Facebook's Fake Fact-Checkers
Bust The Babylon Bee

by Thomas Gallatin

Opinion in Brief

Burt Prelutsky: “Everybody agrees it’s tragic when innocent people are killed. But why must we pretend that it’s worse when it takes place at a school? How is it better if youngsters are killed at the local mall or at a movie theater or a rock concert? All of them constitute soft targets. Heck, as we saw at Fort Hood, when Major Nidal Hasan murdered a dozen of his fellow soldiers, we, as a society, have become so deranged that even Army bases have become gun-free zones. … My point isn’t to diminish what happened in Parkland but to point out that those on the Left seem to view all murders through a prism of their propaganda value. If they thought they could get more mileage out of church shootings, the endless homicides in Baltimore or the attack on the Republican congressmen at the baseball field in Virginia, they would focus on those crimes. But they realize they can better utilize school shootings emotionally because of the age of the victims, even though those crimes should be the easiest to avoid, simply by using metal detectors at the school entrance, arming and training teachers and coaches, and turning over students showing homicidal tendencies to the cops. … The sad truth is that those calling for commonsense limitations on gun ownership are lying with every breath they take. What they really want is for the federal government to confiscate firearms, the Second Amendment be damned!

mad-Maxine Waters Promises Reparations
To Black Supremacy Parasites – Her Constituents
{ } ~ There isn’t anything that’s more divisive than someone taking something from another person by force... Democrats are all about doing exactly that, through the power of an authoritarian government. Hussein liar-nObama and scum-Eric Holder fomented racial tensions in the final two years of that sham administration and, unless Jeff Sessions gets off his good for nothing behind, they’re coming in back in a few short months. As mad-Maxine Waters has demonstrated over the past months and declares in this event, that looks more like an occupy sit-in than a rally, she’ll do anything to take what others have in the name of social justice communism, with her race-based black supremacist society as the goal.  Clearly in search of a basis for support, mad-Waters accuses President Trump of being a bully looking for the biggest gun and of fueling an arms race. Repairing our military after 8 years of liar-nObama and sequestration is not an act of aggression but one of necessity for survival...

Iran's Supreme Leader Becomes Latest
'Expert' To Weigh In On Gun Control
{ } ~ Iran's supreme leader, the Ayatollah Khamenei, became the latest weapons expert to weigh in on the current debate over U.S. gun policy... Unsurprisingly, the Middle Eastern dictator, who boasts a stranglehold over his own people, suggested that American leaders immediately disarm American citizens. Khamenei’s "hard line" on guns is nothing new. One of the Ayatollah's first orders of business when he came to power was to disarm his own citizens — a technique regularly used by "supreme leaders" to extend their tenures. Ultimately, Khamenei makes a unique case that the Second Amendment is, in fact, an insurance policy against tyranny...Forget you Khamenei.
University OKs Guns on Campus…
6 Months Later the Results Are Breathtaking
by Randy DeSoto
{ } ~ Six months after adopting concealed carry of firearms on campus... the University of Kansas found that the crime rate dropped and there have been zero weapons violations.  The Lawrence Journal-World reported that “crime decreased 13 percent, with 671 criminal offenses reported to KU police in 2017 compared to 770 incidents in 2016, according to a news release from the KU Office of Public Safety.” The newspaper added there have been no weapons’ violations on campus in 2017, while there had been 14 reported since 2008 up to that point...
ISIS supporter tried to recruit
55 children for attacks in London
{ } ~ The UK Metropolitan Police announced today that three men have been convicted on terrorism-related charges... after it was learned they planned to use up to 55 children in attacks throughout London. The thwarted plot was conceived by Umar Ahmed Haque, a 25-year-old from east London who worked as an administrator at “an after-school madrasa at Ripple Road Mosque in Barking.” Two other men were also convicted of playing supporting roles in Haque’s scheme, which targeted “up to 30 groups, businesses and establishments in London.”  UK counterterrorism officials first became suspicious of Haque in Apr. 2016, when “police officers stopped him at Heathrow Airport as he attempted to fly to Istanbul, Turkey.” Istanbul has been a common transit point for jihadists seeking to join the Islamic State or other groups in Syria. The officers discovered that Haque’s phone has been used to perform “detailed searches for terrorist attacks and executions.” Although he couldn’t be charged at the time under existing laws, Haque’s “passport was revoked by the Home Office under Royal Prerogative.”...

Facebook's Fake Fact-Checkers Bust The Babylon Bee

by Thomas Gallatin:  One of our favorite satire sites, The Babylon Bee, recently ran a humorous story entitled “CNN purchases industrial-sized washing machine to spin news before ....” Hours later, Adam Ford, the Bee’s founder, received a notice from Facebook warning that his story had been flagged as false content by its “independent fact-checker” Snopes. Furthermore, the social media giant threatened, “Repeat offenders will see their distribution reduced and their ability to monetize and advertised removed.”                                             To say the least, Ford was surprised — not over being “fact-checked,” as this was not the first time that Snopes has “fact-checked” The Babylon Bee, but rather by the action taken by Facebook. Ford stated, “This is the first time Facebook has used that to threaten us with reduced reach and demonetization.” He added, “Also it seems that anyone who clicked on the article got a notice that it was ‘disputed.’”
Hours later, after suffering a fully deserved barrage of blowback and mockery, Facebook later admitted its action was a mistake: “There’s a difference between false news and satire. This was a mistake and should not have been rated false in our system. It’s since been corrected and won’t count against the domain in any way.
Like Google’s YouTube, Facebook has sought to censor and limit what it calls “fake news” and has increased its efforts since Donald Trump’s election. As part of its anti-fake news efforts, Facebook has teamed up with several leftist “fact-checking” groups. One of these organizations, PolitiFact, explained its work with Facebook, stating, “Our partnership with Facebook is part of a push by the social media company to clean up its news feed and become a more trustworthy platform.” PolitiFact's Aaron Sharackman added, “Facebook introduced a new tool after the 2016 campaign that allows users to mark a post as a ‘false news story,’ and if enough do, the post is sent to fact-checkers like PolitiFact, Snopes and
Following his recent experience with Facebook, Ford opined, “There is no question in my mind that Snopes and Facebook are biased against conservative-leaning content. It’s clear that this is the case. There are always going to be some people who misinterpret satire, but we were intentional from the get-go about not blurring the line between satire and misinformation.” He then astutely observed, “When this exact thing happens to smaller sites, or to people who are unable to make sufficient noise about it when it happens, what can they do? The answer is nothing. They’re out of luck.
Undeterred, on Friday the Bee published a satirical follow-up entitled “Facebook sends warm reminder to publishers that it is in complete c...,” although this may be an instance of reality reflecting satire. Finally, a parting question: Who’s fact-checking the “fact-checkers”?  ~The Patriot Post oks-fake-fact-checkers-bust-the-babylon-bee

Reporter Kicked Out Of Michelle Obama
Conference For Violating ‘Black Girl Code’

The Black Entertainment Television channel recently hosted a conference in south Florida for black women known as “Leading Women Defined,” which featured a casual conversation between former first lady Michelle Obama and former senior White House adviser Valerie Jarrett.

But according to the New York Post’s Page Six, a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist who was in attendance was booted from the remainder of the conference after she wrote an article about some of the comments Obama had made during the discussion.

Robin Givhan, a fashion critic and staff writer for The Washington Post, documented the highlights of the friendly chat between Obama and Jarrett.

Some of the highlights of the conversation included the former first lady’s thoughts on President Donald Trump’s inauguration as the Obamas prepared to leave the White House, the role she played during the 2008 election, her difficulty settling in as “the spouse” to the president, how she described her White House garden as a “subversive act” to garner trust with the public and her upcoming memoir. Of course Givhan also wrote about what Obama was wearing … after all, she is a fashion critic.

But following the publication of the article, according to Page Six, BET demanded Givhan leave the conference early amid claims that she had violated a “sacred space” by publishing the content of the conversation.

They also canceled a panel discussion that Givhan initially had been asked to moderate.

However, Page Six noted that BET’s claim that Obama’s discussion was “private” and not intended to be shared with anyone else outside the small gathering in attendance didn’t hold up to scrutiny given the fact that BET itself posted clips from the discussion on its site.

Furthermore, Jarrett also posted those clips on social media and told everyone to “tune in” to the network so they could hear what Obama had to say.

Shortly thereafter, the dispute descended into a sharp back-and-forth on social media between Givhan and others who were irked at what she had done, as can be seen on Givhan’s Twitter feed.

Several of her critics asserted that the conversation had been “off-the-record” — an assertion Givhan flatly denied — and one user claimed the reporter had “violated a sacred trust” between black women.

Another said what she had done was a “complete violation of journalistic ethics and Black girl code, all at once,” while still another asserted through a hashtag that Givhan was “#notoneofus,” as if she were being banished from the exclusive realm of accepted professional black women.

For their part, a BET representative told Page Six that Givhan had been “invited as a guest (not working press) to moderate a fashion panel,” and noted that her travel and lodging expenses had been paid for by the network.

“She was made aware that it was an intimate conversation in a sacred space of sisterhood and fellowship,” the rep added.

Neither Givhan nor representatives for Obama responded to requests for comment on the report from Page Six.

If the WaPo reporter really was instructed ahead of time that the conversation between Obama and Jarrett was “off the record” and a private affair, but published anyway, then BET was justified in booting her from the remainder of the conference — though the mean-spirited commentary she received on social media still crossed the line.

But if Givhan received no prior warning on the matter — and given the fact that BET itself published the conversation later — then this is just a major display of hypocrisy and unnecessary infighting.

What do you think?
