Why scumbag/liar-nObamacare
Was Never Going to Work
{libertyplanet.com} ~ You were told that if you liked your doctor, you would be able to keep your doctor. You were told that if you liked your health insurance plan, you would be able to keep your health insurance plan... The good ole days, right? The Affordable Care Act was sold to the American people by the scumbag/liar-nObama Administration as the end-all-be-all of healthcare reforms. When it finally went into effect, the website didn’t even work, giving us a dark preview into the world of government-run medical programs. Now, with a federal judge ruling that the entire ACA was unconstitutional from the very beginning, lawmakers have a clear mandate to put together a replacement. The problem is that Americans are so spooked by the last time the government overhauled the healthcare sector, that they seem willing to defend the status quo. Most Americans felt the same way in 2009 before scumbag/liar-nObamacare was passed. Aside from the criminal mismanagement, what exactly was it that made scumbag/liar-nObamacare so ineffective? PragerU answers this question in the video below.

What Happens to Social Security,
Other Benefits During Gov’t Shutdown?
{moneyandmarkets.com} ~ With a shutdown of the federal government looming as long as a new spending bill doesn’t include funding for President Donald Trump’s border wall... many are left wondering how a shutdown will affect their benefits payments like Social Security. But not to worry as all essential services like public safety operations and Medicare payments continue on, while a shutdown also has little effect on Social Security checks. The Social Security Administration has a shutdown contingency plan that notes that most benefits programs continue on. “Funding for the programs under Titles II, XVI, and XVIII of the Social Security Act will continue, even in the event of a lapse in appropriations,” the plan says. Basically, a shutdown affects money that is appropriated annually by Congress and not funding that is sustained long-term. Social Security is paid via a combination of taxes and long-term investments...  https://moneyandmarkets.com/social-security-government-shutdown/?po...

High-profile appeals test Roberts' bid
to preserve Supreme Court 'legitimacy'
by Mark Sherman
{washingtontimes.com} ~ The Supreme Court began its term with the tumultuous confirmation of Justice Brett Kavanaugh, followed by a studied avoidance of drama on the high court bench... especially anything that would divide the five conservatives and four liberals. The justices have been unusually solicitous of each other in the courtroom since Kavanaugh’s confirmation, and several have voiced concern that the public perceives the court as merely a political institution. Chief Justice John Roberts seems determined to lead the one Washington institution that stays above the political fray. Even Roberts‘ rebuke of President Donald Trump, after the president criticized a federal judge, was in defense of an independent, apolitical judiciary. The next few weeks will test whether the calm can last. When they gather in private on Jan. 4 to consider new cases for arguments in April and into next term, the justices will confront a raft of high-profile appeals. Abortion restrictions, workplace discrimination against LGBT people and partisan gerrymandering are on the agenda. Close behind are appeals from the Trump administration seeking to have the court allow it to end an Obama-era program that shields young immigrants from deportation and to put in place restrictive rules for transgender troops. There already are signs that the conservative justices, apart from Roberts, are willing to take on controversial cases that are likely to produce the ideological and partisan divisions that their colleagues seem eager to avoid...  https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2018/dec/30/john-roberts-bid-p...

Can Trump Reform the
Welfare State WITHOUT Congress?
{libertyplanet.com} ~ Under President Donald Trump’s leadership, Americans haven’t really needed to rely on government assistance programs too much — and why would they?... Unemployment levels are at record lows across the board, particularly for racial minorities. If the president is able to keep his economic boom going — even as anti-business Democrats flood the House of Representatives — there is no reason to believe that he can’t use this momentum to finally reform the American welfare state. It was a promise made and ultimately unkept as House Speaker Paul Ryan prepares to leave his position, and politics in general. Republicans had a chance to follow up on work that hadn’t really seen progress since the 1990s, when lawmakers led by Newt Gingrich were able to force then-President scumbag/liar-Bill Clinton’s hand into making the welfare state more work-oriented. Now, President Trump has a chance to do the same with the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP. Sure enough, the mainstream media is going to frame this as mean ole Trump taking poor people’s benefits away. But the actual reforms on the table are designed specifically to lift people out of poverty — and keep them there.  https://www.libertyplanet.com/articles/can-trump-reform-the-welfare...

Trump Signs Executive Order
Freezing Pay Rate for Federal Workers
by Jack Davis
{westernjournal.com} ~ Pay for federal workers will be frozen under an executive order signed Friday afternoon by President Donald Trump... The 2.1 percent pay increase had been scheduled to take effect as of Jan. 1, 2019. Trump announced in August he would scrap the increase, The Hill reported. One casualty of the order is something known as the “locality pay increase,” which seeks to adjust pay rates depending on the region in which a federal worker is located. The order will not impact the 2.6 percent pay raise for the military that was part of a defense bill Trump signed in August. News of the freeze was ill-received by organizations that represent federal workers, especially during the partial government shutdown. “This is just pouring salt into the wound,” said Tony Reardon, president of the National Treasury Employees Union. The union represents 150,000 employees, according to USA Today. “It is shocking that federal employees are taking yet another financial hit. As if missed paychecks and working without pay were not enough, now they have been told that they don’t even deserve a modest pay increase.”...

The Birthright Rip-Off Is Another Affront
To American Citizenship

by Jan Brewer

{townhall.com} ~ Americans are being sold the fairy tale that the whole world has a constitutional right to come here, give birth, and get a free American passport. We’re told it’s “un-American” to dare say otherwise, but the growing phenomenon of “birth tourism” is the real affront to American values.

There are, at this moment, hundreds of companies offering rich foreigners all-inclusive birth vacations to beautiful American tourist destinations. Astonishingly, pregnant jetsetters from around the world step off planes, clear customs with their tourist visas, and are whisked from airports to specialty birth tourism hospitals that exist just for this purpose.

The hotel accommodations are luxurious, the post-partum cocktails expertly mixed, but the greatest allure is provided free of charge by the U.S. government: citizenship in the greatest country on Earth. For the price of a travel package, these wealthy foreigners get lifetime membership in one of the most exclusive clubs on the planet.

This subversive industry exists for one reason: to exploit our laws and literally sell American citizenship. And business is booming.

The most visible cohort has been communist China’s new ruling class, which sends tens of thousands of its expecting mothers to “maternity hotels” in California and U.S. Pacific territories like Guam. With just a quick trip in and out, their children — more than 60,000 of them every year — automatically become American citizens, with all the attendant benefits.

Lately, Russia’s upper class has been getting in on the action, too. South Florida is the birth tourism destination of choice for Vladimir Putin’s cronies, and Miami’s passport merchants are catering to their desires in style. For $50,000, Russian oligarchs can get luxury beachside accommodations and professionals to take care of all the paperwork necessary to mint their own little American citizens.

What’s particularly galling about this phenomenon is how flippantly these wealthy birth tourists treat the concept of American citizenship. Our ancestors fought and died to secure the rights we enjoy as American citizens. They endured terrible hardship to make a new life here and claim the mantle of “American citizen.” Countless millions have risked their lives just for a chance at American citizenship, yet birth tourists treat it like a simple vacation perk before returning to a life of luxury in their home countries.

”I can’t wait to get back to Russia,” one of these Muscovite citizenship-buyers toldBloomberg News. The fact that her daughter was an American seemingly meant nothing to her, even as she made sure she got that blue passport. That was “the last thing on my agenda, literally...Why does Trump think everyone is dying to have one?”

Another Russian mother of a new American was more pragmatic. “I don't know whether my daughter will end up using the passport or not, but it's good to have different options,” she explained, suggesting it might be helpful for getting into college, or maybe starting a business. These oligarch babies may never need welfare, but they will be as eligible as any American for government assistance and the many other benefits that are due any citizen of our country.

These birth tourists are a far cry from the impoverished single mothers Democrats like to talk about when they’re arguing against border security, but they benefit every bit as much from the radical open-borders lobby that holds sway in the Democrat Party.

Curiously, the same American liberals who are hysterically searching for Russians connected to the 2016 Trump Campaign and preposterously claiming that Russian social media posts are a threat to our electoral integrity are evidently unconcernedabout giving citizenship to thousands of Russians with no real connection to this country.

These liberals tell us that the 14th Amendment to the Constitution mandates birthright citizenship, and that it’s “un-American” for us to complain. Whatever you think of the approximately 300,000 “anchor babies” born to illegal aliens in the U.S. every year, the prevalence of birth tourism is indefensible as a matter of either law or morality.

As more and more legal scholars recognize, birthright citizenship is simply not what the drafters of the 14th Amendment intended. In fact, the policy actually puts the U.S. at odds with most of the world — only 30 countries, mostly in South America, recognize birthright citizenship, and Canada is the only other developed country to do so.

Luckily, President Trump is doing something about this sorry state of affairs. On the campaign trail before the midterm elections, he called out the birth tourism industry by name and revealed that he’s contemplating using either an executive order or legislative action to clarify that the 14th Amendment doesn’t require American citizenship be on sale for the price of a plane ticket.

Valuing American citizenship is not “un-American.” Neither is dispelling the fairy tale of universal birthright citizenship.

TRUMP:  Trump To Give ‘Start Your Engines’ Command At Dayton

President Donald Trump will give the command for drivers to start their engines before the Daytona 500.

Daytona International Speedway officials named Trump the grand marshal for NASCAR’s season opener, meaning he will deliver the most famous four words in auto racing. “Gentleman, start your engines,” has been a staple of races around the country and world for decades.

White House spokesman Judd Deere said Thursday the president plans to attend the race. Track president Chip Wile confirmed the news in a release.

“Daytona International Speedway has been privileged to have hosted several sitting presidents of the United States over our history,” Wile said. “We’re honored that the president of the United States has chosen to experience the pageantry and excitement of ‘The Great American Race.’”

Trump is the third sitting president to attend a race at Daytona, but only the second to attend the Daytona 500. George W. Bush attended in 2004. Trump is the first to be given an honorary role in pre-race ceremonies.

Trump is scheduled to spend part of the Presidents Day weekend at his private club in Palm Beach, Florida.

The Federal Aviation Administration issued a flight restriction for Sunday and the U.S. Secret Service, which is responsible for presidential security, also tweeted to fans that drones are prohibited within 30 miles of the race in Daytona Beach — a restriction put in place for presidential visits.

Trump has hosted previous NASCAR champions at the White House and last October awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom to motorsports titan Roger Penske. Last year, Trump also praised retired driver Mario Andretti, the Daytona 500 winner in 1967, reminiscing about a ride Andretti gave him in a race car for his reality show “The Apprentice.”

“I said, ‘Mario, get me out of here. I want to get out of this car,’” Trump recalled. “We went so fast. We literally — we covered four blocks in like a second.”
