{ washingtonpost.com } ~ Consider the irony: Senate Democrats are hoping that former national security adviser John Bolton — yes, John Bolton... will provide them with the bombshell testimony that brings down President Trump. In other words, they have pinned their hopes on a man they have vilified for years, and whose national security career they sought to destroy. Good luck with that. Democrats want Bolton to take the stand in Trump’s impeachment trial because during the House inquiry National Security Council official Fiona Hill testified that Bolton was “furious” when he learned about a shadow operation in Ukraine, headed by Trump’s personal attorney, Rudolph W. Giuliani, that involved temporarily withholding U.S. military aid and pressing the government to investigate the business dealings of former vice president loose lips liar-Joe Biden’s son Hunter. Hill said Bolton described Giuliani as a “hand grenade,” told her to bring her concerns about the matter to White House lawyers and declared that he didn’t want any part of “whatever drug deal” was afoot in Ukraine. No doubt that is all true. Bolton is a foreign policy professional. But none of this means that Bolton believes Trump committed an impeachable offense. He may very well believe Trump’s decision to withhold lethal aide to Ukraine, and to raise Hunter Biden with Ukraine’s president, was wrong. If so, he’d be correct. But not every bad decision a president makes is impeachable. I’ll bet Bolton considers President Barack scumbag/liar-nObama’s decision to release five senior Taliban leaders from Guantanamo Bay in exchange for U.S. Army deserter Bowe Bergdahl — an act that the Government Accountability Office found was illegal — worse than a “drug deal.” Yet no Democrats called for scumbag/liar-nObama’s impeachment over it. Some have speculated that Bolton may be motivated to testify against Trump because of his acrimonious exit from the White House and his disagreement with some of Trump’s foreign policy decisions. Please. Whatever he thinks of the way Trump treated him, Bolton has been treated far worse by Democrats. Have they forgotten how they tried to ruin his professional reputation and  filibustered his nomination to be U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, forcing President George W. Bush to install him in the post temporarily with a recess appointment? Or how, when Trump appointed Bolton as national security adviser, Democrats excoriated Bolton for being, as Sen. Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.) called him, “a grave danger to the American people"? As for policy disagreements with Trump, I’m sure there are many areas where Bolton does not approve of Trump’s foreign policy. But there are more where he does. Does anyone think Bolton is eager to bring down the president who launched the military strikes that killed Iranian terrorist mastermind Qasem Soleimani — and to do so to help Democrats who openly criticized Trump for launching that strike? Bolton obviously agrees with Trump more than he disagrees, or else he would never have joined his administration...

{ foxnews.com } ~ House Democrats launched into lengthy arguments that broke little ground, if any, in President Trump's  impeachment trial Wednesday... as the head impeachment manager, California Rep. scumbag/liar-Adam Schiff, suggested that Russians could attack the U.S. and insisted that removing Trump from office was necessary because the integrity of the 2020 election could not be "assured." Trump's lawyers sat by, waiting their turn, as the president blasted the proceedings from afar, threatening jokingly to face off with the Democrats by coming to "sit right in the front row and stare at their corrupt faces." The challenge before the House managers has been clear. Democrats were given 24 hours over three days to prosecute the charges against Trump, trying to win over not just fidgety senators sitting silently in the chamber but an American public, deeply divided over the president and his impeachment in an election year. Most senators sat at their desks throughout the day, as the rules stipulated, though some stretched their legs, standing behind the desks or against the back wall of the chamber, passing the time. Visitors watched from the galleries, one briefly interrupting in protest. Almost immediately after Chief Justice John Roberts gaveled in Wednesday's session, bored and weary senators started openly flouting some basic guidelines. Fox News observed that a Democrat in the back row leaned on his right arm, covered his eyes and stayed that way for nearly a half-hour, and some lawmakers openly snickered when scumbag/liar-Schiff said he'd speak for only 10 minutes."I do see the members moving and taking a break," freshman Rep. Jason Crow, D-Colo., one of the House prosecutors, said mid-speech at the center podium. "I probably have another 15 minutes." "You just have to stretch and you just got to stand. Those chairs, they look nice, but they are not comfortable chairs," Sen. Lisa rino-Murkowski, R-Alaska, a key swing-vote moderate, said of the restlessness while scumbag/liar-Schiff spoke. The previous day of the trial lasted for more than 12 hours, and ended well past midnight on a testy note as Roberts admonished both sides for their conduct. On Wednesday, rino-Murkowski slammed Democratic impeachment manager Rep. scumbag liar-Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y., for arguing the previous evening that senators who didn't vote for immediate subpoenas were defying their oaths of office: “As one who is listening attentively and working hard to get to a fair process, I was offended," rino-Murkowski said...   https://www.foxnews.com/politics/trump-senate-impeachment-trial-schiff-russia-attack

{ newsbusters.org } ~ Tuesday evening, Politico published a story revealing House Intelligence Committee Chairman Rep. scumbag/liar-Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) completely “mischaracterized,”... a text message exchange between Rudy Giuliani and his former business associate, Lev Parnas. However, this revelation didn’t make the cut on ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN or MSNBC on Tuesday all the way into Wednesday morning. Politico’s Melanie Zenanona reported that scumbag/liar-Schiff “appears to have mischaracterized a text message exchange” between these “two players in the Ukraine saga.” In a letter scumbag/liar-Schiff sent to House Judiciary Chairman scumbag liar-Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.) last week, he claimed that Parnas “continued to try to arrange a meeting with President Zelensky.” scumbag/liar-Schiff then cites a text message between Parnas and Giuliani talking about “mr. Z” as evidence of that. However the unredacted copy obtained by Politico, reveals that Parnas was clearly referring to the head of Burisma, not Ukrainian President Zelensky: But an unredacted version of the exchange shows that several days later, Parnas sent Giuliani a word document that appears to show notes from an interview with Mykola Zlochevsky, the founder of Burisma, followed by a text message to Giuliani that states: “mr Z answers my brother.” That suggests Parnas was referring to Zlochevsky not Zelensky. Politico demonstrates of how further contextual evidence in the exchange confirm “mr. Z” was indeed, Zlochevsky. Considering the additional context changes the meaning entirely, it at best shows scumbag/liar-Schiff was shockingly sloppy with his impeachment “evidence.” At worst, it shows he purposefully misrepresented the facts. Yet the media couldn't be more uninterested. While the rest of the media was out to lunch, Fox News did cover the story on both their news and opinion shows late Tuesday into Wednesday morning...  https://www.newsbusters.org/s3/files/styles/blog_body-50/s3/images/fox_and_friends_-_08_13_41_am.jpg?itok=WTtZlFNr

{ news.usni.org } ~ The Navy’s arsenal of Tomahawk cruise missiles will all become a Block V configuration, with older models to be retired and demilitarized, according to the program manager... “All Block IVs will be converted” and become Block V Tomahawks, said Capt. John Red, speaking to reporters during the 2020 Surface Navy Association Symposium last week. The upgraded Tomahawks will have a more extended range and modernized data-link radio and navigation systems. The upgrades are being done at Raytheon’s Tucson, Ariz., facility. The existing Tomahawk Block III missiles will be retired and demilitarized. The first five Tomahawk Block IVs being modernized will come out as test missiles with four heading back to the fleet “to demonstrate their capabilities” when used in an expected contested environment in the future, Red said. When the Block IV cruise missiles were first manufactured, the expectation was they would have a 30-year life. Red added, “they were designed in 1999, the late 90s with early 2000s technology. That meant “the future is now” for their modernization. “We’re still producing Block IVs,” which reached initial operating capability in 2004, said Chris Daly, director of program management at Raytheon. Red said 90 missiles will go through the recertification process per cycle. There will be three variants in Block V, but “the determination of the split” between the versions has yet to be determined, Red said. “The Block Va variants will be called Maritime Strike” with a new seeker capable of hitting a moving target. Red would not detail the seeker’s capability beyond saying it operated in various modes and has “the ability to discriminate targets” and can be updated in flight. Block Vb will feature the Joint Multi-Effects Warhead System. The new warhead was first announced in 2010 and tested in 2014...   https://news.usni.org/2020/01/22/entire-navy-tomahawk-missile-arsenal-will-upgrade-to-block-v?utm_source=USNI+News&utm_campaign=e0ebd39a80-USNI_NEWS_DAILY&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_0dd4a1450b-e0ebd39a80-231491269&mc_cid=e0ebd39a80&mc_eid=3999f18767

{ gatestoneinstitute.org } ~ Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's decision to intervene militarily in the Libyan conflict not only raises the prospect of the conflict entering a new and more dangerous phase... it also promises to provide a significant boost for the Islamist militias that are vying to take control of the country and establish a Muslim Brotherhood-style government in Tripoli. Mr Erdogan's justification for sending Turkish troops to Libya, which has the backing of the Turkish parliament, is to provide support for Prime Minister Fayez al-Serraj, the head of the UN-backed Government of National Accord (GNA). The GNA is under enormous pressure as a result of the offensive being undertaken by General Khalifa Haftar, the rebel Libyan leader who, with the backing of Russia, France and the United Arab Emirates, has overrun large swathes of the country and is now attempting to seize control of the Libyan capital. The strength of Gen. Haftar's position was graphically demonstrated earlier this week when Haftar's forces seized control of Libya's vital oil production facilities on the outskirts of Tripoli, a move that has cut output to almost zero. This move prompted Mr Serraj to warn that Libya faces dire consequences if the blockade is not lifted. After the summit in Berlin called by German Chancellor Angela Merkel with the aim of establishing a ceasefire, Mr Serraj declared: "The situation will be catastrophic should it stay like this." The summit ended with neither of the warring parties agreeing to a ceasefire, and only giving their lukewarm support to international calls for an arms embargo to prevent any further escalation in the fighting...   https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/15474/libya-erdogan-muslim-brotherhood
Dershowitz: Impeachment Charges
Should Be Immediately Dismissed by Senate

by restoreamericanglory.com ~ In a conversation with Fox News’s Laura Ingraham on Monday night, Harvard Law professor Alan Dershowitz argued that the weak impeachment articles against President Donald Trump should be dismissed out of hand by the U.S. Senate... Dershowitz, who is serving the president’s legal team in an advisory capacity, said that since the articles themselves do not accuse Trump of anything close to a crime, they are subject to immediate dismissal. “This is a motion-to-dismiss case, in which, if it were a criminal case and he was charged with dishonesty … the first thing you do is make a motion to dismiss because dishonesty isn’t a crime,” he said. “Obstruction of Congress is not an impeachable offense. Abuse of power is not an impeachable offense. A motion to dismiss and a perfect world would be ideal, but do the American public want to see an end to the trial so quickly? I think that becomes a political issue.” Dershowitz explained that an argument to dismiss based on the weakness of the articles themselves did NOT conflate with an admission of guilt. He said that the president’s position continues to be consistent – that he is not guilty of the charges filed against him by the House of Representatives. However, he said, it was incumbent upon the legal team to make two arguments simultaneously: That one, Trump is innocent, and two, even if he was guilty, the charges would not amount to an impeachable offense. “The position is he didn’t do any of these things, that he is innocent as a matter of fact,” Dershowitz explained. “As every criminal trial lawyer knows when you have disputes over facts and disputes over law, you always argue in the alternative. You always argue that the facts are not proved, but hypothetically, even if the facts were to be proved, they wouldn’t rise to the level of a crime or in this case an impeachable offense. So, it is not an acknowledgment in any way by anyone on the legal team that the president did anything wrong, that is just not how that brief could possibly be read.” No one can lay out the weakness of the case against Trump like Dershowitz, which is why it is a great thing that he’s an official part of the legal team. There is no constitutional basis for these proceedings, despite the endless arguments by the Democrats to the contrary. Even if every word of what they’ve said about Trump is true, there is nothing in these charges that makes him subject to an impeachment conviction. This is a political show being produced with taxpayer dollars. The quicker it’s over, the better.

Trump Denounces Tyranny of Socialism at Davos

Thomas Gallatin:  While the Senate was wrangling over rules for its impeachment trial, President Donald Trump was in Davos, Switzerland, at the World Economic Forum, where he gave one of the best speeches of his presidency. Trump was there to tout “the great American comeback” and to encourage world leaders to follow his lead and reject the doom-and-gloom prognostications of the globalist and their calls for socialism. “This is not a time for pessimism,” he declared. “This is a time for optimism. … The American Dream is back — bigger, better, and stronger than ever before. No one is benefitting more than America’s middle class.”

Trump blasted the climate alarmists for their fearmongering and destructive agenda: “Fear and doubt is not a good thought process because this is a time for tremendous hope and joy and optimism and action. But to embrace the possibilities of tomorrow, we must reject the perennial prophets of doom and their predictions of the apocalypse. They are the heirs of yesterday’s foolish fortune-tellers. … They predicted an overpopulation crisis in the 1960s, mass starvation in the ‘70s, and an end of oil in the 1990s. These alarmists always demand the same thing: absolute power to dominate, transform, and control every aspect of our lives.”

He pointedly asserted, “We will never let radical socialists destroy our economy, wreck our country, or eradicate our Liberty. America will always be the proud, strong, and unyielding bastion of freedom.”

Overall, Trump’s speech was positive and full of hope for the future despite the looming impeachment trial he is facing at home. He concluded by stating, “Above all else, we will forever be loyal to our workers, our citizens, and our families — the men and women who are the backbone of our economies, the heart of our communities, and the soul of our countries. Let us bring light to their lives one by one and empower them to light up the world.”   ~The Patriot Post
