CONGRESS RECONVENES: Congress’s August recess comes to a conclusion today. The legislative chambers “face a broad array of issues, with spending, trade policy, guns and an expanded border wall all potential flashpoints,” The Wall Street Journal reports. “Adding to the complication: Lawmakers are already keeping an eye on next year’s elections.” That will be the primary calculus for the two parties’ leadership in the lead up to the 2020 election — meaning more bulwarks, more obstruction, more rhetoric, and more grandstanding are the only sure bets.
PEACE TALKS SCRUBBED: “President Donald Trump’s decision to hold a meeting in Washington with Taliban leaders and Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani to try to solidify a peace deal to end the 18-year-long war was first discussed about a week ago,” NBC News reveals. Yesterday, Trump stated that he “immediately cancelled the meeting and called off peace negotiations” because “they admitted to an attack in Kabul that killed one of our great great soldiers, and 11 other people.” But according to NBC News, National Security Advisor John Bolton “vehemently opposed” the meeting, and Vice President Mike Pence “made the case against a meeting at Camp David, a location Trump suggested.” And rightly so. This week marks the anniversary of 9/11, and “Pence argued at one point that such a meeting could send the wrong message to members of the U.S. military who have fought — and been killed by — the Taliban for years.”

IRAN INFRACTIONS: Via Reuters: “Iran said on Saturday it was now capable of raising uranium enrichment past the 20% level and had launched advanced centrifuge machines in further breaches of commitments to limit its nuclear activity under a 2015 deal with world powers. … The 2015 pact curbed Iran’s disputed nuclear program in exchange for relief from sanctions, but has unraveled since the United States pulled out of it last year and acted to strangle Iran’s oil trade to push it into wider security concessions.” Importantly, Iran was already violating the nuclear deal even before the U.S. abandoned it. Iran is now exploiting the U.S. withdrawal and twisting its own machinations as vindication for more blatant violations. On a related note, former Defense Secretary Jim Mattis is admonishing Barack scumbag/liar nObama for pacifying Iran.
SEAL LEADERS DISMISSED: “In a highly unusual move, three senior leaders of a SEAL team were dismissed Friday due to a loss of confidence in their leadership skills only weeks after a unit in Iraq was sent home accused of sexual assault and the platoon chief of another unit was convicted for posing with a casualty. Naval Special Warfare Command said Rear Adm. Collin Green relieved them because their leadership failures caused a breakdown of order and discipline within two units while deployed to combat zones. The men will remain in the Navy and they are not accused of any misconduct themselves.” (Associated Press)
HEADING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION: “The number of migrants caught crossing the southwest border continued a sharp decline in August… Border Patrol arrested roughly 51,000 migrants in August, a 30 percent drop from the previous month. The latest figures signal that counter-migration measures instituted by the Trump administration may be reducing the number of border crossers. Border arrests rose from July to August in eight of the last 10 years, which suggests the current drop is not related to recent historical patterns.” (Politico)

SANFORD CHALLENGES TRUMP: “Former Gov. Mark Sanford on Sunday said he will mount a primary challenge to President Trump in 2020, jumping into the race after publicly toying with the idea for several months,” according to The Washington Times. However, the odds are greatly stacked against Sanford and other Republican challengers. As CBS News reports, “The Republican parties in South Carolina and Nevada announced Saturday that they would not be holding their presidential nominating contests in 2020, and all Republican delegates will be committed to President Trump. They join the Kansas Republican Party, which confirmed on Friday that it will not hold its caucuses in 2020.”
DARK CLOUDS AT NOAA: “Former top officials of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration are assailing the agency for undermining its weather forecasters as it defends President Donald Trump’s statement from days ago that Hurricane Dorian threatened Alabama,” according to the Associated Press. “They say NOAA’s action risks the credibility of the nation’s weather and science agency and may even risk lives.” Meanwhile, The Washington Post adds that the agency’s “acting chief scientist said in an email to colleagues Sunday that he is investigating whether the agency’s response to President Trump’s Hurricane Dorian tweets constituted a violation of NOAA policies and ethics.”

America’s Congressional delegation now includes representatives of the Islamo-leftist alliance, who are driven to demonize Israel and spread age-old antisemitic stereotypes. Radical antisemites are growing bolder, less censored, and less afraid to share their hateful views with the world through digital and social media. In the decades following the Holocaust, “Never Again” was repeated by millions who had no idea they needed to do something about it. Somehow, in front of our eyes, “Never Again” is becoming “Again and Again” as radical movements that threaten all Americans but are united in their hatred towards Jews, are growing stronger in broad daylight. Antisemitism is growing, but it’s going to get much worse. A perfect storm of circumstances is elevating the dangers significantly. Jew-haters are taking advantage of the radicalization of our society, utilizing the biased mainstream and social media to amplify their message and enjoy unparalleled access to weapons to attack our communities in frightening ways. How did we get to this place? Jew-hating looks different today than it did in the past. In medieval times, people hated Jews because of their religion. In the 20th century, Nazism viewed Jews as a race to be eradicated. Today, the new-antisemitism, fueled by the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement, is disguised as hatred towards Israel – the only Jewish State in the world. However, with the assistance of many useful idiots, some of them Jews, the BDS movement promotes hatred toward all Jews globally, radicalizes all the extreme movements and promotes violence against Jews and other minorities...

The program for the Amazon's synod in Rome talks about "life threatened", "inculturation and interculturality", "extractivist destruction" and "indigenous peoples", among other matters. There is, however, another group of "indigenous people" whose life has been "threatened" and who live under an existential physical "destruction." They are the persecuted Christians, and the Vatican should dedicate the next synod to them. "They asked him to deny Christ and when he refused they cut off his right hand; then he refused again, they cut to the elbow. In which he refused, before they shot him in the forehead, the neck, and chest," a Nigerian Christian, Enoch Yeohanna, recently recounted about his father's murder in 2014. In the same week as the awful attack on the mosque in Christchurch, New Zealand—a heinous and unconscionable crime—more than two hundred Christians were killed in Nigeria. There was hardly any mention of the latter in the news. There were no marches for martyred Christians, no tolling of church bells ordered by governments, no "Je suis Charlie" t-shirts... no public outrage at all."...

He argued Democratic presidential candidates were wrong to say climate change is the greatest "existential threat" to the United States when China is fast accumulating more military and economic power. "It's going to take all of America's will, policy focus, and effort to mitigate that threat," Gertz said. "We are in real trouble. China is on the march." Gertz said Chinese President Xi Jinping has actually pulled China in front of the United States in key strategic areas. "Xi Jinping has shifted the old policy of Deng Xiaoping, which was ‘bide our time, build our capabilities.' They are now out front. He has something called the China Dream, which is really a Chinese communist nightmare," Gertz said. "They are doing this Belt and Road Initiative, which is a cover for military and economic expansionism around the world." The U.S. policy of "engagement" to open China up and turn it into a "benign, free-market, open system" was a gamble that has "utterly failed," Gertz argued. He pointed to Chinese theft of nuclear secrets following increased military cooperation with the United States during the scumbag/liar-Bill Clinton administration. "They ended up stealing nuclear secrets on every deployed U.S. warhead. That technology was then spread to Pakistan, Iran, North Korea, and other places," he said. "We helped their missiles and now their missiles are aimed at our cities. They have an array of long-range, short-range, and intermediate-range missiles. This is a real problem." According to Gertz's reporting, Chinese officials are directing a sophisticated, four-pronged influence strategy to harm Trump's reelection chances. In addition, Trump administration officials have recognized publicly that China has continued its cyberattacks on U.S. government networks.

The questioner, identified by CNN as a teacher named Martha Readyoff, said that she realized linking population control to climate was a topic "poisonous for politicians, but it's crucial to face." "Empowering women and educating everyone on the need to curb population growth seems a reasonable campaign to enact. Would you be courageous enough to discuss this issue and make it a key feature of a plan to address climate catastrophe?" "Well, Martha, the answer is yes," commie-Sanders said. "The answer has everything to do with the fact that women in the United States of America, by the way, have a right to control their own bodies, and make reproductive decisions," the senator said to applause from the crowd. "The Mexico City agreement which denies American aide to those organizations around the world that allow women to have abortions or even get involved in birth control to me is totally absurd," commie-Sanders continued. "So I think, especially in poor countries around the world where women do not necessarily want to have large numbers of babies, and where they can have the opportunity through birth control to control the number of kids they have, is something I very, very strongly support."...

Labeling Law-Abiding Gun Owners 'Terrorists'Thomas Gallatin: Ever since the 2017 school attack in Parkland, Florida, the anti-gun lobby has repeatedly called the nation’s oldest Second Amendment advocate and defender — the National Rifle Association — a “terrorist organization.” Well, on Tuesday the San Francisco Board of Supervisors sought to make this fallacious designation official, unanimously passing a resolution declaring the five-million-member NRA to be a “domestic terrorist organization.” The resolution states, “All countries have violent and hateful people, but only in America do we give the ready access to assault weapons and large-capacity magazines thanks, in large part, to the National Rifle Association’s influence.” The resolution aims to “limit those entities who do business with the City and County of San Francisco from doing business with this domestic terrorist organization.”
But its real intention goes far beyond one city or one organization, weakened as the NRA is by fratricidal infighting. This is the Left’s direct assault against all law-abiding gun owners and Americans’ Second Amendment rights.
The resolution’s nonsensical claim that the NRA promotes terror because it supposedly incites “gun owners to acts of violence” is patently false, and the framer of this resolution, Supervisor Catherine Stefani, knows it. This is akin to blaming silverware manufactures for America’s obesity problem.
By labeling the NRA and by extension all law-abiding gun owners as terrorists who present a “threat to public safety,” the anti-gun Left hopes to so demonize the NRA that anyone associated with it is effectively labeled a danger to society. It’s not hard to imagine companies feeling pressured into refusing to do business with anyone who is an NRA member and eventually anyone who is a firearm owner. Look no further than Walmart’s recent decision to stop selling most ammunition. Such totalitarian results are what the anti-Second Amendment Left is really aiming for.
