freebeacon.com } ~ In announcing another round of sanctions on Iran this week, the Trump administration took unprecedented steps to roll back a series of cash windfalls... authorized by the scumbag/liar-nObama administration that have lined the extremist regime's pockets and enabled it to make strides in its ballistic missile technology, according to policy experts. President Donald Trump, on the anniversary this week of leaving the landmark nuclear deal, issued another salvo of sanctions that target Iran's lucrative iron, steel, aluminum, and copper sectors. Each of these arenas has helped Iran's hardline regime stockpile billions in cash as the country's economy teeters on the brink. The sanctions represent "the first significant expansion of sectoral sanctions since 2013," according to veteran foreign policy analysts at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, or FDD, a think-tank that enjoys close ties with the Trump administration. The sanctions will pressure Iran's Revolutionary Guards Corps, or IRGC, the regime's paramilitary fighting force that also controls significant portions of the country's economy, mainly those like the precious metals sector that can be used for military purposes. The Trump administration shows no signs of slowing down with its sanctions, angering the Islamic Republic and fueling a range of hostile military moves that have put U.S. military assets in the region on high alert. "This new designation significantly increases pressure on Iran's economy by targeting industries from which Iran derives significant income," according to FDD, which examined how the new sanctions could impact Iran's multi-billion dollar energy sector. "It also enhances the administration's targeting of materials necessary to support Iran's nuclear and ballistic missile programs, and provides for the first significant expansion of sectoral sanctions since 2013."...

Allow Venezuela to Fail

americanthinker.com } ~ Are we stepping on the same rakes again -- in Venezuela? Secretary of State Mike Pompeo recently tweeted “My message to the Venezuelan people is clear... the United States stands firmly with you in your quest for freedom and democracy.” He also confirmed that the military option is on the table. In other words, the U.S. is ready to liberate the Venezuelan people from themselves. For those who suffer historical amnesia, it is worth pointing out, that the Venezuelans had democratic elections and they have chosen socialism. Hugo Chavez was a socialist, and he ran on a socialist platform and got elected with wide popular support. So was his successor Nicolás Maduro. Whether the Venezuelans voted for socialist serfdom knowingly or they have been duped is irrelevant. If people are ignorant or complacent, they deserve the government they elect. As Barack scumbag/liar-nObama famously said, “Elections have consequences.” We have to be mindful, though, that every ism -- socialism, capitalism, fascism, etc. -- has its supporters and benefactors. Those who imagine themselves on the receiving end have every reason to think they will be better off with socialism. State bureaucracy, army, and police support the government that provides them with the benefits they would not have otherwise. The imposition of sanctions does not impact this segment of the population, but is making a gap between them and the rest of the people much wider. Any attempts to replace the regime by staged demonstrations and riots would likely fail. The existing political forces, embedded in the military and police are stronger and better organized than the opposition. If an order cannot be negotiated it will be imposed by force...   https://www.americanthinker.com/articles/2019/05/allow_venezuela_to_fail.html

Former FBI General Counsel James Baker Tries
To Gaslight Us On The Russia Hoax
And It Doesn’t Work

by redstate.com:  Former FBI counsel James Baker crawled out from under the warm, damp and odoriferous place he’s been keeping himself to try to rehabilitate... his shredded integrity with the aid of another swamp creature. The venue was the Qatar-funded (Qatar is the major international sponsor of the Muslim Brotherhood, if you’re keeping score) and the event was the LawFareBlog’s podcast. The host was Benjamin Wittes, who is a something-or-another at Brookings and runs LawFareBlog, both and either of which come within a few millimeters of making him an unregistered agent for Qatar. While his status as Qatar’s representative may be open to interpretation, his status as one of the most egregious peddlers of scurrlious trash about the dirty cop-Muller investigation and the Trump administration’s non-relationship with Russia, always prefacing the non-stories he was pushing with “BOOM!” The information from a foreign partner about Trump adviser George Papadopoulos “is what triggered us going down this path” of investigating in 2016, Jim Baker said. “It would have been a dereliction if our duty not to investigate this information.” We know this story is patent bullsh**. We know the FBI had possession of an early version of the Steele dossier by July 5, 2016. We further know from the dirty cop-Mueller report that Papadopoulos didn’t mention emails. If one comment, two months after the fact, delivered second hand was sufficient to set off an FBI investigation, the whole agency needs to be disbanded and we need to start from scratch. What makes this more damning is that it now is pretty obvious that Papadopoulos’s source, Joseph Mifsud, is almost certainly as Western, by that I mean British, intelligence asset.  Jim Baker said the investigation was about Russia. “To the extent that any Americans cross our radar screen, we will investigate that.”...   https://www.redstate.com/streiff/2019/05/10/former-fbi-general-counsel-james-baker-tries-gaslight-us-russia-hoax-doesnt-work/?utm_source=rsmorningbriefing&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=nl&bcid=7220442bc3498cb5e2d68f3cb4d11680

'Pinkwashing' and Israel: How to
Work against Your Own Best Interests

gatestoneinstitute.org } ~ Early in April, the British gay newspaper Pink News ran a headline: "LGBT performers to boycott Eurovision in Israel with online broadcast"... The broadcast, known as Globalvision, will be part of the international Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement, which tries hard to delegitimize Israel economically and politically. Referring to a letter which activists had written to the pop star Madonna, Pink News reported: "We feel we must write to you to express our deep concern at the political use of the Eurovision that is being made by Israel this year, and to highlight in particular the issue of 'Pinkwashing,'" the letter said. The letter said that 'pinkwashing' is a "PR tactic used by Israel which cynically exploits support for LGBTQIA people to whitewash its oppression of the Palestinian people." The open letter argues that Israel is attempting to ingratiate itself with LGBT+ people in an attempt to distract from its "colonial and apartheid reality." Before commenting on the situation of Israel, it might help to turn our attention to the conditions of LGBT people in countries that are sworn enemies of Israel, but which no-one swears to boycott, divest from, or sanction. It is hard to know where to start when it comes to the mistreatment of LGBTQ people, especially male homosexuals, across the Muslim world. It is a scandal that has been little exposed in the mainstream media, although even there it has begun to attract unfavorable comment...   https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/14194/israel-pinkwashing

Should the U.S. be the Policeman of the World?
by Raoul Lowery Contreras

americanthinker.com } ~ Ever since the first shots were fired in Massachusetts Colony in 1775 by American patriots demanding independence from England, there have been two American sides to the universal quest for freedom with undecideds in between...
This time the focus is on oil-rich Venezuela. One side of America is passive, its view limited to the border, the other active and global. Passive view: defend the United States at the Rio Grande not Baghdad. Active view: fight in Europe, Guadalcanal, Korea, Baghdad or Kabul; not in New York or Los Angeles.  Venezuela, with the world’s largest oil reserves, by the way, first experienced American military intervention on October 7, 1892, when United States Marines landed to protect the U.S. Consulate. Venezuelan requests for American help during that era kept the U.S. directly involved in Venezuelan affairs for a decade, albeit, diplomatically helping Venezuela ward off English expansion on Venezuela’s border with British Guyana. U.S. Marines have landed numerous times in practically every Caribbean country during revolutions that have plagued the hemisphere since the Spanish were expelled after almost 300 years of rule from far-away Madrid. The last two, the Dominican Republic in April, 1965, and Panama in 1989. Like the pioneering freedom fighters of 1810 Mexico that revolted against Spain, native-born Simon Bolivar led Colombia and Venezuela to independence from Spain. What Bolivar could not do is reap an immediate political harvest of local home political rule experience like freed American colonies. This lack of experience is not unique to Spanish Hemispheric history...

Political Editors:  Just how bad is the immigration crisis at the U.S. southern border? Well, here’s an instance where percentages can help people gain a greater overall perspective of the immensity of the problem. According to active Homeland Security Department Secretary Kevin McAleenan, since September of last year over 1% of the entire populations of both Guatemala and Honduras have crossed into the U.S. McAleenan stated, “The current migration flows, especially of vulnerable families and children, from Central America through Mexico, to remote areas all along the U.S. border, represent both a security and humanitarian crisis. The situation is not sustainable.”

As we recently noted, you know it’s gotten bad when even The New York Times admits there’s a crisis.

McAleenan noted, “In March, we had over 103,000 irregular arrivals of undocumented migrants — 90% crossing the U.S. border unlawfully and unsafely in the hands of human smugglers. We will see similar numbers in April.” And the reality is the situation is not getting better. McAleenan further explained, “These trends are deepening and accelerating. According to a recent USAID funded study conducted by Vanderbilt University’s Latin American Public Opinion Project in Guatemala earlier this year, 1 in 4 Guatemalans have an intention to migrate from Guatemala, with 85% of them expressing the United States as their preferred destination.”

“That’s over four million Guatemalans who intend to migrate to the United States,” McAleenan observed. “Imagine if almost the entire population of the Western United States left the country. What kind of impact would that have on the economy, culture, and identity? What does that mean for future generations?”

Meanwhile, Democrats are engrossed in a fight with the White House over the conclusions of dirty cop-Robert Mueller’s special investigation. These Democrats can’t see past their own anti-Trump hatred to recognize that the country is in the midst of a massive crisis that needs all hands on deck.  ~The Patriot Post
