  • In my 58 years of walking I have continued to see the Democrat contender promising to help the unfortunate with some new entitlement at the expense of the rest of us. I have yet to see an opponent present a good response other than he was going to decrease taxes, shrink government and fund the military. What I am looking to see is a candidate that will start from the unfortunate and present a background as to the consequential choices that the person made contrasted with someone that made good, responsible choices, with a bottom line of “it is not right for government to step in and punish the responsible person.” If he/she chooses to help the unfortunate it is his moral decision. Government exists to encourage all its’ citizens to be responsible, to ensure equal opportunity, to provide the common defense, nothing more. All other questions are answered by this simple principle.
  • Congressional District 11 Election: There are three people running in the Republican primary for Connolly's seat, Pat Herrity, Keith Fimian, and Kurt Riesenberg. Fimian lost to Connolly in the last election. All three of them are on Facebook and twitter. Pat and Keith have been elected before to local office, Kurt is President/Executive Director of the national Spray Polyurethane Foam Alliance (SPFA) headquartered in Fairfax. Each of them have a website, http://kurtforcongress2010.com/; http://keithfimian.com/ and http://patherrity.com/. Kurt's site gives me the impression that he is looking for another job so why not congress. Keith had a shot at Connolly, and due to some historical baggage lost. Pat looks like the best option. The primary election is on June 6, I think. It is difficult to get to know the candidates via their web pages. Personally, I could do a better job than any of these guys, at least that is what my friends tell me. As an engineer I was trained to solve complex problems, lawyers and political science guys just want to control the process to a solution if someone can tell them what it is.
