Coronavirus and China: Beijing’s Behavior
Confirms How Bad the Brand Truly Is

{ dailysignal.com } ~ Long before the coronavirus made international headlines, China’s Communist Party, which rules the country with unchallenged authority, had an image problem... Image has always been a key element of Beijing’s plan to rise to global greatness. It has worked assiduously to carve a reputation as an unstoppable power wading well into the midst of world affairs. Today, however, that carefully crafted image is badly tattered. It’s worse than it was just one year ago when nations that eagerly participated in China’s Belt and Road Initiative began to realize that Chinese “aid” was a two-edged sword. No one has done more to damage China’s international reputation than Beijing itself. Hopefully, the coronavirus outbreak will help more and more governments recognize the truth behind the image: The Chinese Communist Party is not to be trusted. To be fair, the Chinese response to the coronavirus thus far has been much better than its response to the severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) in Southern China in 2002. Still, that’s not saying much. The SARS response was abysmal. China moved slowly, concealing the seriousness of the disease for months. As a result, the illness spread to more than 8,000 people in more than two dozen countries. Nearly 800 died. While China has been at least somewhat more forthcoming and preemptive in its efforts to corral the coronavirus, its performance leaves much to be desired. Let’s start with how the virus began. The outbreak has been traced back to the Hunan Seafood Market in Wuhan China. It is a “wet market,” a labyrinth of ramshackle stalls hawking live fish, meat, and wild animals...

{ ijr.com } ~ Following President Donald Trump’s acquittal in the Senate’s impeachment trial, Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) announced a new Constitutional amendment to increase the vote threshold in the House of Representatives for impeachment... “I’m introducing a constitutional amendment that raises the threshold to approve articles of impeachment in the House to 3/5 Super Majority vote,” Scott wrote on Twitter. “The partisan charade liar-Nancy Pelosi and House Democrats made of this impeachment process over the last few months shows that the fears of our Founding Fathers were realized,” Scott said in a statement. “They warned that impeachment could be used as a partisan tool by partisan actors. The Democrats used the impeachment process to hurt President Trump, regardless of the outcome of the Senate trial. It’s a dangerous precedent, and the process has to change.”Currently, the Constitution requires a simple majority, or 218 votes, but Scott’s new amendment would require a supermajority, or 261 House members, to pass articles of impeachment. The House voted on December 18 to pass two articles of impeachment against Trump. Both articles were approved mostly along party lines. Democrats currently hold a 232-seat majority. If such an amendment were ratified, they would need roughly 30 Republicans to join to pass articles of impeachment. Republicans repeatedly argued that House Democrats’ impeachment effort was driven by “partisan rage,” noting that Democrats control the lower chamber and could advance articles of impeachment without any Republican support. Scott’s amendment would significantly raise the bar for impeachment and require overwhelming, bipartisan support. “An act as divisive must have bipartisan backing and overwhelming support. It should be hard — much harder — for either political party to take the process our Founders created as a last resort against a tyrannical leader and use it instead as a tool for the tyranny of a political majority,” Scott added. The Constitution already requires similarly high-bar of a two-thirds majority, or 67 senators, to convict and remove a president in an impeachment trial. Getting such an amendment ratified would be a tall order as it requires three-fourths of the states to ratify any amendment — after the amendment was proposed by either a two-thirds majority in both chambers Congress or a constitutional convention called by two-thirds of the states.   https://ijr.com/senator-introduces-amendment-super-majority-house-impeachment/

{ timesofisrael.com } ~ At least 12 soldiers were wounded, including one seriously, in a suspected car-ramming terror attack in Jerusalem early Thursday morning, police and medics said... The incident occurred shortly before 2 a.m. on Jerusalem’s David Remez Street near the First Station, a popular entertainment hub. Police said the driver of the vehicle fled the scene and “a large force of officers were carrying out searches.” The car was later found abandoned in the town of Beit Jala outside Bethlehem, but the driver remained at large as of Thursday morning, police said. The military initially barred publication of the fact that the victims were soldiers until the families of the wounded could be notified. IDF Spokesperson Hidai Zilberman said the troops were members of the Golani Brigade who were at the First Station during a “heritage tour” ahead of an early morning swearing-in ceremony at the Western Wall. Magen David Adom medics said one of the wounded “was in a serious condition, unconscious and suffering major trauma.” A second soldier was moderately injured with wounds to his limbs. The rest were lightly hurt and were taken to hospitals in the capital. “When we arrived at the scene we saw chaos; three youths were lying on the sidewalk, and nearby nine others were gathered who had been hurt,” said medic Oz Pollak. MDA initially said that in total 14 people were injured, but the military later updated this figure, saying that 12 had been wounded in the attack to varying degrees...  https://www.timesofisrael.com/12-wounded-1-seriously-in-suspected-car-ramming-attack-in-jerusalem/?utm_source=The+Daily+Edition&utm_campaign=daily-edition-2020-02-06&utm_medium=email

commie-Bernie Sanders declares victory
in Iowa, the second 2020 Democrat to do so

{ washingtonexaminer.com } ~ Voters may not have a full picture of what exactly happened during the Iowa caucuses, but Sen. commie-Bernie Sanders is confident that he won the contest... At a Thursday press conference Thursday afternoon in New Hampshire, commie-Sanders attacked the Iowa Democratic Party for its oversight of its caucuses on Monday, while maintaining a triumphant tone on the results. “What I want to do today, three days late, is to thank the people of Iowa for the very strong victory they gave us in the Iowa Caucuses," commie-Sanders said. As of Thursday, 97% of precincts had reported results. Although former South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg is leading in the traditional way of counting a winner — known as state delegate equivalents — commie-Sanders maintains a lead in the raw vote count. “These state delegate equivalents have greatly diminished importance from past caucuses. And they should. In the past," said commie-Sanders, "a candidate with more delegates to the state and county conventions could actually change the number of national delegates — delegates that go to the national convention — from that allocated on caucus night. That is no longer the case.” When asked if the discrepancies in the vote count made him rethink the results of the previous Iowa caucus, commie-Sanders told the Washington Examiner that he didn't "want to revisit 2016," but made it clear he still had questions. "Now, I can’t give you a definitive answer as to what happened in 2016, I don’t know, I don’t think anybody knows. It turned out that in 2016, I think, Secretary scumbag/liar-Clinton got one or two more delegates than we got in the state process. There is some supposition that we actually won the popular vote, I can’t say definitively," he said. "I can say definitively that in 2020, we did win the popular — now I want to reiterate do, so we’re clear, You got 180,000 people voting, when you got eight candidates, when you win the popular vote by 6000 votes, that is a pretty good victory.”...  https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/bernie-sanders-declares-victory-in-iowa-the-second-2020-democrat-to-do-so?utm_source=breaking_push&utm_medium=app&utm_campaign=push_notifications&utm_source=WEX_Breaking%20News%20Alert_02/06/2020&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=WEX_Breaking%20News&rid=5261

Levin on rino-Romney: 'A Petty, Self-Promoting, NeverTrumper' Who Voted Against
the Constitution

{ cnsnews.com } ~ In reference to Sen. rino-Mitt Romney's (R-Utah) decision to vote "guilty" in the impeachment trial of President Donald Trump -- the only Republican to vote with the Democrats... conservative talk-radio icon Mark Levin said the Utah senator was "a petty, self-promoting, NeverTrumper" who joined with "radical Democrats" in their "assault on the Constitution." On the Senate floor on Feb. 5, rino-Romney said, "The president is guilty of an appalling abuse of public trust....  A flagrant assault on our electoral rights, our national security, and our fundamental values. Corrupting an election to keep oneself in office is perhaps the most abusive and destructive violation of one's oath of office that I can imagine." In an interview before his vote with FNC's Chris Wallace, rino-Romney said, "There is a hymn, do what is right and that the consequence follows. I know in my heart that I'm doing what's right. The worst thing that already happened to me politically was losing the presidency in 2012." Mark Levin, on Facebook and on Twitter, remarked, "rino-Romney votes against Constitution with his vote today to remove a sitting president. The media and Democrats are quick to celebrate their only Republican vote. Some outlets seem to have known in advance. Imagine that. Endless softball interviews will follow." "rino-Romney believes history will judge him as a courageous lone voice," said Levin. "It won’t. He’ll be seen for what he is: a petty, self-promoting, NeverTrumper who has contributed to the Radical Democrats’ assault on the Constitution." "While he’ll receive nonstop praise from the usual members of the unfree press, his vote is unprincipled despite his references to his faith. Shameful," said Levin.  "There will be plenty of time to further elaborate in the days and weeks ahead."

Just because the Senate is about to acquit President Trump of charges Republicans believed never rose to the level of “high crimes and misdemeanors,” don’t think Democrats will raise the white flag of surrender. They (and their media allies) have only just begun.

Next is a campaign to defeat enough of the 23 Republican senators up for re-election and, if possible (it doesn’t look possible, but this is February), keep President Trump from winning re-election.

Democrats have virtually no issues on which to run, except the promise of free stuff — from Elizabeth dinky/liar-Warren’s student loan forgiveness plan, which does nothing for those who struggled to pay off their student loans without assistance, to commie-Bernie Sanders’ free Medicare for All.

A new Gallup poll released last week shows how difficult it will be for Democrats.

According to Gallup, 41 percent of Americans “are satisfied with the way things are going in the U.S.” That’s the highest satisfaction level in 15 years. Seventy-two percent of Republicans are satisfied, a number likely to grow if the economy remains strong and there is stability in international affairs. Only 14 percent of Democrats are satisfied. That is likely, in part, because President Trump is racking up success after success without any cooperation from the other party. If Democrats had cooperated on at least some issues (other than the new trade agreement between the U.S., Canada and Mexico) they might have been able to legitimately claim some credit, but their opposition to all things Trump and their attempts to undo the results of the 2016 election leaves them out in the political cold.

What is most remarkable about this Gallup poll is that it was taken in the middle of the Senate impeachment trial and in the face of some of the most hostile media coverage any president has ever had to endure in modern times.

According to the conservative Media Research Center, which monitors the broadcast network’s evening news programs, “… evening news coverage of the opening arguments of both sides, found ABC, CBS, and NBC did not live up to the standard they demanded of Republicans. They gave Democrats double the airtime and showered their arguments with mostly praise, while expressing only criticism of the President’s legal team.”

The New York Times and Washington Post have cast aside any cloak of fairness by going anti-Trump nonstop. Their news coverage, editorials and virtually all of their columnists are constantly looking for new ways to express opposition to and hatred of the president. One advantage for readers is that it is easier to get through those papers because they have become predictable and tiresome.

Democrats may feel good about this as they keep company with their media fellow travelers, but President Trump is newly empowered to take his case for four more years of prosperity and relative peace to the public. Every Democrat running for president would raise taxes, giving more money to Washington, which cannot constrain its spending lust under either party. As taxes rise, so would unemployment because many businesses would no longer be able to afford workers they hired during the economic boom.

Look for more investigations — perhaps additional allegations and articles of impeachment — and more “leaks” from former Trump staffers between now and the election. The only way to stop this is for Republicans to regain a House majority and maintain their majority in the Senate.

Barring an unforeseeable disaster (always a possibility), Trump is positioned to win re-election, perhaps in a landslide, which will send the left and most of the media into another deep depression.
