Broken Heart of a mother of a soldier.

My heart has been breaking now for over a year. Let me start at the beginning. Sep. 2012 4:30 am phone rings woke me up ..It was my daughters commander telling me she had a seizure been put in hospital not responding eyes dilated and fixed. I know she had been sick she had told me she had been having episodes like seizures now for a week or two. But this one was so bad she don't remember anything for 3 days. They could not even lay her down under a MRI cause she would jerk so much even when they sedated her. Let me give you some information on my daughter her name is Jamie and she is 20 been in South Korea since May 2012 as a medic. Her dream was to become a PA and serve her country. She loves to help people out always have been that way for her. She would go on missionary trips, volunteer in church with the young kids and volunteered her time to the hospital when she was a teenager. Always a good student in school. So on with why my heart is broken... She started in basic training with her eyes going cloudy but they thought that was eye migraines over 2 years ago and it has just gotten worse. After she got out of hospital they could not find anything wrong with her. But she keep having episodes so when she came home for Christmas 2012 she only had 3 weeks and I got her in to the doctors here with sent her in to a Nero to be checked. And they did MRI and EKG all the test they needed to come up with seizures in her right frontal lobe. Put her meds. (Keppra) She waited to get the doc (PA) over in South Korea to ok the meds. That was in Jan. 2013. She had her ups and down and started to jerk all the time so they sent her to the Nero there in South Korea. The first South Korea doc she could not understand so they sent her to a different one this one could speak some English. She told Jamie she had spinal propriospinal myoclonus not epilepsy. Not only did she have jerks and weakness on one side of her body but her eye sight started to go and she stayed blind for a week. Her eye sight came back but it goes and comes just like the jerks. She can not sleep at night because she jerks so bad that she wakes herself up. On top of going thought her sickness she has been accused of doing drugs and got in trouble for 2 boxes of cold meds they found in her friends room. She was told that they was investigating her for possible drug use because of how she acted one day after she started a high dose of meds. She even had docs tell her that she would have trouble with the meds that week because they was going to up her dose. To make a long story shorter she had a bad reaction to the meds they had gave her.The damage was done because I had just started a congressal order that week and that is what they put on the first one telling how she was under investigation for drugs and that might be why she was sick. Not true any of it.. If they would have just bothered looking in her medical files they would have seen all the notes on her sickness... That was back in May 2013 and we still waiting for her to get some help. She went to Hawaii to start the med board process. The doctors there was good they founded out that she had arthritis in her spinal cord and because of her jerking so much she had thickening of her muscles in her neck. That was in June and July 2013 we had to pay for her to be there because they did not have it approved so she did not have a Government Visa card. She got the money back and sent it to us but I could not believe that they did not even have her covered for that. They asked for her back in South Korea because she needed to face the article 15 that they was going to give for the 2 boxes of cold meds. So she went back and started the hearing she tried to fight the first one and was turned down so she waited along going back to Hawaii for doc appointments for the med board that had started on her. Finely one weekend it got so bad that she felt like she could not win and no one cared what happened to her cause it was told that she would not be going back to Hawaii till all her legal was done. She was having one of her episodes and even tried to commit suicide that weekend, come Monday she went to get help was put in hospital. There she was one more time told by her first Sargent that she was on drugs thats was she tried to commit suicide . But all the drug test she has done came back clean and the doc. there started to tell her that she need to get to a different post cause they must have trouble with her where she was and even could not believe that they had her in trouble for drugs cause he read her medical records and seen every thing she was telling him was the truth. He wanted to keep her two or more days but had to let her go cause the commandor was wanting her so she could start her article 15. So the day she got out of hospital she went to the hearing and was told that she was getting a article 15 with 45 days extra duty but no loss of pay. She worked so hard that she gave herself whiplash and had to go to the hospital for it. You see she can not even walk 20 feet before she starts to jerk and loose her footing. But she worked for them for 45 days in hope that she could just get it over and start the long process of the med board. She was hoping to be near us so we could come see her and help her out though it. She did her 45 days and got done with it oct 12 th but as you see we still waiting to hear anything. I have since started a congressal order again in hopes it will help her. I am at my end don't know what else to do for her. I pray every night and day for her. I know God can move mountains and he is going to have to move this for us. I am just a mom that would go to the end of the world for my kids. But my hands are tied I was even told to keep my mouth shut cause I could be making it worse on her. I ask you how when your child is crying asking you to make it better can you not try to do any and everything that you can to help them. After all really what am I asking to give my daughter medical treatment by a doc and to make sure she is safe. Because she can not even take the meds the Nero gave her without them saying she is on drugs. So she just suffers and hopes she can get to a medical hospital to start on her treatment. How can they treat our men and woman so bad in the army that they make it impossible for them to get treatment. I think if she could get treatment she might have a chance at a recovery or at least manage the symptoms better. All we are looking for is her to get medical treatment. It is a shame that we have had to go to this extreme to get medical treatment for a active army soldier...

  • This is March 1 2014 And we still have not got my daughter home it was told that she had 80 % disability and the med board was over that was 1 month ago now we waiting on them to send her home with no word when that will be. She has to work 12 hours a day in clinic till she gets out and she has not got any better. Just wished they would see how the treat our soldiers. My eyes are open ....
  • Good news we just heard that they dropped all charges and will send her closer to home to finish her treatment. We have been so excited today but still sad cause they have held her back in her treatment and med board she would have been home if they would have just read her medical files. As it is we are just happy that she can come to state side to finish and get treatment..
