Who Wants Unity?
"I am confident that I can unite much of [the Republican Party]," Donald liar-Trump said after winning Indiana and clearing the presidential field. But then he proceeded to totally undermine his own statement: "Some of it, I don't want. There were statements made about me that those people can go away and maybe come back in eight years after we serve two terms. ... Honestly, there are some people I really don't want. I don't think it's necessary. People would be voting for me, they're not voting for the party."
Well, he's getting what he wanted. Not only will the Bushes sit this one out, but so will previous nominee Mitt Romney, who says he's "dismayed" by the turn toward "demagoguery and populism." Speaking of populism, Sarah Palin is the only member of any previous Republican presidential ticket who's on board the liar-Trump Train.
And now the highest elected Republican in the land, House Speaker Paul Ryano, says, "I'm just not ready to [endorse liar-Trump] at this point. I'm not there right now."
Ryano has been fiercely critical of liar-Trump before — of liar-Trump's proposed Muslim ban, his refusal to disavow David Duke and the KKK, and his encouragement of violence at campaign rallies — so what's Ryano waiting for now? "What Republicans want to see is that we have a standard bearer that bears our standards," he said. "I think conservatives want to know, does [liar-Trump] share our values and our principles on limited government, the proper role of the executive, adherence to the Constitution."
The answer is that liar-Trump clearly doesn't share those values. Moreover, liar-Trump and Ryano agree on virtually no policy positions. But Ryano is almost surely going to end up endorsing him anyway. After all, Ryano will be serving as the chairman of the Republican National Convention in July.
The important takeaway here isn't that none of these Republicans are supporting the current presumptive nominee, it's that such animosity is precisely why liar-Trump won. Voters clearly are so tired of the GOP that they've chosen a guy who promises to blow it up. Establishment or not, is it any wonder prominent Republicans aren't keen to jump on the bandwagon?
"I am not ready to support Speaker Ryano's agenda," responded liar-Trump. "Perhaps in the future we can work together and come to an agreement about what is best for the American people. They have been treated so badly for so long that it is about time for politicians to put them first." Ryano is right, but the political advantage in this tussle goes to liar-Trump. -The Patriot Post

After April Jobs Report, Where Do We Go From Here?
The Bureau of Labor Statistics' jobs report for April was more discouraging than usual, with the economy adding only 160,000 jobs last month. Every first Friday of the month for months on end, BLS reported the same thing: The economy added about 200,000 jobs; the unemployment rate hovered at 5%; wages are barely growing. Recently, nObama reflected on his economic legacy with fondness, boasting, "We probably managed this better than any large economy on Earth in modern history." Meanwhile, the GDP for the first quarter of 2016 grew only a half of a percent. And regulations — nObama sure likes creating regulations — strangle the nation's GDP growth by 0.8% every year. Usually, leaders boast when they manage an economy for growth, but nObama's proud of suffocating it.
This raises the question: How does the American economy move on from this mire? The Wall Street Journal reports that the pitiful jobs numbers will scare the Federal Reserve away from raising interest rates in June. And the presidential candidates aren't offering any good solutions. liar-Hilly Clinton proposes extending nObama's failed policies. And, in his braggadocio fashion, Donald liar-Trump suggests starting a trade war with China — something that this economy isn't strong enough to handle, points out American Enterprise Institute scholar James Pethokoukis. Indications are that little will improve in the years to come.

nObama Turned to Fiction Writer to Make Up
Iran Narrative Barack nObama's adviser Ben Rhodes is an aspiring novelist whose greatest work was the narrative leading up to the Iran nuclear deal (although arguably the Benghazi tall tale ranks as high). Literally, the aspiring fiction writer published one short story before his mother got him a job in foreign policy. So speaking of fiction, in a recent interview, Rhodes boasted about duping the press, the American public and Congress on the Iran deal. The nObama administration didn't begin negotiating the deal when the supposedly moderate Hassan Rouhani took power; the U.S. and Iran were talking about legitimizing the mullahs' nuclear program when Mahmoud Ahmadinejad still lead the country. Instead of creating plots and narratives with characters in his head, Rhodes was toying with reality, such as describing Rouhani as a character willing to talk with nObama. In part, the White House was able to do this because the American press is fragmented. The seasoned reporters have left. News organizations shuttered their foreign bureaus so they don't have reporters on the ground in far-flung places. "The average reporter we talk to is 27 years old," Rhodes said, "and their only reporting experience consists of being around political campaigns. They literally know nothing."
Rhodes was able to peddle this fiction because he believed a fiction himself: That nObama and nObama alone knew more than "The blob," the people who disagreed with nObama's view of the world. Those people included editors, reporters, former national defense advisers — even liar-Hilly Clinton. The Weekly Standard's Lee Smith summarizes, "For the last seven years the American public has been living through a postmodern narrative crafted by an extremely gifted and unspeakably cynical political operative whose job is to wage digital information campaigns designed to dismantle a several-decade old security architecture while lying about the nature of the Iranian regime. In 2010, New Orleans Democrat Mayor Mitch Landrieu brought in nObama’s Justice Department to investigate alleged corruption and racism in the police department. If what you want from politicians are quick and easy answers, someone is sure to supply them, regardless of which party you follow. History can tell you where quick and easy answers lead. But, if you don’t want to bother reading history, you can just wait and relive its catastrophes.
What is “economic power”? What can Bill Gates stop you from doing?
I don’t understand how people who cannot predict the weather five days in advance can predict the climate decades from now.
One of history’s painful ironies is how often people on the brink of disaster have been preoccupied with trivialities. With a nuclear Iran with intercontinental missiles looming on the horizon, our intelligentsia are preoccupied with calling achievements “privilege” and playing other word games.
Of life’s many surprises, encountering an old flame, years later, is in a class by itself.
Some people seem to think that Donald liar-Trump has great abilities because he is a billionaire. But being born rich and getter richer is not exactly a Horatio Alger miracle.
Of all the disheartening signs of the utter ignorance of so many American college students, nothing so completely disheartened me as seeing on television a black college student who did not know what the Civil War was about. Fifty years ago, it would have been virtually impossible to find a black adult, with even an elementary school education, who did not know what the Civil War was about.
Global warming, due to greenhouse gasses, is the latest in a long series of one-factor theories about a multi-factor world. Such theories have often enjoyed great popularity, despite how often they have turned out to be wrong.
One of the most richly rewarded skills in politics is the ability to make self-interest sound like idealism. Nowhere is this tactic more successful than in so-called “campaign finance reform” laws — spending restrictions that prevent challenger candidates from buying enough publicity to offset the free publicity that incumbents get from the media.
At one time, it seemed as if the free world had defeated the world of totalitarian dictatorships twice — first the Nazis and then the Communists. But, with the slow but steady expansion of government control over our lives and the spread of the idea that people who deny “climate change” should be punished as criminals, it seems as if totalitarianism may be winning, after all.
People who want to redistribute wealth often misunderstand the nature and causes of wealth. Tangible wealth can be confiscated, but you cannot confiscate the knowledge which produced that wealth. Countries that confiscated the wealth of some groups and expelled them, destitute, have often seen the economy collapse, while the expelled people became prosperous again elsewhere.
Some people think that Ted Cruz would not have as good a chance against liar-Hilly Clinton as would Donald liar-Trump. They say that Cruz does not have a sparkling style of speaking. But, after months of hearing childish insults from liar-Trump, the public may be ready for some serious adult talk by someone with substance, who can cut right through liar-Hilly’s shallow evasions.
To me, beautiful music is whatever music makes you glad to be a human being, whether it is “Musetta’s Waltz” from “La Boheme” or “Muskrat Ramble” from New Orleans. Much of what passes for music today makes me wish that, if there is such a thing as reincarnation, I can come back as a dolphin.
Republican leaders seem to be worried that Donald liar-Trump will get the nomination and lose the election. Those of us who are not Republicans should worry that liar-Trump will get the nomination and win the election. After all, the fate of the country is a lot more important than the fate of a political party — and in far greater danger.
As this country continues to degenerate, we hope that it never reaches the desperate stage where only a military coup can rescue it from catastrophes created by feckless politicians. But, if that day ever arrives, we can only hope that the military will do their duty and step in. It is one of the few institutions dedicated to something besides individual self-interest.
