Scalise to back McCarthy for speaker
by RACHAEL BADE
{ politico.com } ~ House Majority Whip Steve Scalise will endorse speaker hopeful Kevin McCarthy when the California Republican declares for the post... the Louisianan’s office told POLITICO. “Whip Scalise’s focus remains on moving our conservative agenda forward and maintaining our Republican majority,” said Scalise spokesman Chris Bond. “When a Speaker’s race is called, he’ll be supporting Leader McCarthy.” The declaration of support will put to rest speculation that Scalise would in any way work against his fellow leader, who failed in 2015 to garner the support needed to clinch the gavel. The whip two weeks ago expressed interest in being speaker someday, infuriating McCarthy’s camp — even though he said emphatically that he wouldn’t run against McCarthy should he seek the position...  https://www.politico.com/story/2018/04/13/scalise-mccarthy-speaker-...

California Progressives Target
Fein-stein With Full-on Assault Ahead of Dem Primar
by Haris Alic
{ freebeacon.com } ~ Progressives in California this week intensified their efforts to unseat incumbent Democratic senator Dianne Fein-stein... linking her to President Donald Trump and deriding her for not behaving "like a Democrat." A political action committee linked to Fein-stein's primary challenger on Thursday released a new 60-second ad in the Los Angeles media market castigating the incumbent. A Progressive California is responsible for the ad, titled "Act Like Democrats," which calls on Californians to support state senator Kevin de León's bid to unseat Fein-stein, who is seeking a fifth term in office. The Super PAC formed last October to back de León, who just ended his final term as leader of the state senate...  http://freebeacon.com/politics/california-progressives-target-feins...

Two Supreme Court Shortlisters Nominated to Federal Courts
by Bill McMorris
{ freebeacon.com } ~ President Donald Trump is seeking to elevate two state judges from his Supreme Court shortlist to federal courts... Trump nominated Britt Grant, a justice on the Georgia Supreme Court, and Patrick Wyrick, an associate justice on the Oklahoma Supreme Court, to the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals and western Oklahoma district court, respectively. Wyrick and Grant have been named as potential nominees to the Supreme Court by the Trump administration. The nominations pleased Carrie Severino, a conservative court watchdog at the Judicial Crisis Network and former clerk for Associate Justice Clarence Thomas. Severino said the appointments would bolster the credentials of the justices if Trump taps them to the Supreme Court. Grant is 40 and Wyrick is 37, making them particularly appealing candidates for lifetime appointments to the highest court...  http://freebeacon.com/issues/two-supreme-court-shortlisters-nominat...

Syrian Citizens Have an Extremely
Telling Response to US Missile Strikes
by CILLIAN ZEAL
{ conservativetribune.com } ~ In the wake of the allied missile strikes on chemical weapon facilities in Syria on Saturday morning... the main questions seemed to be what Russia’s response would be and whether or not the missile attacks signaled a deepening role for the United States in the complicated civil war in Syria. One question that wasn’t oft addressed, however, was how everyday Syrians responded to the strikes against the Assad regime. Fox News‘ Hollie McKay was on the ground inside Syria and collected reactions from some of the residents there. While emotions were mixed, the general mood seemed to be in favor of the strike on three Syrian chemical weapons facilities.Overall, however, one can gather that the mood on the ground is not in favor of Assad, whose murderous regime has laid waste to an entire country during seven abominable years of civil war. The fact that Russia and Iran continue to support the regime is entirely indefensible; if they wish that the people of Syria were to truly know peace, they would withdraw their support from this hideous monster at once. It’s a telling sign that Syrians are fed up with both their government and those who would prop it up...  https://conservativetribune.com/syrian-citizens-have-an-extremely-t...

UN Security Council rejects Russian condemnation of Syria strike
by Joel Gehrke
{ washingtonexaminer.com } ~ United Nations Security Council members rejected a Russian proposal to condemn the American-led attack on Syrian President Bashar Assad’s regime... voting down the resolution in an emergency meeting Saturday afternoon. The proposal failed, following a debate that pit the lack of U.N. support for the airstrikes against Western assessments that Assad has been using chemical weapons “with impunity” in the eighth year of the Syrian civil war. Only three members of the council supported the Russian resolution, compared to eight votes against, with the remaining four nations represented on the council abstaining. “The time for talk ended last night,” U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley said during the meeting. “The Syrian regime has forced us to take action.”...

Pentagon After Action Press Conference
and Debriefing on U.S., U.K. and French Military Action
by sundance
{ theconservativetreehouse.com } ~ Earlier today the Pentagon conducted a press conference to debrief media and outline the outcome of a coordinated U.S., U.K. and French military mission... against elements within Syria who used chemical weapons.  U.S. General Kenneth McKenzie Jr. gives the specifics on the targets and the outcomes therein. Per General James Mattis – April 13th – Good evening.  As the world knows, the Syrian people have suffered terribly under the prolonged brutality of the Assad regime. On April 7th, the regime decided to again defy the norms of civilized people, showing callous disregard for international law by using chemical weapons to murder women, children and other innocents. We and our allies find these atrocities inexcusable. As our commander in chief, the president has the authority under Article II of the Constitution to use military force overseas to defend important U.S. national interests.  The United States has an important national interest in averting a worsening catastrophe in Syria, and specifically deterring the use and proliferation of chemical weapons...  https://theconservativetreehouse.com/2018/04/14/pentagon-after-acti...

Rosenstein Nukes Comey: Americans
Don't Have All The Facts On Him
by RYAN SAAVEDRA
{ dailywire.com } ~ On Friday, a newly-released report revealed that Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein has allegedly told multiple people... in private conversations that he did the right thing by firing disgraced former FBI Director James Comey, insisting that the American public does not yet have all the facts about him. Rosenstein has reportedly told confidantes that he is prepared to be fired, saying that he is at peace with the likelihood because he knows he did the job with integrity. NBC News reports: Rosenstein has said in recent private conversations that history will prove he did the right thing by firing Comey in May 2017, claiming that the American people do not have all the facts about what led to his decision to write the memo that led to Comey's dismissal, the sources said. The NBC News' report comes right as Comey's new book is set to be released and a recorded interview with ABC News' George Stephanopoulos is set to air this Sunday...  https://www.dailywire.com/news/29405/rosenstein-nukes-comey-america...

IRGC-controlled Syrian militia
declares jihad against US forces in Syria
by AMIR TOUMAJ & ROMANY SHAKER
{ longwarjournal.org } ~ A Syrian militia led by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared jihad on April 6 against US and allied forces in Syria... Since 2017, the US has twice come into direct contact with the group. The IRGC is likely to boost its military support to the group as it explores avenues to drive the US out of Syria. The Baqir Brigade (AKA Liwa al Baqir or Liwa al Imam al Baqir) published on its social media page a statement with the Baqqara Tribe, to which its members belong. The tribe claims descent from the fifth Shiite Imam, Muḥammad al Baqir, the brigade’s namesake. The group’s open declaration features a militia logo that is a replication of the rising hand and AK-47 in the official logo of the IRGC and militias under its control. “Statement No. 1 Al Hasakah-Al Jazirah Region” started with the following Quranic verse: “So do not obey the disbelievers, and strive against them with the Quran a great striving” [Al Furqan, 52]...  https://www.longwarjournal.org/archives/2018/04/irgc-controlled-syr...

Was Robert Mueller's Predawn Raid
On Michael Cohen's Office & Home A Fatal Mistake?
by ELIZABETH VAUGHN

{ freedomoutpost.com } ~ Connecticut Senator Richard Blumenthal, a Democrat, excitedly told MSNBC’s “Morning Joe”... that Monday’s raid on Michael Cohen’s home, office and hotel room was “seismic." "It’s a little bit like a nuclear strike with multiple warheads," said Blumenthal. "First remember that it had to go through multiple levels of review, all by Trump appointees.” Yes, Mr. Blumenthal, it certainly was seismic. It made many Americans gasp. But not for the reasons you believe. It has shone a light on how despicable and unjust Mueller’s investigation has become. It may have finally made Americans pause and see for the first time how this President has been mistreated and yes, even feel the first stirrings of sympathy for him. It’s the stuff of authoritarian dictatorships. Michael Cohen had been cooperating with Mueller’s team. This type of raid is normally carried out as a last resort after other more reasonable means of obtaining information have been exhausted...  https://freedomoutpost.com/was-robert-muellers-predawn-raid-on-mich...

LOOK: Obama Declared National Emergencies 13 Times Including Swine Flu, Iran And Flint Water Crisis

President Trump is expected to declare a State of Emergency at the US southern border on Friday.

Declaring the immigration crisis a national emergency is overdue. Presidents have declared national emergencies for nearly 50 years.

4

Barack Obama declared 13 national emergencies, 11 of which continue to this day. The Obama emergencies included the Swine Flu, Flint water crisis and Iran.

The Conservative Tribune reported:

As it turns out, there are currently 31 ongoing national emergencies over which the president wields certain authorities, the first of which has been in existence since 1979 and is one of only two emergencies declared by Carter.

There were a total of six national emergencies during former President Ronald Reagan’s tenure, as well as four more during the administration of former President George H.W. Bush, all of which have ended.

Former President Bill Clinton declared 17 national emergencies — six of which remain in effect — while former President George W. Bush declared 12 national emergencies, of which 10 remain ongoing.

Then we get to former President Barack Obama, who declared 13 national emergencies, 11 of which continue to this day. Thus far, President Trump has declared three active and ongoing national emergencies.
