Afghanistan: Our Troops Deserved a Better End
On October 7, 2001, our nation, still reeling from the world-altering terrorist attack of a month earlier, launched Operation Enduring Freedom. We did so with fearsome airstrikes from B-1s, B-2s, B-52s, and assorted carrier-based strikes that pounded our al-Qaida and Taliban enemies where they lived — in Afghanistan. Our ground forces followed soon thereafter, and elements of them have been there ever since.
Said President George W. Bush at the time: “When I take action, I’m not going to fire a $2 million missile at an empty $10 tent and hit a camel in the butt” – an obvious swipe at his White House predecessor, scumbag/liar-Bill Clinton, who never took the fight to our jihadist foes. Said Bush’s defense secretary, the recently deceased Donald Rumsfeld, to a curious reporter at a press briefing: “We aren’t running out of targets – Afghanistan is.”
How times have changed.
Yesterday, President bumble/socialist/scumbag/liar-Joe Biden said our military mission in Afghanistan will end by August 31, and he called on the country’s leaders to “come together” to prevent civil war. “We did not go to Afghanistan to nation-build,” he said.
Nor did we go there and spend 20 years of American blood and treasure only to slink away in the dead of night. Our troops deserved better. Much better. They deserved to form up and march away in broad daylight, chins up and chests out. Instead, as Fox News reports:
Taliban forces are gaining momentum, pushing the Afghanistan government’s forces out of several districts and taking control of various weapons and military vehicles in the process, while the U.S. withdraws from the country.
Insurgents have taken 900 guns, 70 sniper rifles, and 65 vehicles, Sky News reported. While this happens, the Afghanistan government continues to lose territory, having already left seven districts as the Taliban assumes control. U.S. Central Command announced Tuesday that the drawdown is more than 90% complete and handed over seven facilities to the Afghan military.
The Associated Press reported that the U.S. did not even tell Afghanistan when they were departing the Bagram Airfield. After controlling the space for roughly 20 years, American forces shut off the electricity and left at night without informing the base’s new Afghan commander, the AP reported. Afghan military officials said looters came in and damaged the base before Afghanistan’s army could assume control.
National security analyst Thomas Jocelyn recently outlined the reality on the ground: “Just two weeks after President bumble/socialist/scumbag/liar-Biden announced on April 14 his decision to withdraw all American forces from Afghanistan … The Taliban launched a massive offensive. Since May 1, the jihadists have captured a large swath of the country, laying the groundwork for the resurrection of their Islamic emirate. America and its allies have remained mostly indifferent — retreating from the battlefield as the jihadists advance. This is what a lost war looks like.”
Imagine that. The Taliban can’t be trusted. Perhaps that’s why bumble/socialist/scumbag/liar-Biden got a bit testy yesterday with a PBS journalist.
When asked whether he trusted the Taliban, bumble/ socialist/scumbag/liar-Biden answered, “Is that a serious question? No, I do not trust the Taliban. It’s a silly question. Do I trust the Taliban? No.”
It should be noted that we negotiated our withdrawal from Afghanistan with the Taliban.
As the Wall Street Journal editorial board reports, bumble/ socialist/scumbag/liar-Biden dismissed any suggestions that today’s departure from the Afghan capital of Kabul is anything akin to our nation’s departure from the South Vietnamese capital of Saigon in 1975. “Let’s hope he’s right,” they write, “but the trends aren’t good, which is why the press is finally daring to ask hard questions. Mr. bumble/socialist/scumbag/liar-Biden denied media reports that the U.S. intelligence community estimates that the Kabul government could fall within six months.”
What must our warriors be thinking? Twenty years, and all our efforts could be overturned in a few months? Here’s a sample of what they’re thinking, and it comes from Captain Sam Brown, a disabled U.S. Army vet who nearly burned to death in Afghanistan: “Our abrupt departure did real damage to the Afghan army’s chances of success. The equipment, vehicles, arms and ammunition we left behind have now been looted by the Taliban, strengthening an enemy that enthusiastically supports terrorism. What we tried to accomplish as a nation, what I and so many others fought for was damaged by the Biden administration’s negligence.”
On the bright side, as the Journal notes: “Mr. bumble/ socialist/scumbag/liar-Biden has finally agreed to have Afghan translators and their families who helped Americans airlifted to a third country as they await the visas to the U.S. they were promised. This is welcome news, but it underscores how perilous life will be for our Afghan allies as the Taliban take more territory.”
Summing up: It was time to leave Afghanistan. On this matter, Presidents Donald Trump and bumble/socialist/ scumbag/liar-Joe Biden and the vast majority of the American people agree. But the way we’re leaving is disgraceful. And it is, sadly, an exit all too befitting our current commander-in-chief.

It didn’t have to be this way.
One of the major accomplishments of Donald Trump’s administration was moving America down the road toward energy independence. We began producing more oil here at home, becoming one of the world’s top oil producers and for the first time in 75 years exporting more than we imported. This had a broad impact on our economy by lowering prices on food and consumer goods, as well as making a commute to work more affordable. It also allowed the U.S. to avoid becoming dependent on the political agreements of OPEC nations.
It didn’t take long for bumble/socialist/scumbag/liar-Biden to make America energy dependent once again.
On his second day in the Oval Office he signed an executive order immediately canceling the Keystone XL Pipeline permit. And now he’s being sued for $15 billion for that politicized breach of North American free-trade obligations. Taxpayers might get a double whammy — higher gas prices and a $15 billion bill.
bumble/socialist/scumbag/liar-Biden’s move was publicized as a way to address the “climate crisis,” but the editors at The Wall Street Journal highlight what’s really going on here:

liar-Biden’s explicit policy goal is to reduce U.S. oil and gas production, limiting the global supply of fossil fuels in the name of fighting climate change. Yet his Administration is now imploring the OPEC oil cartel to pump more oil so U.S. gasoline prices don’t rise more than they already have on Mr. bumble/socialist/scumbag/liar-Biden’s watch.
This is bad timing for U.S. consumers.
Some states are only now finally emerging from COVID lockdowns and more people are heading back to work and other places. All that activity requires energy. According to the Journal, “U.S. petroleum consumption is now roughly where it was at this time in 2019. OPEC estimates that oil demand in industrialized countries will increase by 2.7 million barrels a day this year.”
The argument that oil production contributes to climate change falls flat on its face again. How do we know? Biden and the Democrats are perfectly willing to let other countries produce oil and control the markets at the expense of American sovereignty and economic strength.
The reality is we need to be producing more oil at home during a time when demand continues to increase. The bumble/socialist/scumbag/liar-Biden administration knows this, but it’s caving to the climate change crowd rather than taking care of hard-working Americans who could use a break with soaring inflation and rising gas prices.
When other countries call the shots on oil production, American drivers are the losers every time. Now, experts believe infighting among OPEC allies and Saudi Arabia will result in even higher fuel prices in July and August.
Prices are already at a seven-year high. The current national average, according to AAA, is $3.14 compared to $2.18 a year ago. That’s a bit unfair because of low demand a year ago, but $3.14 is high regardless.
Where prices go from here is heavily dependent upon whether or not “Saudi Arabia and UAE can reach an agreement — although it is unclear when talks will resume if at all,” according to Fox Business. “On Sunday, the UAE pushed back against the OPEC Plus group, which includes non-OPEC producers like Russia. The UAE said it supported a proposed gradual increase in production favored by Saudi Arabia, the group’s largest producer, and by non-member Russia. But the UAE said it also wanted an increase in its own permitted level of production.”
In other words, Americans are completely dependent on the outcome of political infighting among oil-producing nations. That’s unacceptable, and so is the bumble/ socialist/scumbag/liar-Biden administration claiming to be saving us 16 cents on a cookout when our wallets are being gouged at the gas pump. ~The Patriot Post
Cameras in the Classroom?
More American parents are growing concerned and doing something about the leftist indoctrination that is increasingly taking place in the nation’s public schools. But, as the old cartoon PSA from the ‘80s said, knowing is half the battle. If parents really want to know what, exactly, is happening in the classroom, “Why don’t we have cameras in every classroom?”
That’s the question asked by Fox News host Tucker Carlson, who discussed the subject with Daily Wire commentator Matt Walsh.
Walsh says we should have cameras. “It makes total sense that, obviously, we should want to know what our kids are being taught,” he said. “Teachers as government employees, in their capacity as government employees working with kids, shouldn't get privacy or free speech,” he asserted, addressing the Left’s primary objections. Besides, Walsh wants to know, “Is there anything that could happen inside a public school classroom that you absolutely would not want on film? And if you can think of something that could happen like that, it shouldn’t be happening in the classroom to begin with.”
Given that we already know a lot, Walsh makes a good point. As we noted earlier this week, according to the National Education Association, all K-12 schools should teach children that “white supremacy, anti-Blackness, anti-indigeneity, racism, patriarchy, cis-hetero-patriarchy, capitalism, ableism, and anthropocentrism” form the oppressive foundation of our culture and society.
In other words, the NEA wants the racist and Marxist ideology of Critical Race Theory taught in every classroom in America. No wonder these union thugs don’t want it on camera.
And then there’s the sexualization of children, and sometimes even physical abuse.
Leftist opponents liken the idea of cameras to George Orwell’s 1984, which is almost hilariously ironic given that it is they, not conservatives, who are behaving as Big Brother and the Thought Police. It is they who wish to control the present, past, and future, and to eradicate “wrongthink” by any means necessary.
To be sure, though, not every conservative is on board with the idea of classroom cameras. “I do want parents to know what their kids are being taught at all times,” says Allie Beth Stuckey. “But I care about kids’ privacy, too. I don’t want them to be recorded & watched by other parents all day.” Moreover, she adds, “That’s a lot of potential for creepiness, hacking, AND a lot of pressure on students knowing everyone’s parents may be watching their every move.”
Well then, just focus cameras on teachers and the chalkboard, right? Perhaps, but there are an awful lot of truly good teachers out there, and what if someone — anyone — doesn’t like something they said? We all know how videos can be taken out of context to vilify a disfavored target, and even the best teachers have a bad day or a bad moment.
“BETTER idea than cameras in public school classrooms: homeschool,” says Liz Wheeler.
Dennis Prager agrees, writing before the camera debate even began: “The single best thing Americans can do to counter the left-wing attack on America — against its freedoms, its schools, its families, its children, its governmental institutions, its sports, its news and entertainment media, its medical establishment, the CIA, the FBI, the State Department and the military — is to take their children out of America’s schools.”
The system, he says, “is actively, deliberately miseducating them by the tens of millions,” and our kids are “guinea pigs in the left’s sick and dystopian experiment.”
Homeschooling is indeed growing quickly, but it’s not always an option for parents, and public schools are almost certainly here to stay. So how do parents better know and influence what their kids are learning? That will be an ongoing and healthy debate, the best outcome of which would be more engaged parents and resilient kids who know how to think. ~The Patriot Post
BSA — The Bankrupt Scouts of America
“On my honor, I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; To help other people at all times; To keep myself physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight.” (Oath, Boy Scouts of America)
As an executive board member serving a historic Boy Scouts of America council, a former Troop leader for many years, and a father of two Eagle Scouts, the fall of this once great youth organization established in 1910 has been discouraging, to put it mildly. Our years with Scouting were great — lots of challenges and achievements, stewarding youngsters toward a life defined by integrity and character, many campfire conversations, good friends, etc.
The BSA announced last week its $850 million settlement with thousands of abuse claimants, the vast majority being from many decades ago.
I should clarify that the bankruptcy filing was by the National BSA organization, which has now morphed into just “Scouting,” as the organization is now open to girls. However, Scout Councils across the nation operate as independent entities, and many of those are still rock-solid conservative scouting organizations.
In a 2016 essay titled “The Boy Scouts’ ‘Gay Pride’ Merit Badge,” I wrote about how the leftist “homosexual agenda” had infiltrated the BSA’s national board.
In January of 2013, in a “Letter to an Eagle Scout,” I responded to the dismay over a proposal by the BSA National Board to remove the membership restriction regarding sexual orientation. In May of that year, the BSA’s national board, under the “leadership” of wealthy corporate types who were completely out of touch with grassroots Scouting values, promoted and implemented a national policy to sponsor homosexuals in Scout troops. It was clear then that the next policy change would be inviting homosexual leaders.
Indeed, in May of 2015, the BSA’s national board announced that it would open its ranks to adult homosexuals, a self-destructive policy that the board officially approved two months later. Of course, it would follow then that in 2017, the BSA’s national board announced that it would open its ranks to “transgendered boys.” (As I noted then, there is no such thing as “transgendered.” Gender-disoriented people may “identify” as another sex, but they will always be the same gender they were when first formed in their mothers’ wombs.)
And so it goes. The national board acquiesced to demands for homosexual leadership, knowing that leftist states like California would force that infusion or shut down the BSA units.
They should have stood their ground. Instead, those wealthy corporate board members abandoned the BSA’s “morally straight” code, and the current massive settlement will not be the last of the abuse charges. The BSA will continue to pay the price for its moral bankruptcy.
Apparently, BSA board members learned nothing from the horrendous record of predatory sexual abuse by priests in the Catholic Church — almost all same-sex, predatory male adults assaulting male children and adolescents. And they did so all the while under the cloud of the pending BSA abuse charges, which have now thrust the National BSA into bankruptcy.
So, where does that leave BSA’s grassroots membership across the nation? The BSA’s leftist agenda has resulted in a youth membership drop between 2019 and 2020 of a whopping 43%, from 1.97 million in 2019 to 1.12 million in 2020. And the BSA’s bankruptcy filing records indicate membership is now down to 762,000.
How did that work out?
Of course, the decline in the last year has been accelerated by other leftist national BSA policies, including an official letter supporting the Marxist so-called “Black Lives Matter” movement, and now a proposed Eagle-required “Diversity, Equity and Inclusion” merit badge. ~The Patriot Post

Sometimes we wonder what makes them say such idiotic things. Marxism is one thing, after all, but insanity is another. Take Democrat Representative and “Squad” member scumbag/worthless-Rashida Tlaib, for example. The other day, on a video interview with some fellow-traveling hard-lefties, she actually said, “We must eliminate funding for CPB [sic], ICE, and their parent organization, DHS.”
That’s right. scumbag/worthless-Tlaib wants to do away with Customs and Border Patrol, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and, since she’s in the neighborhood, the entire 230,000-employee Department of Homeland Security. See for yourself: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Iz33hJfSZQ
Again, why would she say something so obnoxious? Why, given the ongoing calamity on our southern border — the abject humanitarian crisis in which hundreds of thousands of illegals have already streamed across and human traffickers and drug smugglers have operated with impunity amid the all-but open-borders posture of the Biden administration — would she call for the abolition of the very agencies on the front lines? Is she serious, or is she just trolling us?
Our sense is she’s dead serious. What triggered her? A question about the bumble/socialist/scumbag/liar-Biden administration’s day-late, dollar-short request for additional funding for border technology to support CBP. As Fox News reports:
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) border request includes $665 million in investments toward modernizing land ports of entry and $47 million to invest in detection capabilities in addition to investments in border surveillance technology.
But activists have expressed concern that such funding, along with other methods like facial recognition and DNA testing, are used to ultimately prevent migrants from entering the U.S. Tlaib was asked how they could “turn the tide” at the congressional level on the funding for such methods.
We’ll say this: Eliminating every border enforcement mechanism available to us would certainly “turn the tide.” Clearly, even the thought of a secure border is too much for scumbag/worthless-Tlaib to bear.
“Time after time,” she said, “we have seen it as advocates on the ground … that these agencies are inept to humanely guide migrants through our immigration system and instead they further continue to terrorize migrant communities located within our communities.”
At least Tlaib isn’t blaming Donald Trump for bumble/ socialist/scumbag/liar-Joe Biden’s border mess. But she doesn’t have to — not when she has Leftmedia lickspittles like NBC’s Hayes Brown to do the dirty work. “Trump’s border security theater hasn’t ended,” he wrote recently on the NBC News website, “it’s gotten worse. Now GOP governors are sending National Guard members to Texas and Arizona as political props.”
If by “theater” Brown meant “effectiveness,” he might have a point. But he didn’t, so he doesn’t. National Review’s Jim Geraghty rightly takes him to task. “First, it’s amazing that former president Donald Trump is managing to ‘worsen’ ‘border security theater’ almost six months after leaving office,” writes Geraghty. “Trump no longer holds any authority over any portion of the military, U.S. National Guard, or Border Patrol officers or policies. If he did, things would be quite different.”
Things would be different all right, but the mainstream media would still be churning out fake news. As Geraghty points out, bumble/socialist/scumbag/liar-Biden’s own DHS requested the additional Guard support for its Customs and Border Protection efforts, and it wasn’t just “GOP governors” deploying those “political props” — unless Wisconsin Democrat Governor Tony Evers, who committed 125 of his state’s National Guardsmen to the effort, is a closet Republican.
The Democrats have a hard-earned reputation for being weak on border security. And no amount of media misdirection is going to change it. ~The Patriot Post

A Deadly Weekend
We’re now five days past the July 4th weekend. While many Americans celebrated our nation’s birthday, much of the political left spent the weekend railing against America, its founding, its values and the danger of white supremacy, which they claim is descending over the entire country.
Meanwhile, as the days pass, we are receiving “after-action reports” from major U.S. cities. While the “fog of war” makes it difficult to nail down specific numbers, it appears that approximately 400 Americans were shot over the July 4th weekend. Of those 400, 150 were killed.
That’s approximately the same number of U.S. soldiers killed in Afghanistan during the entirety of 2008. Of course, we are currently withdrawing from Afghanistan, and as a nation we’re also withdrawing from large swaths of Chicago, Minneapolis, New York City, Portland, San Francisco and Seattle.
Again, we don’t have precise figures, but of the 400 who were shot and the 150 who died, the victims overwhelmingly were African American, as were the shooters.
Yes, black lives do matter. So why aren’t we hearing more about this carnage? Mark your calendars, friends, I don’t do this often, but scumbag-Al Sharpton deserves some credit for being a “voice of reason” on this particular issue.
Curiously, I have not heard of one case in all those hundreds that involved a white supremacist or a racist cop killing a minority American.
And yet from top to bottom, from the president to big city mayors, America’s politically correct leadership is running around with its hair on fire fretting over a non-existent problem.
There is no dramatic surge of white supremacy in America. America is not a “systemically racist” nation.
By the way, Rep. Ken Buck (R-CO) on Wednesday made a point similar to something I have been arguing: If the left actually believes we are such a horribly racist nation oppressing people of color, then why aren’t socialist/ commie/liar-AOC, Hollywood stars and major sports figures going to the border to stop the poor, unsuspecting illegal aliens from entering this horribly awful country?
Better yet, why aren’t all the leftists rushing to leave?!
Double Standards Of Justice
According to a recent CBS News report, 535 people have been arrested for entering the Capitol Building during a four-hour period on January 6th. One analysis suggests that 70% of them have been released from custody while they await trial. But that means at least 160 are being held without bail.
Of course, in virtually every major city, people who are real threats to the rule of law — street thugs, murderers, rapists, criminal illegal aliens, people with illegal firearms — are routinely released in the name of “justice.”
Now let’s compare those arrested on January 6th with another group of people — the jihadists captured on the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan after 9/11. They were sent to Gitmo and soon became a “cause celebre” for civil libertarian groups and most of the American left.
Keep in mind that these people were linked to the events of 9/11, a real attack on our country that killed thousands of Americans. But it became a badge of honor for lawyers at prestigious Washington, D.C., law firms to do free legal work on behalf of these foreign jihadists who were committed to killing infidels — that’s you and me.
I am not aware of one lawyer at one Washington, D.C., law firm who is expressing any concern for the 160 Americans who, six months later, are still being held without bail. I am not aware of one lawyer at one Washington, D.C., law firm who is offering free legal representation to any of those 160 Americans.
After 9/11, we were told over and over again that we could not call the people at Gitmo and others like them “radical Islamists” because that was smearing a whole group of people, most of whom are not violent. But Biden, Harris, Pelosi and their media allies have routinely referred to the people arrested on 1/6 as “Trump supporters” or as “MAGA mobs.”
The same people who were super careful not to label Muslims enthusiastically smear half the country because of what took place during four hours on Capitol Hill on January 6th, and they are eagerly denying the constitutional rights of their fellow Americans.
And while a handful of people have plead guilty to minor charges, those being held without bail likely won’t get trials until sometime next year. It seems that the goal is to keep this issue alive going into next year’s elections so that guilty verdicts can be handed down as people are heading to the polls. (Election interference, anyone?)
By the way, insurrection is an actual crime. There is a law against it. But no one has as of yet been charged with insurrection. (And just wait until you see the latest “shocking evidence” the FBI has collected in its extensive, on-going investigation!)
So far, the vast majority of the charges are for trespassing, civil disobedience, resisting an officer, etc. — the kind of charges that were routinely dismissed against last year’s looters and rioters in New York City, Portland and Washington, D.C., not to mention the agitators arrested for disrupting Trump’s inauguration in 2017.
The “social justice warriors” who took to the streets last summer caused billions of dollars of damage. Their actions resulted in at least two dozen deaths. The media defended them as “mostly peaceful protestors.” But they were the real insurrectionists, threatening civil society coast to coast.
Defund The Deep State
Last week, Tucker Carlson made headlines when he accused the National Security Agency of spying on him. Carlson’s not stupid. He was suspicious when a whistleblower told him his emails and texts were being monitored, so he demanded proof. He got it.
The whistleblower told Carlson specific things that could have only come from his emails and text messages. He also warned Carlson that the NSA would likely leak the contents of the messages in an attempt to smear him.
Sure enough, Axios reported late Wednesday that Carlson was talking to the Russians. Here we go again — RUSSIA, RUSSIA, RUSSIA!
The truth is that Carlson was attempting to seek an interview with Russian President Vladimir Putin. There’s nothing illegal about journalists interviewing foreign leaders.
What is illegal is that someone in the NSA had to “unmask” Carlson’s name in the intelligence reports in order to leak the details to other journalists.
Carlson is furious, as he should be. And he is demanding answers. On his show Wednesday night, Carlson specifically called out Gen. Paul Nakasone, director of the NSA, and Avril Haines, director of National Intelligence. Carlson warned:
“You can’t have a democracy in a place where unaccountable spy agencies keep people in line by leaking the contents of their emails, discrediting them with their own emails, which they thought were private. It doesn’t work if you allow that.”
While Democrats continue with their insane demands to defund law enforcement, conservatives should seriously consider ways to defund the Deep State that is a willing accomplice in gross political abuses. ~The Patriot Post
DAVID LIMBAUGH
As absurd, extreme and reckless as the American left has been on race, and despite growing public disapproval of their antics, they are doubling down rather than pulling back.
On the Fourth of July, Utah’s Black Lives Matter chapter described the American flag as “a symbol of hatred.”
“When we Black Americans see this flag we know the person flying it is not safe to be around,” it declared. “When we see this flag we know the person flying it is a racist. When we see this flag we know that the person flying it lives in a different America than we do. When we see this flag, we question your intelligence. We know to avoid you. It is a symbol of hatred.”
Lex Scott, the chapter’s founder, was hardly sorry when called out on the statement. “Ever since we put up the post, our page has been flooded with hatred from people who fly the flag,” said Scott. “And we want to thank those people for proving our point.” It seems that all flag-waving patriots are to be lumped in with the Ku Klux Klan, because according to Scott, the Klan “proudly” waves the flag at their rallies. I’m sure it would never occur to Scott that her categorical smear smacks of the same type of shameful mindset that drives racism.
Scott’s statements are not representative of the left, you say? Well, how often have you heard a progressive condemn or even mildly criticize Black Lives Matter? Have you ever heard one criticize its Marxist roots? Aren’t you more likely to see leftists defending the organization and imploring us to understand its genuine grievances?
It’s not just Black Lives Matter — not by a long shot. Pretty much the entire leftist freight train is steamrolling its way through our cultural, educational and media institutions — even our bar associations — not to stamp out actual racism but to ensure that it thrives, to force people to obsess on it as much as they do and to divide us as a people along racial lines.
A friend’s son was given an assignment in a university writing class requiring him, essentially, to explain why white people are privileged and bad. You can nitpick over my words, but you’ve surely heard similar stories. But be careful that you don’t confirm that you’ve heard of such experiences lest you be accused of “white fragility,” you know, the unwillingness to condemn yourself as a racist for what others may or may not have done, and your audacity in disputing the narrative. Just imagine being wrongly accused of one of the most egregious sins imaginable and lifting one of your pinkies in self-defense. How dare you!
Consider a less anecdotal example. American Federation of Teachers president Randi Weingarten asserted that many GOP legislators "are bullying teachers (on the subject of race) and trying to stop us from teaching students accurate history.” She shared her views during a live streamed conference billed as “How to Be an Antiracist.” This teacher’s union has some 1.7 million members, incidentally.
Illustrating her formidable skill at projection, she allowed that these Republicans might just be trying to “raise the temperature on race relations because of the next election.” Even more delusionally, she claimed that “culture warriors are labeling any discussion of race, racism or discrimination as (critical race theory) to try to make it toxic” — as if conservatives launched the so-called culture wars, and as if we are the ones toxifying society through endless, fraudulent stereotypical racial smears.
Apparently, Weingarten is outraged that 26 states — so far — have introduced bills or taken other action to limit or ban the teaching of critical race theory in public schools. She’s not alone. The National Education Association just passed a resolution to “fight back against anti-CRT rhetoric.” The stated intent of the broader resolution — New Business Item 39 — is to share and publicize research that “critiques empire, white supremacy, anti-Blackness, anti-Indigeneity, racism, patriarchy, cisheteropatriarchy, capitalism, ableism, anthropocentrism, and other forms of power and oppression at the intersections of our society.” Orwell was obviously a piker.
The NEA also allocated $56,500 to “research organizations attacking educators doing anti-racist work.” And they want to talk to us about bullying?
These progressive educators don’t think it’s appropriate for parents to stand up against teaching ideas euphemistically dressed up as “accurate history” even though poll after poll shows that a strong majority of Americans have a negative view of critical race theory?
I’m old enough — actually, my kids are old enough — to remember when our society overwhelmingly embraced Martin Luther King Jr.‘s dream that all people be judged by the content of the character rather than the color of their skin. How far we’ve descended.
