{thehill.com} ~ The House Intelligence Committee plans to question Felix Sater, the longtime business associate of President Trump involved in efforts to build a Trump property in Moscow,.. in a public hearing in March, committee Chairman scumbag-Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) told reporters Thursday.  scumbag-Schiff said the open hearing with Sater is scheduled for March 14 and would focus on the Trump Moscow discussions. Sater, a Russian-born businessman who served as managing director for the New York-based real estate firm the Bayrock Group, worked with former Trump attorney Michael Cohen to move the real estate project forward, though it never came to fruition. scumbag-Schiff announced the hearing after a daylong closed-door testimony from Cohen, which was widely expected to focus on the Trump Moscow discussions. In November, Cohen pleaded guilty to lying to the House and Senate Intelligence committees about the extent to which the Moscow project was discussed within the Trump Organization. His testimony was part of a deal to cooperate in special counsel dirty cop-Robert Mueller’s investigation...
More Than 100 House Dems: Our Healthcare Bill

{townhall.com} ~ More than 100 House Democrats -- nearly half of the new majority -- have signed on to a new single-payer healthcare bill that supporters describe as "battle ready."... If by "battle ready," they mean, "extremely controversial, deeply politically risky, and totally bereft of any acknowledgement of the proposal's eye-poppingly exorbitant costs," they're undoubtedly correct. Politico's story on the legislation is full of extraordinary tidbits and quotes. Here are some of the most important facts we've learned  (1) The bill "doesn’t include a price tag or specific proposals for financing the new system, which analysts estimate would cost tens of trillions of dollars over a decade." The lead sponsor of the bill says her crew will release a list of "suggested funding mechanisms" at some point in the future. One of these mechanisms, we're told, is "a tax on high earners." If you've been following this debate, you're well aware that targeted taxes on 'the rich' would be woefully insufficient in raising even a fraction of the expected cost. Enormous tax hikes on all Americans would be necessary. This math is not seriously disputed. And given the comprehensiveness of the proposed 'benefits' in this bill it goes even farther than commie-Bernie Sanders' Senate version, some experts are already estimating that its price tag which, again, is missing entirely from the legislation could be on the order of $40 trillion over its first ten years. This would require roughly doubling  the entire federal budget, which already runs a significant annual deficit. It's possible that they believe this plan to be "battle ready" because it hides the ball on cost, allowing proponents to mumble about hazy "investments" instead of confronting real numbers. (2) Via NBC News, "The legislation's most contentious provision would end private health insurance and replace it with a government system."  Yes, virtually all private coverage would be outlawed, forcing every single American into an innovation-crushing, government-run system. Approximately 177 million Americans currently receive private health insurance, either through their employers, or directly from insurers. The  vast majority of these people are satisfied with their coverage, according to Gallup. All of these people would be uprooted from their existing plans and funneled into the federal bureaucracy. On the matter of ripping people away from their existing status quo, this proposal gets worse -- both practically and politically: For years, Democrats have attacked Republicans for "ending Medicare as we know it," often resorting to demagoguery and falsehoods. This scheme would literally end Medicare, creating a brand new, massive entitlement that seniors and Medicaid recipients would have no choice but to join. Please recall that Medicare is already becoming fiscally insolvent at an alarming rate, and that Medicaid is already terribly strained  under the weight of its current recipient pool expanded under scumbag/liar-nObamacare. Only recipients of the deeply broken VA and Native American health services would be able to keep their plans. In addition to Medicaid, both of these federally-facilitated programs have faced serious crises on access to care and wait times. And again, we have no idea how Democrats would pay for any of this -- and neither do they...

{dailycaller.com} ~ As Congress debates the Green New Deal resolution to transition the U.S. economy to “net-zero” greenhouse gas emissions... a Texas town struggles under the growing financial burden of going green. Georgetown has spent $30 million since it began its transition to 100 percent renewable energy in 2016, and, now, city officials are lashing out at local reporters and a conservative think tank for scrutinizing the cost to taxpayers. “The entire 100 percent renewable claim is misleading,” Bill Peacock, vice president of research conservative Texas Public Policy Foundation (TPPF), told The Daily Caller News Foundation. TPPF has been holding public hearings with angry Georgetown residents since last fall. The group also called out the city’s renewable energy claim that it runs solely on renewable power. Peacock said the city’s “dogged, almost blind pursuit of renewables” has cost residents $30 million, maybe more, in additional electricity costs because of how it structured its contracts.  Georgetown, with a population of roughly 70,000 people, is reportedly the largest U.S. city to claim to run on 100 percent renewable electricity... Make sure your city reps reject this Green deal.

{dailycaller.com} ~ The New York Police Department (NYPD) issued warnings to its officers regarding MS-13’s plans to “hit” their homes while they are off duty... to improve the gang’s “street credibility.” The 105th precinct in the Queens borough of New York City issued the warning Tuesday, according to a New York Post report, which cites an internal memo stating that the gang plans to “hit” officers’ homes in the Long Island area. “Intel has been obtained that members of MS13 are looking to ‘hit’ NYPD police officers,” the memo states, “specifically in the Brentwood/Central Islip area, as well as possibly Patchogue in order to gain street credibility. These members are conducting reconnaissance of member of service private residences.”Law enforcement was advised in the memo to “always be cognizant,” be aware of their surroundings, change up their regular daily routines, and look out for suspicious vehicles or activity. “Out of an abundance of caution, an officer safety alert was sent of an unverified threat by MS13 targeting law enforcement officers,”  NYPD spokeswoman Sgt. Jessica McRorie said...

{nationalpost.com} ~ In a stunning appearance before the House of Commons justice committee Wednesday, former justice minister Jody Wilson-Raybould accused... the entire senior ranks of the federal government of making ‘veiled threats’ against her while attempting to interfere politically in the criminal prosecution of SNC-Lavalin. Sitting alone at a table in a packed basement room in Parliament’s West Block, Wilson-Raybould told the committee’s MPs that over a four-month period in late 2018 she was pressured by finance minister Bill Morneau and his staff, Clerk of the Privy Council Michael Wernick, senior aides in the Prime Minister’s Office including former principal secretary Gerald Butts and chief of staff Katie Telford, and even Prime Minister Justin Trudeau himself — all of whom were eager for her to direct federal prosecutors to defer the prosecution of SNC-Lavalin on corruption and fraud charges and negotiate a remediation agreement instead. “For a period of approximately four months between September and December of 2018 I experienced a consistent and sustained effort by many people in the government to seek to politically interfere in the exercise of prosecutorial discretion,” Wilson-Raybould said. Wilson-Raybould said partisan concerns were repeatedly raised in connection with the SNC-Lavalin case, including by Trudeau, who she claims pointed out to her in a September conversation that he was himself a Quebec MP and raised the political consequences of prosecuting a large Montreal-based company during the then-ongoing Quebec election...

by Political Editors:   Who needs Russians to run a disinformation campaign when there are American leftists creating “deepfake” news? After the 2018 midterms, a wealthy Democrat became embroiled in controversy when it was reported that he had heavily bankrolled a false-flag operation in Alabama. Back in December, Internet billionaire Reid Hoffman apologized for his part in funding a high-tech disinformation campaign that sought to undermine support for Republican Roy Moore and boost Democrat Doug Jones.

Just after Christmas, The Washington Post reported, “Hoffman invested $750,000 in one group, American Engagement Technologies, or AET, according to a person close to the matter but not authorized to discuss Hoffman’s spending. Hoffman’s statement Wednesday referred to AET, which has been linked to a campaign to spread disinformation targeting Moore.” The Post further reported, “Hoffman’s public apology follows news reports on the effort, known as Project Birmingham, which involved the creation of misleading Facebook pages to persuade Alabama conservatives to vote for somebody other than Moore.”

While the promulgation of fake news is disgusting in and of itself, there is a more sinister aspect to this story that has many on both sides of the political aisle ringing alarm bells. As reported by The Guardian, “The creators of a revolutionary AI [artificial intelligence] system that can write news stories and works of fiction — dubbed ‘deepfakes for text’ — have taken the unusual step of not releasing their research publicly, for fear of potential misuse.”

The nonprofit research company known as OpenAI, founded in 2015 by Hoffman, Peter Thiel, Sam Altman, and Elon Musk (who left the company last year over his disagreements with the direction the team wanted to go), finds itself at the center of controversy. The Daily Caller notes that “lawmakers sounded alarms in January about so-called deepfake videos that look remarkably real, with some experts warning they will be the next phase in disinformation campaigns. They worry that this new type of AI can make it difficult for readers and social media users to distinguish fact from fiction.”

Senate Intelligence Committee Vice Chairman Mark Warner (D-VA) last month lamented, “It is almost too late to sound the alarm before this technology is released — it has been unleashed … and now we are playing a bit of defense.”

This is indeed a problem, and it will only get worse as nefarious individuals and organizations work to weaponize AI technology in order to manipulate the masses with disinformation. It also provides some justification for the creation of “crediting houses” such as NewsGuard, which aims to provide a service designed to inform individuals on the credibility of various news sites. Although it’s far from perfect or free from bias, the recognition of the problem is real, and the need for conservatives to be involved in the process of “balancing” the vetting of news is imperative.
