foxnews.com } ~ President Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping's face-to-face meeting on trade relations in Osaka, Japan, on Saturday "went better than expected," Trump said after the talks... Trump described the meeting as "excellent" and said the U.S. and China were "back on track" in trade talks but added that "negotiations are continuing." He told reporters he would announce the results of the talks at a news conference later Saturday. China's official Xinhua News Agency said the two leaders agreed to restart trade talks "on the basis of equality and mutual respect," saying the leaders had reached a cease-fire on trade and that Trump also agreed to forego new tariffs on Chinese imports. The meeting between the two leaders at the G-20 summit was their first in seven months, although the two leaders reportedly also met at a dinner for the Group of 20 leaders, where Trump said much was accomplished. The de-escalation is a pattern for Trump and Xi, whose agreements often break down over negotiation details. In the meeting, Trump and Xi were expected to focus on issues including trade and a dispute over Huawei Technologies. "We've had an excellent relationship," Trump said to Xi before the talks, "but we want to do something that will even it up with respect to trade." Trump told reporters he thought they would have a “very productive” meeting. “I think we can go on to do something that will be truly monumental and great for both countries," he added. Xi said, "Cooperation and dialogue are better than friction and confrontation."...

freebeacon.com } ~ China's Defense Ministry this week confirmed the test firing of a new submarine-launched ballistic missile the Pentagon regards as a strategic weapon... capable of striking anywhere in the United States from underwater launch points. Asked about the test of the new JL-3 submarine-launched ballistic missile, Sr. Col., Ren Guoqiang, a Defense Ministry spokesman, acknowledged the test firing. "It is normal for China to conduct scientific research and tests according to plan," Ren said during the monthly press briefing. "These tests are not targeted against any country or specific entity," he said. "China follows a defense policy which is defensive in nature and an active defense military strategy, and our development of weapons and equipment is to meet the basic demand of protecting China's national security." American defense officials disputed the Chinese claim that the test was not targeted at any country and said the missile firing on June 2 coincided with the visit to Asia by then-acting defense secretary Patrick Shanahan. The test was reported by the Washington Free Beacon on June 13. Shanahan spoke at a defense conference in Singapore where he indirectly identified China as "the greatest long-term threat" to the vital interests of states in the region for undermining the rules-based international order. China is engaged in destabilizing actions, what Shanahan termed "a toolkit of coercion," including the deployment of advanced weapons in militarizing disputed areas and threatening to use force to compel rivals. China also is engaged in influence operations to interfere in the domestic politics of other nations, undermine the integrity of elections, and threaten internal stability. Predatory economics are another feature of Chinese malign activities, along with state-sponsored theft of military and civilian technology...

Sorry, Media, Talking to Foreigners Does
Not Violate Federal Campaign Laws

dailysignal.com } ~ It was a hypothetical question about getting information on a political opponent from a foreign national. Yet President Donald Trump’s response sparked a furor... —one that was long on accusations and short on the actual law governing federal campaigns. Here’s the bottom line: A federal candidate who is freely given information is not receiving a “contribution” or “thing of value” and is thus not violating federal campaign finance law or the regulations issued by the Federal Election Commission. I know. I served as an FEC commissioner. If getting dirt on an opponent were a “thing of value,” then any adverse information concerning a candidate—even informed criticism of a rival’s policy proposals—would also have to be considered a “thing of value,” and both would have to listed as a financial “contribution” to a campaign. Such a broad interpretation of the law would be potentially unconstitutional and impractical to administer or enforce. Moreover, it is not a position that has been taken by the FEC. Federal law (52 U.S.C. §30121) prohibits a foreign national from contributing or donating money or a “thing of value” to a federal, state, or local candidate or political committee. Foreigners are also banned from engaging in independent political expenditures. That means that the Chinese government, for example, can’t give money directly to a candidate, nor can it buy an ad in The New York Times telling Americans they should vote for or against a particular candidate. This ban doesn’t prevent foreign nationals from volunteering to help a campaign, as long as the foreigner does not “dictate, control, or directly or indirectly participate in the decision-making process” of the campaign under a regulation issued by the FEC (11 CFR §110.20). The federal statute also says that the term “contribution” does not include an “individual who volunteers to behalf of a candidate.”...  https://www.dailysignal.com/2019/06/28/sorry-media-talking-to-foreigners-does-not-violate-federal-campaign-laws/?mkt_tok=eyJpIjoiTnpBelpXUmxZall3WVRobSIsInQiOiJcL1pEcnJrT0JoUHNGclJ1OGlqdGpJRjVMUFVsV0lwS1hoem9BNjdTUG9wRVN3NENNU2RIcDUreXpoc2lmU21pcURsM0M0a1Q0d2NIM3JrNys5RUhNcG5BcHBQbDZPQmdtaE40YjMyb0VPQkNyakZcL0VvUUQ4bUwyWkZlTnpcLzlxSSJ9

U.S. Warning: Iranian Hackers Hitting
Gov Agencies With Cyber Attacks

freebeacon.com } ~ The American government sent an internal warning to federal agencies on Friday disclosing a rise "in malicious cyber activity" by Iranian regime hackers who are threatening sensitive computer systems... according to a copy of the warning obtained by the Free Beacon. "The US Government has confirmed a recent rise in malicious cyber activity directed at US industries and government agencies by Iranian regime actors and proxies," an e-mail sent to employees of the Environmental Protection Agency reads. "Rising tensions between the US and Islamic Republic of Iran has resulted in targeted cyber campaigns that use destructive ‘wiper' attacks. These attacks are designed to delete and wipe data rather than the more common ransomware tactics of stealing data or money." The hack attacks come as tensions between the U.S. and Iran hit a boiling point following Tehran's downing of an American drone in the Persian Gulf region. While Iran has always attempted to hack American systems, the government-wide warning could signify the Islamic Republic is becoming more emboldened on the cyber front. "The ‘wiper' attacks can be carried out through spear phishing, password spraying and credential stuffing. What initially appears as an account compromise and data loss, can quickly turn into the entire network being compromised or destroyed," according to the government warning." The Environmental Protection Agency, which sent out a warning to its employees, is working with the Department of Homeland Security and other Intelligence and Cybersecurity communities to obtain and share information and to identify ways to protect EPA," the e-mail states. The U.S. also has conducted cyber espionage operations against Iran with varying degrees of success. Following President Donald Trump's decision to abort a military strike on Iranian targets as payback for the drone incident, the U.S. reportedly launched a series of cyber attacks on Iran, which the country’s military leaders claimed had been thwarted.  Government agencies have warned employees to be aware of the threats and take appropriate precautions.

St Louis Park City Council Votes to
Get Rid of the Pledge of Allegiance

independentsentinel.com } ~ The St. Louis Park Minnesota City Council voted to get rid of the Pledge of Allegiance. They are falsely claiming it’s been weaponized and it might turn off new residents... These are the new residents they want??? The St. Louis Park City Council voted 5 to 0 to stop saying the Pledge of Allegiance  at their meetings. They fear that the tradition was scaring away new residents in their community.“Unfortunately, some of us feel like patriotism has been so politicized that it’s almost used as a weapon against people,” St. Louis Park City Councilman Tim Brausen told the Star Tribune. Longtime St. Louis Park resident Dennis Moran said that he hadn’t heard about any complaints about the pledge from the community, the Star Tribune reported. “It’s always been tradition here since I’ve been watching the City Council meetings back in the late ’80s. They’ve always done the Pledge of Allegiance. It’s kind of automatic, or traditional,” Moran said. Resident Patti Carlson called the move by the city council “obnoxious,” according to the Star Tribune. “My fear for this council is that it’s all about image and not substance,” Carlson said. She said her grandparents wanted to become Americans when they immigrated to the United States and criticized the council’s desire to eliminate part of their history, the Star Tribune reported... Who are they doing it for?  https://www.independentsentinel.com/st-louis-park-city-council-votes-to-get-rid-of-the-pledge-of-allegiance/

Demo Debate 1: How Far Left Can They Go?

Nate Jackson:  The Democrat field of 25 announced candidates is, on the one hand, a clown car full of people who can’t possibly be serious about being president along with a few who have a legitimate shot. But the amalgam, as on display in last night’s Part I of II debate featuring 10 of those candidates, reveals that the party strategy is to cultivate a constituency of dunces around various issues and offers of “free” stuff — all to be brought together under one Hate Trump banner in time for 2020.

The candidates on stage: Elizabeth dinky-Warren,  scumbag-Cory BookerAmy Klobuchar, Julian Castro, socialist-Beto O'Rourke, scumbag-Bill de Blasio, Tulsi Gabbard, Jay Inslee, Tim Ryan, and John Delaney. Ten more will debate tonight.

As for last night, we’ll focus on three examples of the effort to push the envelope as far to the left as possible, testing messaging for the general election and bringing Democrat voters together.

Economy

dinky-Warren led the charge on this one, revealing the party’s strategy. If Democrats can’t get the recession they want, they’ll go with their bread-and-butter standby: envy.

“Who is this economy really working for?” Warren asked in a common theme for the debate. “It’s doing great for a thinner and thinner slice at the top.” Warren pointed to Big Pharma and Big Oil, as well as the prison system, as examples. She’s not entirely unfounded in diagnosing the problems, but she is grossly wrong about the solutions. “When you’ve got a government, when you’ve got an economy that does great for those with money and isn’t doing great for everyone else, that is corruption, pure and simple,” she thundered. The economy, she insists, is “rigged.” Warren’s solution? More government — telling business how and what to sell and consumers what they’re allowed to buy. Her real gripe is merely one of who’s doing the “rigging.”

scumbag-De Blasio made this plain, saying there’s “plenty of money,” but “it’s just in the wrong hands.”

In any case, it’s rather hilarious to hear Warren talking about anything being “rigged” when she parlayed her phony minority ancestry into a posh Harvard job. Moreover, she and her husband have an estimated net worth of as much as $10 million, which puts even  millionaire socialist commie-Bernie Sanders to shame. Must be hard being that “thinner slice at the top.”

Health Care

dinky-Warren and scumbag-de Blasio were the only two candidates on stage to raise their hands when asked if they’d be willing to abolish private insurance. scumbag-de Blasio, who never saw a private enterprise he didn’t want to destroy, even rebuked former Leftmedia heartthrob socialist-O'Rourke for “defending the private insurance industry.”

Again, Democrats are testing the waters to see how voters react to the idea of losing their private insurance. Medicare for All is popular … until people realize the implications.

Immigration

This time it was Castro offering up the most “progressive” proposition. He has called for repealing the federal law that makes illegally crossing the border a crime, and he demanded the others on stage line up behind him.

We’ve all seen the very real border crisis fomented by Democrats’ invasion invitation, marked by 144,000 apprehended or rejected migrants in May alone. Castro’s policy is to inject that with steroids.

Democrat pandering peaked with socialist-O'Rourke, scumbag-Booker, and Castro each breaking into Spanish.

Other Notables

Speaking of Castro, the man aiming to lead the Party of Science™ arguably had the most bizarre line of the night when he claimed he believes in “reproductive justice,” which means taxpayer-funded abortions … including for “a trans female.” Uh, that would also be known as “a man.” Do you even science, bro?

Then there was the moment when scumbag-Cory Booker  bragged about people getting shot in his neighborhood, as if that qualifies him to lead the charge on gun control. For sheer foolishness, he narrowly edged out Amy Klobuchar’s test for gun control: “Does this hurt my Uncle Dick in his deer stand?”

In summary, in addition to testing leftist messaging, every Democrat on stage, to varying degrees, thinks they can be more generous with your money, smarter with your decisions, and wiser with … well, everything than you can. Do Americans really want to put someone like that in the White House?  ~The Patriot Post
