{ thehill.com } ~ The Department of Justice reportedly said in a court filing just hours after the Senate voted against subpoenaing additional witnesses and documents in President Trump's impeachment trial... that it has two dozen emails related to his involvement in the halt of U.S. military aid to Ukraine. An Office of Management and Budget (OMB) lawyer said in the filing that the emails are protected by “presidential privilege,” The Washington Post reported. “Specifically, the documents in this category are emails that reflect communications by either the President, the Vice President, or the President’s immediate advisors regarding Presidential decision-making about the scope, duration, and purpose of the hold on military assistance to Ukraine,” the OMB lawyer said in arguing that the emails should remain redacted. The Center for Public Integrity received a heavily redacted version of the emails in December through a Freedom of Information Act request, according to the Post, which added that the judge in the case wanted an outline of what information is in the emails and why they were redacted. CNN noted that the filing is the administration's first acknowledgement that there are emails related to Trump's thinking about the aid freeze, which is central to Democrats' impeachment effort. Senate Democrats have argued that the White House has refused to hand over documentation that would shed further light on the decision making behind the aid freeze and whether it was linked to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky publicly announcing an investigation into former Vice President loose lips liar-Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden. Democrats' hopes of obtaining the documents were dashed on Friday, however, when senators voted not to seek witnesses and the documentation in a 51 to 49 vote. The Senate minority needed four GOP senators to break ranks and vote in favor of the measure, but in the end, only two Republicans did: Sens. rino-Mitt Romney (Utah) and rino-Susan Collins (Maine).   https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/481056-justice-department-reveals-blocking-24-emails-in-court-filing-about

{ jpost.com } ~ The Israel Navy has thwarted an attempt to smuggle weapons into the Gaza Strip from the northern area of the Sinai Peninsula... the military cleared for publication on Tuesday. The joint operation with the Shin Bet Israel Security Agency took place three months ago. Troops from the 916th Flotilla based in Ashdod intercepted a vessel suspected to be smuggling weapons into the blockaded Palestinian coastal enclave.  The two Palestinians aboard the vessel were detained for interrogation. During the investigation, the two revealed that the weapons were intended to be used by Hamas’s naval commando unit.“The foiling of such smuggling attempts helps prevent the continued arming of the Hamas terrorist organization in the Gaza Strip and directly damages the capabilities of the group’s naval commando unit,” the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit said in a statement. “The Navy works to monitor and stop terrorist activities and smuggling in early stages to prevent the strengthening of terrorist groups in the Gaza Strip by sea.” During Operation Protective Edge in 2014, five Hamas frogmen naval commandos tried to infiltrate Kibbutz Zikim before they were engaged and killed by the IDF. Since the conflict, Hamas has significantly expanded its naval commando unit with a reported 1,500 frogmen.  While weapons smuggling into the blockaded enclave from Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula has decreased over the years, in 2016, the Navy intercepted a Palestinian fishing vessel returning from the Sinai to the southern Gaza Strip weighed down by weapons. It was the third ship intercepted by the Navy and Shin Bet in a year and half. At the time, Ynet News reported that the Shin Bet said it had identified a pattern by Hamas to smuggle goods from the restive peninsula into the Strip to sell and finance the organization...   https://www.jpost.com/Arab-Israeli-Conflict/Navy-Shin-Bet-thwart-attempted-weapons-smuggling-into-Gaza-from-Sinai-616461
'Whistleblower' Eric Ciaramella

by wnd.com ~ Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., on Tuesday dropped a bombshell on the Senate floor, reading the name of the "anti-Trump CIA operative" believed to be the "whistleblower"... who filed the complaint that triggered impeachment, Eric Ciaramella.  During his remarks in the Senate impeachment trial, Paul read the question he submitted last week that was rejected by Chief Justice John Roberts. Ciaramella's name is in the question, but Paul didn't say he was the whistleblower. In any case, Paul and other colleagues have argued the Intelligence Community Whistleblower Protection Act of 1998 requires only that the inspector general not disclose the whistleblower's name. It does not stop a member of Congress, the president or anyone else from identifying a whistleblower. Paul's question was: "Are you aware that House intelligence committee staffer Shawn Misko had a close relationship with Eric Ciaramella while at the National Security Council together, and are you aware and how do you respond to reports that Ciaramella and Misko may have worked together to plot impeaching the President before there were formal house impeachment proceedings?" Paul on Tuesday criticized "overzealous" protections for whistleblowers, arguing the American public needs to know of political bias that might influence the actions of intelligence agencies and secret courts, the Gateway Pundit reported. "By having such overzealous protections we don't get to the root of how with happened," he said. "This could happen again." He warned that biased employees could "game the system to go after you." Americans should be concerned, she said, that under the scumbag/liar-nObama administration federal agents listened to telephone calls and read text messages. He said intel agencies should be banned from going after political campaigns. "We need to change the rules. We cannot have secret courts trying to change the elections," he said. After Roberts refused to read Paul's question, the Kentucky senator posted it on Twitter. Investigative reporter Paul Sperry has reported it's an open secret in Washington that that the whistleblower is Ciaramella. Lawyers for the whistleblower have not made an outright denial that their client is Ciaramella...   https://www.wnd.com/2020/02/bombshell-whistleblower-eric-ciaramella-publicly-named-senate-floor/?utm_source=Email&utm_medium=wnd-breaking&utm_campaign=breaking&utm_content=breaking

{ spectator.org } ~ To understand how an epidemic, and then a pandemic, can happen, one must understand human nature. People have selfish impulses and crude drives... It’s important to understand that even decent people will do distressingly bad things for reasons even they don’t understand. They will be stupid. They will be careless about or ignorant of how illness spreads. They will be vectors for a virus or bacteria and spread the sickness unintentionally. We know this happens because of how easily the flu spreads now. Commonsense behavior could prevent the spread of colds and influenza, yet the United States had 69,000 people die from the flu in the 2017–18 season alone. That number has been revised down from 80,000 people. Governments are made up of people with diverse motivations and people who often behave illogically. There are stories that Chinese government authorities punished doctors who warned of another SARS-like virus for “spreading rumors.” Still other rumors are rampant that the real number of sick Chinese people is far greater than the nearly 20,000 currently reported. A study in the health journal The Lancet extrapolates around 75,000 infected. No one knows for sure. If either story is true, human error or malevolence has already contributed to the spread of this new disease. Whatever the reason for the virus’ spread, it has proved itself extremely difficult to contain. This much is known: a person can be asymptomatic and pass the virus to someone before the first symptoms appear. Distressingly, after the virus passes, the person’s viral load is dramatically high, and the recovering person can spread the virus further. Now we know that the virus can live on surfaces like doorknobs. For more on that, read the CDC transcript about testing and transmission here https://gisanddata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/opsdashboard/index.html#/bda7594740fd40299423467b48e9ecf6 )  All coronaviruses constantly mutate a couple strains of the common cold are coronaviruses, and so any extrapolation is theoretical. Here is a good explainer: If one assumes that this new coronavirus will spread and that people are stupid about preventing it, what can one do to protect oneself? This is an important question whether the new virus spreads or not. The influenza bugs are here, and so are the incurable common cold plus myriad other sicknesses. These recommendations will be useful for all of the above...  https://spectator.org/avoiding-the-corona-virus/?utm_source=American%20Spectator%20Emails&utm_campaign=23a4dc4fb0-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2020_02_04_02_45&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_797a38d487-23a4dc4fb0-104608113

Why the Left Really Wants to Kill America
By John Eidson
{ americanthinker.com } ~ The century-long attempt to kill capitalism in America gained a dramatic head of steam in the 1960s with the rapid ascendency of progressivism, a Marxist movement that would quietly seize control of the Democratic Party over the last half-century... Which was something different. For most of America’s 244-year history, the dominant political parties that evolved had a common goal constantly working to improve the country they both loved. In the 1860s, a Republican president went to war to end slavery. A century later, a Democratic president launched another well-intentioned war, a war on poverty. Democrats and Republicans alike largely saw their country as a force for good, both at home and abroad. Beginning in the 1960s, that widely- shared view began to show cracks as the progressive movement began tightening its grip on the modern Democratic Party. Democrat icons of the 1960s -- Adlai Stevenson, Henry “Scoop” Jackson, Sam Nunn, Hubert Humphrey and JFK, to name a few -- were genuine patriots who loved their country, a sentiment that was shared by a large majority of that era’s rank and file Democrats. Such is no longer the case. Here are four ways Democrats are looking to end the idea of America altogether: Killing America by replacing patriotism with socialism - In October 2018, The New York Times reported that 69% of progressive Democrats  are ashamed of being American. Increasingly influenced by the progressive wing of their party, Democrats as a whole have moved sharply away from that love of country, and veered toward socialism that sounded like communism: In February 2019, Public Opinion Strategies found that an astounding 77% of Democrats who plan to vote in 2020 self-identify as socialists. Aided and abetted by the complicit mainstream media, the modern Democratic Party has been remarkably successful at driving down patriotism: Gallup  found that less than a third of Democrats are extremely proud of their country. That's less than a third, and trending sharply downward. Killing America by making citizenship meaningless - Why has the modern Democratic Party worked so diligently to erode patriotism? Because love of country is a major impediment to convincing voters to support what they really want, which is yielding their nation’s sovereignty to an international governing body, ultimately the United Nations. With patriotism marginalized, a society’s populace can more easily be led to no longer see themselves as citizens of their country, but as “citizens of the world.” In his July 2008 speech in Berlin, progressive presidential candidate Barack scumbag/liar-nObama told an adoring crowd of 200,000 cheering Europeans, “I come to you as a Citizen of the World.” In Europe, the long-standing national identity of every progressive-run nation is already being intentionally erased, and it stands as a sort of bellwether of things to come over here. Government-encouraged mass migration is its instrument, and the same thing is being attempted in America by the modern Democratic Party. This particular phenomenon is particularly associated with billionaire globalist scumbag-George Soros. The Hungarian-born "stateless statesman" is the most prolific financier of the progressive push for a world without borders...

Does Trump Impeachment Trial Need Witnesses?

It seems all but certain that the Senate will acquit President Trump on both articles of impeachment adopted by House Democrats. First, however, senators are expected to decide Friday whether they need additional witness testimony.

Trump’s opponents claim that unless witnesses are called, the entire impeachment trial will have been a sham. This is consistent with what they’ve argued all along: any process Democrats control is fair; any process Democrats don’t control is a cover-up.

In the Democratic-controlled House, for example, Democrats said it was fair to let Democrats on the Intelligence and Judiciary Committees issue subpoenas unilaterally, while requiring Republicans to get Democrats’ permission.

The Democrats also said it was fair for House Judiciary Committee Chairman scumbag liar-Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y., to deny Trump’s side the chance to call or question witnesses in the House impeachment inquiry — unless Trump first agreed to make available all witnesses Nadler demanded.

Then there was the failed attempt by House Speaker liar-Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., to hold the House impeachment articles hostage until the Senate promised to run Trump’s trial the way she wanted.

Now Democrats and their liberal allies are claiming that the trial cannot be fair and the truth simply cannot be found unless the Senate hears from certain witnesses who did not testify in the House.

Do you see a pattern here? The Democrats’ impeachment strategy is simple: heads Democrats win, tails Trump loses.

In deciding whether additional witnesses are necessary, senators should consider several factors.

First, senators already have a mountain of evidence to consider. They have, for example, the entire House impeachment record, totaling nearly 30,000 pages. Additionally, the two sides have filed hundreds of pages of trial briefs, memoranda and appendices.

For the last six days, senators have heard attorneys from both sides present their cases — repeatedly making the same claims in what some might consider rhetorical waterboarding. Those attorneys have also answered many questions from senators.

Second, everyone knows what the House impeachment managers are up to with their demand for witnesses. Additional witness testimony would be only the beginning — not the end — of their gambit.

If House Intelligence Committee Chairman scumbag/liar-Adam Schiff, D-Calif., and his team get to depose even one more witness, they would poke and probe every nook and cranny, looking to pry open anything that they can claim requires additional witnesses and documents.

The Democrats would demand to know every person the witness spoke to about these matters, and create inconsistencies where none exist to undermine the credibility of anyone who does not further the impeachment narrative.

Third, House Democrats have already declared that these witnesses were not necessary for their impeachment case. In the impeachment process, as in life, actions speak louder than words.

When the Trump administration prevented some House-subpoenaed witnesses from testifying, what did the House do?

If the House genuinely needed the testimony, the obvious next step would have been to seek enforcement of the subpoenas by a court. Not only did the House not do that — in one instance it did the exact opposite. When one individual asked a federal judge if he had to comply with a subpoena, the House withdrew it.

Finally, senators should remember that while an impeachment trial may resemble a criminal trial, it is profoundly different.

When it suits them, Trump’s opponents are quick to quote Alexander Hamilton from his observation that impeachable offenses violate “the public trust” and are “political.”

But now, with decisions about witnesses and other evidence to be made, the Democrats have flipped, arguing as if the Senate must obey the Federal Rules of Evidence. They claim that additional testimonial evidence must be considered and that the parties must be allowed to introduce any evidence that they claim is necessary for a fair trial.

The Democrats can’t have it both ways.

The Senate is not sitting as a committee of investigation, but as a court of impeachment. Its constitutional job is not to complete an investigation that the House now complains was incomplete due to its own rush to impeach the president.

The single task of senators is to determine if the House has proven its case and to decide whether they should remove the president from office now—or wait and let the American people make that decision when they vote in the November election.

Ours is not a parliamentary system, and impeachment cannot be used as a “no-confidence” vote to remove a president when members of Congress dislike him and his policies.

While America’s founders included the impeachment process in the Constitution, they opposed using it in a way that, as James Madison put it, would mandate that the president serve only at the pleasure of the Senate.

Senators should prevent that from happening now.   ~The Patriot Post
