Just a thought

Since the polls are saying the Tea Parties are more favorable than either the Republicans or Democrats, I wish some of our Tea Party leaders would consider running for offices. Personally I think (almost) every politician who is now in office should be voted out. Let's get some strong people running for office. Even if they don't have experience in government many of our T.P. leaders know more about the constitution that those presently in office. Let's really get some Constitutionalists that have some back bone, who are not socialists, and who would not try to ruin America. Just maybe we could get some sense back into the system.Anything beats what we now have.

  • I am an independent and sure hopes the TParty does not turn out to be a convention to elect Sarah Palin, whom by the way I do not support as Pres. for 2012. Should the TParty become partisan, I'm outta here! If it just becomes political especially with Dick Armey pushing and pulling alot of strings and influence, it will be a shame to let this movement go to the republicans who started this entire collapse. I have no use for either party or it's politicians. Thank you all for your indulgence, but this is my opinion. Mary
  • I have mixed feelings about this. I'm registered Republican but I probably lean more toward a Constitutionalist or Libertarian point of view. In our current system neither of these parties have much chance of being elected and usually end up taking votes away from a Republican candidate. I believe Tea Party members, as a new and separate party, would have much the same effect. My hope is that the Tea Party movement will bring in more RID candidates who share the belief that our Constitution is the supreme law of the land. The Founding Fathers worked hard and very thoughtfully to craft the laws by which this Nation could grow, thrive, and give equal rights to every single citizen.

No doubt there are many qualified people in the Tea Party movement who fully understand the Constitution. In today's far-reaching world that is not enough. Government leaders need to have knowledge of law, business, international relations, the country's infrastructure, health, education, and probably psychology. While I am in favor of term limits, it can often take 6 or 8 years to develop and hone these skills, just in time to leave office. There are no easy answers to the political ills we face but kicking everyone out and starting fresh would be disastrous. Besides, not every single politician is a greedy, crooked, power-hungry jerk. Just quite a few of them. And we absolutely need to get rid of the ones who are rotten and the sooner, the better!

For more than 40 years I paid very little attention to politics, voted a straight party ticket, and just accepted whatever came along. Not anymore! I read, watch, and listen as much as I can and am becoming more outspoken. This year I'll be involved in Tea Party activities and hopefully work on a campaign or two. More than anything I'll pray for our leaders and our military. God Bless America!
  • Even more important than getting people to throw together a campaign for congress, each tea party group should be focused on creating a campaign work force for the long haul...beyond 2010. My fear is that our scattergun approach will yield unsatisfactory results and we will just quit and go back to watching reruns of Friends.

Right now, look for your nearest local election. We have a city commission slate this March. If your city is like ours, it's infested with liberal policy wonks who are doing all in their power to control your lives through their petty tyrannies. A local government is one of the easiest places to abuse tax dollars. Seek out candidates in these races and volunteer to work on their campaigns. They don't have to be the best candidates you could hope for. The goal is to become a force to reckon with.

After getting someone elected, make sure he never forgets that you are watching, and that you could just as easily fire him next time. Hold him accountable.

Next, set your new machine to work on a primary race. Choose the best available and do all in your power to get him/her elected. If you win, repeat the accountability step. If you lose, start preparing an opposing candidate for next time.

In November, you will have a force ready to go to get out the vote that fires your bad congressman. If yours is a good one, volunteer your people to work for who ever is running against the nearest bad one. Do a phone bank for them on Saturdays with your free cell phone minutes.

After all this, NEVER GIVE UP! This is how the liberals came to power. They think long term and they act year round. Remember that eternal vigilance thing...
  • I fully agree with you Pat! Replacing money greedy, power hungry, criminals with other like criminals (whatever party they belong to) will accomplish nothing! We need to fire each and every republican, democrat and independent life-time politician and replace them with honest, job creating, loving and caring business men/women! The constitution states that the job of the government is protection only, NOT controlling every aspect of our lives simply to pad the pockets of the politicians and give them false impresion they are doing anything important. Only proper business oriented individuals can turn this country back to what our forefathers created 200 years ago ... politicians can accomplish NOTHING of value!
  • Hi Heather, Thanks for your response.
I am new on this web page. I belong to a small Tea Party group in Florida, and am anxious to keep up with what others are doing. When is the National Tea Party Convention?
Another thing I wish would happen is that we would follow Oklahoma and pass HB1330 to place the Ten Commandments on all state capitol property. Oklahoma passed a law to incarcerate all illegal immigrants, and make them leave unless they get a green card and become American citizens. Oklahoma passed a law declaring Oklahoma as a Sovereign state not under the Federal Government directives. Texas Montana and Utah have done the same. Oklahoma passed a law giving people the right to bear arms and transport them in their vehicles. Then they passed a law that all driver's license exams will be only in English. If all states would do this, what a great start it would be.

I completely agree with you. Thats the goal of the first National Tea Party Convention. Once this is taken to the next level, we can begin to get this country back on track and continue our journey as a nation down the road that our founding fathers paved over 200 years ago, one of capitalism, individualism, and true freedom.

  • Pat - I had suggested this in our Summit in DC, I've been asked to run and I know I may have to do this. I really think my job is to drive patriots to this so the Tea Party Movement remains non-partisan.

If I do have to run I would encourage someone more qualified than me to also run. If Texans desires me to run as their governor it will be their choice not mine. I'm learning about the process of running, because it is much different then just voting. Needless to say our military life has isolated us from the political process of running.

I agree it may become necessary to have leadership of this movement to run. I will report my findings on Tuesday in Austin, TX where I will go to the elections office. Until then we will keep this option open. I do not want the Tea Party Movement to be a political party. I believe we can truly return to Representative Government with the option of Republicans, Independents and Democrats (RID). I believe, we are to direct members to the Independents (I) if the Republicans (R) and Democrats (D) do not respond by providing Patriotic Constitutionalist as options. My gut feeling, or odds of restoring the Constitution by the parties is 50%, 100%, 10% for the RIDs. I will post my findings after my meeting in Austin with the elections office.
