Nelson County (KY) GOP censures McConnell

The leadership of the Nelson County Republican Party unanimously approved issuing a formal rebuke of U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell Tuesday evening.

The unanimous vote of the 11 members of the executive committee came about six hours after McConnell took to the U.S. Senate floor and said President Donald Trump provoked a violent mob that attacked the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6.

A censure, or formal rebuke, issued after the vote accused McConnell of “implying (Trump) and his administration lied about the election,” and that “McConnell has abandoned his Republican base that put him in office.”

The censure resolution “demands (McConnell) retract his statements impugning the honor of President Donald J. Trump.”

The comments that sparked the special meeting came just after noon on Tuesday when McConnell issued his strongest comments to date rebuking the president and his actions.

“This mob was fed lies. They were provoked by the President and other powerful people. And they tried to use fear and violence to stop a specific proceeding of the first branch of the federal government which they did not like,” McConnell said.

“But we pressed on. We stood together and said an angry mob would not get veto power over the rule of law in our nation. Not even for one night.

“We certified the people’s clear choice for their 46th president."

Those words amounted to betrayal in the eyes of some of the members who spoke during the Nelson GOP’s teleconference meeting that ran for a little over 10 minutes.

“I think it's despicable. I think it's a shame what he did today, because he used us over the past year to get his sorry butt reelected,” said one of the participants in the call who is not a member of the committee. “He used us.”

A censure “was not good enough,” this caller insisted, he should be removed.

“He’s one of Joe Biden’s best friends.”

Don Thrasher, the chair of the local party who organized the call and censure vote, pointed out there is no provision in the law to recall or remove McConnell. Thrasher said he felt likewise, but with no legal mechanism the censure vote was the most the county party could issue.

    • The State can appoint a new US Senator to replace McConnel... send him with a Writ of Quo Warranto to take the seat McConnel now holds... viola, the Senate has a constitutional crisis which individual is the lawful US Senator... the Constitution claims McConnel must be an inhabitant of the State elected in... however, the State by its statutory law says to qualify as an inhabitant/resident of the State one must live in it ... habitate/reside in the State 183 days a year.  On the face of the argument, McConnel is not qualified to hold his office based on the US Constitution... the rules of the Seate and/or federal statutes may not violate the clear language of the Constitution.

The Gov. of Kentucky and its Legislature need to appoint a CONSTITUTIONALLY QUALIFIED individual to the office now fraudulently occupied by Mitch McConnel.

    • "... however, the State by its statutory law says to qualify as an inhabitant/resident of the State one must live in it ... habitate/reside in the State 183 days a year. "

Residency is the sticking point. Service time in the District on behalf of the state (and possibly vacation time) for the balance + one day is a bit much for me.

I'll go a ways, but the intent is supposed to force federal office holders to touch base with the state needs?

    • I like how you think Colonel.

    • A provison can be carved out by a majority petition when brough by the masses under the 2ed amendment, esp, for the denial of all the 1st amendment protections that have been seriously violated, see Dennis vs. United States (1951)

    • Albert, a "Battle of Athens" (Georgia, that is) looks sexy, but has its downside.

It would beat wholesale slaughter of the electorate though.

Resoration of faith and trust in the vote is primary to me.

    • Simple expulsion doesn't go far enough.  I would prefer something more permanent ....

    • The State of Kentucky should issue a writ Quo Warranto and at the same time issue an arrest warrant for McConnel ... based on his fraudulent election and occupancy of one of Kentucky's US Senators seats in the Congress of the United States.

Even if we lose on this issue it certainly will get McConnel to take notice that the People of Kentucky are out for his blood and that is isn't over until he is out of office and preferably moves to China where he can live with his communist in-laws.

  • Wow, a few good ones. Very good to hear.
