Rand Paul: 'You can't have open borders and a welfare state'

Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul has his priority list ready to go as he runs for president, and border security and immigration reform are definitely on it.

"I think something has to be done. If you aren't for doing any kind of immigration reform, you're for another 10 (million) or 11 million people coming in unaccounted for," the Republican said Thursday on KTAR, a Phoenix, Ariz., radio station.

Paul then paraphrased American economist Milton Friedman: "You can't have open borders and a welfare state. We've kind of got both of right now — we have a completely open border and we've got this enormous welfare state."

He added: "So you've got to stop one of them, and so right now what we really need to do is secure the border. We need to know who comes in, who leaves, we need to make sure none of them are terrorists and then we have to control the border, that's part of it."

The Question I always like to ask is  WHY do you have ants at your picnic..?

Because you leave food out and they come for a hand out!

So why do we have a border problem... [illegals coming across our borders]

Same reason ants come to your picnic

You attract them with a hand out!

James, you hit the nail right on the head.  People coming into this country illegally don't really want to BE Americans; they just want the benefits.  We need to keep Bush and Christie from getting the nomination for pres.  Vote in your primaries.

Terry, I want to tell all that in 20 states if you are not a registered republican you can not vote for a republican in the primaries. I know I was a registered Independant and found out that I would not be able to vote for a republican in my states primary so I changed back to republican because this 2016 president vote is the most important vote of mu life time. I will not donte to the republican party but will donate to the republican I want to win.

I am in Jefferson County Florida and registered Independent but never get to vote for any candidates in primaries (all are closed); they won't even give me a provisional ballot for writing in someone. This tactic prevents about 30% of Americans from voting in such primaries.

My advice to you is to change to the republican party. Just dont donate to the party but to the one you decide to vote for. Thats how you can beat that.

Robert, there is good and bad in everything.  They do that to try to keep a lot of Democrats from voting for the Republican of THEIR choice.  It would be a whole lot better if people were just honest with integrity but, then, that is not reality.

Terry -

You're right on the money!  I'm registered as a Republican; I get all the info (including a zillion requests for donations - that I ignore); I get to vote in the primaries to select Conservative candidates and oust RINOs; and I only donate directly to the candidates I want - not donate to them so they can give it to the Big-Government lackeys they want.

Hopefully we can get robert h siddell jr (couple posts above this one) to do the same - we need his vote to count (I also live in Florida - Hernando County).

Robert, it's on my todo list next time I'm in Monticello. There used to be a Libertarian and Constitution Party here etc but they dried up. Obama is a historic madman that was foreseen by God and He tried to warn us via several prophets (Joe Brandt, David Wilkerson, Dimitry Duduman, the 90 year old woman in 1968, Rebecca Sterling, several speakers at the Prophecy Club, Patricia Green) but like Hitler and WWll, a majority of influential people supported him and the masses adored an antichrist. The antiRINOs are so few; I'll try to find the best, get on a corner with a sign and vote in the primary. Prayer & Bibles don't seem to be much good at the moment but when the Useful Idiots actually feel and see the horrors of the Four Horsemen they have unleashed (coming economic, natural, civil and military disasters), then some will come back. Best regards to you.

Oh, Boy, well if Rand means everyone coming and going at the Borders, we will have the biggist line going in History!!!  I doubt we have the Personnel there to handle it, and I can see the People getting frustrated, hot, and angry.

Interesting he doesn't say Welfare instead.  Maybe this can't change?

I agree with Friedman in Principle, but practically it would be hard to implement.  How you going to identify whose a Terrorist, though as a Security Officer I am all for it.

I wonder if anyone asked Rand how he would propose this be accomplished safely.

Want to see just how the border works ?  Go to the border crossing at Tijuana ...

Going into Mexico takes 5 minutes !

Coming back will take 3 hours

That is called the San Ysidro crossing and I was there last may.

Thanks James.  I wish I could, but I am in New England and I patrol the US/Canada Border in Maine.  AND the major Highways up there.  So far, we are not having issues.  Pray to God it stays that way!

BUT I see other problems INSIDE the country with the Terrorist Groups and NOT just Jihad and Moslem, but also Animal Rights and Earth Rights, and Families are getting the shaft because of these, Innocent people are being attacked!  WHY?  Take a good look at what goes on inside the Courts.  Look at Ferguson and now Baltimore.  There will be many more.

Yes, I agree with Rand, but how do we get the Top Command in DC to do their job in Security for the People?  I just put in a case in DC.  It got dismissed because I did not comply with Rule 8a.  Darn!  I am not a Lawyer!  I did the best I could.  I have a good case.  I address these important issues, and I was an eye witness!

Would Rand take the case and run with it?  Margot

End the welfare state and a lot of problems will be solved. Rand is Right.

Florida Sheriff — “I Will Not Enforce Assault Weapons Ban, Neither Will Most Sheriffs”

Dennis Lemma, who is the Sheriff in Central Florida’s Seminole County, told a group of 2nd Amendment activists recently that he would not enforce an assault weapons ban that could soon become Florida law if the “Ban Assault Weapons Now” amendment passes in the Sunshine State.

According to News965, the ban has the following specifications.

The amendment proposed in the state legislature would ban possession of assault weapons, which are defined as “semiautomatic rifles and shotguns capable of holding more than 10 rounds of ammunition at once, either in fixed or detachable magazine, or any other ammunition feeding device.”

Lemma, an ardent supporter of the 2nd Amendment and a first term sheriff who is running for re-election, said this about whether or not he would enforce such a law.

“It’s not only that I wouldn’t, the majority of sheriffs across the state would not do it,” Lemma said in the video. It’s up to the sheriffs what they are willing to enforce.”
