Bill Barr Wants Clean FISA Reauthorization
Because He Will Not Abuse It

{ theconservativetreehouse.com } ~ This is likely the most insufferably short-sighted political position in decades. Faced with years of evidence showing worsening abuses by government officials using the FISA court... U.S. Attorney General Bill Barr says a clean reauthorization bill is the best option because his DOJ and FBI will not abuse it. Note the import of AG Barr’s position. He is not saying the system *cannot* be abused; and he is not saying that reform isn’t needed to prevent systemic abuse; only that he can give assurances under his tenure FISA data collection and exploitation will *not* be abused. What happens when an administration changes?…. ::::crickets chirping::::In November of 2019 buried deep in the congressional budget Continuing Resolution (CR) was a short-term extension to reauthorize the FISA “business records provision”, the “roving wiretap” provision, the “lone wolf” provision, and the more controversial bulk metadata provisions [Call Detail Records (CDR)], all parts of the Patriot Act. As a result of the FISA CR inclusion the terminal deadline was pushed to March 15, 2020: Attorney General William Barr told Senate Republicans on Tuesday that the Trump administration could support a clean extension of contentious surveillance laws set to expire next month. And Barr said he could make changes on his own to satisfy President Donald Trump and his allies who have railed against the use of the law to monitor his 2016 campaign, according to senators at a party briefing...

Coronavirus infects US soldier
for first time, military says
By Louis Casiano
{ foxnews.com } ~ A U.S. soldier stationed in South Korea has tested positive for the coronavirus and is in self-quarantine at his residence off base... the military said Tuesday. The 23-year-old is based at Camp Carroll near the city of Daegu, where most of the country's coronavirus cases have been clustered, and he visited Camp Walker earlier this week. He is the first U.S. service member to become infected. Health professionals are trying to determine whether or not others have been exposed to COVID-19, U.S. Forces Korea (USFK) said in a statement. "USFK is implementing all appropriate control measures to help control the spread of COVID-19 and remains at risk level 'high' for USFK peninsula-wide as a prudent measure to protect the force," the command said. The news comes as American and South Korean officials are considering restricting joint military exercises over concerns about the virus. U.S.  Defense Secretary Mark Esper and South Korean Defense Minister Jeong Kyeong-doo told reporters on Tuesday that the coronavirus is a threat to the military drills, which are held throughout the year. The U.S. has around 28,500 troops stationed in South Korea, where it maintains a strong presence to deter potential North Korean  aggression. On Monday, USFK announced the 61-year-old widow of a U.S. soldier who lives in Daegu tested positive for the virus. The news prompted the command to raise its risk level to high through the peninsula. South Korea’s Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Wednesday that 134 new cases were confirmed in Daegu and another 19 from neighboring towns. South Korean officials reported that 11 people have died so far. South Korea now has a total of 1,146 confirmed coronavirus cases. “This week will be critical in the fight to combat the [...] illness,” Prime Minister Chung Se-kyun said at a meeting in Daegu City Hall. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued a warning Monday advising American travelers to not make any unnecessary trips to South Korea. “It’s not so much a question of if this will happen anymore, but rather more a question of exactly when this will happen -- and how many people in this country will have severe illness,” CDC's Dr. Nancy Messonnier said in a call with reporters Tuesday. China has reported most of the world's 80,000 cases and 2,700 deaths. Other nations such as France, Italy and Algeria have begun seeing spikes in infections.  https://www.foxnews.com/health/coronavirus-infects-us-soldier-first-time

{ theconservativetreehouse.com } ~ Amid a sudden MSM firestorm, seemingly created to weaponize talking points around the Coronavirus for political damage... U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Resources Alex Azar appears with Lou Dobbs to outline national preparation and prevention efforts. On January 31st President Trump initiated a national health emergency, instituted a proactive travel ban and assembled a Coronavirus taskforce. One key point highlighted by Secretary Azar is the number of U.S. originating cases at 14 has not changed in the two weeks since initially diagnosed. { nationalreview.com } ~ U.S. officials admitted Tuesday that the United States is likely to suffer a coronavirus outbreak, one day after the Trump administration requested $2.5 billion to help slow the spread of the virus... The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention revealed that it now expects a large increase in U.S. cases, and urged Americans to prepare for “the expectation that this might be bad.” Nancy Messonnier, the director of the Center DC’s National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases, said that “it’s not so much of a question of if this will happen in this country any more but a question of when this will happen.” She also warned that “the disruption of daily life might be severe.” The Trump administration has delivered a mixed response on the virus, with U.S. health secretary Alex Azar admitting during a Senate hearing on Tuesday that “we cannot hermetically seal off the United States to a virus . . . and we need to be realistic about that.” Acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf added that “we only know that, again, we anticipate those numbers to grow in the U.S.,” but said he could not give an “exact number.” Later in the day, National Economic Council Director Larry Kudlow struck a different tone on CNBC. “We have contained this — I won’t say airtight, but it’s pretty close to airtight,” he said. Stocks plunged for the second consecutive day, as the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell over 900 points after Tuesday-morning gains. President Trump told reporters in India early Tuesday that he thought “the whole situation will start working out.” There are currently 14 domestic cases confirmed in the country, with an additional three cases among those evacuated from China aboard U.S.-chartered flights, and 40 aboard the Diamond Princess cruise ship in Asia. Health officials are also concerned about the lack of resources needed to diagnose and contain an outbreak, with the CDC still trying to roll out a testing kit for state and local health departments. As of Tuesday, a total of 426 people in the U.S. have been tested for the virus, with 12 states and localities now conducting their own tests. “You’re the secretary of Homeland Security and you can’t tell me if we have enough respirators?” Senator John Kennedy (R., La.) asked Wolf during the Senate hearing, after Wolf did not give a straight answer. Senator Josh Hawley (R., Mo.) announced on Tuesday that he is introducing a bill to reduce reliance on Chinese products, over concerns that coronavirus is threatening “the domestic supply of some 150 prescription drugs, including antibiotics, generics, and branded drugs.”  https://www.nationalreview.com/news/health-officials-expect-u-s-coronavirus-outbreak-its-more-of-a-question-of-when/?utm_source=email&utm_medium=breaking&utm_campaign=newstrack&utm_term=19542236

China expert has disturbing theory
on how coronavirus got loose

by wnd.com ~ Coronavirus often is the top news headline these days, as it should be, with tens of thousands of cases around the world, and well over 2,000 fatalities... It also has triggered a large slide in the American stock market, with investors worried about its impact on the supply chain, transportation, consumers and more. But now a China expert has revealed how the threat may have gotten loose: Through people eating lab animals that had been used as test subjects at a lab that allegedly developed the virus. The expert is Steven Mosher, a social scientist, anti-abortion activist and author who specializes in anthropology, demography and the Chinese government's strategies to contain its population. President of the Population Research Institute, he's been a critical leader among those who have worked to expose that nation's one-child now two-child mandatory abortion procedures. He's also a founding member of the Committee on the Present Danger: China. He appeared on Tucker Carlson's Fox News program to explain his theory, a program on which Carlson himself warned of the danger from coronavirus: Mosher had gone into detail in an earlier commentary in the New York Post. He pointed out how Xi Jinping had announced a desire for a biosecurity control system "to protect the people's health." "Xi didn't actually admit that the coronavirus now devastating large swaths of China had escaped from one of the country's bioresearch labs. But the very next day, evidence emerged suggesting that this is exactly what happened, as the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology released a new directive titled: 'Instructions on strengthening biosecurity management in microbiology labs that handle advanced viruses like the novel coronavirus.'" He continued, "Read that again. It sure sounds like China has a problem keeping dangerous pathogens in test tubes where they belong, doesn’t it? And just how many 'microbiology labs' are there in China that handle 'advanced viruses like the novel coronavirus'? "He said it turns out there's only the one, a Level 4 lab called the National Biosafety Lab near Wuhan's Institute of Virology, in the city that is ground zero for the outbreak. "What’s more, the People’s Liberation Army’s top expert in biological warfare, a Maj. Gen. Chen Wei, was dispatched to Wuhan at the end of January to help with the effort to contain the outbreak," he explained. "According to the PLA Daily, Chen has been researching coronaviruses since the SARS outbreak of 2003, as well as Ebola and anthrax. This would not be her first trip to the Wuhan Institute of Virology, either, since it is one of only two bioweapons research labs in all of China."...

Sweden's Victimized Children

{ gatestoneinstitute.org } ~ The number of children who rob other children has increased by 100% in only four years, according to a new study by Swedish police... about reported violent crimes in which children under the age of 15 are both the victims and the perpetrators. In 2016, there were 1,178 robberies against children under 18 years of age. In 2019, the number had increased to 2,484. The number of violent crimes where the suspect is a child under 15 years of age has also gone up dramatically: In 2015, there were 6,359 reported violent crimes where the suspect was a child under 15. In 2019, that number had increased to 8,719 reported violent crimes. The crimes involve "Violence to the head, kicks, gun threats, burning with lighters, threats to kill, threats to bomb the school, stabbings with food knives, bites and children who have been scratched, dragged, thrown and locked up by other children". The lowest age of a suspected perpetrator was seven. There has also been an increasing number of girl gangs. One girl was violently assaulted by a gang of five girls who kicked her, beat her and spat at her. The girl said she thought she was going to die. "It's ordinary children who are robbed on their way to and from school, they are called 'whore' and told that they're going to get a Glock in the mouth. I think we are letting the kids down", said regional police chief Carin Götblad. Crimes committed by children under 15 years of age are not investigated by the police; they are left to the social workers. "When we get such cases, we send them to the social workers and then it goes a little under the radar. This is not something we have discussed before," said Götblad, who criticized municipalities for not taking crimes committed by children seriously enough. "I think there is an inherent reflex to ignore it because it's not very nice, but then we who are professionals need to look at this in particular and raise awareness. I am terribly worried about all vulnerable victims of crime," Götblad  said. "The suspects are also victims in some sense, but this is still something we have to deal with, that children also commit crimes"...  https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/15558/sweden-victimized-children
