{ foxnews.com } ~ One day after President Trump declared the California wildfires a "major disaster,"... the U.S. military said it's preparing to deploy hundreds of active-duty soldiers with engineering specialties to combat the blazes, Fox News has learned. Roughly 200 active-duty U.S. Army soldiers from Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington state will ship out in the coming days, according to two defense officials. The unit will ship out after training to combat fires this week, one official said. The soldiers are from the 14th Brigade Engineer Battalion of the 2nd Infantry Division. The combat engineers specialize in demolition and construction, normally as used in combat operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, where the unit has deployed over the past decade. It's not immediately clear where the soldiers will be deployed. The troops will join crews flying four active-duty Air Force C-130 cargo planes flying over California to drop water and fire retardant liquids. California national guard units are also battling the blazes...

Base Medicare premiums on lifetime earnings

{ aei.org } ~ Since 2003, Congress has tried to lower the cost burden of Medicare by requiring beneficiaries with high incomes in retirement to pay higher premiums for their coverage... Requiring beneficiaries who can pay more to do so is certainly a sensible and necessary step toward making the program more affordable for taxpayers. But the current method of assessing ability to pay based on the retirement incomes of Medicare beneficiaries is faulty. It would be far better, in terms of both fairness and economic efficiency, to base Medicare’s income-related premiums on workers’ lifetime earnings. In its current form, the Medicare program is a principal cause of the nation’s deteriorating fiscal outlook. Total spending on Medicare will reach $714 billion this year second only to Social Security, and grow to more than $1.5 trillion by 2028, according to the Congressional Budget Office. Under these circumstances, there is little choice but to require higher premiums from those beneficiaries with the means to pay them. Many retirees assume they have already fully paid for their Medicare coverage through payroll taxes. But the Medicare payroll tax only covers the cost of Part A of the program, which pays for inpatient hospital services and the care provided in other institutionalized settings. Parts B and D of Medicare, which cover physician and outpatient services and for prescription drugs, respectively, tap into the general fund of the Treasury for most of their costs. In other words, taxpayers subsidize these parts of Medicare with their income tax payments...Medicare for all is out of the question.   http://www.aei.org/publication/base-medicare-premiums-on-lifetime-earnings/?mkt_tok=eyJpIjoiTlRBeVlXWTNORFZtWVdOaSIsInQiOiJVR1wvTkszTk9tSFA4TXFCd3Z3RGJ4ZUdPSWFhNkZGUEFrWklTeVcwZ3lCclEraWx6Qm0xY21BM0p4SllseEphSmV6aGZDNXZRQzk2RmpGVzYxTmU3bGdQYkNPNEhTeno3SVA3MDBIeGdERE5GaWlcL0taazd6azJ0dVl6bGNrclRIIn0%3D

UK: Discrimination against Christian Refugees

{ gatestoneinstitute.org } ~ The British government appears recently to have decided that it would like to give the impression that it cares about persecuted Christians... Prime Minister Theresa May said in Parliament on July 18: "As a Government we stand with persecuted Christians all over the world and will continue to support them. It is hard to comprehend that today we still see people being attacked and murdered because of their Christianity, but we must reaffirm our determination to stand up for the freedom of people of all religions and beliefs and for them to be able to practise their beliefs in peace and security." The British Government even recently appointed its first Special Envoy on Freedom of Religion or Belief with Lord Tariq Ahmad of Wimbledon, a former minister, filling the post. According to the government, the role "will promote the UK's firm stance on religious tolerance abroad, helping to tackle religious discrimination in countries where minority faith groups face persecution". Prime Minister May said she looked "forward to supporting Lord Ahmad in this new role as he works with faith groups and governments across the world to raise understanding of religious persecution and what we can do to eliminate it."...

Russian meddling in 2016? Leftist icon blames Israel

{ wnd.com } ~ Leftist linguista Noam Chomsky thinks far too much is being made of Russian interference in the 2016 election – and not nearly enough about meddling by another foreign state... Whom does the fiery 90-year-old atheist, socialist professor emeritus at Massachusetts Institute of Technology blame? Well, the Jews … Jerusalem … Israel. “First of all, if you’re interested in foreign interference in our elections, whatever the Russians may have done barely counts or weighs in the balance as compared with what another state does, openly, brazenly and with enormous support,” he told the Democracy Now TV program. Chomsky told the program aired on NPR, PBS, Pacifica Radio and some satellite channels the media’s infatuation with supposed Russian interference in the election is “almost a joke.”   https://www.wnd.com/2018/08/russian-meddling-in-2016-leftist-icon-blames-israel/

Summertime Blues for the Left
by Brian C. Joondeph

{ americanthinker.com } ~ Dog days of summer doesn’t actually have anything to do with dogs, instead the expression refers to the time when the dog star Sirius rises just before the sun, in late July... And we are currently in the dog days of summer. Temperatures are hot most places in the Northern Hemisphere, as they usually are this time of year. The left has conveniently dropped “climate change” for the moment in favor of more temperature appropriate “global warming” to explain the inexplicable fact that it’s hot in the summer. Freezing temperatures in a few months will shift the blame back to the more appropriate term for cold weather, “climate change”. Watching the news this summer reminds me of a 1950s song by Eddie Cochran, “Summertime Blues”. News readers at CNN and MSNBC are fit to be tied saying to themselves, “I'm gonna raise a fuss, I'm gonna raise a holler”. scumbag-Jim Acosta, the smug drama queen from CNN, had his backside handed to him bigly by White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders a few days ago when he whined about President Trump supposedly calling the media “the enemy of the people”. Oblivious about the abuse Sarah endures on a daily basis, spurred on by CNN rhetoric, scumbag-Acosta tried to make this about him, as if the sole purpose of the White House media arm is to give Jim a platform to bark out his ignorance...   https://www.americanthinker.com/articles/2018/08/summertime_blues_for_the_left.html

The liar-Clinton Campaign Sought Dirt on Trump From Russian Officials. Where's the Outrage?

by Marc A. Thiessen

All of Washington is waiting with bated breath to find out whether the Mueller investigation will provide evidence proving that the Trump campaign colluded with Russia. So far, “Exhibit A” against President Trump is the meeting Donald Trump Jr., Jared Kushner and Paul Manafort had with a group of Russians claiming to have dirt on liar-Hillary Clinton. That meeting should never have happened. When you get an email offering to provide “very high level and sensitive information” from the “Crown prosecutor of Russia” that could “incriminate liar-Hillary” Clinton and is part of “Russia and its government’s support for Mr. Trump” you don’t reply by saying “I love it.” You call the FBI.
The president claims he did not know about the meeting. His former lawyer, Michael Cohen, says he did. Whether he knew is beside the point. Senior officials of his campaign were willing to accept help from Vladimir Putin; they were saved only because the meeting was a bust. The Russians didn’t end up providing any dirt.
But as bad as the Trump Tower meeting was, it took place at the request of the Russians. They were the ones who approached the Trump campaign, not the other way around.
By contrast, the liar-Clinton campaign proactively sought dirt on Trump from Russian government sources. They did it through cutouts. In April 2016, liar-Clinton campaign lawyer Marc Elias retained opposition research firm Fusion GPS to compile incriminating information on Trump. Fusion GPS in turn hired Christopher Steele, a former British MI6 operative with sources among Russian government officials. The result was the salacious dossier, whose sources included “a senior Russian Foreign Ministry figure” and “a former top level intelligence officer still active in the Kremlin.” Steele’s work was paid for by liar-Clinton’s presidential campaign and the dummycrats-Democratic National Committee. That means a paid agent of the liar-Clinton campaign approached Russian officials for damaging material on Trump.
liar-Clinton claims she did not know about Steele’s work. It doesn’t matter. Imagine if Michael Cohen, or another lawyer paid by the Trump campaign and Republican National Committee, had hired a former British spy with campaign money to collect dirt on liar-Clinton from Russian intelligence and foreign ministry officials. Do you think that everyone in Washington would be saying: “There’s no evidence Trump knew, so no big deal — nothing to see here?” Of course not.
Moreover, liar-Clinton officials have defended Steele’s actions. Brian Fallon, liar-Clinton’s campaign spokesman, has said he “would have volunteered to go to Europe and try to help” Steele and would happily have spread dirt obtained from the Russians. “Opposition research happens on every campaign,” he told The Post. He also said: “I am damn glad [Elias] pursued this on behalf of our campaign and only regret more of this material was not verified in time for the voters to learn it before the election.”
In other words, “I love it.” We also know that the dummycrats-Democrats covered up their involvement. The dossier was published by BuzzFeed in January, but it was not until Oct. 24, 2017 — more than nine months later — that Americans learned it was the dummycrats-DNC and the liar-Clinton campaign that paid for it. If it did nothing wrong, why did Team liar-Clinton leave Americans in the dark about its involvement for so long?
Let’s be clear: None of this excuses the Trump campaign’s reprehensible behavior in accepting a meeting with Russians claiming to be government agents offering dirt on liar-Clinton. Mueller’s investigation is not a witch hunt. If Mueller finds that anyone on the Trump campaign entered into a criminal conspiracy with Russia, they should go to jail.
Furthermore, none of this calls into question the intelligence community’s assessment that the Russians wanted Trump to win — something Putin publicly confirmed in his Helsinki news conference with Trump. But the intelligence community assessment also found that the Kremlin expected liar-Clinton to win. The Russians are not stupid. They were preparing for the prospect of a liar-Clinton presidency, and they played both sides. That’s why millions of dollars in Russian cash were sloshing aroundliar-Clinton World — including $500,000 liar-Bill Clinton received for a Moscow speech from a Russian investment bank with links to the Kremlin.
Russia continues to pose a threat. Their goal, according to our intelligence community, was not just to help Trump but also to “undermine public faith in the US democratic process.” They are playing a long game. If we are to counter the Russian threat, we need to understand its complexities — and that means we have to look beyond Trump.
