Chicago Celebrates Holiday Weekend With Nine Dead, 53 Wounded in Shootings

Just imagine the carnage if they didn’t have those strict gun control laws on the books.

Statistics may show Chicago’s homicide rate is down to levels not seen since the 1960s, but parts of the city are still a war zone, residents of the South and West sides said after another bloody Fourth of July weekend.

As of 11:45 p.m. Sunday, nine people had been killed and another 53 wounded in gun violence over the holiday weekend, according to Chicago Police. Two more were shot dead by police.

While the boom of fireworks could be heard across the city, in places like West Englewood, South Shore and Austin, the bang of gunshots seemed almost as common.

All those killed were black or Hispanic men age 35 or younger. Two — Shaquille Ross, 18, and Kezon Lamb, 19 — were teenagers.

Just four shootings occurred on the North Side. But in West Englewood alone, one man was killed and eight others were shot.

“I gotta get out of here. In Englewood it’s looking like everybody is gonna be dead,” said Patricia Donald, 17, a recent graduate of Englewood High School whose car was once caught in gang crossfire, and who is moving to Oklahoma to attend college in the Fall.

When you take guns from honest citzens only the crimmials will have guns.......

Let them kill each other as it will cost us taxpayers less money. Put military all around city so no one escapes and let killing continue until everyone is dead. They deserve that much.

Chicago, my kind of town!

It has been run by Liberals forever and the idiots who live there keep putting them back in office.

Obviously, a loaded question....ya know the answer!!  This is Husseins hand picked Mayor. And, later, hand picked Police Chief.....I would not trust the numbers.....Mayor and PC...say, gun violence and other crime DOWN....numbers game....same with IRS..HHS...all controlled by daily phone cons with the "white house" war room, controlled by V. Jarrett and her 50 plus appointed Czars....not an American among them.  This is Husseins/Jarretts/Holders/Johnsons (DHS) Just doing what VJ tells them.  Remember, she is in charge of our "Shadow Government"....any question you may have on the incompetence, disfuntional, government we now answered by this fact!!!

With the new "arrivals" that will be the fate of America.  No neighborhood, no citizen will be safe.

Every one knows that if you have more killings you need more gun control, which equals more killings and the need for more gun control, which,,,,, and so on. You would think even a politician could see that gun control does not work,,,,even a politician should be able to see that. What we need is more gang control and police in their face presents righ in the area they call their own.

Their Mayor is doing a great job.  You go Chicago.

Right! Why we have Florida State Police on our northern border to keep people like you and all Chicagoans out of our Free state!!

I'm sure it was the terrorist white Tea Party that did this... something obama would agree with!

What did we do to deserve what is happening to us?

This is what gun control will do.

TRUMP:  Trump To Give ‘Start Your Engines’ Command At Dayton

President Donald Trump will give the command for drivers to start their engines before the Daytona 500.

Daytona International Speedway officials named Trump the grand marshal for NASCAR’s season opener, meaning he will deliver the most famous four words in auto racing. “Gentleman, start your engines,” has been a staple of races around the country and world for decades.

White House spokesman Judd Deere said Thursday the president plans to attend the race. Track president Chip Wile confirmed the news in a release.

“Daytona International Speedway has been privileged to have hosted several sitting presidents of the United States over our history,” Wile said. “We’re honored that the president of the United States has chosen to experience the pageantry and excitement of ‘The Great American Race.’”

Trump is the third sitting president to attend a race at Daytona, but only the second to attend the Daytona 500. George W. Bush attended in 2004. Trump is the first to be given an honorary role in pre-race ceremonies.

Trump is scheduled to spend part of the Presidents Day weekend at his private club in Palm Beach, Florida.

The Federal Aviation Administration issued a flight restriction for Sunday and the U.S. Secret Service, which is responsible for presidential security, also tweeted to fans that drones are prohibited within 30 miles of the race in Daytona Beach — a restriction put in place for presidential visits.

Trump has hosted previous NASCAR champions at the White House and last October awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom to motorsports titan Roger Penske. Last year, Trump also praised retired driver Mario Andretti, the Daytona 500 winner in 1967, reminiscing about a ride Andretti gave him in a race car for his reality show “The Apprentice.”

“I said, ‘Mario, get me out of here. I want to get out of this car,’” Trump recalled. “We went so fast. We literally — we covered four blocks in like a second.”
