TERROR WATCH LIST TAKES A BLOW: “The government’s watchlist of more than 1 million people identified as ‘known or suspected terrorists’ violates the constitutional rights of those placed on it, a federal judge ruled Wednesday,” according to The Washington Times. “The ruling from U.S. District Judge Anthony Trenga grants summary judgment to nearly two dozen Muslim U.S. citizens who had challenged the watchlist with the help of a Muslim civil-rights group, the Council on American-Islamic Relations. But the judge is seeking additional legal briefs before deciding what remedy to impose.” Ironically, while terrorists are being pacified, San Francisco is designating lawful Americans as terrorists.

CAROLINAS BATTERED: The Weather Channel reports, “Hurricane Dorian is now unleashing its siege of storm surge flooding, rainfall flooding, high winds and tornadoes as it tracks near the coasts of South Carolina, North Carolina and southeast Virginia through Friday. Dorian’s maximum sustained winds increased to the 115-mph threshold required to regain Category 3 status. Despite that, its damaging impacts are likely to remain the same as it hammers this part of the Southeast coast.” Meanwhile, at least 20 deaths are being attributed to Dorian in the Bahamas.

CLIMATE BLUSTER: “Top Democratic presidential contenders talked tough Wednesday on cutting climate-damaging emissions from oil, gas and coal, turning their focus to global warming in a marathon evening of town halls that gave the candidates a chance to distinguish themselves on a topic of growing importance to their party’s liberal base,” the Associated Press reports. The only thing you really need to know is that the forum was long in length and short on facts.

Business & Technology

TRADE TALKS CONTINUE: “The Chinese Commerce Ministry announced Wednesday that the next round of trade talks with the U.S. will begin in October in Washington, D.C. ‘Both sides agreed that they should work together and take practical actions to create good conditions for consultations,’ the ministry announced.” (Washington Examiner)

BE EVIL: “Google agreed Wednesday to pay a $170 million fine to settled claims that its subsidiary, YouTube, violated children’s privacy by illegally gathering their personal information and selling it to advertisers without their consent or that of their parents. The fine, which is the largest civil penalty ever leveled for a such a privacy violation, was part of a settlement reached by the Federal Trade Commission and New York’s attorney general in response to Google’s violation of the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).” (National Review)

CVS-AETNA MERGER APPROVED: “A federal judge reviewing a Justice Department decision to allow U.S. pharmacy chain and benefits manager CVS Health Corp (CVS.N) to merge with health insurer Aetna said on Wednesday that the agreement was in fact legal under antitrust law.” (Reuters)

THE SMOKING GUN? “The preliminary hearing for undercover journalist David Daleiden began Tuesday in California with Planned Parenthood admitting that it harvested aborted babies’ body parts and supplied them to human tissue procurement companies, according to the Center for Medical Progress. Daleiden and Sandra Merritt face 15 felony charges for invasion of privacy because they exposed the abortion chain’s gruesome baby body parts trade. Tuesday began a nine-day preliminary hearing about whether the case should go to trial.” (LifeNews.com)

AND NOT A MOMENT TOO SOON: According to The Daily Signal, “A city council in Texas has voted to stop renting out space at the local library to public organizations, essentially canceling the town’s ability to have a ‘Drag Queen Story Time’ for children, a move hailed by pro-family advocates. ‘These are people who are actually employed at adult nightclubs,’ Mary Elizabeth Castle, a policy adviser for Texas Values, a nonprofit organization that promotes faith, family, and freedom, said of the drag queens.” Unfortunately, for many children already exposed, the damage is already done.

Other Notables

LABOR AIDE REINSTATED: “The Department of Labor reinstated a political appointee Wednesday night who resigned under pressure after a Bloomberg Law reporter accused him of anti-Semitism for a Facebook post in which he was actually condemning anti-Semites in the alt-right,” The Daily Caller reveals. This is what happens in a trigger-happy society.

BREXIT HOOPLA CONTINUES: “In a major defeat for Prime Minister Boris Johnson, the British House of Commons on Wednesday passed a bill designed to prevent a so-called no-deal Brexit as the country’s October 31 deadline for leaving the European Union draws near,” National Review reports. “Members of Parliament voted 327 to 299 in favor of a bill that would force Johnson to ask the EU for a three-month extension of the October 31 deadline if the two sides can’t reach a deal outlining the terms of future relations and mitigating the economic disruption Brexit is expected to cause by October 19.” The Daily Signal presents the implications and the way forward.

GOP Judiciary member predicts Horowitz
FISA report will lead to indictments
by Jerry Dunleavy
{ washingtonexaminer.com } ~ Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz’s investigation into alleged abuse of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act by the DOJ and FBI will result in indictments... a Republican member of the House Judiciary Committee said Sunday. Rep. Andy Biggs of Arizona made the prediction on Fox News' Sunday Morning Futures, discussing Horowitz’s report last week FBI Director scumbag-James Comey’s mishandling and leaking of memos on conversations he’d had with President Trump to spur the appointment of a special counsel. Biggs accused scumbag-Comey of “dodging and weaving” in the wake of the revelations, and said Horowitz’s next report on FISA abuse would be even more devastating. “I anticipate that we will see some very stark revelations of manipulation of the whole system for political purposes,” Biggs said. “When you see that happen, that's when I think you're going to see references or referrals for indictments, and I think you are going to see some indictments.” The DOJ and FBI made extensive use of British ex-spy Christopher Steele’s unverified dossier in FISA filings targeting Trump campaign associate Carter Page. Steele put together his dossier in 2016 at the behest of the scumbag/liar-Clinton-funded opposition research firm Fusion GPS. The congressman anticipated the FISA report will be released “probably mid-September.” And the Arizona lawmaker pointed to the ongoing investigation by Attorney General William Barr and U.S. Attorney John Durham into the origins of the Trump-Russia investigation. “I think you are going to see some accountability there,” Biggs said.  https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/gop-judiciary-member-predicts-horowitz-fisa-report-lead-to-indictments?fbclid=IwAR2ycKSf3eqEmrHnkOcSDSy1g5GQuV8KRQPdXBWMfE8Rno0FD1ZTvSw8Dm0

gopdailybrief.com } ~ “Fat scumbag liar-Jerry” thought he had Donald pinned – but his day just got ruined! With the Mueller report and testimony in our rearview mirrors... it doesn’t look likely that the Democrats have a path to impeachment. But somehow, that’s not stopping them! scumbag liar-Nadler hoped to file articles of impeachment in September against Trump, so they started to rally the Democrat troops who went home for their August vacation. Now that fall approaches, let’s see how successful they were…“Impeachment August” is officially over, but with progressive groups reaching few of the goals they hoped to reach towards the impeachment of President Trump…Only one Democrat from a district rated a “toss up” by the Cook Political Report came out in favor of impeachment…Other vulnerable Democrats managed to avoid coming out for impeachment, which is unpopular with the majority of Americans. LOL! Wow. A collection of twelve progressive groups pushed to convince lawmakers over August to back impeaching Donald Trump. After all that blood, sweat, and tears, only one Democrat came out in favor of impeachment. Ouch, that’s pretty pathetic...

Rhode Island’s lingering lead problem

muckrock.com } ~ Of kindergarteners entering school in Rhode Island this fall, nearly seven percent have tested positive for blood lead levels sufficient to trigger a public health response... according to data collected by the Rhode Island Department of Health (DOH). In the City of Providence, that estimate is closer to 10 percent. These data put Rhode Island at twice the national average for rates of lead poisoning, but both officials at the DOH and advocates at community organizations believe that the numbers are marked progress over previous testing levels. In 2001, an estimated 55 percent of new Rhode Island kindergartners tested positive for dangerous levels of blood lead. Though there is no known safe level of lead in the blood, the CDC has established 5 micrograms per deciliter as the reference level for public health actions to be initiated. Flint and Newark have made national headlines for delivering lead-poisoned water to their residents. However, in Rhode Island, state officials and local advocates have been quietly struggling to fight a different, yet similarly dangerous, source of lead poisoning for nearly half a century. Industrial byproducts and Rhode Island’s old and crumbling housing stock have created a physical environment in which the state’s children have been ingesting toxins for decades. While the problem of lead poisoning is built into Rhode Island’s infrastructure, its lingering effects have been unevenly distributed, said Laura Brion, executive director of the Childhood Lead Action Project, a community organization formed in 1992 to eliminate lead poisoning in the state...  https://www.muckrock.com/news/archives/2019/aug/30/Rhode-Island-Lingering-Lead-Problem/

gopdailybrief.com } ~ President Trump—unlike some presidents before him—is truly putting America first.  We’ve seen the results... Unemployment is at record lows. Wages are rising. And Americans are thriving. It wasn’t easy doing this. Trump had to make some hard, and very unpopular, choices. One of those was hitting China with tariffs. Experts claimed this would damage our economy and our relationship with the communist country. They fear this “trade war” will lead to our ruin. Not exactly. Now China is suing the United States over Trump’s unbending staff. But even while trying to undermine us, they one powerful confession slipped out. “As the world’s only superpower, it needs to shoulder its due responsibility, and join other countries in making this world a better and more prosperous place. Only then can America become great again,” Xinhua added. Woah. China is saying America is the “world’s only superpower.” They might have used that phrase to guilt us into bending to their demands. But the unintentionally admitted the truth. The United States is the world leader in freedom, opportunity, and success. After all, people haven’t been emigrating to China over the last 100 years, have they?...

freebeacon.com } ~ The Department of Justice indicted 35 drug traffickers who collectively participated in a conspiracy to sell tons of highly potent drugs in eastern Virginia... Over a three-day period, 120 law enforcement officers representing 30 agencies conducted a mass arrest of alleged conspirators responsible for a massive drug ring. Authorities seized 24 firearms, 30 kilograms of heroin, five kilograms of cocaine, $700,000 in cash, and 30 kilograms of fentanyl—the powerful opioid responsible for the surging number of overdose deaths in recent years. The fentanyl seized in the raid is enough to kill more than 14 million people—roughly the population of New York City, Los Angeles, and Houston combined—according to the Department of Justice. "This operation, through its seizure of scores of kilograms of illicit narcotics, saved lives in the Eastern District and elsewhere," G. Zachary Terwilliger, U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, said in a statement. "Any day where we can do that is particularly meaningful and impactful." The large-scale trafficking ring began in March of 2016, according to the indictment. Its participants purchased and received narcotics from suppliers in California, New York, and even Mexico. They allegedly had illicit cocaine, heroin, fentanyl, and cocaine base shipped to Virginia in privately owned vehicles, concealed using "hidden traps." The ring met in businesses throughout Virginia, including in Newport News, Hampton Roads, and Richmond. Over the course of the three-year operation, the 35 individuals charged in the indictment engaged in armed distribution of drugs—a separate felony offense. The alleged conspiracy relied on modern communication technology to evade detection by the authorities. According to DOJ, conspirators used Facebook, FaceTime, and WhatsApp, taking advantage of encrypted software to conduct day-to-day transactions. They additionally relied on pre-paid, anonymous cellphones, which they would change frequently to cover their tracks...

Political Editors:  A district judge in Montana recently meted out sentences to two men who were convicted on a number of charges, including for having claimed veteran status while neither had ever served. For these stolen valor convictions Judge Greg Pinski got creative in sentencing Troy Nelson and Ryan Morris.

As Time magazine reports, “Pinski ordered that Nelson and Morris must:

  • Handwrite the names of the 6,756 U.S. soldiers killed in Afghanistan and Iraq

  • Handwrite the obituaries of the 40 Montanans who died in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars

  • Serve 441 hours of community service

  • Write letters of apology to multiple veteran organizations

  • Attend the Montana Veterans Memorial on Memorial Day and Veterans Day every year during the suspended portions of their sentences for 8 hours wearing a placard that reads "I am a Liar. I am not a veteran. I stole valor. I have dishonored veterans.”

Judge Pinski explained his sentencing, stating, “I want to make sure that my message is received loud and clear by these two defendants. You’ve been nothing but disrespectful in your conduct. You certainly have not respected the Army. You’ve not respected the veterans. You’ve not respected the court. And you haven’t respected yourselves.”

The Times further notes, “In 2016 Morris claimed to have completed seven combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. Morris told the courts he suffered from PTSD and had to have his hip replaced after being injured by an IED, AP reports. Nelson had managed to enroll in the veterans court program before it was discovered he was not a veteran.”

The two men were also convicted of felony drug possession and will serve time in prison as well. After serving their prison sentences Nelson and Morris will be required to complete Pinski’s sentencing requirements before being considered for parole. How fitting.  ~The Patriot Post
