CHLOROQUINE COMING SOON IN LIMITED USE

{ powerlineblog.com } ~ President Trump presided at today’s White House task force briefing to announce regulatory relief for the use of chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine to treat the Wuhan virus... This was the briefing’s headline news, though many of the questions went off in other directions. President Trump expressed enthusiasm about the possibilities presented by these drugs specifically, an enthusiasm which he emphasized several times. Indeed, he circled back to express it toward the conclusion of the briefing. Despite the restraint with which he expressed himself, I believe he is as excited about the prospects for relief as we are. We are talking about drugs already approved for other uses, drugs whose risks and side effects are therefore well known.  The president had FDA Commissioner Stephen Hahn in attendance with him to discuss the therapies whose use the FDA is expediting. As I understood Hahn’s remarks, the use of chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine is to be limited at present to compassionate use situations while clinical data are compiled. He stated that these already approved anti-malarial and anti-arthritis drugs would be “made available almost immediately by prescription.” He also discussed the expedited use of other therapeutics that are “close to approval.” Given the urgency of the situation, the vagueness and limitations of the anticipated use of these drugs as I heard Hahn’s remarks was frustrating.  Reading or listening between the lines of Trump’s remarks, I also heard Trump saying he hopes to ease the current federal guidelines that have resulted in shutdowns at the end of the current two-week period. Whether that hope is reasonable under the circumstances is another question. The target date for legislation directing the financial relief is early next week. The underlying economy is strong. The treasury response is targeted to those who need short-term relief. Phase-2 was the spread to the warehouse and distribution... Phase-3 impacts are further upstream, processing & suppliers. The current shelf-stock shortages are not soon to reconcile; however, the shortages are still in the regional phase.  Meaning there is a big difference in the availability of products depending on the type of distribution network, and the specific retailers, in your area. The ‘spider-spread effect’ happens when large metropolitan chains, serving large urban and megalopolis areas 1 million+ residents in 50 mile radius, reach a critical shortage in their supply network; and those residents then drive distances to locate their needs. This is going on now across the country as regional supply chains try to keep up with demand.  Most consumers are not aware food consumption in the U.S. is now a 50/50 proposition. Approximately 50% of all food was consumed “outside the home” or food away from home, and 50% of all food consumed was food “inside the home” grocery shoppers...

{ reuters.com } ~ U.S. Senate Democratic Leader Chuck scumbag-Schumer on Wednesday warned of an economic recession as the coronavirus spreads through the country... and called for a broader cash payment than Trump’s push for $1,000 checks. “The coronavirus is slowing our economy to a near standstill and we are almost certainly anticipating a recession,” scumbag-Schumer said in a speech on the Senate floor. He added that expanded unemployment benefits would be a more effective way of helping workers than a $1,000 check from Washington. Former scumbag/liar-nObamacare official Andy Slavitt appears on MSNBC in a state of panic to demand that all medical masks and equipment throughout the nation be sent to New York City; while accusing other states, including Texas, of “hoarding” critical healthcare supplies. Former FEMA Administrator Craig Fugate recognizes that participating in any discussion with this level of emotional panic is not going to be helpful, he walks off set. Panicked NYC resident and visibly unstable former ACA official Andy Slavitt, is talking about medical equipment when he demands all masks and supplies be redirected to New York with a sense of urgency. However, imagine *if* the shortage *was* food. Prepare yourselves and your family accordingly.

Overwhelmed by Growing Coronavirus Death 

Toll, Iranian Leaders Lash Out at US, EU

In an interview with the Spanish newspaper La Razon, Hassan Qashqavi — the Islamic Republic’s ambassador in Madrid — railed against the “cruel and inhumane” sanctions imposed by the US following its 2018 decision to leave the nuclear deal with Iran that was agreed with the previous scumbag/liar-nObama administration. The 147 coronavirus deaths in Iran on Wednesday marked the highest daily toll in the country so far. Nearly 1,200 Iranians in total are reported to have died — although the regime’s lack of transparency and increasing reliance on the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to enforce “social distancing” protocols likely means the number is higher. The European Union also came in for heavy criticism from Iranian leaders for abiding by the US sanctions. “The Europeans who claim to be advocates of human rights should be ashamed of their behavior at a time when Iran is grappling with the fast-spreading-virus,” Ali Baqeri Kani — head of the Iranian Judiciary’s High Council for Human Rights — declared on Thursday. There is a growing opinion among Iran analysts that the coronavirus presents an unprecedented challenge to the Islamic regime that came to power in 1979, especially as it had already been weakened by the renewal of international sanctions and the US assassination of one of its top military commanders, Gen. Qassem Soleimani, in January. “The regime is not ready for this challenge,” Maj. Gen. (ret.) More Regulation Yields Worse Products

Thomas Gallatin  What happened to the gas can? In a recent interview with American Institute researcher Jeffrey Tucker, journalist Sharyl Attkisson explores the topic of how government regulation has made things that used to work well now fail to meet muster. After relaying his experience with changes to the gas can and how poorly it pours out its contents, Tucker noted that government regulations are to blame. But it’s not only the gas can that has been regulated into a state worse than before; it’s a litany of devices and appliances that have been made worse by the government.

“These are the sorts of things that affect the quality of our life on a daily basis,” Tucker observes. “Does your ice maker actually make ice? Does your iron work? And this is all because of these regulations. Isn’t it strange how much regulations sort of secretly control all the things we use in our life? We don’t even know it. And they’ll never roll it back, so they never face any real pressure. So there’s no way to revert it. Whereas normally, in private enterprise, if you design something that doesn’t quite work right, people stop buying it and that’s the end, so there’s a mechanism that corrects for errors. But when government’s doing it, they don’t seem to have any way to fix it.”

Tucker’s discovery is not limited to a few inconsequential items. In fact, it’s the all-too-common experience of every American. While he grants that these bureaucrats’ regulations may be well intentioned, he argues, “The problem is that the bureaucrats have inordinate power and if they make a mistake, there’s really nothing that can be done about it. We ended up having to spend the rest of our lives working around them and I don’t think that’s a good way to live. We used to have gasoline cans that worked well. And then we created this innovation that just didn’t work nearly as well.”

In this light, we should be crying foul when politicians like New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio call for the federal government to take over private enterprise, as he did recently over coronavirus fears. “People can get tested according to a priority structure, and it’s not enough testing. It’s just as simple as that,” de Blasio argued after he called on the fed to take control of U.S. businesses in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. He continued, “Here’s the reality. This is a war-like situation. We’re in a war-time scenario with a ‘Mar-a-Lago attitude’ being used by the federal government, right? … This is a case for a nationalization, literally a nationalization, of crucial factories and industries that could produce the medical supplies to prepare this country for what we need.”

Calling for a fascist takeover of America’s private industry is a textbook recipe for ushering in tyranny. And “helping people” is always how tyrants justify their demand for greater power. Somehow, it never works out the way they claim.   ~The Patriot Post
