ObamaCare's First Casualty

News that the Department of Health and Human Services was promulgating a rule that would destroy about 35% of the Health Savings Account market comes as no surprise to Tea Party activists who warned everyone who would listen that ObamaCare would kill the private insurance market.

The rule known as the "Medical Loss Ratio" rule would deny private and small business issued policies from being sold on the ObamaCare health care exchanges.  There are currently five million people who have small business and individual issued policies. Those policies will be ripped from their hands should the rule go into effect.

HHS does not seem to care that the rule will be directly violate President Obama's promise that "[I]f you like your health plan, you'll keep your health plan."   They also don't seem to care that their edict will decimate the Health Savings Account market.

Since their creation in 2003, HSAs have become the fastest growing health care product in history.  14 million Americans enjoy their benefits.  They are, in fact, the real alternative to government-run health care.  They are a market-based product that encourages people to save money by shopping for health care services.  No wonder they are the first victims of ObamaCare.

  • When this is all over (??), Sebilius should be tried as a criminal and either imprisoned for life or exiled, never to be allowed back in to the country.  Her meddling in Americans' healthcare will put people at risk and will lead to unnecessary suffering and death all for the cause of liberalism.  That is unforgivable, and she must be made to account for her actions and their consequences to this nation.

  • ISN'T THERE ANYONE IN THE LIBERAL MEDIA THAT WILL PUT THEIR POLITICS ASIDE AND START REPORTING THE TRUTH ON THE OBAMA CARE TO THE PEOPLE BEFORE ITS TO LATE?? THEY CALL THEMSELVES REPORTERS????  A DISGRACE TO THE PROFFESSION AND OBAM A DISGRACE TO THE WHITE HOUSE. IT MAKES ME SICK TO THINK WE HAVE THIS GROUP OF PEOPLE HERE IN OUR COUNTRY.

  • Does anyone not see why a lot of this bs starts after the election

  • I think we should all go to Dc and form a ring of disaproval around the ASSXXXE and see what happens

  • Yet anouther lie by Doh'blamer,..will they(the lie's) ever end?,..

  • This is just the tip of the iceberg. Many other things and doctor's will fall by the wayside once this monstrosity is fully enacted.(Unless this fraud Senate and this communist Pres. is thrown out on their ears.

  • The excrement is now starting to hit the fan. I sincerely hope many of those Obama zombies are affected by these policies being "ripped from their hands" and now realize what a deceitful liar he is.

There just has to be a time when some of them realize, "OMG, what kind of creep is this guy?"

  • If my numbers are correct, this would prove to be 56% of the touted number by liberals as being sooooo horrible - could have had insurance all along. So we are going to throw out the constitution, allow big brother gvt FURTHER and DEEPER into our lives and NOW our deaths - completely take our freedoms all for 20, 108,000 million people not having heath coverage? This could have been handled by just cutting the pay and health benefits of all those retired politicians in gvt. If they wanna "spread the wealth" they should start with taking from themselves.

It’s true that many of the 45,700,000 million "uninsured" could find coverage through existing government programs; many can their own coverage if they chose. As per FactCheck.org clearly points out - but only if you read between all the garbage they are throwing around to decipher the numbers.

The official Census figure for 2007 was 45.7 million uninsured - or as they understate and only mention once, persons who were without insurance at any given moment during the year. Is that indicative of what is being considered "uninsured"? So how many are TRULY without insurance as a consistent and long term condition?

26%, (12 million) of the uninsured were eligible for Medicaid or the Children’s Health Insurance Program (formerly SCHIP) but were not enrolled. These were disproportionately children – 6.1 million of the 12 million are under the age of 18. [Existing programs]

9% (9.1 million) of the uninsured have household incomes greater than $75,000. 10% (4,700,000 million) make more than 400 percent of the federal poverty level ($84,812 or more.) So it’s true that many of the uninsured could afford employer-sponsored family coverage.
  • I hope that many states nullify Obamacare... I would love to see it all go up in smoke...
