San Fran Rewards Illegals; GOP Protects Americans
On Thursday, House Republicans along with 24 Democrats passed what has been popularly referred to as Kate's Law, in memory of Kate Steinle, the young woman who was murdered in San Francisco by a five-time deported illegal alien with a criminal record. The law increases penalties on illegal aliens who illegally re-enter the country, including mandatory prison sentences.

$190,000 legal settlement to an illegal alien. The illegal's lawyer successfully argued that based on San Francisco's official sanctuary city policy, the police violated the man's rights by alerting Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to his whereabouts. Documentation showed that the man had served two days in jail for a DUI in 2012 and had received a deportation order back in 2005.
Back in DC, House Speaker Paul Ryan touted the importance of passing Kate's Law. He highlighted the obvious hypocrisy of Left and their twisted notion of justice, stating, "San Francisco is a so-called sanctuary city. But this sanctuary city was not a sanctuary at all — not for Kate it wasn't."
Also on Thursday the House passed a bill that denies federal funds to any municipality that enacts sanctuary city policies. The bill also includes a provision that requires ICE to take custody of any illegal alien who commits a crime resulting in the death or serious injury of a victim.
Hours before the House voted on these two bills, Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly spoke to members of Congress and expressed his frustration with certain unnamed lawmakers. Kelly said that he was "offended" at certain members who had "often threatened me and my officers" for simply doing their jobs enforcing the laws of the land. He bluntly asserted that these lawmakers needed to "shut up" instead of criticizing him had his staff for enforcing laws that lawmakers themselves had written.
Finally, in a creative twist, Sen. Luther Strange (R-AL) proposed tackling the problem of funding the border wall by transferring federal funds from sanctuary cities to the border wall budget. This way, sanctuary cities can still contribute to controlling the problem of illegal immigration. Sounds like a winning proposition. ~The Patriot Post

Not only does he wear his establishment credentials on his sleeve, but he’s got new caliphate enabling ones he’s displaying with equal prominence. Rubio has successfully slipped a Sharia enabling, Muslim privilege and empowering act through the Senate; it passed on April 4th of this year and is now in the House. As hard as it is to believe, some legislation, particularly that which is un-American, pro-Marxist, global takeover enabling does make it through. This one was disguised as more “equal rights for minorities,” the kind of stuff that if the politically correct cowards in government vote against it, they are forced to defend their actions. Most of the swamp creatures immediately knuckle under when faced with a fight. Right or wrong is rarely a serious consideration. Pleads Guilty in Federal Corruption Trial

Philly.com reports that his “personal financial struggles, staffing decisions in his office and gifts he received and failed to report from wealthy benefactors.” Federal prosecutors accused Williams of “repeatedly misusing campaign cash and government property to live well beyond his means and selling the influence of his office to two wealthy benefactors who showered him with gifts including trips abroad, a $3,000 custom-built sofa and a used Jaguar convertible.” All in all, he had 29 corruption-related counts. At first, he denied any wrongdoing. Then, he disparaged the FBI and the IRS. Finally, he pled guilty to accepting a bribe from a Philly-area businessman. Not even the two presidents of the country who in the last 25 years underwent dismissal proceedings, Fernando Collor de Melo in 1992 and Dilma Rousseff in 2016, had gone through an equal situation. The Attorney General of the Republic, Rodrigo Janot, has formally filed the complaint against the president, which will force the nation’s Congress to vote for Temer’s dismissal from office for six months. 190K Damages For Being Turned Over To ICE

An illegal alien squatting in the free squat zone of San Francisco has just been awarded $190,000 because he was arrested on an outstanding warrant. The San Francisco Examiner reported that Pedro Figueroa-Zarceno, 33, had sued the city on January 17th “for violating its sanctuary city ‘laws’ when officers at Southern Station allegedly cooperated with immigration officials.” Figueroa-Zarceno is an illegal border crasher from El Salvador who had gone to the police station to report his car being stolen. Officers detained Figueroa-Zarceno after they ran his name and found an outstanding warrant for his arrest. They were unable to determine any details of the warrant, so they released Figueroa-Zarceno through a side door where ICE officers had been alerted he’d be passing. He was then arrested and spent two months fighting his deportation. The Cruel Hopelessness Of “Single Payer”

{theresurgent.com} ~ In the current debate over the Affordable Care Act, we really are in the midst of a great proxy war over single payer health care... Sure, its not on the table with this Congress, and liar-nObamacare, while a bureaucratic monstrosity, isn’t single payer. But the debate surrounding GOP efforts to repeal, or at least reform the law is really a precursor to a national debate over single payer. Regardless of the fate of the GOP pseudo-repeal bill, we are at a crossroads. liar-nObamacare is collapsing. It was never intended to be permanent. It was always a compromise, a bridge to complete, government sponsored, single payer health care. We will soon have to decide if we want a market oriented health care system, or a government dominated system. Every left-wing opinion piece on health care starts with the premise that medicine shouldn’t cost anything, and anytime it does, it’s a evidence of a failed system. Senate GOP Health Bill Triggers Typical
Leftist Hysteria
By Louis DeBroux: Senate Republicans released their version of the liar-nObamaCare repeal-and-replace bill last week, and of course, before anyone had time to read it, Democrats and their Leftmedia attack dogs ran to the nearest microphone, hysterically declaring millions would lose health insurance and literally left to die because of the bill. It was all so predictable.
Democrats pointed to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) scoring of the bill, which claimed 22 million Americans would lose coverage if the Senate bill was passed. This is a ridiculous claim for two reasons.
First, "losing" is not the same thing as "choosing." While the headlines blare that 22 million will "lose coverage," the fine print of the CBO report tells a different story: "CBO and JCT estimate that, in 2018, 15 million more people would be uninsured under this legislation than under current law — primarily because the penalty for not having insurance would be eliminated."
Get that? Without the penalty from the individual mandate, millions would choose not to buy coverage. In that way liar-nObamaCare is much like membership in a labor union. Democrats shout from the rooftops how wonderful it is, but when the people are given a choice, they overwhelmingly reject it.
Second, the CBO has a long and inglorious history of being wrong. Not just a little wrong either, but more off target than a one-eyed, near-sighted drunkard trying to shoot a Coke can off a tree stump from 50-yards with a snub-nosed .38 revolver.
As The Wall Street Journal pointed out in March regarding the CBO's previous flawed liar-nObamaCare projections, "In February 2013, CBO predicted that liar-nObamaCare enrollment in the individual market would be 13 million in 2015, 24 million in 2016 and 26 million in 2017. The actual enrollment for those years was, respectively, 11 million, 12 million and 10 million. As recently as March 2016, CBO was projecting an enrollment boom of 15 million for this year." Enrollment in 2016 was just over 10 million.
Less than three years after it went into effect, the CBO's liar-nObamaCare cost projections doubled, from $900 billion to $1.8 trillion, despite the fact that premiums, deductibles and co-pays were skyrocketing. liar-nObamaCare left tens of millions of Americans without coverage, and tens of millions more with an insurance card saying they had coverage with their doctors no longer willing to take them.
Regardless, the claim that anyone in America will die without insurance is an unmitigated lie. President Ronald Reagan signed The Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA) into law in 1986, requiring hospitals to treat anyone and everyone who comes into the Emergency Room, regardless of insurance status or ability to pay.
America has the best health care system in the world. What is a disaster is how we pay for it, and it is a disaster precisely because of government meddling in the market, creating problems, and then devising "solutions" that create more problems than they solve.
The problem is rooted in Franklin D. Roosevelt's decision during World War II to institute a wage freeze. Unable to attract top talent with higher wages, businesses looked for other forms of incentives, leading many businesses to pay employees' health insurance in lieu of higher wages. By the time the war ended, this compensation tool had taken root, and never ended.
This created a market distortion, with the recipient of the service no longer paying for the service, and therefore not seeking lower prices. Compounding the problem is decades of government regulations and mandates that further distorted the market, squeezing doctors and hospitals from both ends.
On the one side, government mandated hundreds of treatments and services included in all policies, then layered on tens of thousands of pages of regulations that health care providers are required to comply with or face financial penalties and even jail time. On the other side, government became the 800-lb gorilla, accounting for half of all health care spending while steadily reducing reimbursement rates for providers, making it extremely difficult just to break even. This is a huge reason why more and more doctors decide to no longer treat Medicare or Medicaid patients.
liar-nObamaCare is a socialist, government-run health care system, and it's failing as miserably as all such systems do.
The GOP health care bills, though at least trending in the right direction, try too hard to split the baby. The key to successful health care reform is controlling costs, and this is best achieved by reintroducing free market reforms.
Insurance is about spreading and mitigating risk. It is about covering unforeseen and unlikely events. What we have today is a health payment system, not a health insurance system. Forcing health insurers to cover anything and everything means it is no longer insurance. It would be like requiring auto insurers to cover not just collisions, but oil changes, new tires, wiper blades, and basic maintenance and repairs, and expecting rates not to skyrocket.
While the GOP offering is far better than liar-nObamaCare, it can't stop there. Republicans need to push for a true free market in health care, where insurers and providers compete for our business. Only then will we see both a rapid drop in price and a rapid increase in quality of care. ~The Patriot Post
