Federal Reserve board votes to cut interest rates
by Melissa Quinn
{ } ~ The Federal Reserve cut rates by a quarter point Wednesday in a widely expected move aimed at staving off a slowing economy and fears of a recession... It was the third rate cut in a row for the monetary policy committee, bringing the target for short-term interest rates to a range of 1.5% to 1.75%. Two Fed officials, Kansas City Fed President Esther George and Boston Fed President Eric Rosengren, voted against the rate cut and would have maintained the target range set in September. A statement released by the central bank following its meeting in Washington, D.C., did not include a line indicating that another cut in rates may be coming, a signal that the Fed may not make further decreases when it meets in December. "Overall, we see the economy as having been resilient to the winds that have been blowing this year," Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell said during a press conference following the meeting. Powell said the current stance of monetary policy is "appropriate and will remain so as long as the outlook is broadly in keeping with our expectations." The central bank, he said, is not currently thinking about raising rates, though he acknowledged there will be times in the future where a hike will be appropriate. In a deviation from his predecessors, Trump has pilloried the Fed and Powell in recent months for holding back economic growth with previous interest rate hikes and has called for the central bank to slash rates to zero or set negative rates in line with some European countries. Last week, Trump tweeted the Fed would be “derelict in its duties” if it didn’t lower rates again Wednesday and said the central bank was “way too fast to raise, and way too slow to cut.” The president also called Powell and other bank officials “boneheads,” and has equated the Fed chairman, who he selected to replace Janet Yellen, to a “golfer who can’t putt.” Despite Trump’s criticisms of the Fed, the central bank has lowered borrowing costs twice this year as it aims to sustain economic expansion, now in its 11th year. In September, the Fed lowered its interest rate target by a quarter percentage point, which followed a rate cut in July...
‘A Ticking Time Bomb’: Fox News Reports
From Dangerous ISIS Prison Camp In Syria
{ } ~ Thousands of dead ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi’s followers are “living in limbo” at a prison camp in Syria... and have formed their “own caliphate,” Fox News reported Tuesday. The 71,000 prisoners started “their own mini-caliphate inside the camp,” Kurdish guards told Fox News, and the camp is largely made up of family members of Islamic State fighters. Following al-Baghdadi’s death Saturday evening amid a U.S. military raid at a compound in northern Syria, it is unsure what will become of the prisoners, as their home countries do not want them back, “Fox News Reporting” host Bill Hemmer said Tuesday. “We had the fall of the caliphate back in March, and the sense that ISIS was really on the losing ground,” Fox News foreign affairs correspondent Benjamin Hall said while on the ground in Syria after attempting to interview the prisoners. “What we saw is that the ideology is stronger than ever, that these people in these camps — tens of thousands of them — are a ticking time bomb. That they are waiting to escape, and no one has any plans on what to do with them.” The people at the camp are “fervent believers,” and the prisoners have “recreated” the caliphate they left, Hall said. He talked about the police that essentially run the camp, noting that breaking the laws of the caliphate often results in death. “They have mutilated some people, they have cut them up. They’ve even found the body of a 1-year-old baby beaten to death, though they can’t explain why or even what goes on in the heads of these terrorists,” he continued...
Index of Military Strength Finds Preparedness
to Defend Homeland, Win Wars ‘Marginal’
by Thomas Spoehr
{ } ~ How prepared is the United States military to defend the American homeland, win wars abroad, and preserve freedom of commerce internationally? Marginally... “Marginal” is a reality-based description for America’s military, according to The Heritage Foundation’s 2020 Index of U.S. Military Strength, set for release Wednesday. The latest Index of U.S. Military Strength is a one-of-a-kind assessment, which unpacks American preparedness to achieve three primary goals by measuring U.S. military capacity, capability, and readiness. These metrics suggest that the United States must maintain a sufficiently sized and advanced military force that is ready to “fight tonight” if needed. To determine military preparedness, the 2020 index considers three variables: the global operating environment, the threats that face America, and the posture of the U.S. military itself. Currently, the United States’ operating environment is ranked as “favorable,” thanks to American allies and our strong international presence, which allows American interests to be pursued more seamlessly than not. However, threats to America—such as China, Russia, Iran, and North Korea—are classified as “high,” while U.S. military power to counter those threats is rated only “marginal.” Insufficient numbers of Army units, subpar infrastructure for Navy vessel repairs, recruitment challenges facing the Air Force, relatively small numbers of Marine Corps battalions, and aging nuclear warheads are samples of the challenges besetting the U.S. military. Our adversaries won’t wait for us to catch up...
scumbag/liar-nObama-Appointed Judge
Rules Against Trump, Gives
scumbag-Schiff The 1 Thing He Needed
by Martin Walsh
{ } ~ Democrats are ramming ahead with their plans to impeachment President Donald Trump over a phone call he had back in July with Ukrainian President-elect Zelensky... After Robert Mueller’s disastrous testimony back in July, Democrats threw a Hail Mary pass and sued the Department of Justice for access to the previously secret grand jury testimony. The DOJ argued that they weren’t releasing the grand jury information for two reasons: (1) it was highly classified and (2) longstanding DOJ policy stated they did not have to release it to Congress. But an scumbag/liar-nObama-appointed federal judge ruled in the Democrats’ favor and gave the DOJ until Oct. 30 to produce the secret grand jury material. Politico reported that this is a huge win for House Intel Committee Chairman scumbag-Adam Schiff, who will now have more information to leak, distort, and frame as “damning” to the president. Judge Beryl Howell ruled the DOJ must provide “all portions of Special Counsel Robert S. Mueller III’s Report on the Investigation Into Russian Interference in The 2016 Presidential Election that were redacted pursuant to” grand jury restrictions. The Trump administration argued that since Democrats were not in an official impeachment inquiry they had no right to his evidence. In a double victory for Speaker liar-Nancy Pelosi, Howell ruled that the impeachment inquiry Democrats have launched is valid even though the House hasn’t taken a formal vote on it. The decision rejects arguments by DOJ and congressional Republicans that a formal vote is necessary to launch impeachment proceedings...
DC Circuit Halts Disclosure Of Mueller Grand
Jury  Materials Just Hours Before Release
{ } ~ The U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit temporarily halted the release of grand jury materials from former special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation Tuesday... just hours ahead of their scheduled distribution. A three-judge panel issued a short directive saying the grand jury documents will be temporarily withheld while it considers an  emergency appeal from the Department of Justice (DOJ), which hopes to shield those materials on a permanent basis. “The purpose of this administrative stay is to give the court sufficient opportunity to consider the emergency motion for stay pending appeal and should not be construed in any way as a ruling on the merits of that motion,” the decision  reads. Judges Patricia Millett, Cornelia Pillard, and Robert Wilkins sit on the panel. Former President Barack scumbag/liar-nObama appointed all three judges to the bench. U.S. District Judge Beryl Howell ordered the Justice Department to furnish the Mueller grand jury evidence to the House Judiciary Committee by Wednesday. House Democrats are seeking the information pursuant to their impeachment inquiry of President Donald Trump. Howell’s ruling required the Justice Department to share all portions of the Mueller report that were redacted due to grand jury secrecy rules. She also ordered DOJ to provide transcripts or exhibits referenced in redacted passages...
North Carolina judges toss GOP's
'gerrymandered' districts, in major win for
scumbag-Eric Holder initiative
By Gregg Re
{ } ~ A panel of state judges in North Carolina blocked the state's GOP-friendly congressional map from being used in the 2020 elections... ruling that voters had a strong likelihood of winning a lawsuit that argued Republicans unlawfully manipulated district lines for partisan gain beyond any reasonable doubt. The lawsuit was brought by North Carolina voters backed by the National Redistricting Foundation, part of a comprehensive national operation led by former Attorney General scumbag-Eric Holder intended to make district lines more friendly to Democrats before the 2020 elections and the pivotal 2021 redistricting. The panel of three Superior Court judges issued a preliminary injunction preventing elections under the district lines, starting with the March 3 primary. The judges further indicated they would soon effectively make that preliminary injunction permanent by encouraging the plaintiffs to file for a motion for summary judgment. The ruling came just months after the Supreme Court punted the partisan fight over gerrymandering to state courts this summer, saying it was not an issue for federal courts to decide regardless of the circumstances. In September, after that go-ahead from the Supreme Court, North Carolina state judges quickly struck down state House and Senate districts. They found extreme political manipulation of the district lines, similar to what voters suing over the congressional map also said had occurred. In the ruling Monday, the judges — Paul Ridgeway, Alma Hinton and Joseph Crosswhite — agreed that "there is a substantial likelihood that plaintiffs will prevail on the merits of this action by showing beyond a reasonable doubt that the 2016 congressional districts are extreme partisan gerrymanders" in violation of the North Carolina Constitution...
Whistleblower wrote memo after learning of
Ukraine call, saying WH official
called it 'crazy,' 'frightening'
By Catherine Herridge and Bradford Betz
{ } ~ Immediately after learning secondhand information from a White House official about President Trump’s July 25 phone call with the president of Ukraine... the first whistleblower wrote a dramatic personal memo, saying the White House official characterized the call as “crazy” and “frightening,” Fox News has learned. In the two-page, single-spaced memo on July 26, the day after the Trump-Zelensky phone call, the whistleblower wrote: “The following is a record of a conversation I had this afternoon with a White House official about the telephone call yesterday morning between President Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.” The whistleblower wrote that the conversation with the unnamed White House official “only lasted a few minutes, and as a result, I only received highlights.” In contrast to a publicly released transcript of the July 25 phone call, the two-page memo used dramatic language. According to the memo, the White House official “described the July 25th call as ‘crazy,’ ‘frightening,’ and ‘completely lacking in substance related to national security.’” The first whistleblower complaint helped spark House Democrats to launch a formal impeachment inquiry into the president, with many claiming he improperly pressured Ukraine to investigate potential 2020 election rival loose lips liar-Joe Biden, whose son Hunter once sat on the board of a key Ukrainian energy firm. Trump repeatedly has denied he did anything wrong. The whistleblower memo appeared to rebut criticism that the White House-released transcript was notes or a summary, writing that the “standard practice” was for the “White House situation room to produce a word-for-word transcript that memorializes the call.” The whistleblower also stated the transcript was produced and being “treated very sensitively.” Significantly, the whistleblower noted, “The President did not raise security assistance” during the call. Allegations of a quid pro quo were central to the complaint, later filed by the whistleblower in mid-August which also “connected the dots” through media reports and other unnamed officials. “The President told Zelensky that he would be sending his personal lawyer, former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani, to Ukraine soon and requested that Zelensky meet with him. Zelensky reluctantly agreed that, if Giuliani travelled to Ukraine, he would see him,” the whistleblower wrote...
Conservatives' True North
Robin Smith:  Last week, Heritage Foundation President Kay Coles James posted the following on social media: “The True North principles are based on our nation’s founding principles and represent the direction we must always point to keep America on course. Following them will ensure we remain the strongest, most free, most prosperous nation on earth.”

James’s Oct. 21 post also included a link to an article  spelling out 14 defining principles of conservative ideology and policy. Officially unveiled at the President’s Club meeting last Monday, True North: The Principles of Conservatism are as advertised. These basic truths, when applied, do exactly as promoted. They serve as “ a guide to building an America where freedom, opportunity, prosperity, and civil society flourish.”

There’s nothing mentioned about Democrat versus Republican. There’s no reference to Donald Trump, liar-Nancy Pelosi, loose lips liar-Joe Biden, Mike Pence, Barack scumbag/liar-nObama, or George W. Bush. This African-American woman who now leads one of the most renowned conservative think tanks expressed what we’ve always been working for in the conservative movement: A nation of free individuals, self-reliant because of our own personal Liberty that makes America the strongest nation due to the empowerment of her people.

Nonpartisan. Not personal. Not limited to a race, a gender, a voter bloc, an age-group. Simply put, these guiding principles don’t divide as does identity politics; they unite people devoted to the Liberty that is uniquely American. That’s because it’s individual at creation; it’s greatest when the governing entity is limited; and it’s based on personal work, merit, and equal opportunity rather than being reserved for the governing or ruling elite.

What are these principles that define conservatism? Heritage lists them:

  • The federal government exists to preserve life, liberty and property, and it is instituted to protect the rights of individuals according to natural law. Among these rights are the sanctity of life; the freedom of speech, religion, the press, and assembly; the right to bear arms; the right of individuals to be treated equally and justly under the law; and to enjoy the fruits of ones labor.

  • The federal government’s powers are limited to those named in the Constitution and should be exercised solely to protect the rights of its citizens. As Thomas Jefferson said, “The government closest to the people serves the people best.” Powers not delegated to the federal government, nor prohibited by the Constitution, are reserved to the states or to the people.

  • Judges should interpret and apply our laws and the Constitution based on their original meaning, not upon judges’ personal and political predispositions. Individuals and families — not government — make the best decisions regarding their and their children’s health, education, jobs, and welfare.

  • The family is the essential foundation of civil society, and traditional marriage serves as the cornerstone of the family.

  • The federal deficit and debt must not place unreasonable financial burdens on future generations.

  • Tax policies should raise only the minimum revenue necessary to fund constitutionally appropriate functions of government.

  • America’s economy and the prosperity of individual citizens are best served by a system of free enterprise, with special emphasis on economic freedom, private property rights, and the rule of law. This system is best sustained by policies promoting free trade and deregulation, and opposing government interventions in the economy that distort markets and impair innovation.

  • Regulations must not breach constitutional principles of limited government and the separation of powers.

  • America must be a welcoming nation — one that promotes patriotic assimilation and is governed by laws that are fair, humane, and enforced to protect its citizens.

  • Justice requires an efficient, fair, and effective criminal justice system — one that gives defendants adequate due process and requires an appropriate degree of criminal intent to merit punishment.

  • International agreements and international organizations should not infringe on American’s constitutional rights, nor should they diminish American sovereignty. America is strongest when our policies protect our national interests, preserve our alliances of free peoples, vigorously counter threats to our security, and advance prosperity through economic freedom at home and abroad.

  • The best way to ensure peace is through a strong national defense.

Appreciate a truth about the application of these principles in a day that the political Left has embraced socialism rather than an economy of individual Liberty and empowers the government, not the individual. These stances on the political Left have not occurred overnight. The same may be said of some on the Center-Right of politics. The bailouts of the mid-2000s, along with the embrace of globalism, is not characteristic of a limited government that exists by the consent of the governed.

In his book, The Little Things: Why You Really Should Sweat the Small Stuff, Andy Andrews tells of a day trip he and two buddies in their twenties experienced that turned into a time lost at sea in the Gulf of Mexico. Having departed from Orange Beach, Alabama, the three expected to return before day’s end with a catch of tuna rumored to be running about 100 miles off the coast near an oil rig.

After four hours, no rig in sight and pounded by the wind and waves, the autopilot was checked again to confirm the navigation coordinates entered when leaving Perdido Pass. The trio ran out of fuel, spent the night in helpless fear and, thankfully, were driven toward land and towed to safety the next late evening.

So, what happened, and why does it matter? A few weeks later, the boat’s electronics were checked. The autopilot was off by two degrees. Two small degrees. This small variance was magnified with the distance as time passed.

The Heritage Foundation has reminded us of Founding Principles that have made America great by empowering individuals. Even within the Center-Right of principle-driven policy, we find ourselves with a compass that’s been recalibrated by today’s culture rather than timeless truths. True North — let’s recalibrate.   ~The Patriot Post
