{thehill.com} ~ Lawyers for Glenn Simpson, co-founder of Fusion GPS, told the head of the House Judiciary Committee on Thursday... that his client will “invoke his constitutional rights not to testify,” defying a GOP-issued subpoena seeking to compel him to give a closed-door deposition. The lawyers told Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) in an electronic letter that Simpson will not participate in the committee’s inquiry because it “is not designed to discover the truth.”“Consistent with the September 27, 2018 letter we sent to you, Mr. Simpson, whose testimony is a matter of public record, will not be participating in a confidential deposition before this Committee,” lawyers for Simpson wrote, according to a copy of the letter obtained by The Hill. “He will instead invoke his constitutional rights not to testify under the First and Fifth Amendments of the Constitution.” The lawyers, who declined the committee’s initial request for an interview late last month, blasted the joint investigation being led by Judiciary and the House Oversight and Government Reform committees as a partisan-driven probe aimed at undermining the ongoing investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential campaign....

{washingtontimes.com} ~ The Senate confirmed 15 of President Trump’s judicial picks Thursday night after GOP leaders reached a deal with dummycrats-Democrats... clearing about a third of the backlog and closing up shop through Election Day to give senators a chance to campaign. Three of the judges are for the powerful circuit courts of appeals, while the other 12 were for district court positions. Many cleared on near-party line votes, while others were approved by voice votes. They were the first judicial confirmations since last weekend’s vote on Supreme Court Justice Brett M. Kavanaugh. Some Republicans had hoped senators would stay in town to work on all 49 judicial picks who’d been ready for floor votes. But the 15 was the best deal the GOP could get, representing the amount of judges who could realistically have been confirmed if the Senate had devoted full time to confirmations over the next few weeks....

Ground Beef: "CDC, public health and regulatory officials in several states, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service are investigating a multistate outbreak of Salmonella Newport infections linked to ground beef produced by JBS Tolleson, Inc." Deli Ham: “CDC and public health and regulatory officials in several states are investigating a multistate outbreak of Listeria monocytogenes infections linked to ready-to-eat deli ham produced by Johnston County Hams, Inc. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (USDA-FSIS) is monitoring this outbreak.” Poultry: “The Virginia and Georgia departments of health are investigating a multistate outbreak of psittacosis occurring at two poultry slaughter plants owned by a single corporation. CDC and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) are assisting with the investigation.” Cage-Free Eggs: “On September 8, 2018, Gravel Ridge Farms recalled cage-free large eggs because they might be contaminated with Salmonella.”....

Ranking of Best- and Worst-Run States Exposes dummycrats-Dem Failureby Thomas Gallatin: The Mercatus Center at George Mason University has released its latest ranking of states by their fiscal condition. And it comes as no surprise that nine out of the top 10 most fiscally sound states are Republican-run, whereas nine out of the bottom 10 worst states are dummycrats-Democrat-run. The Mercatus Center ranks the states based on five categories that include: cash solvency, budget solvency, ability to meet long-term spending commitments, state spending and taxes as a share of personal income, and unfunded pensions liabilities and debt.
These latest state rankings are not an anomaly but rather the continuation of a long-running trend. As Investor’s Business Daily notes, “Of the 10 states that show up most frequently at the bottom of the list since 2006, nine are solid blue states. Of the 10 states with consistently the best record, all but one are solidly red states.”
Another significant aspect that readily rises to the forefront when comparing the data is that the states imposing the highest tax rates are also the worst-run states. As IBD insightfully observes, “The best-run states show greater respect for taxpayers than the worst-run states.”
However, in spite of all the data and clear evidence warning against the demonstrably bankrupt and untenable policies of socialism, dummycrats-Democrats have chosen only to double down in continuing their march to the hard-left. How else does one explain their calls for “Medicare-for-all” while they avoid answering how they would pay for the $32.6 trillion price tag? dummycrats-Democrats, like snake-oil salesmen, are trying to sell the nation a stinky bag of failed socialist garbage by appealing to fairness. The truth is that for dummycrats-Democrats it’s not really about serving their fellow citizens by looking out for their best interests; rather it’s all about selling impossible promises couched in faux morality in order to secure power for themselves. Nothing else explains the long-term fiscal irresponsibility practiced by dummycrats-Democrat-run states.
