Identity theft.

Identity theft. I want you to think hard about what identity theft means to you. Does it refer to a hacker rummaging through data on your computer to gain your personal information? Could it be someone that obtains your social security information to open accounts or make purchased based on your name? Is it someone who steals your wallet or your purse and uses your ID’s and credit cards without your consent for their own personal gain? The answers are yes, yes, and yes! According to WIKIPEDIA.com, identity theft is a form of stealing someone's identity in which someone pretends to be someone else by assuming that person's identity, typically in order to access resources or obtain credit and other benefits in that person's name.

But right now, I’d like to shift gears. I want to talk about another type of identity theft. It’s happening every single day, right here. No one has talked about this form of identity theft yet but it’s among the most terrifying of scenarios. If something is not done about it soon, it will be too late to stop it. Figure it out yet? I’m referring to the identity theft of the United States of America.

What happened to our identity of being the brightest beacon of freedom on God’s green Earth? What happened to our identity of being the richest, most prosperous country in the world? What happened to the high regard to which we held our brave soldiers and veterans during times of war and peace? What happened to working hard and being the best worker and person you can be? What happened to our American pride? What happened to the American dream? What happened to the rights of American citizens? It’s very sad; and it is very scary. And this identity that is America…is disappearing little by little, every single day.

We’re in trouble, America. Our freedoms, our very way of life, our identity; are all under attack. They are not the works of a foreign power or terrorists. Our American identity has fallen under attack by the works ill-designing men and women in Washington. People that WE have elected to represent us. They have an obligation to uphold the Constitution, to represent the American people to the best of their ability, and to maintain peace and prosperity within the United States. With the exception of a very select few, these ends have not been met. The voice of the American people does not matter this day and age. It’s all about what’s the best for the President, or this Senator, or that Congressman, or this corporation. Where does it end? What happens to us? What happens to WE THE PEOPLE OF THE UNITED STATES?

Our national debt…mind boggling.

Our government shutdown…an embarrassment.

Our welfare program…a joke! Really. A JOKE!

Our Constitutional rights…constantly under attack.

Our President and other elected officials…Well, let’s put it like this. Politicians are like diapers; they need to be changed often and for the same reason.

The idea of America is a precious gift that has been inherited to us. It came to us at a high price; paid for by the struggles, sacrifices, and blood of our fathers before us. Isn’t that something to be proud of? Isn’t that something worth defending?

 Unite. Stand together. Don’t let Washington trample over our way of life, our rights, our freedom; our American identity.

Fundamentals.

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.” The eloquence of Thomas Jefferson’s pen in this statement supersedes anything else ever written in our nation’s history. It is the sole foundation of our government, our central belief. They are the very rights granted to us by our Creator. Our forefathers stepped into the unknown when they took this first step towards freedom. This was all together something new, something that has never been done before in the history of the world. What these brave men did is put everything on the line to create a government of the people, by the people, and for the people. They risked it all so that future generations will not be persecuted for their beliefs, for the things they say, read, or write. Citizens will not feel the hand of a strong government or of a monarch taking their possessions or stripping them of their natural born rights. The people will not be made into subjects or puppets doing what their government demands of them as they are made to do in dictatorships or under communistic regimes. Our forefathers eliminated these as possibilities when they issued the Declaration of Independence and later the Constitution of the United States. These are iron-clad documents; the basis for the laws of the land. These documents are what our nation was forged on and are the guidelines for which our government operates and abides.

But none of this means anything if we are not prepared to defend them at all costs. It was the great patriot Samuel Adams of Massachusetts who said “The liberties of our country, the freedom of our civil Constitution, are worth defending at all hazards; and it is our duty to defend them against all attacks. We have received them as a fair inheritance from our worthy ancestors: they purchased them for us with toil and danger and expense of treasure and blood, and transmitted them to us with care and diligence. It will bring an everlasting mark of infamy on the present generation, enlightened as it is, if we should suffer them to be wrested from us by violence without a struggle, or to be cheated out of them by the artifices of false and designing men.” This refers to us America. “It is our DUTY to defend them against all attacks.” We cannot stand idle. We cannot let the rights of our citizens to slowly be stripped away by ill-designing men. We must fight for our rights, as our forefathers did. There were too many sacrifices made, too much blood shed, to protect these ends; and I will be DAMNED if I will allow my freedom to be stripped from my grasp; from the grasps of my children and future generations to come. We the people deserve the right, the opportunity, to embellish in the many freedoms of our country that have been guaranteed to us in these documents and by our Creator.

Right now, all of this has fallen under attack. Little by little, our rights are being stripped away by those who do not believe in these ends. They are inconvenient and get in the way of their own personal agendas. If these elected officials don’t stand for the people, who will? President Ronald Regan once said “man is not free unless government is limited.” Our government is not limited. Our federal government is over reaching; taping into our personal lives and attacking our very freedoms.

The time is now. Any change will come from an-enlightenment. It will come from people who are educated on the fundamentals of this country and the ideals on which it was forged. This is not something that can be achieved alone as individuals. This is something that has to be achieved together, by a UNITED body. Let us stand together. Let us tell our government that we will NOT stand idle as our rights are stripped from us. Our founders have already done their part. Our brave veterans have already done their part. Now, it is up to us! What kind of future do you want for our country? What kind of future do you want for your children? Is it one with a strong, controlling, central government? Is it one where the people fear government or are subjects of the President?  Or is it one with a small, non-invasive, well regulated federal government as our founders originally intended? Is it a government that fears the people as Thomas Jefferson suggests in order to maintain liberty? Is it a government of the people, by the people, for the people?

Our future is in our hands and our hands alone. I will end this with a quote from Thomas Paine who wrote “Common Sense”, the Earth shattering wake-up call to the American colonies demanding independence from the Crown of Britain. Paine said “Those who expect to reap the blessings of liberty must undergo the fatigues of supporting it.” What will YOU do to support it? How far are YOU willing to go, to protect the freedoms of the United States of America?
