Mitch McConnell has said he is open to opposing any 'unelectable' candidates in 2022, even if they are strongly backed by Donald Trump, as he wrestles with how to handle a deeply-divided party following Trump's impeachment hearing.

McConnell voted on Saturday to acquit the former president, but then publicly attacked him, accusing him of a 'disgraceful dereliction of duty' in his most critical remarks ever uttered.

His tightrope walk between defending and demonizing the former president impressed few.

McConnell's home newspaper, The Lexington Herald-Leader, accused him on Sunday of having 'contorted himself into a strange pretzel-shaped politician hated by everyone'.

    • Why so complex... 'moronic bandits' is easier to spell, has fewer letters, and describes the same group of imbeciles.

    • Yeah, but it's a lot easier to spell Plutocracy than Kleptocratic Kakistocracy...

    •  Kakistocracy!

      What a wonderful word.

      What an appropriate wordage.

If Democrats can't stop acting like losers when they win, America is doomed

  • Deeply divided party.  Only 7 Rep. Sen. voted to impeach Mr. Trump.  You no longer have earned the right to be the minority leader of the Senate.  Go home back to Lexington and retire.

    • there is ONE PARTY that has two wings.  The new world order socialist party has  donkey and elephant wings!!!!!!!!!!

  • The people of Kentucky could sure start the Recall and Ditch MITCH. He is no longer working for us as he promised. Send this Never Trumper to the pasture!

    • How does a state recall action compel the federal response?

I like the idea, but I am just curious.

    •  A Writ of Quo Warranto... challenging McConnel's residency (legal habitation) eligibility to be a US Senator for Kentucky...  based on his lack of residency and habitation in Kentucky for the required 183 days a year.  Let the Kentucky legislature declare him a persona non-grata and ineligible under Kentucky law to claim legal residency or habitation within the state.  The Governor can then appoint a US Senator to fill his vacancy and send the new US Senator to Washington with a Writ Quo Warranto to remove McConnell and install the new US Senator.

    • "A Writ of Quo Warranto..."

And the compulsion of the Senate to recieve AND act upon it? This reminds me of the DOJ investigating itself.

Remember these louses: Congress,SCOTUS, and the DOJ just gave the gate to the 2020 Presidential election winner plus two key Georgia Senate seats, and welded the fraud process with results in place.

Show me the the unavoidable action beyond, "we will take it into consideration".

I want such a thing to occur, but figure we have no quick fix. Damnit!

    • The onus in on the State to inform the Congress that they are withdrawing from the Union when it becomes impossible to deal with the Federal Government.... when lawful acts to redress grievances are not actioned... the State has a right to declare their contract with the Union has been breached and is no longer valid.  Copy the pertinent portions of the Declaration of Independence and let the rejected replacement Senator for McConnel serve it upon the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House... with the KY state legislature simultaneously passing a resolution to secede from the Union.  That ought to get their attention.... especially when they hear reports of all the Federal Agents and Military being removed from their posts and offices.   Just a pipe dream... never happen given the current status of our State's legislatures and Administrations.
