{freebeacon.com} ~ President Trump announced a major shift in U.S. defense strategy on Thursday, ordering the Pentagon to rapidly expand current missile defenses and build new interceptors... space sensors, and advanced technology to neutralize foreign missiles at multiple stages of attack. The president announced during a speech at the Pentagon that missile defenses, currently limited to countering North Korean long-range missiles and future Iranian missiles, will no longer be constrained to rogue states. American missile defense systems will be expanded and new capabilities added that for the first time will prepare to counter much larger and increasingly advanced missile threats from Russia and China. "Our goal is simple: To be sure we can detect and destroy any missile launched against the United States, anywhere, any time, and any place," Trump said...

{freebeacon.com} ~ Beto O'Rourke is lost. The former Democratic congressman, who unsuccessfully challenged Ted Cruz in last year's election, has spent the last few weeks in a confused and melancholy state... Something possessed him to share images from a recent dental cleaning, perhaps the grossest introduction of a potential presidential candidate in the nation's history. He gave an interview to the Washington Post where the only specific plank in his immigration platform was opposition to President Trump's border wall. In the same interview, he mused that the Constitution may no longer apply to the United States, since we're an "empire" with troops deployed around the globe and "trading agreements." Then he published a blog post that read like wannabe Kerouac. "Learned about pump storage, battery technology, the role that production tax credits have had in making New Mexico a leader in wind energy production," he wrote. O'Rourke himself has no trouble generating hot air. Beto isn't merely the slightly flaky, out-of-work husband of a real-estate heiress. He's running  third in polls of the 2020 Democratic presidential field. His emo style and recent missteps exemplify the weaknesses and vulnerabilities of the likely Democratic contenders. Judging from polls, Donald Trump is headed toward a one-term presidency. His best chance for reelection is pulling an opponent he can make as unpopular as he is. The Democrats seem more than willing to help him. In 1988, Democrats fielded the "seven dwarves" against George H.W. Bush. The 2020 cycle is shaping up to include 20 Smurfs. Trump is Gargamel. The possible candidacy of Joe Biden links the two elections. His 1988 bid went nowhere, much like his run two decades later. Today, after eight years as Barack scumbag/liar-nObama's vice president, Biden is among the most popular Democrats in the country and leads the 2020 field. A poll last August had him beating Trump by seven points. But Biden faces significant hurdles before he reaches the general election. As much as Democrats like him, they'd also like to see "someone new." Biden's age (76), record of bipartisanship, insider status, and white hetero-normative cisgendered male identity might hinder his chances in the primary. It's noteworthy that former scumbag/liar-nObama advisers haven't swung behind him. Some have been talking up Beto, and others have encouraged additional candidates to enter the race. There's a reluctance to embrace Biden reminiscent of Republican wariness toward Mitt Romney in 2012...

Democrats, MSNBC Should Punish Their
Lindsey Graham Gay-Baiters

{freebeacon.com} ~ Senator Lindsey Graham (R., S.C.) has taken to defending President Donald Trump, despite his rather harsh criticism of Trump during the 2016 election... The simple explanation for this turnabout is strategy: Graham and Trump see eye-to-eye on a lot of policies and Trump is wildly popular among the South Carolina GOP base. After the moderate senator began defending the president, his support among South Carolina Republicans went up a whopping 21 points. On the other hand, maybe Trump has evidence that Lindsey Graham has unusual sexual inclinations, and is secretly forcing his hand. That's the theory being floated on ol' Twitter dot com, first going viral after a tweet from Democratic strategist, Resistance hero, and noted dumbass Jon Cooper. Now purely by coincidence, a few days later MSNBC host Stephanie Ruhle said on air that maaaaybe Lindsey Graham had some dark secret and that's why he was suddenly supportive of Trump. "It could be that Donald Trump or somebody knows something pretty extreme about Lindsey Graham,"  Ruhle said. "We’re gonna have to leave it there." The next day, another popular Resistance Twitter account with the handle @MuslimIQ tweeted "I can’t even imagine what they have on Graham." "They got to him, he is compromised!" responded Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar. Even if the Cooper tweet never existed, anyone who has spent more than two minutes following politics knows the Lindsey Graham rumor is that he's gay. This is not a secret. Graham has addressed the rumors head on and on the record. When you talk about some tawdry secret Graham has, it's his sexuality. End of story...These dems are really sick and all they say is not true.  https://freebeacon.com/blog/democrats-msnbc-should-punish-their-lindsey-graham-gay-baiters/?utm_source=Freedom+Mail&utm_campaign=0013b4493b-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2019_01_17_11_09_COPY_144&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_b5e6e0e9ea-0013b4493b-45611665

Alan Dershowitz: The
Atlantic's Impeachment Argument Flawed

{newsmax.com} ~ Harvard Law professor emeritus Alan Dershowitz said The Atlantic's reasoning for why President Donald Trump should be impeached is flawed and does not comply with the specific provisions of the Constitution... "as it was written." Yoni Appelbaum, a senior editor at The Atlantic Magazine, on Thursday wrote Trump's actions are an "attack on the very foundations of America's constitutional democracy" and called on the House of Representatives to immediately open a formal impeachment inquiry. The president, he says, has failed to keep his oath of office and "routinely privileged his self-interest above the responsibilities of the presidency." Additionally, Appelbaum said Trump has "demanded that public officials put their loyalty to him ahead of their duty to the public," "evinced little respect for the rule of law" and has "repeatedly trampled upon" Constitutional rights. Dershowitz called Appelbaum's piece interesting and challenging, but said his argument is not valid as he "wants us to violate the Constitution, as it relates to impeachment." His criteria, argues Dershowitz, could also "be applied to nearly every president." "We should not violate the Constitution in order to 'safeguard' it," he adds.

Pulosi's SOTU Political Play
iesNh4XDCl4AOtCPzIxOPhdb7mP2QbRWWFd69OPuGHnBeffOlZnC0jZmNA2WJ2jSzGQ249S5X_Y8rsU9BZ2Rs96Wu6ZcREQ4URenc8IH2JIcbbRDdWAUfVFDQZ6EHw5dESJSsi6D8JiU4jE9q0OV_TcG9ND1wc00SxdDmcs=s0-d-e1-ft#%3Ca%20rel%3Dnofollow%20href=?profile=RESIZE_710x
by Jordan Candler:  House Speaker Nancy Pulosi issued this appeal to President Donald Trump yesterday:

On January 3rd, it was my privilege as Speaker to invite you to deliver the State of the Union address on January 29th. …

The U.S. Secret Service was designated as the lead federal agency responsible for coordinating, planning, exercising, and implementing security for National Special Security Events by Public Law 106-544, December 19, 2000. However, both the U.S. Secret Service and the Department of Homeland Security have not been funded for 26 days now — with critical departments hamstrung by furloughs.

Sadly, given the security concerns and unless government re-opens this week, I suggest that we work together to determine another suitable date after government has re-opened for this address or for you to consider delivering your State of the Union address in writing to the Congress on January 29th.

DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen immediately contradicted Pulosi’s assertion, saying the Secret Service is “fully prepared” for the SOTU. Pulosi responded curtly, “I don’t care what they say.
Ed Morrissey quips, "And with that, the new Speaker of the House just made the best case possible for a perpetual shutdown. Kidding! What I meant to say was that Nancy Pulosi has finally sounded a note of wisdom, at least in her reminder that presidents used to just deliver a report in writing to Congress.” Indeed they did. As Pulosi also noted, “During the 19th Century and up until the presidency of Woodrow Wilson, these annual State of the Union messages were delivered to Congress in writing.”
Morrissey rightly says this is “a tradition worth restoring, especially to reverse the treatment of the president as some kind of feudal lord in Congress.
Philip Klein chimes in, “There may be times when it makes sense for a president to address a joint session of Congress in front of the whole nation, such as when former President George W. Bush spoke to the nation after the Sept. 11 attacks and laid out his vision for fighting the ‘war on terror.’ But as an annual staged event, the State of the Union is pointless. In an era of the 24/7 news, the Internet, and social media, there is no reason for networks to provide airtime to this event. The president has endless tools at his disposal to make his case to Congress and the country.
Meanwhile, Pulosi is hardly acting with honorable intentions here. As Morrissey points out, “Pulosi’s not looking to restore the proper co-equal-branch dynamics under the Constitution. She was delighted to offer regal hosannas to Barack scumbag/liar-nObama, and she’d be equally delighted to offer them to President Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez or President Jill Stein, for that matter. She just doesn’t want Trump using Congress to beat up Democrats over the wall.”
Indeed, security has nothing to do with her political theater. It’s entirely within Pulosi’s power to end the shutdown, which would render a SOTU delay completely unnecessary. But blocking funding for border security isn’t the only thing she’s after. She also wants to stifle her opponents’ justification for standing their ground. That’s called having your cake and eating it too.
If Trump decides to continue with the address, Ben Shapiro offers this salient advice: “Trump should do a remote State of the Union from the border and feature Border Patrol agents and Angel Moms.”
