It’s still not clear yet if California’s Democrat Gov. Gavin Newsom will even face a recall election this year, but if he does, allies of former President Donald Trump are abuzz about one potential candidate: former acting Director of National Intelligence Richard Grenell.

All eyes in Trump-world are on Grenell, who served as U.S. ambassador to Germany before Trump appointed him the first-ever openly gay cabinet member in U.S. history when he ran the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI).

I think what you just pointed out with leadership in Texas and what Matt Gaetz has pointed out about leadership in Florida, that’s what California needs,” Grenell said in an appearance alongside Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) on Sean Hannity’s Fox News program this week. “We are dying to have somebody who listens to the science. We have Gov. Gavin Newsom who shut down the beaches. Now, this is not part of science. We have a governor who plays politics. But we also have a state that is completely run by one party. If you want to have the insiders from one political party, and the well-connected constantly get what they want, then you have to keep electing the same people over and over and that’s what we have in California. I think Gov. Abbott is exactly right. We need more freedom and we certainly shouldn’t be shutting down churches or beaches.”

In response to those comments, Hannity asked Grenell if he was announcing running for governor of California — noting that if he did run, he would have “mine and Matt Gaetz’s endorsement.”

  • Hey everyone out there you do not want John Cox he is from Illinois and a moderate. He is not a conservative. You want to go with Kevin my first choice second would be Rick. I may get to see them at central committee in Riverside, Ca.  Forget  about John Cox he's out.

  • I think Ric Grenell would be an excellent choice, but this will be totally up to him.  His whole body, heart and soul has to be ready for the fight because it will be a street brawl!  And remember, besides Newsom, you have to get rid of a lot of other disreputables.  Look at President Trump for example.  He tried to do his best to put reliable people in charge of various departments and it did not always work out that way.  Disreputable people lie and have no compuction about it.

  • Grenell has two things going for himself. (1) He was ambassador to Germany. Therefore, he experienced liberalism first hand and he knows how to fight it. (2) He is upholding his pledge of allegiance to Trump and remains fiercly loyal to Trump as any patriot does, too.

    • I agree with you 100%

    • True Paul, but Grenell has to shake the suspicions of being a member of the Intelligence community (the Director, no less), a prolific player group in Deep State D.C.

GOP Ex-San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer is also waiting in the wings, either after recall or in standard cycle. He bears looking over.

Still, the lanky grinning Joker Governor knows the penalty for folly is coming.  Will he grin and bear it then? I relish it.

  • What happened to Cox who ran against Newsom?  I liked him and donated to his campaign.  Call me what you want, but I don't like all these "proud" gays everywhere I look.

    • Yes, he was an excellent Choi then, but the Dems were harvesting votes then, also.

And be warned, they'll do it again!

  • I think Grenell would be a great choice for Governor of California.

  • I have relatives in Ca, who are very excited about running

  • I like Grenell, but no, not for California Governor!
