Trump legal team goes on offense in
impeachment trial, accuse Democrats
of 'massive' election interference

{ foxnews.com } ~ Donald Trump's lawyers defended the president against articles of impeachment Saturday morning arguing... it’s the Democrats trying to interfere in elections by seeking to remove Trump from the 2020 ballot for doing “absolutely nothing wrong.” White House Counsel Pat Cipollone said Democrats have no case and are doing damage to democracy by trying to undermine the will of American voters. “For all their talk about election interference, they're here to perpetrate the most massive interference in an election in American history,” Cipollone said in his opening remarks to the Senate. “And we can't allow that to happen." Cipollone continued: “It would violate the sacred trust that the American people have placed in you and have placed in them. The American people decide elections. They have one coming up in nine months.” Saturday was the first chance Trump’s lawyers had to refute the House’s case of impeachment and they came out making a forceful case that there are no grounds to remove Trump from office. Not only are Democrats asking the Senate to undo the results of the 2016 election but to tear up all ballots in the 2020 election with Trump’s name, Cipollone charged. “They're asking you to do something that no Senate has ever done and they're asking you to do it with no evidence. And that's wrong,” Cipollone said. Billed as a teaser for next week's argument, Trump's legal team gave a 2-hour preview of their legal argument. All told, they'll have three days and up to 24 hours to launch their defense - the same amount of time as House managers -- but Cipollone told senators up front they would be "respectful" of their time and make their presentations shorter and less repetitive than Democrats. House impeachment managers spent the prior three days arguing that Trump needs to be removed from office because he’s put his own self-interests before that of national security by pressuring Ukraine to investigate his political opponent, former Vice President loose lips liar-Joe Biden, and withholding nearly $400 million in security assistance to a country at war with Russia. In smoothly choreographed presentations that relied on videos from witnesses and slideshows, the seven House Democrats drilled home the narrative that Trump needs to be impeached for abusing his oath of office by soliciting foreign election inference solely to boost his 2020 reelection chances. say his testimony would not 'torpedo' Trump

{ washingtonexaminer.com } ~ John Bolton is unlikely to drop the bombshell on President Trump hoped for by Democrats should he testify in the Senate impeachment trial, according to those who know him well... Bolton is a committed hawk who devoted his career inside and outside the government to persuading Republican politicians to adopt his foreign policy agenda. Whatever his opinion of Trump’s conduct with regard to Ukraine, which pushed Democrats to impeach him, Bolton associates are convinced he would not jeopardize his influence with Republicans on national security matters by testifying against the president. “He’s a national security guy,” said Lisa Spies, a Republican fundraiser who previously consulted for Bolton’s political committees. “That’s his thing.” Bolton, 71, was U.S. ambassador to the United Nations under President George W. Bush. For years after, he was a regular on Fox News who raised big money from wealthy GOP donors for his political action committee and super PAC. Bolton used the cash to support Republicans who reflected his foreign policy views, donating generously and running television advertisements. Bolton relaunched his PAC last year after being ousted from the West Wing and immediately announced endorsements and contributions of $10,000 each for five Republican hawks: Sens. Tom Cotton of Arkansas, Cory Gardner of Colorado, and Thom Tillis of North Carolina, and Reps. Adam Kinzinger of Illinois and Lee Zeldin of New York. Bolstering the Democrats’ case against Trump with damning testimony would immediately blow up Bolton’s post-White House project. With the loyalty Trump commands from the GOP base and most congressional Republicans, donations to his PAC would dry up. Worse, the relationships that facilitate Bolton's ability to shape Republican foreign policy might be irrevocably broken. Republican insiders who have worked closely with Bolton say his willingness to testify in the Senate, if subpoenaed, should not be misinterpreted as a desire to settle a score with Trump. House Intelligence Committee Chairman Rep. scumbag/liar-Adam Schiff of California and House Judiciary Committee Chairman Rep. scumba liar-Jerry Nadler of New York have each used Hamilton’s words during Trump’s Senate impeachment trial. Hamilton, then the treasury secretary, was writing to then-President George Washington in 1792 on a variety of issues, including the possibility that America could become a monarchy, when he wrote the words currently being cited by the Democrats. “When a man unprincipled in private life desperate in his fortune, bold in his temper, possessed of considerable talents, having the advantage of military habits — despotic in his ordinary demeanor — known to have scoffed in private at the principles of liberty — when such a man is seen to mount the hobby horse of popularity — to join in the cry of danger to liberty — to take every opportunity of embarrassing the General Government & bringing it under suspicion — to flatter and fall in with all the nonsense of the zealots of the day — It may justly be suspected that his object is to throw things into confusion that he may ‘ride the storm and direct the whirlwind,'” Hamilton wrote. Democrats “used this famous quote from Alexander Hamilton about impeachment,” Sekulow said, as Fox News reported. “It wasn’t about impeachment. Palestinians call for mass protests
to foil Trump's plan

{ jpost.com } ~ Palestinian officials warned over the weekend that US President Donald Trump’s plan for Mideast peace, which is expected to be announced on Tuesday... would spark a new wave of mass protests in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. The officials said the Trump administration did not inform the Palestinians of its intention to publish the plan, also known as the “Deal of the Century.” Emphasizing that the plan would not change the reality on the ground as far as the Palestinians are concerned, the officials called for a series of protests to foil the “Zionist-American conspiracy.” A PA official in Ramallah warned that Israel and the US were “playing with fire.” The official said that the Palestinian leadership will meet in the coming days to discuss ways of responding to the Trump plan. “We are headed toward a dangerous escalation,” he cautioned. According to the official, the Palestinian leadership is “facing huge pressure from the street to take tough measures, especially halting security coordination with Israel.” PLO Secretary-General Saeb Erekat said on Saturday that “any deal, attempt or dictation that ignores the fact that Israel is an occupying power of the state of Palestine, will be recorded in history as the ‘fraud of the century.’” Erekat said that what the Trump administration has done so far, “and the full partnership with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will enter history as the ‘fraud of the century’ against international law, UN resolutions, and the terms of reference of the peace process.” Nabil Abu Rudaineh, spokesman for the Palestinian Authority presidency, repeated the Palestinians’ rejection of Trump’s plan. He said there have been no contacts between the PA and the US administration concerning the plan. The PA has been boycotting the US administration since Trump’s December 2017 decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. PLO Executive Committee member Hanan Ashrawi pointed out that the timing of the announcement of Trump’s plan coincided with the Knesset’s vote on Netanyahu’s request for immunity from prosecution on charges of bribery, fraud and breach of trust. “Add to it Trump’s impeachment issues and you have a lethal diversionary tactic at the expense of Palestinian rights and international law,” she wrote on Twitter....

Next week, he’ll be signing the historic USCMA trade deal. But Trump’s the kind of leader that keeps looking to the future. He says always wants to make the country better than it is. Make America Great Again, right? President Trump says tax cuts, health care and more trade deals are ahead… “We’ve done more than anybody in three years,” says Trump. “We are going to be doing a middle-class tax cut, a very big one. We’ll be doing that. We’ll be announcing that over the next 90 days.” President Trump got a big win for the American people with his tax cut in 2017. It fueled the economy and put money back in people’s pockets. But that’s not good enough for him. He plans on passing a middle-class tax cut, along with improvements to healthcare. Not to mention more trade deals. In another interview, he also mentioned ways of saving the country money that got people’s attention: by cutting back on “entitlements.” Democrats are going to destroy your Social Security. I have totally left it alone, as promised, and will save it! President Trump clearly has a different opinion than Democrats. He thinks they are the ones who would destroy Social Security, while he will save it. We think it’s a good thing when the government cuts back on expenses, especially with the $20 trillion deficit we have. Democrats don’t seem to be too interested in making America solvent again, and while Trump hasn’t succeeded in that area yet, he still says he wants to. Well, what do you want him to do? Qassem Soleimani in Baghdad... has made a public show of planning to continue Soleimani’s strategy of confrontation with the Trump administration. But the U.S. diplomat in charge of Iranian affairs had some very undiplomatic words for Gen. Esmail Ghaani, according to a Reuters report Thursday. The violent death that greeted Soleimani might just be waiting for anyone who wants to follow in his footsteps, Brian Hook reportedly told the Arabic-language daily Asharq al-Awsat. “If Ghaani follows the same path of killing Americans, then he will meet the same fate,” Hook said. The Tehran government promptly labeled the issue “governmental terrorism,” according to Reuters, but it was a warning Iranians — and the rest of the terrorist world — needed to hear.No one who’s even vaguely followed world events over the past 40 years could have missed the fact that the Islamic Republic of Iran has been engaged in a long-running conflict with the United States and other Western nations. While the utterly naïve, or treacherously deceptive, scumbag/liar-nObama administration attempted to appease the murderous mullahs with the disastrous Iran nuclear deal, President Donald Trump has taken a harder line against the tyrants of Tehran. The sanctions Trump imposed after pulling out of the nuclear deal are biting the Iranian economy badly. In the second half of 2019, the Trump administration publicly shrugged off a series of increasingly serious provocations from Iran — including the downing of an American drone, attacks on shipping in the Persian Gulf and an attack on a major Saudi oil field. However, the administration finally took direct action against an Iranian-supported militia in Iraq after the death of an American contractor in a missile attack on an American base by an Iranian-supported militia in Iraq. The U.S. military launched its airstrikes Dec. 29 on militia camps in Iraq and Syria that killed 25 militia members. Denver Post Fires Writer for Stating Scientific Fact
Political Editors: The Rainbow Mafia strikes again, this time in Colorado, where Denver Post conservative columnist Jon Caldara was given his walking papers after he penned an article in which he criticized the Associated Press stylebook as a “progressive bias … propaganda guide.” In his article, Caldara noted how a “very sizable percentage of Americans” have rejected the mainstream media, and that this is due primarily to the MSM’s leftist bias.
Of course, many journalists appear to be blind to that bias. Caldara argues that this blindness is due to a media culture that has become so “monolithically progressive” it can’t even find the political center anymore. Speaking to reporters about this reality is like “talking to an alcoholic about his drinking,” he said. The reporter “honestly can’t see the issue and will angrily suggest you are the one with the problem.”
As evidence of the hard-left bent within MSM culture, Caldara points to the AP stylebook, which is a repository of “progressively loaded language.” He argues that the stylebook is not merely a “dictionary-like guide for reporters and editors.” Instead, “What it actually does is cement terminology to promote political conclusions. It declares the winners and losers in political debates.” He then observes several examples of how the AP stylebook pushes a blatant leftist agenda, including the scientifically false claim that gender isn’t binary.
Caldara writes, “It’s admirable that reporters want to be compassionate to transgender individuals and those transitioning, as we all should be. But AP reporters first have a duty to the truth, or so they say. There are only two sexes, identified by an XX or XY chromosome. That is the very definition of binary. The AP ruling it isn’t so doesn’t change science. It’s a premeditative attempt to change culture and policy. It’s activism.”
Well, like that alcoholic in Caldara’s insightful example, the Denver Post’s opinion editor, Megan Schrader, wouldn’t accept or even tolerate his accurate assessment of the MSM and fired him. Interestingly, Caldara was one of the paper’s most-read columnists, and now Schrader is looking to fill his position with another “conservative” writer. Following his firing, Caldara noted that Schrader “cares deeply” about those who have been victimized but his “frustration is that [Schrader] doesn’t quite understand that the speech code she’s pushing is having an opposite effect … of what she wants.”
