Here Come the Bailouts

While the price tags for the first two efforts are still a moving target... but will easily exceed $100 billion, the third trip to the fiscal well could be a cool $1 trillion: The government’s economic stimulus is set to quickly balloon into trillion-dollar territory in the coming days, the largest rescue in modern American history, as major industries flood the Trump administration and Capitol Hill for aid while huge swaths of the economy stall from the coronavirus crisis. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin will meet with Senate Republicans behind closed doors on Tuesday to present lawmakers with options for aid to airlines, hotels, casinos and small-to-medium-sized businesses. The White House was pushing for a package of more than $800 billion, POLITICO reported Monday, and on Tuesday the Treasury Department was preparing to unveil a package of $850 billion including more than $50 billion for the airline industry, $250 billion for small-business support and $500 billion for a payroll tax holiday. So tax holidays, corporate bailouts…if some of this seems a bit like the government’s response to the Great Recession, you wouldn’t be wrong. Back then, the bill was a comparatively paltry $787 billion…and self-styled fiscal conservatives railed against it all as a titanic waste of taxpayer money. Now, the political class can’t spend money fast enough: The Trump administration is pushing to send direct payments to Americans in the next two weeks as huge parts of the economy shut down. “Americans need cash now,” Mnuchin said. “And the president wants to get cash now. Pence staffer tests positive for coronavirus, becoming first-known case of 

a White House employee

{ foxnews.com } ~ A staff member in Vice President Mike Pence’s office has tested positive for coronavirus, a spokesperson for Pence announced Friday evening... making that individual the first publicly-known positive case of a White House staffer. “‪This evening we were notified that a member of the Office of the Vice President tested positive for the Coronavirus,” Katie Miller, Pence’s press secretary, said in a statement. “Neither President Trump nor Vice President Pence had close contact with the individual.” Pence’s office did not identify the individual or provide other information about the person or the job they hold. But the Pence spokeswoman said steps are being made to trace others the person has come in contact with. “Further contact tracing is being conducted in accordance with CDC guidelines,” Miller said. Pence was appointed by Trump to lead the White House’s coronavirus task force, which has been holding daily press briefings on the virus. In recent days, Trump has joined Pence and others on the task force for briefings. The outbreak has seen others in politics diagnosed with coronavirus: Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart, R-Fla., on Wednesday became the first member of Congress to announce that he was infected. Not long after Diaz-Balart’s announcement, Rep. Ben McAdams, D-Utah, announced that he, too, had tested positive. A week ago, Trump took a coronavirus test -- after exposure to infected individuals -- but said it came back negative. That test followed Trump’s interactions with the presidential delegation from Brazil at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, as well as his appearance at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) earlier this month. People at both locations were later determined to have been infected. Earlier this week, the vice president said he had not been tested. "I have not been tested yet," Pence said Monday. "I’m in regular consultation with the White House physician, and he said I’ve not been exposed to anyone for any period of time that had the coronavirus, and that my wife and I have no symptoms." As of Friday evening, the United States had more than 18,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus resulting in 227 deaths.

CDC chief corrects the media: CDC, Trump not 

to blame for delay in getting COVID-19 tests

But on Tuesday, Dr. Anthony Fauci said the delay is due to a “technical glitch” that slowed production of the tests, not the actions of the president or the CDC. Fauci, the director for the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, told radio host Hugh Hewitt that Trump and the CDC are not to blame for the test delays. Fauci said a “technical glitch” that delayed the production of usable tests in the United States. Fauci said it was an example of random error that could not have been avoided by any president. “It was a complicated series of multiple things that conflated that just, you know, went the wrong way,” Fauci said. “One of them was a technical glitch that slowed things down in the beginning. Nobody’s fault. There wasn’t any bad guys there. Iranian Regime’s Reckless Disregard 

Made the Coronavirus Outbreak Worse

The ayatollahs played down the danger of the outbreak and delayed taking decisive measures to slow the spread of the virus to project total control and invincibility, and to avoid damaging the regime’s political, ideological, and economic interests. The excavation of trenches for mass graves at the Behesht-e-Masoumeh complex in Qom, the epicenter of Iran’s virus outbreak, and images of coronavirus victims in black bags crowding the floors of an Iranian morgue are grim signs that the scale and impact of the coronavirus is far deadlier than the Iranian regime is reporting. Iranian officials initially downplayed the severity of the outbreak, losing critical time to contain the spread of the virus. The government announced the first two coronavirus-related deaths on Feb. 19, two days before parliamentary elections that hard-liners hoped would restore the tattered legitimacy of the oppressive, corrupt, and increasingly resented regime. Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, accused the country’s enemies of exaggerating the threat posed by the coronavirus shortly before the elections to discourage the turnout of voters, which he knew would be low due to the lack of popular support for the regime. In November, anti-government protests in Iran demonstrated the Iranian people’s dissatisfaction with the regime. Disaffection turned into outright anger against the regime after Iran’s Revolutionary Guards shot down a Ukrainian airliner in January, killing many Iranian passengers and refusing to take responsibility for three days. Gas Under $1? — It’s Possible

While many Americans are grateful for lower gas prices... the opportunity to save at the gas pump could not have come at a worse time. According to the gas price site GasBuddy.com., the average price across the United States is currently at $2.19. Their analysts predict some gas stations even seeing price drops as low as 99 cents. AAA is currently reporting the national average of gas prices has declined to $2.17 with 19 states being under $2.00 per gallon. This is the lowest it’s been since December 2016. Coupled with the coronavirus pandemic, the oil wars between Russia and Saudi Arabia has caused a downward spiral in the financial markets, causing much concern in the US energy industry. The last time Saudi Arabia lowered the price of oil, it caused massive job losses in the energy sector. We Don’t Need Divisive Attacks 

on Legislative Prayer

{ dailysignal.com } ~ Opening public meetings with prayer is such a long-standing American tradition that it is puzzling why some continue to seek the demise of the practice based on subjective claims that such prayers are “inappropriate and divisive.”... Consider these news reports just since Jan. 26: A newspaper in Venice, Florida, reported that the Venice City Council may end its practice of praying before public meetings, following a complaint by a group from Wisconsin. In Ohio, members of the New Carlisle City Council changed their premeeting prayers to a moment of silence to end an emerging controversy. In Las Vegas, the Clark County School District ended prayers entirely, again after a “watchdog” group complained. In Connersville, Indiana, the city council  reconsidered its policies after a local resident asked to present an invocation that is secular, rather than religious. Following their lead, county leaders reportedly are considering doing the same. The West Virginia House of Delegates now faces a complaint for the seconds long prayer opening its recent session—this only a few weeks after suggestions that the city of Wheeling, West Virginia, switch to a secular prayer. These attacks on the time-honored tradition of legislative invocations not only ignore history and tradition, but also the unequivocal language of the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court has twice in the last half-century upheld the longstanding, religiously expressive practice of legislative prayer...

Trump Goes Big

The Trump administration made it clear yesterday that it is going to propose a big economic stimulus package to boost the economy, which is being hammered by the coronavirus fallout. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin is on Capitol Hill discussing the plan with Senate Republicans.

The White House is seeking approximately $850 billion in tax relief and loans to industries most affected by the economic shutdown. While President Trump prefers a payroll-tax “holiday,” the White House signaled it is open to direct cash payments to households ASAP.

Mnuchin told reporters, “We’re looking at sending checks to Americans immediately… [Laid off] Americans need cash now. And the president wants to get cash [out] now.” In addition, he said the administration would defer owed tax payments interest-free and penalty-free for 90 days. 

Here’s the most important thing: The Trump/Pence team worked through the night to develop this stimulus plan. It is committed to getting us through this crisis, and all options are on the table.

Combatting the Coronavirus

Monday the White House released new recommendations for combatting the Chinese coronavirus (COVID-19). Here’s what you need to know:

• Follow the directions of your state and local authorities.

• If you feel sick, stay home. Do not go to work. Contact your medical provider.

• If your children are sick, keep them at home. Contact your medical provider.

• If someone in your household has tested positive for the coronavirus, keep the entire household at home.

• If you are an older American, stay home and away from other people.

• If you are a person with a serious underlying health condition — such as a significant heart or lung problem — stay home and away from other people.

In addition, the White House is also urging Americans to:

• Work from home whenever possible.

• Avoid gatherings of more than 10 people.

• Avoid bars, restaurants and food courts. Use delivery, pickup and drive-thru options when possible.

• Avoid discretionary travel.

• Avoid unnecessary visits to nursing homes and retirement centers.

These guidelines build on the CDC’s recommendations to fight the spread of the virus, and everyone can do their part. Everyone should avoid touching their face, continue washing their hands regularly for at least 20 seconds, and wipe down surfaces — tables, countertops, keyboards, etc. — in the home often.

Even those who are young and healthy are at risk. But most importantly, your activities can increase the risk of spreading the coronavirus to others who are in more danger from it, specifically those over 70 and people with serious preexisting medical problems.

Yesterday, the White House also announced new “telemedicine” options for Medicare recipients, as well as reforms to burdensome HIPAA laws and regulations. And it’s worth repeating that under Trump’s leadership a vaccine for COVID-19 has been approved in record time.

Left-Wing Hate

It would be nice if in a time of crisis we could all come together for the good of the country. Sadly, that’s not happening. 

Many on the left are exploiting this crisis, desperately hoping they can use it to take down Trump. They are lying to you and contributing to the fear and panic that has gripped the country. 

Here are some examples of what I am referring to:

• Speaker liar-Nancy Pelosi tried to hijack an emergency spending bill to subsidize abortions. Only the left can see a piece of time-sensitive and life-saving legislation as an opportunity to kill more unborn babies. Thankfully, the provision was dropped.

• During a conference call with governors, the president encouraged them to try getting respirators and ventilators themselves because it could be quicker while adding that the federal government would support them however it can. But The New York Times only reported the first part of Trump’s remarks, and that’s the part that went viral. (Pun intended.) Dozens of news outlets ran misleading headlines suggesting that Trump had essentially abandoned the states.

• Some so-called “progressives” are hoping Trump and his conservative supporters get sick and die.

• Some leftists like anti-Second Amendment activist David Hogg and Rep. Rashida Tlaib mocked  Christians for praying during this crisis.

• They have pushed political correctness and thrown around accusations of racism.

• They falsely accused the president of dismantling  the White House office of pandemic preparedness.

• They lied and claimed he gutted the budgets of vital health agencies.

• They falsely accused the president of calling the virus a hoax.

I could go on, but you get the point.

Looking Ahead

Since many leftists are obsessed with politicizing this virus, let’s examine how it could play out in the weeks and months ahead. While the stock-market crash and economic uncertainty are not good news, the president still has a strong hand to play. For example:

• We saw how Trump grew the economy during the first three years of his administration. Compare that to the eight years of malaise under scumbag/liar-nObama/loose lips liar-Biden. Who wants to go back to that?!

• Trump can say that he championed border security because we had no idea who was coming into the country and whether they were sick or not. But the left fought him tooth and nail every step of the way. Now Canada, Germany, and several South American countries are sealing their borders.

• Trump can say that he has led the charge against our dependency on communist China, while liberals like Joe Biden were bowing to Beijing. On this point, I am pleased to report that the White House is considering additional steps to secure our vital medical supply chains.
