freebeacon.com } ~ The Education Department has informed Congress that it is launching an investigation into how $235,000 in federal grants were used to fund a series of anti-Israel events... that featured speakers and events tied to Palestinian terror groups organized by Duke University and the University of North Carolina. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos informed Rep. George Holding (R., Ga.), a member of the Ways and Means Committee, that she has directed her agency to investigate how these funds were used and whether they violated grant conditions, according to a letter sent to Holding, who had initially requested an investigation into the anti-Israel conference in April. "I am troubled by the concerns outlined in your letter," DeVos wrote to Holding, according to a copy of that letter obtained by the Free Beacon. "In order for the Department to learn more about this matter, I have directed the Office of Post secondary Education to examine the use of funds under this program to determine if the Consortium violated the terms and conditions of its grant, Department regulates, or the HEA. It is critical that recipients of grants use funds in accordance with statutory and regulatory requirements, as well as for purposes of the program for which they are funded." The joint UNC-Duke conference spawned concern in the pro-Israel community due to what observers described as extreme anti-Israel bias. Lawmakers such as Holding, as well as pro-Israel campus advocates, maintained that the conference fostered an unsafe environment for Jewish students and was part of a larger effort by anti-Israel activists on campus to drive support for the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement. "I appreciate Secretary DeVos treating this matter with the seriousness and attention it deserves," Holding told the Free Beacon. "Substituting one-sided advocacy for constructive academic discourse undermines the integrity of our education system and exploits the American taxpayers." "Universities have a responsibility to promote free and open debate featuring diverse perspectives and viewpoints," Holding said. Holding first reported to the Free Beacon in April that his office had received multiple phone calls from concerned constituents who described the conference as an anti-Israel hate fest. The conference in question, titled "Conflict over Gaza: People, Politics, and Possibilities," was co-sponsored by the Duke-UNC Consortium for Middle East Studies, which reportedly "applied for and received a $235,000 grant through the Department of Education in 2018."...

Iran: New Terrorist Activity in Europe

gatestoneinstitute.org } ~ Iran is intensifying its efforts to build a global terror network as the ayatollahs come under increasing economic and political pressure resulting from US sanctions... While US officials continue to investigate Iran's involvement in the recent series of attacks on a number of oil tankers operating in the Gulf, counter-terrorism experts have uncovered evidence that Iran is also working hard to develop its terrorist infrastructure well beyond the confines of the Middle East. Intelligence officials are particularly concerned about Iran's activities in Europe where they have identified a recent upsurge in Iranian-sponsored terrorist activity. The first suggestion that Iran was using Europe as a new theatre in which to stage its terrorist operations came in 2012 when a Hizbollah terror cell carried out a bomb attack against a tour bus in Bulgaria that was ferrying a party of Israeli holidaymakers to a local airport. Five Israelis and the Bulgarian bus driver were killed in the attack, and 32 Israelis were injured. Evidence subsequently produced by Bulgarian security officials to the European Union showed that two Lebanese-based Hizbollah terrorists were responsible for the attack, which resulted in the EU taking the unprecedented step of officially listing the military branch of Hizbollah as a terrorist organisation. More recently European security officials have registered a significant upsurge in Iranian-backed terrorist activity. In June last year two Iranian diplomats were expelled from the Netherlands for plotting political assassinations in the country, while the same month France's intelligence ministry foiled a bomb plot to target a rally of opposition groups in Paris. Then in October the Danish authorities accused Iran of an "unusual and serious" plot to murder an Arab separatist leader. Moreover, all these plots took place after Tehran signed the 2015 nuclear deal with the major world powers, an agreement that the scumbag/liar-nObama administration claimed would encourage the ayatollahs to undertake a more constructive engagement in the outside world...

freebeacon.com } ~ A massive effort to obtain Michigan voter data spearheaded by powerhouse Democratic group Priorities USA was so "unusual" that top officials in the state contacted the Federal Bureau of Investigation... and Department of Homeland Security over the matter, internal emails provided to the Washington Free Beacon show. Michigan clerks began receiving "mystery" Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests last year from an opaque limited liability company, the United Impact Group LLC, seeking a large assortment of voter data from across the state, including ballots cast in the 2016 elections. The efforts were later linked to the Priorities USA Foundation, the separate but affiliated nonprofit arm of Priorities USA Action, the largest outside liberal super PAC. The requests from the group "unnerved" local clerks, the Detroit News reported at the time. Even though Priorities had been publicly tied to the effort, and officials were aware of the connection, the nature of the requests and the opacity of the LLC alarmed officials to such a high degree that numerous government agencies were alerted, according to emails shared with the  Free Beacon obtained through Michigan records requests by the Public Interest Legal Foundation, a group that litigates to protect election integrity. "Attached and below you will find information regarding an unusual Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request that has been pursued in Michigan," Mike Senyko, then the chief of staff in Michigan's secretary of state's office wrote in an Aug. 28, 2018, email to a senior adviser on election security at the Department of Homeland Security. "Following is a brief summary: All, or virtually all, of the local units of government in Michigan have received a FOIA request asking for ballots from the November 2016 presidential elections in Michigan. The State has not received the request. In addition to the request itself being unusual, the organization/person behind it was not easily identified – specifically Emily of the United Impact Group in Astoria, NY. In most instances, identifying information was redacted by the request or furthering the unusualness of the request."...

Manufactured Reality:
When Everything Becomes Fake

americanthinker.com } ~ If Plato were to come back today and see for himself what the modern world has become, he would be amazed at how accurate his description of reality was with his Allegory of the Cave... In it, he wrote that everything we see is just like shadows that are cast on the walls of a cave by a fire and that it takes stepping out from the cave in order for a person to see what is real rather than the artificial reality of shadows. It was Immanuel Kant who further elaborated on Plato's  cave in his seminal book Critique of Pure Reason as to what we can ultimately know based on Reason and that which we can't. In his book, Kant breaks down reality into two categories: phenomenon and the noumenon. The phenomenal realm is the visible and material world in which we all live and go about our day-to-day activities guided by Reason and science, those things that make world work for us, whether driving our car, watching television or surfing the internet. It is the only world we can ever really know and understand. The noumenal world is the invisible and transcendent world, the realm where God resides and an objective moral order. Although Kant believes this realm exists, it's not worth paying attention to because it is invisible and unknowable, and beyond the reach of Reason. In essence, Kant is saying that living in the cave and accepting the shadows as our reality is the only one worth knowing because it is futile to do otherwise. And with that, Kant laid down the foundations of subjectivism where man has become the measure of all things and places himself at the center of his universe. and where moral relativism triumphs over an absolute and objective moral order -- and ultimately truth itself. Fast forward to the present. We live in world where everything is manufactured, and not just products coming off of an assembly line. There is of course the fake news everyone has heard and read about where the mainstream media has dropped all sense of objectivity in reporting the news and in many cases now openly admits that it is advocating for one political party and ideology. This ideology known as liberalism is coming to be more known as a fake religion. When Kant determined and proclaimed for the world that the transcendent is unknowable and not worth even trying to understand, the vacuum was filled by a materialist worldview that man can save himself by creating heaven on earth. This is what the liberal high priests proclaim with every utterance while preaching to their flock on the campaign trail: "Vote for me and I will usher in the utopian paradise you have been seeking." When everything becomes subjective everything becomes subject to manipulation. This is the essence of the Russia Collusion Hoax, a fake conspiracy concocted by Deep State actors. It originated with an unverified dossier created in order to first impede a presidential campaign and then to bring down a newly-elected president. It may have been the most successful public relations campaign ever concocted. The man who invented public relations, Edward Bernays, wrote a highly influential book titled Propaganda, that describes how one can persuade a person to one's point of view through manipulation. When you have the media on your side, all you have to do now make an accusation and it will stand as truth without questioning...

Thinks You’re Stupid

freebeacon.com } ~ When you hear the term "concentration camp," what's the first thing you think of? The concentration of German nationals by Woodrow Wilson during World War One, right?... Or maybe the forced concentration of the Whites by the Reds following the Finnish Civil War? No. You think of the Holocaust of course, which is why it was quite irresponsible for Democratic congresswoman commie-Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to declare recently that the United States's "fascist government" Is there a more self-defeating argument than calling the ruling regime "fascist" and facing zero consequences? is operating "concentration camps." What the government is actually operating are detention facilities to deal with the surge in migrants crossing the Mexican border. To my knowledge, said detention facilities have not yet undertaken the genocide of millions. So absurd is the comparison and insulting to actual Holocaust survivors that commie-Ocasio-Cortez's only recourse—what with her deathly allergy to apology or self-reflection—was to double-down that teeeeeeechnically "concentration camp" is not synonymous with "death camp," so there. To begin with, it does nothing for commie-Ocasio-Cortez's argument to boil down concentration camps to merely "the mass detention of civilians without trial," when the entire purpose of the facilities she is misdescribing is to detain individuals pending further hearings. These stays can be lengthy given the ongoing border crisis, on average 34 days, but that's only somewhat worse than the 25-day average length of stay in American jails before trial. I suspect most would bristle at the notion the U.S. routinely jails thousands "without trial" when those individuals are simply awaiting trial. But to her larger point, there was indeed a time when "concentration camp" was a value-neutral term for camps a government forced large groups of people into. That time ended circa 1945 when Allied troops discovered the worst genocide in recorded history, and the true extent of German "concentration camps" came to light...

Culture Beat:  Thirty-six police officers were injured in Frayser, Tennessee, a suburb of Memphis, when a riot broke out following the news that U.S. Marshals had shot and killed Brandon Webber, a black man wanted for several violent felonies, as they attempted to apprehend him. According to reports, Webber attempted to ram the marshals’ vehicle, and then exited the vehicle he was driving with a weapon when he was shot. Authorities note that Webber was the suspect in a Facebook sale gone bad in which the seller was shot and his car stolen.

As word of the incident spread into the Frayser community, a large crowd began to form, many to protest what they called unwarranted police violence. Unfortunately, a riot broke out. As the Western Journal reports, “Memphis police were summoned to the scene in a support role, but soon became the target of a crowd that gathered and threw objects at them. Three people were arrested in the chaos that followed. Police said what they called ‘a chemical agent’ was used to disperse the crowd.”

Memphis Police Director Mike Rallings praised his officers’ actions, noting, “I need everyone to stay calm. If your home was vandalized or you were harmed, we need you to call police. When this happens in a neighborhood, the neighborhood is victimized. The officers did an enormous job tonight showing restraint in a very volatile situation.”

We don’t see this developing into another national story the way Ferguson did, though it isn’t for lack of trying on the part of the “Black Lives Matter” mob.  ~The Patriot Post
