Chief Justice Roberts Is Right: An Unelected
Official Should Not Cast Tie-Breaking Votes

{ thefederalist.com } ~ On Friday evening, Chief Justice John Roberts announced that should a tie arise during the impeachment trial of President Donald Trump, he would not step in to break it... Given the near-even split of the Senate along party lines, Roberts’ comments put an end to the extensive speculation that had been bubbling around Washington. Senate Minority leader Chuck scumbag-Schumer prompted Chief Justice Roberts by asking the Justice if he was aware of two instances in which Chief Justice Salmon Chase made tie-breaking votes in the impeachment trial of President Andrew Johnson in 1868. Johnson’s impeachment was the first in our nation’s history, resulting from frequent clashes between the Republican-controlled Congress and then-President Johnson, who repeatedly vetoed legislation designed to protect newly freed slaves. Roberts informed scumbag-Schumer that he was aware of Chief Justice Chase’s voting history, but that he would not be conducting himself in the same manner, should a tie arise. Chase’s two tie-breaking votes were with regards to a motion to adjourn and a motion to end deliberations. Roberts addressed the significance of these two scenarios by stating, “I do not regard those isolated episodes 150 years ago as sufficient to support a general authority to break ties.” “If the members of this body, elected by the people and accountable to them, divide equally on a motion, normal rule is that the motion fails. I think it would be inappropriate for me, an unelected official from a different branch of government, to assert the power to change that result so that the motion would succeed,” he explained...

{ theconservativetreehouse.com } ~ Steve Bannon appears with Maria Bartiromo to discuss ongoing political events. At the beginning of the interview Bannon focuses exactly on the issue that is paramount to the American population... but is being avoided by politicians like Senator Lindsey Graham and institutional leaders like AG Bill Barr. Until there is a process to bring a formal reckoning, sunlight upon the entire enterprise, there will be unending attacks by resistance operatives within the administrative state. Steve Bannon also highlights the plan of the administrative state to diminish the successful accomplishments of President Trump and weaponize the Senate floor speeches to cast a cloud on the State of the Union speech. Indeed, Mitch McConnell has set up the schedule for maximum damage before acquittal.

Barr: The Real People Trying To ‘Impose Their Values’ On Others Are ‘Militant Secularists’

{ thefederalist.com } ~ U.S. Attorney General William Barr clapped back at leftwing hysteria over his support of the First Amendment Tuesday in an interview with Cardinal Timothy Dolan on Sirius XM... “I feel today religion is being driven out of the marketplace of ideas and there’s a organized militant secular effort to drive religion out of our lives,” Barr told Dolan. “To me the problem today is not that religious people are trying to impose their views on nonreligious people, it’s the opposite — it’s that militant secularists are trying to impose their values on religious people and they’re not accommodating the freedom of religion of people of faith.”Since developing similar ideas in depth in several public talks, Barr has been the subject of a series of hit pieces in publications including The New York Times and The New Yorker. It’s not just his full-throated defense of the natural right to obey one’s conscience above one’s government that gets their goat. Barr’s concern for the rule of law, fair play, and due process especially about Russian collusion and impeachment have also brought out the knives. A particularly unhinged — and error-riddled — 10,000-word New Yorker article by David Rohde may have made one accurate assessment: “Barr is the most feared, criticized, and effective member of Trump’s Cabinet.” There is certainly some relationship between the left’s fear and the right’s effectiveness, and thus the neutering attempts. As Sohrab Amari noted, Barr has been ridiculously labeled an “extremist Catholic” associated with a “secretive, ultra-orthodox Catholic sect.” Of course, the point of flak like this is to polarize the target and thus make him ineffective through clouds of mistrust. A parallel effort has been underway much longer against the nation’s first freedom: the duty to obey God before men. Thus in her own attack article against Barr last month in The New York Times, Katherine Stewart put the words religious liberty and religious freedom in scare quotes, even though these are longstanding natural rights that enjoy U.S. legal protection for very good reasons that include staunching bigotry. The ignorant scare quotes are becoming common in even outlets that style themselves objective news sources...  https://thefederalist.com/2020/01/30/barr-the-real-people-trying-to-impose-their-values-on-others-are-militant-secularists/

{ theconservativetreehouse.com } ~ Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham appears on Fox News with Maria Bartiromo to discuss the impeachment proceedings, the likely continuance of resistance investigative efforts... and Graham’s role in any Senate proceedings. Despite never having a single investigative hearing since he starting promising hearings at the conclusion of the Mueller probe in April 2019, Senator Graham promises hearings to get to the bottom of the loose lips liar-Biden-Burisma issue. Not likely. Bartiromo pushes the Senator on whether he will investigate the origin of the Whistleblower complaint, Graham avoids. Graham promises hearings on FISA abuse. You decide if they will ever happen. The FISA bulk metadata collection re-authorization vote is next month around March 15th.   https://theconservativetreehouse.com/2020/02/02/sunday-talks-lindsey-graham-discusses-impeachment-next-steps-with-maria-bartiromo/

{ americanthinker.com } ~ It was the saddest of times, it was the happiest of times; it was the time of funerary apparel and commiserations, it was the time of festive attire and congratulations; it was, in Washington D.C.'s grand theater of the absurd, the time for impeachment... The final act of this Faustian tragedy began a week before Christmas in 2019, when, draped in black and nervous as a mortician trying to look sad at a fifty-thousand-dollar funeral, liar-Nancy Pelosi announced that the president had been impeached. In spite of the melancholy atmosphere that covered the proceedings like a shroud, the proclamation elicited a smattering of cheers and applause from among her colleagues — but an icy stare and a disapproving wave of the speaker's hand quickly silenced the unwelcome outburst. Some twenty-eight days later, with her time of mourning completed, the liar-speaker traded her black raiment for a hot pink ensemble and replaced her somber affect with a Cheshire Cat–worthy smile. Then, with great fanfare, she took thirty gold and onyx ceremonial pens in hand and signed the articles of impeachment. Three days later, and still in a jubilant mood, Ms. liar-Pelosi appeared on the Bill Maher show, where she was greeted with thunderous applause, cheers, and a standing ovation. Like any good celebrity, Speaker liar-Pelosi responded to this outpouring of affection by bowing and waving to her adoring fans. Then, after Maher thanked her for delaying the impeachment until his show was back on the air, they memorialized her accomplishment with a fist bump, while she smiled and said, "Way to go." In the euphoria of that moment, every semblance of her simulated sadness evaporated, and she enthusiastically embraced the spectacle of impeachment. Yet, in spite of her two-faced conduct, liar-Nancy Pelosi is not the problem — and neither is her unstable and two-faced sidekick, scumbag/liar-Adam Schiff.Throughout the two-year Rosenstein-Weissmann investigation, Adam Schiff repeatedly claimed that Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin were in cahoots. He could not discuss the details with any specificity, but he assured everyone that he had seen the proof with his own eyes, and  the president's treachery would be exposed when the special counsel issued his report. Yet, when that long awaited day arrived, the proof Mr. scumbag/liar-Schiff promised was nowhere to be found. Instead, "The Report on the Investigation into Russian Interference in the 2016 Presidential Election" contradicted his oft-repeated assertion of Russian collusion, and concluded that "the investigation did not establish that members of the Trump campaign conspired or coordinated with the Russian government in its election interference activities." Much to Mr. scumbag/liar-Schiff's dismay, the Russian collusion narrative had crumbled, but he simply would not let it go. During his opening remarks at the Senate impeachment trial, scumbag/liar-Schiff alluded to a Russia-Trump connection some thirty times before turning to the Trump-Zelensky telephone conversation. He then made the astonishing claim that delaying the release of security assistance to Ukraine had increased the probability of a U.S.-Russian war, fought on American soil. "The U.S. aids Ukraine and the people," scumbag/liar-Schiff declared, "so that we can fight Russia over there, and we don't have to fight Russia here."...  https://www.americanthinker.com/articles/2020/02/whos_to_blame_for_pelosischiff_impeachment_insanity.html
Kushner: Palestinians welcome to propose alternative to borders set out in plan

by timesofisrael.com ~ Senior White House adviser Jared Kushner said on Saturday that the borders envisioned by the Trump peace plan for Israel and the future state of Palestine are not set in stone... and that the Palestinian Authority is welcome to provide input that Washington will take into consideration. “If there are things they want to change, if they don’t like where we drew the lines, they should come and tell us,” Kushner told Egyptian journalist Amr Adeeb during an interview on the El-Hekaya news show. But in an apparent contradiction, the senior White House adviser also made clear that the US was moving forward with plans to recognize an Israeli annexation of West Bank settlements, which would limit the amount of land that will be up for negotiation. Moreover, he declared that if the PA did not agree to work with the Trump administration’s peace proposal, Israeli settlements would continue to expand, thereby making it impossible to establish a Palestinian state. “What’s been happening for many years is that Israel has been expanding as they’ve been negotiating and negotiating, and there has not been a resolution to the conflict,” he said. Kushner, one of the main architects of US President Donald Trump’s peace plan, said the US was working on reaching an agreement with Israel to recognize Israeli sovereignty over parts of the West Bank, thereby allowing for Jerusalem to move forward with annexing these areas. While Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared after the plan’s release Tuesday that he intended to seek his government’s approval for annexing the Jordan Valley along with all Israeli settlements as soon as this week, Kushner pushed back the next day, saying that he wanted Israel to coordinate the measure with the US and that it should not go ahead before Israel has a fully functioning government after its March 2 elections...

'Compassionate' Dems Just Can't Solve Homelessness

Brian Mark Weber:  The problem of homelessness in Los Angeles has drawn national and global attention in recent years. Some of the city’s streets are lined with makeshift dwellings and blighted by needles and human feces. The threat of disease is very real, and the city’s residents have reached the breaking point.

The Los Angeles Times reports, “As people living in tents, RVs and makeshift shelters become a fact of life in neighborhoods far and wide, homelessness is now an all-consuming issue in Los Angeles County, with 95% of voters calling it a serious or very serious problem,” according to a new poll conducted for the Times and the Los Angeles Business Council Institute.

“The courts have upheld the rights of homeless people in recent years,” adds the Times, “saying that cities cannot ban sleeping in public unless they provide enough beds for those who want them.” Along these lines, the U.S. Supreme Court decided in December 2019 not to take up a lower court’s ruling protecting the homeless from prosecution for sleeping outside.

Of course, we can neither round up and imprison the homeless nor simply ignore them. And the crisis has gotten the attention of President Trump, who threatened the city with federal intervention.

But those bold steps were stopped by Congress in December, which voted to restrict how the administration could spend federal funds designed to alleviate conditions in Los Angeles. Nonetheless, as The Washington Post reports, “Administration officials now hope to work closely with Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti (D). They are considering whether to send hundreds of federal workers and additional money for services if a deal can be reached.”

When it comes to addressing homelessness, money appears to be the primary consideration. Phillip Molnar writes at The San Diego Union-Tribune, “San Diego, and other California cities, have spent millions of tax dollars on the homeless issue, including shelters, storage facilities and numerous programs.”

Money and new legislation clearly aren’t enough, especially when so-called leaders enact bad laws that make matters worse.

Thus, to the north in Washington state, Republicans are taking a more comprehensive approach to homelessness that goes beyond merely throwing money at the problem. As Seattle’s Ashley Archibald writes, “A group of Senate Republicans held a press conference Jan. 21 to articulate their vision of how to end homelessness in Washington, which would rely on existing funding and could strip the progressive stronghold of Seattle and King County of some authority to implement its own existing policies.”

Archibald adds, “One such proposal, the SHELTER — Serious Homelessness Engagement Leads to Effective Results — Act from Sen. Phil Fortunato (R-Auburn), would require counties of a certain size to have at least one large shelter facility, guarded by police, that would also have counseling and job services at hand.”

On the other side of the country, New York City houses the homeless in shelters and, for nearly 50 years, in commercial hotel rooms. But Mayor Bill de Blasio plans to end that practice by 2023 as part of the city’s Turning the Tide on Homelessness plan, a costly initiative that seeks to address the complexities of the problem.

These innovative ideas won’t end homelessness in America, but focusing on the root causes is a good start — and a far better alternative to allowing homeless tent villages to spring up on city streets, bringing lawlessness, violence, drug use, and disease.   ~The Patriot Post
