In a textbook case of damning with faint praise, the Washington Monthly's Ed Kilgore asserted on Thursday that of all the "dramatically underqualified people" who may run for president in 2016, Ben Carson is the frontrunner.
Kilgore opines that since Carson is black, his popularity with white conservatives "absolve[s] them of any racist motives when they complain about those people on welfare, and indeed accuse white liberals of being the real bigots." (Italics in original.) He adds that should Carson run, "it seems likely he [would] be even more overtly than [Herman] Cain a pure instrument for conservative resentment and—if you will forgive the unavoidable term—whitewashing."
From Kilgore's post, with no memory of Al Sharpton for President 2004 (emphasis added):
The bar for a “viable” presidential candidate was most dramatically lowered in 2012, when pizza entrepreneur and radio gabber Herman Cain briefly led the polls for the Republican nomination to become Leader of the Free World...

There’s no telling how many dramatically underqualified people will run for president in 2016 and ascend from the anonymous ranks of cranks and perennial candidates whose campaigns toil in perpetual obscurity. Some, like former U.N. Ambassador John Bolton, may even have minimal on-paper credentials and thereby muscle his way onto debate platforms. But the candidate of that nature most likely to make a splash is Dr. Ben Carson, a distinguished neurosurgeon and philanthropist (and also a conservative Christian motivational speaker and writer) who’s become the Latest Big Thing on the conservative defying-the-left circuit...
Now that reliable expositor of the conservative CW, the Weekly Standard’s Fred Barnes, reports that Carson is getting serious about a presidential run, which he describes more or less as a trip down the road to Golgotha:
“It’s a daunting thing,” he told me. “I know how vehemently the left will come after you, try to destroy you, try to destroy your family. But at the same time I recognize that people like Nathan Hale - he said, ‘My only regret is I have but one life to give to my country’ … And if everybody runs for the hills because they’re afraid that somebody is going to attack them or their family, then [the left] will have won.”

I do not believe it has anything to do with the color of a mans skin. It my mind it has to do with where is heart is and where he stands with God. The men mentioned in my other post are all very intelligent with excellent ideas about our country and how to turn things around. Being men of God they know right from wrong because they follow Gods teachings. I hope people will not confuse the color of skin that Carson, West and Cain have with what we now have in the White House and the Justice Department.. Ted Cruz is another man working hard for our country and trying to turn things around. We must not allow the Republican establishment to put up another Moderate to run for President or we will surely lose again.
Eileen G. Jones I would like to say thank you for your post. I also think Dr. Ben Carson, Lt. Col. Allen West and Mr. Cain are very intelligent men who sincerely care about the US and would set about doing what is right to turn our country around. It is no mistake that these strong men are men of God so call on a higher authority than most of the rest to lead their decisions.
I bet you right now. That the liberals will find some woman or women who will claim Ben sexually harassed them like they did to Cain in 2012. You watch ! They'll try anything. NEVER trust a liberal !
I'm with JJParker..tired of black caucus,black student unions,etc...if thats how its going to be..then lets have a white caucus,white student union etc...I VOTE for the most traditional,constitutionalist,patriotic candidate and if that is Dr.Carson then so be it..No matter what color...when are the liberals going to stop playing the race card..TIRED of it..
I don't know about the rest of America but I have all I can take of "Illegal aliens," Black Presidents, Black Congresses, Blacks, Blacks etcetera!
I think conservstive America will vote for anyone who will reverse the disastrous policies and laws of obama, be they black, white, yellow, red, brown. Anyonevwho will stop worrying about thevwesther and focus on putting Americans back to work.
Is this now the new standard... we mush have an affirmative action President... a man of color or we can not expect to win? I like Dr. Carson, but is he really qualified to be President? I am certain he is more qualified than Obama but was Obama qualified... no. We are indeed in some state of "dope-initiated hallucination of not political reasoning, but ‘American Idol’ form of politics"
When will the People wake up too the ridiculousness of such political theater ... how easily we are manipulated by some misplaced sense of GUILT associated with slavery and our great, great grand parents, past sins? It is time to rid ourselves of the pundits that drive this bigotry and racist agenda... putting race before common sense and our nations need for well qualified men and women as candidates for high political office.
It would be nice if Dr. Carson were elected to Congress or some other political office before assuming he is qualified to be President... he may be a terrific Doctor but does that translate into a superior political leader? I don't know and personally I would not like to have too choose between him and another candidate of dubious qualification. How about seeking office at the State or Congressional level first Dr. Carson?

This Gilmore is one, a liar and two, he must have his head in the sand! We have the most irresponsible President that ever even could be elected in office right now! We also note how honorable Dr. Ben is! We also note how dishonorable Obama is with his constant lying! Almost all of us note how much a racist Al Sharpton is and anti-American! We know how Obama feels about America and our flag, yet fools elected 2x!
Kilgore is right about one thing. We should not elect incompetent, unqualified, self serving leaders. THANK GOD OBAMA CAN'T RUN ANY MORE. He has shown us what we should not put in the white house.
I get the feeling that liberal/progressives are afraid of something. Let us keep them that way.
