Tuesday Top Headline Summary
by Media Editors: “Today, on Presidents Day, we take President Trump to court to block his misuse of presidential power.” So stated California Attorney General Xavier Becerra yesterday during the unveiling of a lawsuit from 16 states that seeks to annul the president’s national-emergency declaration. The judicial system, as expected, is now tasked with ruling for or against the declaration. And though the initial outlook is gloomy, expect the Supreme Court to eventually chime in — with the caveat that it needs to happen before the 2020 presidential election.

According to Bloomberg, “Elizabeth dinky-Warren proposed a universal child care plan that would limit American families’ expenses to 7 percent of income regardless of how many children they have in care — paid for by a tax on the ultra-wealthy.” The scheme “would make child care free for families with incomes below 200 percent of the poverty level, or less than $51,500 for a family of four.” The price tag is reportedly $70 billion annually and is estimated to double child-care attendance. But as with anything taxpayer-funded, this cost is likely woefully underestimated.

According to Gallup, “Thirty-five percent of Americans name the government, poor leadership or politicians as the greatest problem facing the U.S. This is the highest percentage Gallup has recorded for this concern, edging out the previous high of 33% during the 2013 federal government shutdown.” Furthermore, “The current percentage of Americans naming government as the most important problem is nearly twice as high as the 18% recorded in November. That increase likely reflects public frustration with the government shutdown that occurred from late December through most of January.” Not surprisingly, therefore, immigration is No. 2 on the list, with 19% calling it a top problem.

Smaller tax refunds put GOP on defensive, headlines The Hill, which then goes on to report the truth — smaller refunds mean people paid less all year. If only Americans didn’t have to wade through Dezinformatsiya headlines to learn that.

Rep. Matt Gaetz recently revealed that “Democrats in the Judiciary Committee … voted against notifying ICE when an illegal alien fails a background check to buy a gun.” He further observed, “They hate ICE so much that they’d keep ICE in the dark when illegals try to get guns!” As Townhall reports, “Last year a record number of illegal aliens, millions of them, tried to purchase firearms in the United States. Not only is it illegal to enter the United States without permission, it’s also illegal to purchase or possess a gun.” Ironically, Democrats’ demands for gun control is demonstrably confined to lawful citizens.

“A 45-year-old Mexican national detained by U.S. Customs and Border Protection died Monday at a medical facility in McAllen, Tex., after twice seeking medical attention,” The Washington Post reports, adding, “Another death is likely to raise fresh questions for the border control organization … especially as the president crusades for a wall at the southern border.” The under reported issue is that “the unnamed adult was apprehended on Feb. 2 for ‘illegal reentry,’ which means the individual had tried to enter the country at least once before.” Moreover, the individual, who had cirrhosis of the liver and congestive heart failure, was administered health care twice upon request.

If at first you don’t succeed… “Vermont Sen. commie-Bernie Sanders is giving it another go, launching a second campaign for the White House four years after surprising Democrats with a strong bid for the party’s 2016 nomination. … But this 2020 bid will undoubtedly be a very different presidential campaign than his quest for the Democratic nomination as an underdog in 2016. commie-Sanders enters the race as a top contender who, along with former Vice President loose lips-Joe Biden, tops most early polls, far outpacing other Democratic candidates in support and name identification.” (NPR)

Good riddance: “Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein is expected to leave the Justice Department in mid-March. Rosenstein’s departure was largely expected, with last week’s Senate confirmation of President Trump attorney general nominee William Barr. New attorney generals usually have at least some say in selection of deputy attorney general, whose office largely runs the Justice Department on a daily basis.” (Washington Examiner)

“‘Empire’ actor Jussie Smollett, upset after a racist letter sent to the show’s studio didn’t get a ‘bigger reaction,’ is suspected of paying two men to attack him a week later, according to multiple sources with direct knowledge of the investigation,” CBS Chicago reports. “‘When the letter didn’t get enough attention, he concocted the staged attack,’ a source told CBS 2 Investigator Brad Edwards. Other sources corroborated that information.” There are also reports that Smollett scouted the location and rehearsed the attack. Yet Facebook is censoring content exposing the scheme.

WBKO reports, “A Tennessee man is in jail after being accused of pulling a gun on a Sam’s Club customer Saturday.” But why? “According to the alleged victim … a man pulled a gun on him because he was wearing a Make America Great Again (MAGA) hat. … The police report confirms that the suspect, identified as James Phillips, admitted to flipping off Pierce and Pierce’s wife because of their hats.” The mainstream media response? Crickets.

According to a statement the Prime Minister's Office put out following the meeting, security officials told the cabinet that in 2018 the PA paid out NIS 502,697,000 ($140m) to terrorists imprisoned in Israeli jails, their families, and to security prisoners who had been released. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu instructed the security echelon to further investigate the scope of the payments, and as this information is obtained, the sum to be deducted is to be adjusted accordingly. On July 7, the Knesset passed legislation introduced by Avi Dichter (Likud) and Elazar Stern (Yesh Atid) requiring the Defense Ministry to inform the security cabinet of how much the PA pays in “welfare payments to terrorists and their families,” which will then be deducted from the amount Israel transfers to the PA each month. Here’s How They Spend Taxpayer Money

{dailycaller.com} ~ House Democrats ordered the systematic falsification of records showing how they spend their taxpayer-provided office budgets, according to lawyers for two former House information technology (IT) aides... It’s a remarkable accusation that pits sitting lawmakers against the former aides, Imran Awan, his brothers Abid and Jamal, and his wife Hina Alvi. Imran was arrested in July while trying to board a flight to Pakistan, and then indicted on four counts of bank fraud involving moving money to that country. Imran and Hina, who was also indicted, face a court date Friday. One of Imran’s lawyers, Aaron Page, acknowledged the invoicing discrepancy Aug. 21, telling The Daily Caller News Foundation, “This is just how things have been done for forever. This is what experienced members of Congress expect: to expedite things, they adjust the pricing.” If members or senior staff instructed IT aides to misrepresent how budgets were spent, that could potentially explain why officials have not charged the Awans with crimes related to procurement, even a full year after House authorities gathered documentation showing invoices that claimed expensive technological items cost $499 instead of their true price: potentially an open-and-shut violation. “The only reason you’re not seeing charges is because the Democrats who employed him are not cooperating,” a senior Republican congressional official with direct knowledge of the probe told TheDCNF last month. He was initially surprised by seeming recalcitrant to enforce House rules, the official said, and eventually saw it as supporting the idea that members might fear that an investigation into rogue staffers could ultimately implicate members or senior staffers in procurement misconduct...'Hezbollah - the most dangerous

Trump Signs Funding Bill, Declares Emergency
to Secure Borderby Thomas Gallatin: In a Rose Garden ceremony this morning, President Donald Trump signed an omnibus spending deal that includes $1.35 billion for the construction of a border barrier. He also said he’s signed the order declaring a national emergency to tap into as much as another $8 billion in funding for the border barrier. This announcement set off Democrats and some Republicans in voicing their objections.
House Speaker Nancy Pulosi (D-CA) warned, “A Democratic president can declare emergencies, as well. So the precedent that the president is setting here is something that should be met with great unease and dismay by the Republicans.” Pulosi then pointed to one of the Democrats long-running hobby horses and said, “Let’s talk about … the one-year anniversary of another manifestation of the epidemic of gun violence in America. That’s a national emergency. Why don’t you declare that emergency, Mr. President? … But a Democratic president can do that.” Except we have a little thing called the Second Amendment…
Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) voiced constitutional concerns over Trump’s decision, stating, “We have a crisis at our southern border, but no crisis justifies violating the Constitution. Today’s national emergency is border security. But a future president may use this exact tactic to impose the Green New Deal.” But Rubio did note that he would await further details of Trump’s emergency declaration before determining whether he’d support it.
Regarding the subject of national emergencies, it’s important to note that the National Emergencies Act of 1976 was passed primarily as a means of keeping better track of the emergency powers granted to the president and determining which declarations were still in effect. Essentially, the authority to declare a national emergency grants the president special temporary power to deal with a crisis directly related to foreign threats that arise against American interests both domestic and abroad. There are currently 31 active national emergencies, the oldest being Jimmy Carter’s sanctions against the Iranian government.
In declaring a national emergency, Trump can point back to his repeated calls to Congress to act on the growing illegal-immigration crisis that has contributed to the drug-related deaths of tens of thousands of Americans and the murders of many others, costs American taxpayers billions annually in welfare services provided to illegal aliens, and hurts American workers by flooding the labor force with low-skilled illegal workers. Trump has worked to paint Democrats into a corner on this issue, demonstrating that they have no desire to protect American citizens first and foremost, which is their constitutional duty.
Recall that Democrats didn’t voice any objections when Barack scumbag/liar-nObama overreached his executive authority some 76 times, as Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) notes, and yet when Trump seeks to use his rightful executive authority to enforce the nation’s laws, Democrats (and a few Republicans) squeal about constitutional overreach.
While we would certainly have preferred to see Congress act to provide the full funding for the construction of a more secure border barrier and increased border security, Trump’s emergency declaration is well within his constitutional authority. However, there is no question that this battle will soon move to the courts. ~The Patriot Post
