{ americanthinker.com } ~ The current situation in Washington is, in the language of poker, a bluff... The Democrats are bluffing; they have only weak cards in their hand. They actually have nothing against Trump. That's all they have ever had. As it is known, impeachment is simply a vote of no confidence. A vote of no confidence exists in many countries where there is a political separation of powers. In some countries, for example, the president has the right to dissolve parliament and call new parliamentary elections, and as a political counterbalance, the parliament can declare a vote of no confidence against the president. In America, the president cannot dissolve Congress under any circumstances, but the price for such protection of the Congress is high: as a counterweight, both chambers — the Senate and the House of Representatives — must speak out against the president in case of impeachment. This process of a vote of no confidence in the House of Representatives is called impeachment, and in the Senate, a trial. What awaits the president after impeachment? The answer is...nothing. Impeachment is a purely political maneuver, and the president remains to fulfill his duties until the end of his term, knowing that the House is unhappy with him. The last well known example is President scumbag/liar-Bill Clinton, who was impeached in 1998 but acquitted by the Senate. And so what? Nothing — he continued to work. The fact is that the second part of the vote of no confidence takes place in the Senate. Here in the Senate, according to the US Constitution, a trial of the president occurs. The trial takes place in a manner close to a real court proceeding — with lawyers, prosecutors, judges, prosecution witnesses, and defense witnesses. Contrary to the House decision, the Senate's trial considers whether or not there was a violation of the law by the president. If a violation of the law has occurred, then the president could lose his post. The current hysteria of the Democrats regarding impeachment is unusual. Firstly, it is based on rumors. That is why, secondly, the Democrats still have not decided which law Trump has violated. Thirdly, there was no vote in the House of Representatives to initiate the impeachment procedure more precisely, the House of Representatives, in which the majority belongs to the Democrats, in a 332-95 decision, chose not to bother with impeachment...

Tom Cotton, R-Ark., unloaded on the inspector general at the center of the anti-Trump whistleblower kerfuffle, calling him “insolent” and “obstructive” in a scathing letter released on Wednesday afternoon... Michael Atkinson, the Intelligence Community Inspector General, or ICIG, is under fire for secretly eliminating a requirement that whistleblowers provide first-hand information to support allegations of wrongdoing. The ICIG admitted that it secretly changed its rules and forms in response to an error-ridden complaint filed against President Donald Trump that consisted entirely of gossip, rumor, and second-hand information.“Your disappointing testimony to the Senate Intelligence Committee on September 26 was evasive to the point of being insolent and obstructive,” Cotton, a Republican member of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence (SSCI), wrote on Wednesday. Cotton said Atkinson refused to disclose to SSCI members why Atkinson initially determined the anti-Trump complainant had a partisan political bias against Trump. “Despite repeated questions, you refused to explain what you meant in your written report by ‘indicia of an arguable political bias on the part of a rival political candidate,'” Cotton wrote. “This information is, of course, unclassified and we were meeting in a closed setting. Yet you moralized about how you were duty bound not to share even a hint of this political bias with us.” “But now I see media reports that you revealed to the House Intelligence Committee not only that the complainant is a registered Democrat, but also that he has a professional relationship with a Democratic presidential campaign,” Cotton continued. “I’m dissatisfied, to put it mildly, with your refusal to answer my questions, while more fully briefing the three-ring circus that the House Intelligence Committee has become.”...

Indeed, Trump did what a president should have done. That conclusion comes from former federal prosecutor Bob Barr, who, as a congressman, ran the effort to impeach scumbag/liar-Bill Clinton. Writing for The Daily Caller, Barr concluded that Trump was duty-bound to ask Zelensky for the probe. Message for the Democrats and NeverTrump nuts in the Republican Party: Trump did nothing wrong. The Trump-Zelensky call of July 25 became the object of the latest impeachment hysteria after the hearsay account of an anonymous CIA whistleblower surfaced. Written after the whistleblower consulted with the staff of House Intelligence Committee Chairman scumbag-Adam Schiff, which itself points to suspected wrongdoing, the account claimed that Trump sought “foreign interference” in the 2020 election...

Speaking to Fox talker Sean Hannity, The Hill’s John Solomon revealed that Ukraine reopened its probe of the loose lips liar-Biden-Burisma influence-peddling scandal long before President Trump’s call on July 25 with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, during which Trump asked Zelensky to do just that. Even better, or worse as the case might be, the ballyhooed whistleblower, whose hearsay account of that call ignited the latest impeachment frenzy, worked for one of the 2020 Democrat presidential candidates. So even as the impeachment probe inadvertently threatens to fully expose loose lips liar-Biden-Burisma and the scumbag/liar-Clinton-Ukraine collusion during the 2016 election, the narrative that Trump committed an impeachable offense is falling apart. Solomon told Hannity that U.S. officials knew Ukraine would re-open the probe into loose lips liar-Biden-Burisma long before Trump’s entirely appropriate phone call. “The U.S. government had open-source intelligence and was aware as early as February of 2019 that the Ukrainian government was planning to reopen the Burisma investigation,” Solomon said. “This is long before the president ever imagined having a call with President Zelensky.”...

Turkey Flooding Europe with Migrants

More than 40,000 migrants arrived in Greece during the first nine months of 2019... and more than half of those arrived during just the past three months, according to new data compiled by the International Organization for Migration (IOM). The surge in migrant arrivals to Greece during the third quarter of 2019 — 5,903 arrivals in July; 9,341 in August; and 10,294 in September — has coincided with repeated threats by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and other members of his government to flood Europe with Muslim migrants. Although the number of migrant arrivals to Greece is still far below the number of arrivals at the height of the migration crisis in 2015, when more than a million migrants from Africa, Asia and the Middle East poured into Europe, the recent surge in newcomers suggests that Erdoğan's threats to resume mass migration are becoming a reality. In March 2016, European officials negotiated the EU-Turkey Migrant Deal, in which the EU offered Turkey a series of economic and political incentives in exchange for a pledge by Ankara to halt the flow of migrants from Turkey to Greece. European officials, negotiating in great haste, promised Turkey more than they were able to deliver — in particular a controversial pledge to grant visa-free travel to the European Union for all of Turkey's 80 million citizens. Since the agreement's entry into force, Turkey and the EU have accused each other of failing to honor key parts of the deal, and Erdoğan has repeatedly threatened to allow potentially millions more migrants to pour into Greece. In practice, the EU-Turkey deal substantially reduced the flow of migrants from Turkey to Greece. As a result, migration routes shifted westward from Greece to Italy, which in 2016 replaced Greece as the main point of entry for migrants seeking to reach Europe...

George Will and American power

{ fdd.org } ~ For more than 40 years, George Will has been producing erudite political commentary. Most often, I find myself agreeing with the arguments presented in his twice-weekly columns for The Washington Post... When I don’t, I have to wrack my brains to figure out why, and how I might frame a cogent dissent. He’s recently published “The Conservative Sensibility” — no subtitle — a 538-page reflection on Western political philosophy and tradition, and the specifically American vision of the Founders. “A sensibility,” he writes, “is more than an attitude but less than an agenda.” The American conservative sensibility, he adds, includes “an unsentimental, almost bleak realism,” while applying “general principles to untidy realities.” American conservatives in the current era, he argues, have no higher obligation than to defend the “classical liberal tradition” upon which the United States was founded. For more than a century, that tradition has been under attack by progressivism which “began as a forthright rejection of the Founders’ philosophy.” Today’s progressives seek nothing less than “the overthrow of the Founders’ classical liberalism.” Of the 10 chapters in this volume, all worth reading, only one grapples with foreign policy. But that single chapter is packed with ideas, a few of which I’ll attempt to unpack here. Mr. Will, who received a Ph.D. is from Princeton decades before America’s elite universities were debased by political correctness, begins by suggesting that in “foreign policy, as elsewhere, one of conservatism’s functions is to say things that people do not want to hear, such as this: War, which has always been part of the human story, always will be.” More than that: “History is, to a significant extent, a story of hostilities between groups — tribes, clans, cities, nations.”

Dems Expand Ukraine Charade With Second 'Whistleblower'Thomas Gallatin: As the Ukraine charade enters its third week, a second “whistleblower” has come forward according to Mark Zaid, attorney for the first “whistleblower.” This second whistleblower, also an intelligence official, claims to have first-hand information corroborating some of the initial complaint. It is likely, since this new whistleblower is not offering a new complaint but is rather supporting the original complaint, that this second individual is seeking protection to prevent himself from being exposed as a source for the first whistleblower. Indeed, Zaid seemingly confirmed this, stating that the second individual “made a protection disclosure under the law and cannot be retaliated against.” Furthermore, Zaid claimed that “there are definitely multiple whistleblowers,” so it’s looking like everyone behind this complaint is seeking cover.
However, there may be another reason why more “whistleblowers” are now suddenly coming forward, claiming to have first-hand knowledge that allegedly corroborates the original complaint. The Democrats need the whistleblower complaint to be shored up by first-hand testimony.
Last Friday, Intelligence Community Inspector General (ICIG) Michael Atkinson testified before the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, but he continued to stonewall lawmakers’ efforts to get answers for why the whistleblower form was secretly changed to eliminate a first-hand knowledge requirement — a change apparently made in September following the whistleblower’s complaint. As The Federalist reports, “Despite having a full week to come up with explanations for his office’s decisions to secretly change its forms to eliminate the requirement for first-hand evidence and to backdate those changes to August, Atkinson refused to provide any explanation to lawmakers baffled by his behavior.”
Atkinson’s refusal to answer only serves to bolster suspicions that Democrats, led by Rep. scumbag-Adam Schiff, are behind this whole whistleblower fiasco. scumbag-Schiff has been exposed as a liar by none other than The Washington Post over his claim that he had no advanced knowledge of the whistleblowers complaint, when in fact he at the very least knew about the complaint before it was even submitted to the ICIG. Furthermore, as Atkinson confirmed the whistleblower was a politically motivated Democrat.
Finally, as this Democrat-orchestrated scandal further unfolds, several text messages between Trump administration officials have been selectively released to the media in an effort to prop up the anti-Trump narrative about a quid pro quo. Never mind the fact that the former American envoy to Ukraine, Kurt Volker, gave testimony regarding the texts before the House last Thursday and repudiated the Democrats’ impeachment narrative. As Jim Jordan, ranking Republican on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, stated: “Not one thing [Volker] said comports with any of the Democrats’ impeachment narrative. Not one thing.” Rep. Dan Crenshaw also observed, “One key fact about [Thursday’s] closed-door witness interview [with Volker] — Republicans are the ones calling for public release of the deposition transcript. That should tell you something. Democrats prefer narratives, not facts.” ~The Patriot Post
