Required by law to release plans for new regulations twice a year, the administration has consistently done so just before major holidays, when few are paying attention... Thus, it was no surprise to see his fall 2015 regulatory agenda released last Friday, as many Americans focused on Thanksgiving week with family and friends. A look at the agenda shows why the White House didn’t want it publicized. Over 2,000 regulations are now being written. Of these, 144 are deemed “economically significant”—that is, expected to cost Americans $100 million or more each..

{Hans von Spakovsky} ~ On Friday, the U.S. Justice Department filed a 35-page petition asking the U.S. Supreme Court to review Texas v. U.S., the case filed by 26 states against President nObama’s immigration amnesty plan... The government is appealing a preliminary injunction that stopped implementation of nObama’s amnesty plan, which was issued by a federal district court and upheld by the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals on Nov. 9. In an odd coincidence, Donald Verrilli, the solicitor general, filed the petition on the one-year anniversary of nObama’s speech to the nation on Nov. 20, 2014, where he announced his unprecedented, unilateral action to violate federal immigration law and provide lawful status and work permits to as many as five million illegal aliens..

Most of us leave these petty squabbles behind when we trade high school for adulthood, but we remember the lessons well. When an individual is saying one thing to your face and something else when you aren’t around, that individual is not to be trusted. You can’t always map human behavior one-to-one with the machinations of nation states, but it makes for an interesting way to view the nuclear deal between Iran and the United States. After lengthy negotiations in which the U.S. apparently gave in to Iranian demands again and again, the Islamic Republic’s Supreme Leader has shown no interest in pursuing a real diplomatic relationship with the West. Unlike that slimy character you might have known in high school, though, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei isn’t bothering to hide his true feelings about the United States. In an unverified tweet, Iran’s spiritual commander said, “US president has said he could knock out Iran’s military. DHS: Inept $1 Billion Bioterror System Is All We Have
{judicialwatch.org} ~ After squandering a billion dollars—87 million in the last year alone—on a useless system to detect biological attacks, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) insists on wasting more money on the flawed program because the government has no back up plan to deal with bioterrorism... It’s only taken 12 years and an enormous waste of public funds to figure out that the faulty system, known as BioWatch, can’t get the job done. Nevertheless, DHS apparently believes that it may eventually work properly if taxpayers keep throwing cash at it. One senior DHS official, Jim H. British Prime Minister highlights Islamic State’s threat to UK, West
{THOMAS JOSCELYN} ~ Britain’s police and security services have “disrupted no fewer than 7 terrorist plots to attack the UK” in the past 12 months, all of which “were either linked to” the Islamic State or “inspired” by the group’s propaganda, according to British Prime Minister David Cameron... The threat of such attacks has grown in recent months because the Islamic State “has a dedicated external operations structure in Syria, which is planning mass casualty attacks around the world.” Cameron’s claims were included in 24 pages of written text recently submitted to the UK parliament as part of his effort to justify the extension of British military operations from Iraq into Syria. The submission includes a 10 page memorandum from Cameron, as well as 14 pages of answers to questions posed by the UK parliament’s foreign affairs select committee. Goldman Sachs is once again raising the possibility of oil dipping into the $20s per barrel... That spells more pain for the energy sector. Many companies have already slashed spending and culled their payrolls, but the total number of job losses continues to climb. According to Graves & Co., an industry consultant, oil and gas companies have laid off more than 250,000 workers around the world, a tally that will rise if oil prices remain in the dumps.

{JULIA PRESTON} ~ The numbers of migrants crossing the Rio Grande illegally have risen sharply in recent weeks, replaying scenes from the influx of Central American children and families in South Texas last year... Once again, smugglers are bringing hundreds of women and children each day to the Mexican banks of the river and sending them across in rafts. In a season when illegal crossings normally go down, “The numbers have started going the other way,” said Raul L. Ortiz, acting chief of the Border Patrol for the Rio Grande Valley. Since Oct. 1, official figures show, Border Patrol apprehensions of migrant families in this region have increased 150 percent over the same period last year, while the number of unaccompanied children caught by agents has more than doubled. The new flows here are smaller than the surge in the summer of 2014 but come after a year of declines in illegal crossings across the southwest border. The increases come as Americans’ concerns about border security are heightened after the Nov. 13 attacks in Paris raised fears that terrorists would try to sneak into the United States. And they are complicating the nObama administration’s efforts to reassure the country that the border is under control. Ya, right..
