How Trump can Save Rural Health Care

{ americanthinker.com } ~ In the lead-up to the 2020 presidential election, America is coming to terms with a grim reality: thanks in large part to the federal government’s destructive, centrally planned healthcare initiatives, the healthcare industry is deteriorating rapidly... The system doesn’t have the resources to address the United States’ growing medical needs -- and nowhere is this more acutely felt than in rural America.  A December Fox News report highlighted  how fixing the rural healthcare crisis has become a top campaign issue for many states. Since 2005, over 160 rural hospitals have closed their doors, and no less than 430 more are at risk of shutting down. Coupled with the looming doctor shortage, the shuttering of rural-based hospitals presents a difficult problem for the 46 million  Americans living in low-population-density areas. President Trump has been ahead of the curve on this issue. His office isn’t merely parading slogans and empty promises; for the last three years and counting, it has been working to combat this issue. Whether the administration is updating Medicare payment policies to advance rural medical innovation or  easing regulations for rural providers, it has done a great deal to expand healthcare access throughout the American heartland. The residents of critical electoral states like Iowa, Pennsylvania, and Texas have taken note. The Democrat nominees have taken note as well. In an attempt to cut into the president’s rural voting base, candidates such as socialist-Pete Buttigieg and Amy Klobuchar have drummed up some noise by trotting out their own “solutions” to this crisis. Their pie-in-the-sky plans won’t mean much to these voters -- not when they already have a proven ally in the White House. However, if the Trump White House makes any mistakes on this issue, it will allow them to pounce and steal away some support. And unfortunately, if implemented, a well-intentioned but harmful new measure from Trump’s Center for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS) can do just that. CMS recently proposed policy, called the Medical Fiscal Accountability Regulation (MFAR), intended to reform Medicaid. At issue are the federal matching funds  Washington, D.C. provides to the states for the entitlement program -- a policy that has unintentionally led to the states ballooning their Medicaid budgets, thereby costing the federal government a considerable amount of money...

{ explainlife.com } ~ President Donald Trump has come out swinging this week after liberal Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor accused her conservative colleagues of being politically biased towards the president... Soon after her comments scorched across social media, the president sounded off on Twitter and said both Sotomayor and liberal Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg are the ones who are biased and should recuse themselves from any cases involving his administration over their past comments. In a series of tweets, Trump cited host Laura Ingraham’s Fox News show, “The Ingraham Angle,” and he accused Sotomayor of attempting to shame other justices to vote with her. This all began last Friday when Sotomayor, who was nominated by President Barack scumbag/liar-nObama in 2009, issued a blistering dissent after a ruling in the case of Wolf v. Cook County. The Supreme Court ruled in favor of allowing the Trump administration to enforce its “public charge” immigration restriction, lifting a pair of preliminary injunctions issued by federal judges. The “Public Charge” rule states that legal immigrants are less likely to secure permanent residency in the U.S. if they have used any forms of welfare in the past, such as food stamps or other taxpayer-funded housing programs. The rule, announced by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services in August, defines a “public charge” as an immigrant who received one or more designated benefits for more than 12 months within a 36-month period. The 5-4 split vote divided the court’s conservatives and liberals, and Sotomayor took a take a cheap shot at her conservative colleagues. She wrote in her dissent, “It is hard to say what is more troubling: that the Government would seek this extraordinary relief seemingly as a matter of course, or that the Court would grant it.”...

{ dailycaller.com } ~ Vermont Sen. commie-Bernie Sanders is proving House Speaker liar-Nancy Pelosi wrong... liar-Pelosi has repeatedly tried to distinguish the Democratic Party mainstream from the party’s socialist wing. liar-Pelosi told a college student at a January 2017 town hall that Democrats “are capitalists” rather than socialists. When a CBS News reporter asked liar-Pelosi in June 2018 if socialism is “ascendant” in the party, she  answered: “No.” “I do reject socialism as an economic system. If people have that view, that’s their view,” liar-Pelosi told “60 Minutes” in April 2019. “That is not the view of the Democratic Party,” she added. But the socialist senator’s presidential campaign is demonstrating otherwise. commie-Sanders won two of the first three Democratic presidential contests — including an easy win in Saturday’s Nevada caucuses — and is the party’s clear frontrunner in national primary polls. The RealClearPolitics  polling average has commie-Sanders running 12 points ahead of the next closest candidate, former Vice President loose lips liar-Joe Biden. A Morning Consult poll of Democratic primary voters Sunday found commie-Sanders’s lead over his primary rivals is only continuing to grow.  commie-Sanders’s surge is consistent with polls showing that Democratic voters will choose socialism over capitalism when given the choice...  https://dailycaller.com/2020/02/24/bernie-sanders-nancy-pelosi-socialism/?utm_source=&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=12040

CAIR: Councilman who said Muslims

by wnd.com ~ The Hamas-linked Council on American-Islamic Relations is calling on an Indiana councilman to step down... after he shared on Facebook a post that said Muslims should obey U.S. law.  Roger Stewart, a member of the Kokomo Common Council, was elected last week by the Howard County Republican Party, the Associated Press reported. He replaced Greg Jones, who resigned Jan. 17, after Facebook posts from 2015 deemed "Islamophobic" were spotlighted. Stewart, last February, shared a Trump supporter's post on his private Facebook account that said: "I refuse to bend, twist or change to make Muslims feel comfortable in MY COUNTRY. They either adhere to our laws or leave! THIS IS MY COUNTRY! Understood???" He also shared a post with a photo of Muslim Rep. worthless-Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., saying anyone who took the oath of office on a Quran is a traitor. The AP reported Stewart said Tuesday that he was "incredibly sorry" if he had "shared something offensive to anyone." But he refused to resign. "I am an imperfect Christian who is also a proud American," Stewart said in a statement to the Kokomo Tribune. "I served our United States proudly as an Army veteran. I take full responsibility for my shared post. These views do not represent my colleagues, friends, or family." CAIR's national spokesman, Ibrahim Hooper said, "Just as we called for the resignation of the previous Islamophobic official Jones, we urge Mr. Stewart to resign from his post and for a person who understands constitutionally guaranteed religious freedoms to be appointed in his place." Stewart told the Kokomo Tribune he believes Islamic law directly conflicts with U.S. constitutional law. CAIR was an unindicted co-conspirator in a scheme to raise funds for Hamas, a designated terrorist organization. And CAIR itself, which was founded by Hamas operatives in the United States, has been designated a terrorist organization by the United Arab Emirates. Robert Spencer, director of Jihad Watch and a prolific author on the global threat of Islamic supremacism, didn't see a problem with the Facebook post Stewart shared, arguing "no one who doesn't intend to obey U.S. laws should be here." Regarding the Quran, he pointed out it "calls for warfare against and the subjugation of unbelievers, second-class status for women, hatred of Jews, and more."... CAIR must go.

Ninth Circuit Court Rules Trump Admin
Stripping Funding From Abortion
Clinics Is Constitutional

{ dailycaller.com } ~ The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled Monday that the Trump administration can continue stripping federal funding from clinics that offer abortions... The court upheld the Trump administration’s June 2019 declaration that taxpayer-funded clinics must stop referring women for abortions or be stripped of their Title X funding. Judge Sandra Ikuta wrote Monday’s majority opinion, stating that “there is no ‘gag’ on nondirective abortion counseling.” The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) followed the decision in June by alerting clinics that it would enforce the administration’s ban. Planned Parenthood withdrew from the Title X federal family planning program, thereby forgoing about $60 million a year, in August 2019 rather than comply with this decision. The rules, which advance President Donald Trump’s promise to stop funding businesses that perform abortions, require that organizations that perform  abortions and make abortion referrals will have to do so in separate buildings from those that receive Title X federal funds. “Today’s ruling is a vindication of President Trump’s pro-life policies and a victory for the American people,” Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser said in a statement, adding that abortion is not family planning and that “a strong majority of Americans” oppose taxpayer-funded abortions.  “President Trump’s Protect Life Rule honors their will and the plain language of the Title X statute by stopping the funneling of Title X taxpayer dollars to the abortion industry, without reducing family planning funding by a dime,” Dannenfelser added. “We thank President Trump and HHS Secretary Alex Azar for their strong pro-life leadership and look forward to the end of further frivolous litigation by the abortion lobby.”...

{ americanthinker.com } ~ On March 12, 1938, Germany invaded Austria. Recognizing that war with the Third Reich was now probable and anticipating bombing raids on London... Admiral Hugh Sinclair, head of the Government Code and Cipher School (GCCS), set out to find property outside the city where the agency could relocate. Unable to get funding from the government, Sinclair purchased with his own money Bletchley Park in Buckinghamshire. This would be the site of the most spectacular cryptographic breakthroughs in history, made possible in part by the engineering of the world’s first programmable electronic digital computer. In September of 1938, Neville Chamberlain returned from Munich to announce that he had achieved “peace in our time.” Alexander Denniston, operational head of GCCS, was skeptical. Deinniston, who had led the team that decrypted the Zimmermann Telegram, set out to recruit prospective cryptologists. He dined at the high tables of most of the Oxford and Cambridge colleges and identified the most brilliant and creative problem-solvers among the young dons and students. GCCS sleuths were mostly former scholars in the humanities, but Denniston recruited mathematicians, linguists, engineers, and others. Some were keen chess players; several were accomplished musicians. Many were eccentric. There seemed to be a correlation The story of Bletchley Park has often been told, sometimes as in the films Enigma and The Imitation Game with a great deal of creative license. German ciphers were encrypted by the Enigma machine. This electromagnetic device used as many as 8 rotors to encode and decode German text. The settings were changed daily at midnight. Using a model of the machine build by the Polish Cypher Bureau and smuggled out of the country, Alan Turing’s team first broke a code in January 1940. But the operation was enormously time consuming. Even a 3-rotor Enigma could produce nearly 159 quintillion (million million million) different settings. A new machine had to be created to accelerate the process. The first device was the electromechanical “bombe,” the second, the famous Colossus, the first digital computer, operational in February 1944. Ultra, the intelligence generated by Bletchley Park, was invaluable in winning the war. Without it, the conflict might have claimed hundreds of thousands of additional lives and ended with the dropping of an atomic bomb on Berlin, or with the meeting of Soviet and American troops on the Rhine. Historians have argued for worse outcomes, including the failure of the Normandy invasion. Ultra was always credited to human agents. “By Jove, you must have some very brave chaps,” Stewart Menzies, head of M16, was told...  https://www.americanthinker.com/articles/2020/02/a_trumpian_proposal_to_conquer_cancer.html

{ tommclaughlin.blogspot.com } ~ “How were you affected by the 1918 Swine Flu epidemic?”

After returning to the classroom in 1979 to teach history, one of the first assignments I gave was for students to find someone 70 years old or older and ask a series of questions. Interview subjects would have been born in 1909 or earlier and, if they lived in New England, would almost certainly have known people who died in that plague. Its American epicenter was Fort Devens in central Massachusetts.
Army_Cantonment_at_Devens.jpg
It was called "Camp Devens" then.
About 850 soldiers died there in 1918 after it spread from Commonwealth Pier in Boston where the first recorded outbreak seems to have occurred according to the New England Historical Society. The American version of the epidemic eventually killed 675,000 Americans and perhaps 100 million worldwide. Even more surprising was that the most vulnerable demographic was young adults — about 10% died globally.

The 1918 virus seems to have been the worst plague in history.

In last week’s column "Between Now and November" on the presidential campaign I added a paragraph at the end about what might threaten President Trump’s biggest advantage — our strong economy. I suggested the Corona Virus, now called Covid19, might be that threat. After only a week, it’s virtually certain. At this writing (Monday midday), the stock market and bond market are both crashing. Traveling in India, President Trump claimed the virus is a short-term problem that won’t have a lasting effect on the world economy. “I think it’s a problem that’s going to go away,” he said — this according to zerohedge.com which has become my go-to site on the virus.

Trump has said a lot of stupid things, but I believe that statement will come back to haunt him.

Epidemiologists have more questions than answers about this newest plague and that’s because China, where it originated, is a closed society with a government which controls information. It’s lying about what has been going on. Did Covid19 originate when Chinese gourmets ate bat soup as some suggest? Or, did it escape from a bioweapons lab in Wuhan as others suggest? We don’t know.

People exposed to the virus have been quarantined for 14 days to see if they show symptoms, but reports the past few days indicate that quarantine should be extended because some victims have gone 27 days before symptoms manifest. Can the virus be contained? Doubts are rising as fast as the virus is spreading — at lightening speed. Today (Monday mid afternoon) the World Health Organization is announcing that the virus is not yet pandemic — but we all kind of know it is, right? Said WHO director-general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus today: “Does this virus have pandemic potential? Absolutely. Are we there yet? From our assessment not yet.”
images-2.jpegSouth Korean at Jerusalem's Wailing Wall
How soon will it affect us here in America? Yesterday I read a report that South Korean Catholics who were visiting crowded holy sites in Israel returned home and tested positive for the virus. Israel then announced it would ban South Korean tourists. I texted the article to my sister and brother-in-law who were on tour visiting those crowded holy sites in Israel and they hadn’t heard anything about it. Then I waited to hear if they were allowed to board their flight from Tel Aviv to Newark, NJ. They told me tourists with whom they were traveling were going on to Jordan and were subjected to health checks at the border. This morning I learned they landed in Newark and were awaiting a flight to Boston.
unnamed-1.jpg
Yeah, it’s affecting us here and it’s only the beginning.

China’s economy is tanking. Car sales have dropped 92% for February. As of February 13, China has virtually stopped importing crude oil. Tankers are backed up offshore. Since China makes so many products we buy including iPhones, we’re bound to be strongly affected here in America. The supply chain of vital components for products manufactured here in the USA will be slowing down and cut off as well. Japan may cancel the Olympics scheduled this summer. The Epoch Times this morning (Tuesday) quoted Senate Finance Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley:“80 percent of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients are produced abroad, the majority in China and India.”
maxresdefault.jpg
We know, even if Trump doesn’t, there will be economic turmoil worldwide, but we don’t know yet how many of us will die. We in the USA and Europe are better equipped to treat people than third-world countries in Africa so our survivability rate is likely to be better. It seems that a percentage of those who become infected will die, but what is that percentage? We just don’t know because the Chinese Communist Party controls the flow of vital information on Covid19 and spins it for its own political purposes.
images-3.jpeg
Eventually I had to drop the Swine Flu question from the elderly interviews as those old enough to remember it died off. We can only hope Covid19 doesn’t kill as many of us as that plague did a century ago. It’s likely we will know by summer.
