Media Editors:  Government & Politics

ANTI-SEMITIC SPONSORS: National Review’s David French highlights more nefariousness behind the banning of Reps. worthless-Ilhan Omar and worthless-Rashida Tlaib from Israel: “The most important element of the story is the fact that two American congresswomen shunned a bipartisan congressional delegation to Israel to go on an independent trip to Israel sponsored by vicious anti-Semites. Another important element of the story is that, as of today, the mainstream media have whitewashed worthless-Omar and worthless-Tlaib’s vile associations.”

JUDICIAL ACTIVISM QUASHED: Fox News reports: “A federal appeals court sided with the Trump administration on Friday in the legal battle over its efforts to limit asylum claims from Central America — blocking, for now, a nationwide injunction that blocked the implementation of the rule. … The San Francisco federal appeals court for the 9th Circuit on Friday ruled that the injunction imposed by the California federal judge can only apply in states within the court’s jurisdiction in the western U.S.” Our own Arnold Ahlert explains why nationwide injunctions are tyrannical.

commie-SANDERS RACE BAITS: “Declaring the criminal justice system ruined by pervasive racism and ‘corporate profiteering,’ Sen. commie-Bernard Sanders proposed a massive overhaul Sunday that would free many drug convicts, abolish the death penalty and solitary confinement, and promote an unarmed ‘civilian corps’ to replace the police for lower-level calls.” (The Washington Times)

dinky-FAUXCAHONTAS PANDERS: “Presumably as a way to deflect from criticism over her checkered past of claiming Native American ancestry, [Elizabeth] dinky-Warren posted a lengthy proposal on Medium Friday morning in which she vowed to fix some of the problems pertaining to tribal nations,” according to The Daily Wire. “Throughout her lengthy post, dinky-Warren makes several proposals, from making Native Americans a national concern, to affordable housing, to economic opportunities for tribal people, and to respect for native veterans.” Meanwhile, The Washington Times reveals  that dinky-Warren’s binge spending “total[s] more than $5 trillion over a decade. That sum does not include other high-priced items on the liberal wish list such as … government-run health care.”

Culture & Heartland

NAZI SYMPATHIZERS: “A group of high-school students in Southern California gave a Nazi salute and sang a Nazi song during an awards ceremony last year, according to video reviewed by The Daily Beast. The video shows about 10 members of the boys’ water polo team at Pacifica High School in Garden Grove, California, throwing the salute once used to greet Adolf Hitler while singing a Nazi marching song played for German troops during World War II. It’s the second such incident in the region in the year.” (The Daily Beast)

ANTI-JEW ATTACK THWARTED: “An Ohio man has been arrested for making threats toward a local Jewish community center in New Middletown. … On Friday, the FBI Violent Crimes Task Force raided [the man’s] house and seized a cache of weapons and ammunition, including dozens of round[s] of ammo, multiple semi-automatic weapons, a gas mask and bulletproof armor. … [The suspect] is an avowed anti-Semite and white nationalist and attended the deadly ‘Unite the Right’ rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, in 2017… During the raid on his house on Friday police also discovered anti-Semitic and white nationalist propaganda.” (ABC News)

Around the World

FRACTURED BUT NOT BROKEN: According to the Associated Press, an Islamic State jihadi bombed a wedding in Kabul, Afghanistan, over the weekend, killing 63 and wounding 182. “The emergence of the Islamic State affiliate in recent years might be the greatest threat to Afghan civilians as the U.S. and Taliban seek an agreement to end nearly 18 years of fighting,” the AP reports. “While the U.S. wants Taliban assurances that Afghanistan will no longer be used as a launch pad for global terror attacks, there appear to be no guarantees of protection for Afghan civilians.”

BURGEONING SPECTACLE: “Hong Kong protest organizer Civil Human Rights Front estimates more than 1.7 million people gathered in the rain Sunday for the city’s 11th consecutive week of demonstrations. … What started as peaceful protests in June, including a June 9 demonstration that drew an estimated 1 million people, has since escalated, raising concern of potential Chinese military intervention.” (The Daily Caller)

THE SUSPENSE GROWS: “Two Russian nuclear monitoring stations — specifically designed to detect radiation — ‘went silent’ in the days following an explosion of what many believe was a nuclear-powered missile earlier this month during tests at a remote base, a nuclear official said in an email Sunday. … The Guardian reported that radiation levels in Severodvinsk, a nearby city, increased 20 times above normal for about a half hour after the explosion. It has been reported that residents in the area have been stocking up on iodine, which helps reduce the effects of radiation exposure.” (Fox News)

IRANIAN MALFEASANCE: “An Iranian supertanker with $130 million worth of light crude oil that the U.S. suspects is tied to a sanctioned organization has left Gibraltar and was heading Monday east into the Mediterranean Sea, with its next destination reported to be Greece. … The vessel left Gibraltar late on Sunday after having been detained for a month in the British overseas territory for allegedly attempting to breach European Union sanctions on Syria. Gibraltar authorities rejected attempts by the U.S. to seize the oil tanker again, arguing that EU regulations are less strict than U.S. sanctions on Iran. And Tehran on Monday warned Washington against any effort to grab the vessel again.” (CBS News)

gatestoneinstitute.org } ~ Convert, pay or die. Five years ago, that was the "choice" the Islamic State (ISIS) gave to Christians in Mosul, then Iraq's third-largest city... either embrace Islam, submit to a religious tax or face the sword. ISIS then marked Christian houses with the Arabic letter ن (N), the first letter of the Arabic word "Nasrani" ("Nazarene," or "Christian") . Christians could often take no more than the clothes on their back and flee a city that had been home to Christians for 1,700 years. Two years ago, ISIS was defeated in Mosul and its Caliphate crushed. The extremists, however, had succeeded in "cleansing" the Christians. Before the rise of ISIS, there were more than 15,000 Christians there. In July 2019, the Catholic charity, Aid to the Church in Need, disclosed that only about 40 Christians have come back. Not long ago, Mosul had "Christmas celebrations without Christians". This cultural genocide, thanks to the indifference of Europeans and many Western Christians more worried about not appearing "Islamophobic" than defending their own brothers, sadly worked. Father Ragheed Ganni, for instance, a Catholic priest from Mosul, had just finished celebrating mass in his church when Islamists killed him. In one of his last letters, Ganni wrote: "We are on the verge of collapse". That was in 2007 -- almost ten years before ISIS eradicated the Christians of Mosul. "Has the world 'looked the other way' while Christians are killed?" the Washington Post asked. Definitely. Traces of a lost Jewish past have also resurfaced in Mosul, where a Jewish community had also lived for thousands of years. Now, 2,000 years later, both Judaism and Christianity have effectively been annihilated there. That life is over. The newspaper La Vie collected the testimony of a Christian, Yousef the name has been changed, who fled in the night of August 6, 2014, just before ISIS arrived. "It was a real exodus", Yousef said. "The road was black with people, I did not see either the beginning or the end of this procession. There were children were crying, families dragging small suitcases. Old men were on the shoulders of their sons. People were thirsty, it was very hot. We have lost all that we have built for life and nobody fought for us". Some communities, such as the tiny Christian pockets in Mosul, are almost certainly lost forever", wrote two American scholars in Foreign Policy...

theintercept.com } ~ Its's hard to imagine things going much worse for Senate Minority Leader scumbag-Chuck Schumer in 2019... As he preps for the election he has long hoped will make him the majority leader, his prized recruits across the country have spurned him. In Texas, Colorado, and Montana, his top choices have so far turned down Senate runs in exchange for presidential bids. In Georgia, worthless-Stacey Abrams eluded him, her eye still on the governor’s mansion or possibly the vice presidency. In North Carolina, the popular  Democratic attorney general took a pass. In Iowa, scumbag-Schumer tried to coax former Gov. Tom Vilsack into the race, but that fell through. In Kentucky, scumbag-Schumer successfully recruited failed House candidate Amy McGrath into the race, and she immediately imploded. In Maine, Sara Gideon, the statehouse speaker, is running against Susan Collins, but Ady Barkan, the activist who raised some $4 million in pledges for whoever becomes the Democratic nominee, deserves as much credit for that as scumbag-Schumer. During a roundtable interview in July, scumbag-Schumer was asked if he had been having trouble with recruiting. “I have,” he conceded. But along the way, a bevy of new progressive Senate challengers have launched their own highly credible campaigns outside scumbag-Schumer’s orbit, with others threatening to do so. If Democrats do manage to seize the Senate chamber and make scumbag-Schumer the majority leader — gaining four seats, or three seats and the presidency — it will be in large part due to the work of an organized left. But before they can help scumbag-Schumer become majority leader, first they’ll have to get past scumbag-Schumer and the Democratic Senate Campaign Committee. In state after state, the fight at the heart of the Democratic Party is playing out: What kind of candidate is most likely to appeal to voters? In most but not all states, the preferred establishment candidate is white and leans moderate, while the left is in most cases though not all organizing around progressive candidates of color. This is the same battle we saw in the House Democratic primaries in 2018 — one that is also playing out in the 2020 presidential race — and its outcome will shape what kind of party takes power, or doesn’t, in 2021... This would be a very big bad mistake if this happens.  https://theintercept.com/2019/08/15/senate-democrats-2020-chuck-schumer/?utm_source=The+Intercept+Newsletter&utm_campaign=cdf606a4a2-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2019_08_17&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_e00a5122d3-cdf606a4a2-131896129

nationalreview.com } ~ The higher-education system in Finland is supposedly every American progressive’s dream. The Finnish government pays 96 percent of the total cost of providing young Finns with a college education... almost all domestic students at Finnish universities pay nothing in tuition. Indeed, Finland subsidizes its universities more than any other country in the developed world. American advocates of free college say that if Finland can do it, so can we. But there’s a catch to the Finnish model, and it’s not just higher taxes. Finland offers a nice deal for students only if they are lucky and talented enough to get in. In 2016, Finnish institutions of higher education accepted just 33 percent of applicants. That’s the degree of selectivity we’d expect from an elite college in America, yet that is the admissions rate for Finland’s entire  university system. There is a price to pay for that kind of selectivity: Finland ranks in the bottom third of developed countries for college-degree attainment. Meanwhile, the tuition-charging United States ranks in the top third, thanks to open-enrollment policies at many of our colleges and universities, along with private financing and plenty of spots offered through a diverse range of institutions. The Finnish example reveals a reality often glossed over by politicians and activists who advocate mimicking European-style free-college regimes in the United States: government budgets are finite, even when taxes are high. If a government elects to pay for a greater share of each student’s college education, something else has to give. Perhaps the university system will accept fewer applicants and produce fewer graduates, as is the case in Finland. Or maybe it will spend fewer resources per student, potentially lowering the quality of education. Finland is evidence that such tradeoffs are not mere theory or a false choice manufactured by miserly conservatives. Nor is Finland the only country where such stark tradeoffs are on display. In a new report for the American Enterprise Institute, we compare the performance of 35 developed countries on three aspects of their higher-education systems: how many college graduates the system produces, how much funding is available per student overall, and what share of that funding comes from government sources. In a world of finite resources, these three qualities are inherently in tension with one another, and a government that tries to prioritize one quality usually has to sacrifice one of the others...  https://www.nationalreview.com/2019/08/what-european-countries-sacrifice-for-free-college/?utm_source=heritagefoundation&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=theinsider&mkt_tok=eyJpIjoiWkdVM05UbG1ZalUzTUdVeSIsInQiOiIyN3dieXZJeE5WQWJFTHRWMGZHXC84V1wvcElpUitEY3FldVo3NkpWVzBNVnB5SHZkdU9pTDZRcDFlWDl0TFBqUmFLYU9RSzZwbTFrcXErMm9TSmVjdXNocFwvejRXYmxwZkl0bGdWQ0FLcGNEbkFUdHBxZFZISzFMbzcwS09RbUZLTiJ9

freebeacon.com } ~ The European Union is poised to mandate that Israeli products made in contested territories carry consumer warning labels... a decision that could trigger American anti-boycott laws and open up what legal experts describe as a "Pandora's box" of litigation, according to multiple sources involved in the legal dispute who spoke to the Washington Free Beacon. The Advocate General of the European Court of Justice recently issued non-binding opinion arguing that EU law requires Israeli-made products to be labeled as coming from "settlements" and "Israeli colonies." The decision was seen as a major win for supporters of the anti-Semitic Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions movement, or BDS, which seeks to wage economic warfare on Israel and its citizens. Pro-Israel activists, as well as the Jewish businesses involved in the legal dispute, see the decision as an ominous warning sign that they say is reminiscent of Holocaust-era boycotts of Jewish businesses. With the EU court's 15 judge panel now poised to issue its own binding judgment in the case, legal experts are warning that a potential decision mandating such labeling could pave the way for goods from any disputed territory to receive such treatment. The decision also could trigger U.S. anti-boycott laws meant to stop Israeli-made goods from being singled out for unfair treatment on the international market. Brooke Goldstein, a human rights lawyer and executive director of the Lawfare Project, which is involved in the legal dispute, described the EU court's initial decision as "frankly outrageous."...

freebeacon.com } ~ An MSNBC panel speculated Friday afternoon about potentially removing President Donald Trump from office due to his mental state... pointing to reports he is exhibiting "signs that were similar to the early stages of Alzheimer's." "He attacked a man who turned out to be one of his own supporters," host Nicolle Wallace said. "I don't know where there are many schools in America you can bully somebody like that and not get suspended."  Wallace  referenced a supporter who was removed from a Trump rally after the President made fun of his weight. Afterward, the supporter said Trump had nothing to apologize for and that "he's the best thing that ever happened to this country." "Trump repeated points he had already made earlier in the evening as if he did not remember already making them," Wallace said. "David Brooks reported in 2017 that a bunch of Republicans came out of a meeting where Donald Trump explained some signs that were similar to the early stages of Alzheimer's." She continued that "in and out of the rooms people, either disparagingly or affectionately, are saying at an increased clip, he's crazy." "You know, there's pervasive reporting in this regard and if it was grandpa, you would probably take him to see a neurologist or someone who specializes in geriatric medicine. That hasn't happened here that we know of," said Joyce Vance, a former U.S. attorney. "The remedy is the 25th Amendment and that requires an intact cabinet, which Trump does not have. Whether by design or by accident, most of the cabinet is acting. We don't know what the mix would look like in a vote, and there's no will to take that on in any event."...  Nicolle Wallace your hatred stands alone on this.   https://freebeacon.com/politics/msnbc-host-analysts-speculate-about-removing-trump-from-office/

Socialism Never?

Cal Thomas

President Trump has repeatedly promised, “America will never be a socialist country.” Since Franklin Roosevelt began expanding government in the 1930s, the United States has increasingly adopted big-state policies associated with socialism.

We may not be at the stage commie-Bernie Sanders would advocate, but more millennials appear to favor a system under which they have never lived. Free stuff is appealing until one realizes its costs.

In an attempt to reach Generation Z — those in their teens and 20s — a new organization is starting this month to combat socialism’s appeal.

It’s called Young Americans Against Socialism" (yaas.org), according to its site, a nonpartisan nonprofit “dedicated to exposing socialism’s failures to young Americans by creating viral educational videos for social media.” Its founder, Morgan Zegers, worries that “more than half of young people believe socialism should be implemented in America.” The reason, she says, is because many of them know little about it. Her campaign will be largely on social media where she notes young people spend hours every day.

“Yaas is taking the Left’s tactics of injecting emotion into everything,” she says, “and throwing it right back in their faces.” One Yaas video includes statements by two men. One, Raydel Armas, says he escaped Cuba by “windsurfing for 10 hours.” The other, Daniel Di Martino, a Venezuelan, challenges Sanders’ promotion of socialism.

commie-Sanders is shown in a video from the ‘70s in which he calls food lines in some countries “a good thing,” presumably referring to non-socialist countries. “The rich,” he claims, “get the food and the poor starve to death.” Daniel Di Martino responds, “It wasn’t that I was rich; it was because politicians like him destroyed my country.”

Armas suggests young people who wear Che Guevara T-shirts are ignorant of history and of the number of people Guevara killed during and after the Cuban revolution. Surveys back him up.

In a 2017 opinion column for The New York Post, Karol Markowicz cited a 2014 report by the National Assessment of Educational Progress that showed “an abysmal 18 percent of American high school kids were proficient in U.S. history. When colleges such as Stanford decline to require Western Civilization classes or high schools propose changing their curriculum so that history is taught only from 1877 onward … it’s merely a blip in our news cycle.”

Markowicz also noted a 2012 story in Perspectives on History magazine by University of North Carolina professor Bruce VanSledright, who found that “88 percent of elementary school teachers considered teaching history a low priority.”

While the reasons are varied, she says, “VanSledright found that teachers didn’t focus on history because students aren’t tested on it at the state level. Why teach something you can’t test?”

When history is taught, especially at many liberal universities, there is often a bias against America because of slavery and the “invasion” of white Europeans who killed and displaced Native Americans. Markowicz concluded, “We talk often about how fractured our country has become. That our division increases while school kids are taught less and less about our shared history should come as no surprise.”

In her video, Zegers says, “Capitalism has lifted more people out of poverty than any other economic system.” Even China, though still officially communist and socialist, has had to adopt more of the principles characteristic of capitalism to lift large numbers of people from poverty.

Socialism has long needed pushback in America from those opposed to it. President Trump has begun pointing out how harmful it is elsewhere. Zegers hopes to target young Americans with testimonies from people who have lived under the reality of socialism.  ~The Patriot Post
