A growing number of big-name advertisers, including Coke and Hyundai, are skipping the Super Bowl this year for fear of not striking the right tone amid America’s contentious political landscape.

Several companies have decided not to buy Super Bowl time, some for the first time in over a decade.

The reason? According to the New York Post, the talk from insiders is that members of multiple boardrooms are finally coming to realize that they’re going to infuriate half the country no matter what they do.

In recent years, advertisers were thrilled to push the Black Lives Matter and Antifa ideologies or to push transgenderism and the #MeToo movement. But this year, not so much.

“Every client conversation I’ve had these days is about who is going to be offended by this ad,” Rob Schwartz, chief executive officer of ad agency TBWA\Chiat\Day, told the Post. “There’s a lot of discussion about risk mitigation. What that tends to do is that it makes things very bland and not effective, or it forces you to look at universal topics like hope or humor.

“The country is so divided and split right down the middle that I don’t think that there’s a commercial that will appease both sides,” added Bill Oberlander, co-founder and executive creative of ad agency Oberlander.

The result has been that the Super Bowl will not sell out of its ad spots this year, the paper reported. And some of the companies opting out have been with the NFL’s biggest game for over a decade.

Coca-Cola is out this year, the report said. So is Hyundai, Olay, Avocados From Mexico, Little Caesars, and Ford Motors. Most of these companies have had a Super Bowl ad every year since 2010.

  • "forced to look at universal topics like hope and humor."  Look what they are admitting in that statement.

  • There are some incredible ads out there that are heartwarming and non political such as the puppy and the Clidesdale horses that people love and it will not offend anyone!  Try that some time!!!  Must we always push politics into everything????

    • I agree puppys and horses are the best, BUT still will not watch ANY sports ever!!  They have already ruined sports for ever!

  • I will continue to use this forum, and especially this thread because of it's connection to big corporation attitudes, to ask for everyone to closely look at the companies you are doing business with.  More specifically those that have cozied up to the liberal socialist crowd by not just suspending PAC contributions to those elected offical who on our behalf objected to the electoral college certification but are using it for what seems like publicity.  I say good, let that publicity be bad publicity and boycott them.  Sadly, Walmart whose shoppers were disparaged by HRC has joined that list.  And I thought they were more aligned with the common hard workering American than the elitest socialist snobs.  I do believe Ford is on that list and I know Verizon, AT&T, Marriott, Best Buy, Blue Cross, Boeing (and I was just about to buy a private Dreamliner).  The Washington Compost is more than happy to keep this list updated so please consider boycotting and spreading the boycott news.  I was happy to see Mark Levin last night briefly touch on something to the fact that expressing our disdain with our economic power is one of the few weapons we have.  I have been a rewards member with Marriott for almost 25 years and have written them with a "never again" email.  I have cancelled my ATT owned Direct TV in favor of Fubo (phenomenal if you want to cut the cable).  Dropped my Verizon in favor of Consumer Cellular saving $70/month.  Think of the impact of just 1 million people dropping their Direct TV or Verizon,  Not shopping at Best Buy or Walmart and not staying at a Marriott property or ever buying a book published by Simon and Shuster after they blackballed Senator Hawley.  Publishers have a movement going to ban publishing any book written by a Trump supporter.  Good, tell us who you are and we can avoid buying from you.  Just my 2 cents worth and I hope it gets passed on to million of Patriots in some form or other.

    • I for one are passing it on, THANK you Mr. Rein a patriot!

    • Thank you!  I wondered who I can get to replace Direct TV and Verizon - now I can do the switch.  Haven't done Walmart in years nor Best Buy.  Keep up the list please!

  • I won't be watching the super bowl. Could care less about they're inflated salaries and egos. Until they decide to become an American sport to entertain Americans again, I'll pass.

    • Agreed!  I stopped supporting the National Felons League since mop head started kneeling.

  • what makes these people so crazy, the media and democrart agenda, with the democrats overt lies and a few mass donors help destroy those who don't say and think they way the want you to. We need massive groups to combat this and we move forward, we don't need a sports TV show to respond to the current tyranny.

  • These companies need to be applauded. Yet due to past issues with the overpaid players of sports that think they are more important than the fans or views that watch, the NFL, NBA, or MLB, these have not been on my viewed channels this year. It pains me, yet if enough viewers are like me the sponsors and players will regret forgetting where the money for the salaries and the big stadiums come from.
