The showdown sets up a potential presidential veto if the measure clears both chambers. The so-called Green New Deal may tally between $51 trillion and $93 trillion over 10-years, concludes the center-right policy American Action Forum, which is run by Douglas Holtz-Eakin, who directed the non-partisan CBO from from 2003 to 2005. That includes between $8.3 trillion and $12.3 trillion to meet the plan’s call to eliminate carbon emissions from the power and transportation sectors and between $42.8 trillion and $80.6 trillion for its economic agenda including providing jobs and health care for all.” (Fortune)

Judicial clampdown: “The Supreme Court answered a question Monday that, surprisingly, hasn’t been resolved before: If a judge dies after voting on a case but before the decision is announced, does the judge’s vote count? The liberal lion of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, Stephen Reinhardt, died March 29, 2018, but his vote was counted in a decision that came out shortly afterward. … But the Supreme Court said Monday it’s ‘generally understood that a judge may change his or her position up to the very moment when a decision is released.’ In order for a vote to count, a judge must be actively serving on the court when a ruling is rendered. Holding otherwise would have ‘allowed a deceased judge to exercise the judicial power of the United States after his death.’” (NBC News)

“On Monday, President Donald Trump announced that he had secured the release of Danny Burch, a U.S. citizen from Texas who was held hostage in Yemen for 18 months. Burch was an employee for the Yemeni Safer oil company when Houthi rebels reportedly abducted him from the capital in broad daylight while dropping his children off at a school event in September 2017, the National Review reports. ‘It is my honor today to announce that Danny Burch, a United States citizen who has been held hostage in Yemen for 18 months, has been recovered and reunited with his wife and children,’ Trump tweeted. ‘I appreciate the support of the United Arab Emirates in bringing Danny home.’” (The Daily Wire)

“A federal judge in Washington state on Monday rejected a challenge to the Trump administration’s ban on so-called bump stocks, the device used to kill 58 people and injure nearly 900 people in Las Vegas in 2017. In a 64-page decision, U.S. District Judge Dabney L. Friedrich said the plaintiffs who brought the challenge failed to prove their case. The ban, issued on Dec. 18 by the Justice Department, is set to go into effect on March 26.” (NBC News)

“India launched an air strike on Pakistan which was targeted at ‘terror camps’ of the Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) group in the town Balakot early Tuesday morning. The overnight raid comes in light of a deadly suicide bombing earlier this month that killed more than 40 Indian soldiers, which the Pakistan-based JeM group claimed responsibility for. The bomber, who made a video before the attack on Feb. 14, was a resident of Indian Kashmir. Pakistan has denied involvement in the attack but has vowed to respond to any Indian military operation against it. After news broke of the air strike on Tuesday morning, anti-India rallies were held in Pakistan, as angry residents burned the Indian flag. The strike is a significant move escalating tensions in an already increasingly violent conflict.” (Fox News)

Senate Democrats Block Bill to Stop Infanticide
and Care for Babies Born Alive After Abortions

{lifenews.com} ~ Senate Democrats today blocked a request by Republicans to vote on a bill that would stop infanticide and provide medical care and treatment for babies who are born alive after botched abortions... The vote to stop the Democrat filibuster needed 60 votes but Democrats stopped the chamber from getting enough. The Senate voted 53-44 against ending the filibuster and allowing a debate and vote on the bill itself. Every Republican present voted to end the filibuster, along with Democrats Joe Manchin, Bob Casey and Doug Jones, while all other Democrats voted agaisnt the bill. Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, who supports abortion, did not vote — hurting the effort to collect the 60 votes necessary. Pro-life Republican Senators Tim Scott and Kevin Cramer were unable to attend the vote due to flight delays but would have voted to support the bill. Every Democrat senator running for president — lowlife-Kamala Harris, scumbag-Cory Booker, Elizabeth dinky-Warren, Kirsten Gillibrand and commie-Bernie Sanders — voted to block the anti-infanticide bill. Druing the debate, several Democrats misled the Senate about the bill and falsely claimed the measure would ban abortions or ban late-term abortions. They made the usual pro-abortion claims that pro-life lawmakers hate women or somehow abortion is women’s health. Senator Ben Sasse of Nebraska grew increasingly frustrated as the debate went on about the false claims abortion advocates made about the anti-infanticide legislation. “I know a lot of opponents of this bill sincerely believe the talking points that they read from their staffs. We’ve heard speech after speech after speech that have nothing to do with what’s actually in this bill,” he said. “I urge my colleagues to picture a baby that’s already been born, that’s outside the womb gasping for air. {thefederalist.com} ~ The far-left Sunrise Movement used a group of children aged 7 to 16 to lobby Sen. Dianne Fein-stein (D-CA) to support the Green New Deal... Did they hope to bully Fein-stein into supporting socialist Rep. commie-Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s delusional wish list, or did they engage in political theater to create a selectively edited video simply designed to make Fein-stein look mean? Here is the short video that went viral Friday on Twitter: The clip leaves the impression that Fein-stein arrogantly dismissed a group of idealistic children who fear they face an apocalyptic, dystopian future unless radical action is taken immediately. The viral video, however, is selectively edited from a 15-minute version that tells a different story. As old-school progressive blogger John Avarosis acknowledges: The incident is nothing more than the cynical use of children as human shields for the adult fanatics and fellow travelers like Pod Save America’s Tommy Vietor. Youth politics are perhaps the dumbest form of identity politics. In general, adults know they know more now than they did when they were children. Adults also know that in the absence of the knowledge and wisdom that comes with age, children invest more in their emotions, and less in rationality. But far-left activists pushing ideas they cannot defend in an adult debate also know it’s “bad optics” to be seen dismissing the young. The Sunrise Movement apparently believed the “bad optics” were the most they could salvage from their visit. Unfortunately for the Sunrise Movement, Fein-stein acquits herself fairly well, even in the unfair version of the video... Party Socialist. He’s Right

{thefederalist.com} ~ A recent New York Times headline warned readers that “Republicans Already Are Demonizing Democrats as Socialists and Baby Killers.”... The article pivots on President Donald Trump’s strategy of portraying Democratic Party leaders as a gaggle of radicalized socialists. Now, Republicans have correctly accused Democrats of taking a hard-left turn when supporting legalization of third-trimester abortions for virtually any reason until the moment of birth and sometimes after. And if you can be demonized for supporting such a position—as almost every Democrat presidential hopeful, all of whom oppose the Pass Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, does—it’s only because you have fully earned it. But judging from the media’s reaction, Democrats are most apprehensive about being portrayed as “socialists,” which one expects isn’t as popular, even theoretically speaking, in suburban areas or Middle America as it is among the blue-check Twitterati and journalists in urban newsrooms. New York magazine’s Jonathan Chait, one of the few left-of-center pundits willing to occasionally criticize Democrats for their collectivist tendencies, recently penned an article headlined, “Trump Calls the Democratic Party Socialist. He’s Lying,” in which he contends that both the leftward lurch of Democrats and the popularity of Sen. commie-Bernie Sanders have been overstated for political reasons. A number of Democrat candidates, he says, have already rejected the word “socialist.”....

Are Current Immigration Numbers Too High?by Political Editors: It’s no secret that conservatives and, more specifically, President Donald Trump’s supporters are fed up with the federal government’s decades’ long lackluster record in preventing and combating illegal immigration. In fact, Trump’s promise to tackle the problem by constructing a border wall played largely in his winning the election, and it has remained a front-and-center political issue as Democrats aim to obstruct Trump.
One immigration issue that has received less coverage: Questions about the nation’s current legal-immigration numbers. In other words, just how many individuals are immigrating to the U.S. each year, and what impact has this had upon the country overall?
In an article in National Review, Steven Camerota of the Center for Immigration Studies highlights what he sees as the most important immigration issue — that question of numbers. He writes, “The reason numbers are by far the most important immigration issue is that all the effects of immigration stem directly from the scale of immigration — cultural, political, social, economic, and fiscal. And the scale of contemporary immigration is truly enormous. The latest data indicate that there are about 45 million legal and illegal immigrants — roughly 34 million of whom are legal. About 1.7 million new legal and illegal immigrants settle in the country each year. The total number of immigrants (legal and illegal) in the country has doubled since 1990, tripled since 1980, and quadrupled since 1970. As a share of the population, about one in seven U.S. residents is now a legal or illegal immigrant — the highest percentage in 107 years. The Census Bureau projects the immigrant share will surpass the highest level ever in American history in eight years if we choose to continue current policy.”
Camerota argues the two biggest areas of impact for immigration are economic and cultural. On economic impact, he points out, “There is no labor shortage when real wages are no higher now than they were in 1978. Sure, unemployment is historically low, yet most people realize this is not the whole story. … At the end of 2018, 54.3 million working-age Americans (ages 16 to 64, excluding prisoners) were out of the labor force entirely. … The overall labor-force participation rate, the share who are working or looking for work, has not changed that much in recent years, especially for Trump voters — native-born people without a college degree.”
Secondly, the growing problem of too many new immigrants has effectively overwhelmed and slowed down the necessary assimilation process into American culture. Camerota points out that most Trump voters “do not think immigrants are bad people. But they do know in many parts of America now, there are so many immigrants that the incentive to learn English or adopt American culture is greatly reduced.”
This is an issue that needs to be honestly and soberly addressed, not simply written off as the nonsense concerns of bigots and racists, as the mainstream media is quick to do. ~The Patriot Post
