  • The decrepit frame building shown in the right hand photo was 1471 Atwater Street.  It  was bought for millions by the City of Detroit during Mayor Archer's Riverfront Casino boondoggle and demolished in approx. 2002.  Not less than $150 million dollars was spent buying such unsalable obsolete properties for casino development which went elsewhere.  The Mayor's friends however did very well on their land sales.  One of the Mayor's friends was very fortunate to have bought his property just six days before public announcement of the Riverfront initiative.
