{ westernjournal.com } ~ Far-left Democratic lawmakers issued a warning to their more moderate Democratic counterparts on Wednesday... and said they would ax a minimum wage bill if Republicans tried to amend it ahead of the vote. Reps. Pramila Jayapal from Washington state and Mark Pocan from Wisconsin said that progressive Democrats are ready to vote against the legislation en masse to raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour if the Republicans’ procedural motion is adopted beforehand, The Hill reported. The warning appears to be directed at more moderate Democrats who previously joined with Republicans in a motion to recommit. Such a motion allows the minority party to alter the legislation at the midnight hour before the final vote is cast. “We have no doubt that Congressional Republicans will try to divide the Democratic Caucus with a disingenuous Motion to Recommit. It’s up to all of us to stand unified and reject their bad faith effort to undermine this bill,” Pocan and Jayapal said in their statement. “After consulting with our Members this week, we are confident that any bill that includes a poison pill Republican Motion to Recommit will lack the votes to pass on the House Floor,” they added. While the content of the Republicans’ motion to recommit was not known, according to progressives, it doesn’t matter...

She risked her very life by making the pilgrimage away from religious and gender oppression to the European country. Many would be grateful for a new life in a free society and live out their days quietly. Not so with Parsan. She continues to put her self in harm’s way by reaching out to disenfranchised Muslims and leading them to the peaceful and loving teachings of Jesus. She has even published a memoir called “Stranger No More: A Muslim Refugee Story of Harrowing Escape, Miraculous Rescue and the Quiet Call of Jesus.” “My life is completely different since coming to Jesus,” the 47-year-old reportedly said. Raised in the Isfahan region of Iran, she was married off at 16 years old. She brought her first child into the world soon after Ayatollah Khomeini seized power following Iran’s Islamic Revolution in 1979. At 18, her husband was tragically killed and the authoritarian Islamic state forced her to hand her young son over to her deceased husband’s father under Iranian law. She stood her ground, regaining custody and later remarrying in hopes of a loving relationship. “After two years, I decided to marry again. His situation was like mine. His wife had died,” Parsan said. “But soon, he began beating my son very badly. I was pregnant again, and it was impossible for me to divorce.” As the Iran-Iraq war broke out, her violent husband forced her and her two children to trek across the mountains into Turkey during winter. As illegal immigrants, Turkish authorities imprisoned the entire family. After being released into Istanbul, it took nine months to garner enough money to travel to Denmark. In Scandinavia, the roots of Parsan’s spiritual rebirth took hold. “In about the first or second month there, a woman came to the door to speak about God. But it was not in my interest,” Parsan recalled. “I was so angry. I was so unhappy. But she came back the next day with a small Bible, so this time I asked Jesus to help me.” She hid the Bible from her husband. Unfortunately, after a brutal assault by her spouse during Christmas, she tried to commit suicide. The media counts on our forgetfulness and ignorance. Hard work by independent media, however, has exposed her and her media apologists and the Democrats have little choice: Condemn her and remove her from her committee assignments or suffer the consequences. Speaker liar-Nancy Pulosi’s repeated defense of her, doubtless for fear of being targeted by the leftist nutjobs in her ranks has placed her party’s continued majority in serious jeopardy. The President’s remarks and the media’s distortion of them have only occasioned new and more critical gaze on worthless-Omar and it isn’t pretty. Planned Parenthood Ousts Insufficiently 'Woke' CEONate Jackson: Just eight months into her tenure, Leana Wen was fired as Planned Parenthood’s president Tuesday. She succeeded Cecile Richards last November, but Wen, a woman of color and a committed leftist, wasn’t radical enough for the nation’s largest abortion mill. Given that Planned Parenthood rakes in more than $500 million every year from American taxpayers, many of whom view abortion as a tragedy to be ended, this is significant news.
The specifics are even more galling. Wen last year insisted, “People aren’t coming to Planned Parenthood to make a political statement. They’re coming because they need their vaccinations. They need their well-woman exams. They’re getting HIV tests.” (Definitely not mammograms, though.) She also said in her departure statement, “I believe the best way to protect abortion care is to be clear that it is not a political issue but a health care one.”
Planned Parenthood’s board members, however, clearly view abortion as their mission (PP averages 320,000 abortions each year), and Wen was not sufficiently on message. (That mission was always clear to most Americans, but the board explicitly declared it by removing Wen.) Board members also see abortion as primarily a political issue and wanted a social-justice warrior, not a physician like Wen, to lead the charge, especially when so many states are directly challenging Roe v. Wade with restrictions on abortion and the Trump administration implemented a new rule cutting $60 millionin funding from Planned Parenthood.
In a sense, the board is right. The Hippocratic Oath historically taken by physicians says, “I will abstain from all intentional wrong-doing and harm.” (The phrase “first, to do no harm,” is a later development along the same lines.) An abortion by definition harms (i.e., terminates the life of) a preborn human. Ergo, abortion is arguably better understood as a political and cultural issue.
Furthermore, there was the whole issue of Wen not submitting to the transgender movement’s increasing power. She reportedly refused to use “trans-inclusive” language and would not agree that men can have babies. Apparently, in today’s “woke” radical-leftist climate, Planned Parenthood couldn’t be effectively led by someone who believes in that science.
Wen will be replaced temporarily by board member Alexis McGill Johnson during the search for a permanent replacement. Of course, no leader of this massive taxpayer-funded abortion mill is going to be palatable to those who value the sanctity of life, and as long as Planned Parenthood is violating the very right to life given each human by his or her Creator, there will continue to be a political and cultural fight. ~The Patriot Post
