirus pandemic... But this will disproportionately benefit high and fixed-income households at the expense of low-income workers who remain the most economically vulnerable. Fortunately, there is a simple and efficient way for Congress to distribute aid to these workers and limit the long-term consequences of the current crisis: Pass an emergency earned income tax credit (EITC) that can be distributed to low-income households within weeks. First created in 1975, the EITC today it is one of the largest income support programs for low-income working families. The amount of the EITC benefit is equal to a percentage of annual earnings and given to families in a lump-sum cash payment around tax time. It is determined by the number of children living in the household. Working households with incomes up to $50,000 per year can be eligible to receive this benefit. In 2019, the average EITC was $2,476 per qualifying household. An emergency EITC supplement is a simple way to help low-income families overcome the immediate economic challenges presented by the COVID-19 response. Low-income workers likely cannot telework and many will face uncompensated work disruptions due to decreased consumer demand or caretaking responsibilities. An EITC supplement will offer them the needed flexibility to care for children during school closures or to attend medical appointments for loved ones who might be sick without worrying about lost pay. It will also supplement their earnings if they are needed for fewer hours in the restaurants, retail stores, and home health businesses they work for. The unemployment insurance and paid leave provisions currently being considered by Congress will address some of the needs of low-income workers, but gaps remain in coverage and duration of benefits. The UI provisions only address the needs of workers who lose their job, and the paid leave benefits only offer support to those who are sick or caring for a child or ill family member. An emergency EITC will fill the gaps left by current proposals and offer security to low-income families, without the cost implications of sending cash to everyone....

{ foxnews.com } ~ An American man who has been detained by Iran since 2018 and is serving a 13-year sentence was released on medical furlough Thursday... Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has announced. Michael White's release on humanitarian grounds was conditioned upon him staying in Iran. He is now in the custody of the Swiss embassy where he will undergo a medical evaluation. "The United States will continue to work for Michael’s full release as well as the release of all wrongfully detained Americans in Iran," Pompeo said in a statement. White, the first American known to be detained in Iran since President Trump took office, is accused of insulting Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and posting a photo on his social media. White’s family has said he traveled to Iran to visit his girlfriend — the two met online — and was arbitrarily detained. { foxnews.com } ~ A New Hampshire man who beaten and tortured after being detained during a family vacation in Lebanon six months ago was finally released from prison on Thursday... Amer Fakhoury, a naturalized U.S. citizen, was arrested in his native Lebanon during a family trip in September. Fakhoury, who formerly fought in the South Lebanon Army during Israel’s occupation of the country, was taken into custody after a Hezbollah-backed newspaper accused him of torturing Hezbollah and Palestinian terrorists in the ‘80s and ‘90s, a charge which his family and attorney deny and he was never previously been accused of. Fakhoury’s release comes after Sens. Jeanne Shaheen, D-N.H., and Ted Cruz, R-Texas proposed bipartisan sanctions against senior Lebanese officials involved in his unlawful detention and the State Department pushed for his release. In a statement announcing his release, Shaheen said that anytime a U.S. citizen is wrongfully detained by a foreign government, "we must use every tool at our disposal to free them." "I’m very glad that Amer is finally coming home and will be reunited with his family," Shaheen said. "No family should have to go through what the Fakhoury family has gone through. New York Times Admits 1619 Error
Lewis Morris Reading a meaningful editorial correction from The New York Times seems a bit like seeing Halley’s Comet; it happens once in a lifetime. Yet, last week, the stalwart Leftmedia rag stepped up and admitted it may have gone too far regarding the premise of its controversial 1619 Project.
You may recall our earlier reporting on this destructive rewriting of American history. The 1619 Project was an attempt to recast the American Revolution and the founding of our nation as based on the desire to protect and perpetuate the institution of slavery. It was written mostly by leftist journalists, with a few (anti-)American historians sprinkled in for good measure.
After it was released in August 2019 to coincide with the 400th anniversary of the first arrival of slaves in the New World, the 1619 Project was torn apart by legitimate historians for its complete lack of factual reporting and its blatantly agenda-driven view of American history. But respected scholars like Pulitzer Prize-winning journalists James McPherson and Gordon Wood, who were not even consulted on this project, didn’t make a dent with the “righteous” New York Times.
In true leftist fashion, the Times doubled down, insisting that this was a new attempt at historical understanding — that history was not fixed. Comrade Lenin would be proud.
The major issue of concern was that the 1619 Project had bigger plans that included pushing this dreck into our public schools to indoctrinate our children into believing that America was founded on, and still believes in, slavery. Thousands of schools across the country have accepted the 1619 Project as real history, teaching an entire generation of Americans that their country is racist.
The good news is that the continued pushback against the 1619 Project has made an impact, however small. The New York Times issued a correction of the leading article of this farce, written by Nikole Hannah-Jones. Her screed assumed that “all” of the American colonists were drawn to the revolution to protect slavery. The Times now says that only “some” of the colonists were motivated by it.
Not exactly a mea culpa or a complete retraction, but that will never happen. The Times has too much invested in this multimedia project to give up now. But this is an incremental fight. And the truth has just recorded a victory.
This correction demonstrates that the revisionists know their work is complete manure meant to feed an agenda that denigrates the United States. If they admit the premise of their so-called project is not genuine, then what else within that project can still be trusted to be true?
